Freebird Publishers Does More Than Sell Books to Help Prisoners

North Dighton, MA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 12/13/2022 -- As incarceration rates climb, so do rates of recidivism. The successful reintegration of prisoners into society pivots on effective social support services. The most important aspects are housing, employment, and medical services. Although these services are widely available through state and federal government services, most formerly incarcerated people do not qualify. Thus, most services that are available to ex-felons are sponsored by families, private people, groups, and companies. Freebird Publishers (https://http://www.freebirdpublishers.com/single-post/troubled-young-people-don-t-change-for-the-better-if-they-re-not-taught-how-to-get-better) announces that they are also coming to the aid of the formerly incarcerated people more than ever before.

For most prisoners returning to society, their next step is continued confinement to a halfway house. A halfway house is an extension of a prison sentence most used when prisoners are still in the custody of correctional institutions. In these situations, the prisoners are provided with housing and meals for a fee. They are required to work at a sponsored job which in most cases they quickly lose after their release from custody. At that point, prisoners who do not have family support are often homeless and jobless, or otherwise hopeless. When the prisoner finally reaches their wit's end they often re-offend.

Freebird Publishers is most known for distributing books and services to America's incarcerated community. They are also known for collaborating with others who fight for the rights of prisoners who are treated unfairly.

Most recently Freebird Publishers joined with author Kelly Patrick Riggs to release his latest book Post-Conviction Relief: The Advocate. But now, Freebird Publishers expands to provide services for the formerly incarcerated as well. They have always extended housing and job placement for a few returning prisoners. They now move forward with a much-needed service. Freebird Publishers is happy to announce the birth of Freebird Reentry Services, Inc. A non-profit corporation. Their goal is to continue to provide basic social services to the homeless and needy populations of the Northeast United States. This expanded service will assist the otherwise destitute people of America.

National Backlash Only the Tip of the Iceberg

Washington DC, WA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 09/01/2022 -- Today, Mike Baggz announced his intent to lead a boycott against the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), located on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Recently, concerns have mounted among Black American descendants of chattel slavery in the United States, who feel betrayed by the museum's decision to include the curation of Latinx history within the building. In recent weeks, the NMAAHC posted a nationwide job listing for a Latino curator to further their Latino Studies program, although the Museum's mission states that they focus exclusively on non-Latino Black Americans who are descendants of the chattel slavery that occurred in the United States. The museum was founded on the understanding that the culture and history of African Americans should not be intertwined with that of other ethnic groups, and the inclusion of Latino culture can thus be considered a revision of history.

Established by an Act of Congress in 2003 and opened in 2016, the NMAAHC serves as a global hub to document, memorialize, and educate the public about the lineage, history, culture, and lives of Black Americans from the start of US chattel slavery through contemporary times. Black Americans who are descended from chattel slavery are, therefore, deeply concerned about the redirection of NMAAHC's legally established purpose and mission. Mike Baggz and many others have pointed out that the most alarming aspect of the inclusion of the Latinx identifier is that it would inherently include White-identified Latinos like Rafael Trujillo, who practiced some of the vilest and most vitriolic anti-Black racism in the Western hemisphere, specifically in the Dominican Republic, by committing genocide against Black-skinned Dominicans and Haitians.

Black Americans have recently been quite active on social media about this change in the purpose, mission, and direction of the NMAAHC. Generally, these responses have expressed the sentiment that the inclusion of Latinx history in a formal space that was specifically created, by an Act of Congress, to focus on Black Americans is immoral and confusing. Some feedback from Latinx community representatives like Soledad O'Brien was quickly shut down on social media. O'Brien, born María de la Soledad Teresa O'Brien to Australian and Cuban immigrant parents, is not a descendant of victims of US chattel slavery, so the Museum is not focused on her and her lineage, yet she weighed in.

Speaking on the Torraine Walker Show podcast, Mike Baggz, the entrepreneur who started the conversation on social media, stated that efforts will continue in the quest to seek accountability from the Museum, "We will continue demanding responsibility from those in charge and plan accordingly." He has emailed the Museum and received in return a standard copy-and-paste reply with no real answers or specifics. In response to the NMAAHC's misguided mission and the lack of engagement by its staff, Baggz created a petition that has amassed well over 2,400 signatures to date.

Since beginning this action, the museum has faced an onslaught of criticism from the Black-American community against what is perceived as an attempt to erase the rich culture and history of this population. The museum's attempt to be more inclusive of other ethnicities is detrimental to the Black-American story. "A space specifically created for African Americans should not be intertwined with any other ethnic groups, and efforts to [include Latino history] will be considered a revision of African-American US history," stated Mike Baggz. "The most alarming part of this effort by NMAAHC is the fact that it would also include Latinos of all races, many of whom hold the vilest anti-Black sentiments that are historically rooted and documented in Latin-American culture."

At the time of this press release, no response has been received from the NMAAHC, and additional attempts to follow up on the issue have been ignored.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Lindsey K.

While inspiring youth to dare to DreamCrazy, the artist raises awareness for the trailblazing NFT project of the same name.

Jacksonville, FL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/25/2022 -- Every song has a message, but not always a purpose.

For the award-winning artist and EVAC Movement co-founder Seven J, finding a way to support the song's namesake, the DreamCrazy JITS NFT collection, while also inspiring youth to #DreamCrazy, was more than an ambition, it was his purpose.

"I wrote DreamCrazy JITS to show that the path out of the struggle is to #DreamCrazy, no matter how hopeless your situation may seem," Seven J said.

But DreamCrazy JITS, which drops February 25th on all music streaming platforms, is also an anthem for the DreamCrazy JITS NFT collection. A trailblazer in decentralizing the fight for equity and empowerment, this generative, Black youth-developed collection engages NFT-holders in a social justice movement to empower youth everywhere to become at-HOPE instead of "at-risk", transforming their life challenges into superpowers for positive change.

The message of the song and the NFT project is especially powerful as they both arrive to wrap-up Black History Month.

"It's a time to look up and back at those who came before, as we continue the work to build a better future," Seven J said. "DreamCrazyJITS is a rallying cry for people to come together, hear each other, and learn from the sharing."

A full 50% of the profits from both the song and the DreamCrazy JITS NFT collection will go to the EVAC Movement, an organization Seven J co-founded and has been proud to support.

The EVAC Movement began in a high school leadership class in Jacksonville, FL – hence the term JITS, from the local colloquial for someone younger – where students learned the value of sharing their life stories in an effort to create understanding. Making a list of their "craziest" dreams led them to meet with President Obama and present at the White House, TEDx (tinyurl.com/EvacTedTalk) and four times at Harvard University. They designed the DreamCrazy JITS NFT with a roadmap aimed at empowering other youth to dare to dream big, too - this time powered with the support of the vibrant NFT community.

"I grew up in an environment where kids didn't have the capacity to dream," said Nick Shubert, another EVAC Movement co-founder. "Survival was the only thing on our minds. We want to nurture and grow kids' ability to dream."

"Our biggest dream is that kids everywhere grow up with the freedom to pursue their craziest dreams," Seven J said. "It's my mission to make that ideal a reality, and the DreamCrazy JITS NFT and community will do just that," he continued.

NFT and Hollywood film producer John Manulis added, "You're not just buying a one-of-a-kind piece of art, you're actively making a difference by investing in positive change in the communities that need it the most. The funds from this NFT could mean a brighter future for countless youth and generations to come."

Public sale of the DreamCrazy JITS NFTs is expected to open soon, with the collection's exclusive Pre-Sale List, which authorizes purchase before the public sale, already filling rapidly. For the initial drop, the price per NFT is expected to be between .05 and .1 ETH.

Bringing together the top game development studios from 10 countries across Africa, under one roof.

Cape Town, South Africa -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/24/2022 -- The "Pan Africa Gaming Group" (PAGG) has been unveiled today, bringing 10 studios together under a single umbrella across Africa.

Launched during Africa Games Week 2022 in Cape Town, the group aims to grow the Africa Gaming industry by 2x every year due to the rapid growth of youth with Internet connected smartphones on the continent.

The group, which represents 10 African countries, include the following studios:

South Africa - Sea Monster
Senegal - Kayfo Games
Cameroon - Kiro'o Games
Ghana - Leti Arts
Tunisia - Digital Mania
Ethiopia - Qene Games
Kenya - Usiku Games
Tanzania - Khanga Rue
Rwanda - DopeApps
African Diaspora - Masseka Games

PAGG will be governed through a Founders' Council combining many of the top gaming entrepreneurs across the continent. They will be joined by Peter Kihara (ex-Goldman Sachs & PWC) serving as the Group Chief Financial Officer and Jake Manion (BAFTA nominated Game Director at Aardman Animation in UK) serving as Group Creative Director.

Each studio will maintain its sovereignty and autonomy when it comes to things such as the brand, leadership, and financial independence. The founders will work together collaboratively, voting up/down proposals and resolutions brought to the Founders' Council.

According to Dawit Abraham, CEO of Qene Games (Ethiopia) and spokesperson for PAGG, the network has been formed to enable the Africa Gaming Industry to unlock the world's next one billion players:

"Together, we represent over 200 professionals and 8 different languages. Our team has over 30yrs of experience, leading some of the top gaming companies globally, including Ubisoft, Electronic Arts & Aardman Animation. We have produced more mobile, PC & console games than anyone else on the continent. Most importantly, all of our network members are committed to #GamingForGood, harnessing the power of gamification to create a positive social impact in our local communities."

The group is developing & publishing locally relevant content that is relatable to African gamers. Despite the massive audience growing on the continent there is still very little relevant, local content in Africa, according to Group Creative Director, Jake Manion:

"We are creating a portfolio of mobile-first casual games that are fun, non-violent, and gender-inclusive. Our games are Made-In-Africa, For Africa, featuring African heroes wrapped in local culture, music & environments. This allows our players to see themselves reflected in our games, which makes all the difference."

PAGG's more than one hundred existing games entertain, engage, and educate. By harnessing the power of gamification, the group is creating fun ways to solve some of the continent's challenges, including healthcare, education, women's empowerment, and climate change.

Once developed though, content must be published in order to reach the audience. To that end, PAGG brings together the "Gara" African game store, and "AfroComix" the largest African eComics publishing platform. Through these PAGG will have a channel for distributing it's games tied in with Africa's dozens of diverse payment platforms including mobile money, airtime billing, and credit cards.

To extend these effort into the future, PAGG is equipping and training Africa's next generation of game developers, creating new jobs across the continent for youth. As an example, "The Nairobi Game Development Center" is a 6,000sq ft community co-working space that will be replicated in each of the African markets to train, incubate and host the next generation of talent. Eyram Tawia, CEO of Leti Arts in Ghana, added:

"One of our core values is not just to build a collection of games, but to incubate Africa's gaming industry of tomorrow. There is a wealth of incredible talent already on the continent, with more graduating every year from top-tier game development schools like Rubika. Most graduates though are relegated to doing remote work for overseas clients due to the lack of local gaming job opportunities. We're going to fix that"

Total Addressable Market (TAM):
Africa has more than 400 million internet connected smartphone users. This is more than all of Europe and more than the USA, Canada, and Mexico combined. That number has been growing at 20% CAGR and is expected to reach 680 million by the end of 2025.

According to a new report from the African Development Bank (AfDB), Africa has the world's fastest growing middle class, tripling to more than 300 million people in the last 30 years. The continent has a median age of just 19yrs (EU=44yrs, USA=38yrs). In a study by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), just the top 5 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa are already spending USD$37 Billion annually on mobile gaming / mobile-based sports betting, demonstrating the massive audience willing to spend on mobile entertainment.

Globally, the gaming industry is on track to pass USD$200B+ dwarfing Hollywood & the Music industry combined. With Africa's projected 1 Billion young people across the continent by 2050 and no existing major incumbent gaming companies in the market, the opportunity for Africa to dwarf China as the largest gaming market in the world is massive.

Investment bank Drake Star Partners reported global gaming combined investments of more than USD$85Billion in all of 2021, a number which was already surpassed in just the first month of 2022. The formation of PAGG will be the first step towards unifying Africa's booming gaming industry.

About PAGG
The Pan Africa Gaming Group (PAGG) is a continent wide network of some of the top independent game development studios and publishers in Africa. With more than 200 staff and 100 existing published games, the group is producing locally relevant content for more than 270 million internet connected youth. PAGG has been created to bring together these companies from all corners of the continent, to share talent, resources and access to markets. Together, the group aims to unlock the world's next 1 Billion players on mobile, PC's & video game consoles.

Descendants of Africans buried in Flatbush will rally at Brooklyn Borough Hall to stop the desecration of an African burial ground that dates to the 1700s.

Brooklyn, NY -- (ReleaseWire) -- 10/05/2021 -- In celebration of Fannie Lou Hamer's birthday, the Flatbush African Burial Ground Coalition (FABGC), African Graves Matter, and other local community groups will rally on Wednesday, 10/6/2021 at 8:30 AM at Brooklyn Borough Hall. The FABGC plans to demand that Eric Adams, Brooklyn Borough President, Louise Carroll, Commissioner of the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, and the City stop plans to build on land containing the community's historic African burial ground.

Located at 2286 Church Avenue is a 29,000 square-foot site back to the 1700s. Construction has repeatedly desecrated the burial ground, starting in the 1840s with District School No. 1, Bedford Avenue, and the sewer system in the late 1800s. An archaeological study done in 2000 by Historical Perspectives, Inc., a consulting firm based in Connecticut, concluded that the remains found were indeed of African descent and suggested no further sub-surface disturbance on the site.

However, in October 2020, Mayor De Blasio and Council member Mathieu Eugene announced plans to build affordable housing on the burial ground and published a Request for Qualifications which closed in March 2021. HPD has announced that it will issue an RFP this Fall, even though by their admission, their community engagement process did not meet its engagement targets - with an average of 50 participants at each of 6 community engagement sessions, including HPD staff.

By contrast, the FABGC has over 1900 signatures on its petition, had nearly 250 participants at its two teach-ins, and 200 attendees at their walking tours.

Redoneva Andrews, a tenant leader with the Flatbush Tenants Coalition says, "For hundreds of years, Black and brown people have been oppressed, abused, and deceived. There is a school next door where our kids are lied to and miseducated, and this sacred space can be a place of restoration where young people can learn the truth about their history. We're telling the City that we do not need another gentrifying high-rise building in the neighborhood, and we sure don't need it at this location. It is imperative that this space be preserved for our community so we can be close to our ancestors, a place for healing and reflection. We need to preserve our history."

On September 24, 2021, the FABGC hosted <a href="http://https://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyMQO4tUZTU">Decolonizing Archeology: Lessons from the African Burial Ground 30 Years Later, a teach-in featuring Dr. Michael Blakey, the lead archaeologist on the Lower Manhattan African Burial Ground Project. Over 150 people from all over the country attended the teach-in, where Dr. Blakey shared his experiences working on the lower Manhattan project, including pitfalls and hurdles along the way.

Shanna Sabio, lead organizer for FABGC says, "Having Dr. Blakey share his wisdom is the first step for our coalition to create a roadmap for other activists who might come across African burial grounds in the future. As development happens all around the City and also across our nation, we believe that more African burial grounds will be found. Teach-in's like these are an essential transfer of knowledge and information that happens in a way that is easy to digest rather than be over-academic. Rather than holding the information close to our chest, let's allow as many people as possible to enter the conversation, use it, and retain it for the future."

About The Flatbush African Burial Ground Coalition (FABGC)
The Flatbush African Burial Ground Coalition (FABGC) is a Black-led, multi-racial group of local residents, activists, artists, architects, planners, and educators who work together to protect the Flatbush African Burial Ground from further desecration.

The FABGC seeks to preserve and steward the site, recently renamed Eve's Garden, for future generations. Eve was an African woman who, at the age of 110, died enslaved to Lawrence Voorhes, one of the largest slaveholders in Kings County. Her remains are still at the burial ground. Fashion has proven time and again that it isn't immune to societal issues. This season as NYFW stomps out across the city, socially distancing itself from Spring Studios to Battery Park, Supermodels Unlimited Magazine(SU) is taking a moment to kneel down and lace up their ballet heels to remind us that not everything should return to normal. There are some injustices that need to end, and what better time to shine a light on these travesties than while the world is healing and learning from its missteps. SU feels every designer should be given a moment to shine, no matter their skin color, or neighborhood. "Diversity in fashion is a celebration of talents and design amongst a community of representation that allows every person to see someone like them have a big moment while showing strength in coming together, to display the beauty in all types of individuals.

Kidney Shield is widely used across the United States with over 30,000 monthly customers and 200 positive reviews on Amazon.

Wood-Ridge, NJ -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/20/2021 -- Robert Galarowicz, a kidney sufferer and the founder of Healthy Kidney Inc. has created an all-natural, kidney revitalizing supplement that can help support optimal kidney health.

Rejuvenate kidney health by supplementing with this exceptional omega-3 supplement created to help support good kidney health.

Kidney Shield's potent omega-3s come from wild-caught fish like sardines, mackerel, and salmon that remain free from toxins. Unlike farm-raised fishes crowded in nets with high levels of toxins and mercury, Kidney Shield's wild-caught fresh fish are from the deep pockets of the North Atlantic and Pacific Ocean.

Kidney disease is a worldwide health crisis that keeps getting deadlier. In 2005, there were nearly 58 million deaths worldwide, with 35 million attributed to kidney disease. That is a record number but kidney disease can still be treated. With early detection and excellent counseling, it is possible to slow or stop the progression of kidney disease. With almost a billion people in the world suffering from some type of kidney issue, Kidney Shield can help deliver high-quality Omega-3 fatty acids to ensure optimal kidney health.

While many drug stores carry Omega-3 fish oil supplements, a large majority of them contain just 1000 mg or less with only 80-150 mg of EPA and 20-100 mg of DHA. On the other hand, Kidney Shield packs a whopping 1500 mg in a balanced proportion of 800 mg EPA, and 600 mg DHA, plus 100 mg. Even the American Heart Association recognizes the importance of omega-3s for heart health and recommends a dosage of 1,000mg of omega-3 per day.

Premium Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce the risk of inflammation that comes with kidney problems. Lower blood pressure and improved cardiovascular health are two other benefits of Omega-3 fish oils found in Kidney Shield.

Starting today, people living with kidney problems can improve their situation by incorporating Kidney Shield into their daily routine. Using low-quality fish oil supplements will not be adequate for optimal kidney health. Kidney Shield is widely used across the United States with over 30,000 monthly customers and 200 positive reviews on Amazon. Manufactured with care at a cGMP facility, Kidney Shield has gained the trust of thousands living with kidney issues.

About Kidney Shield
Kidney Shield is a ground-breaking kidney supplement that helps individuals with kidney problems achieve good kidney health. With over 200 positive Amazon reviews, Kidney Shield is consistently bought by more than thirty-thousand people every month, all across the U.S. Made with high-quality, wild-caught fish from the deep oceans, Kidney Shield maintains its premium status with high doses of EPA and DHA Omega-3 Acids. With a great lemon taste that removes the fishy taste, Kidney Shield is a true winner among Omega-3 Acids for good kidney health.

Yes, fortunately you've read that correctly.

A Dallas Texas woman who preferred to remain anonymous stated that there has been a lot of tension in her home from the snow storm to the pandemic. She and her family experienced eight days of no power during the recent outage. Once power was restored and her family seemed to be getting back on their feet, she stated that this past weekend her husband insisted on attending an all star weekend party at a local club with his friends.

"I am not proud of my thoughts lately about my husband but I am so thankful I came across that song when I did because if that hadn't happened, the outcome would have been much different. It was like a gift from heaven. I needed it at that very moment."

You may be asking yourself what was so wrong with attending the party. She revealed her husband contracted COVID-19 and brought it home to her and their teenage son. They are currently in quarantine. Her husband stated that he believes he contracted the virus when he removed his mask for a photo op with his friends. He also admitted to removing his mask to innocently kiss the waitress who brought him an endless amount of ketchup for his onion rings.

"The level of anger that I went through in those moments after getting positive result were almost unbearable but thank God I came across that song because it literally saved a life."

We reached out to the Hip Hop star Deveondi to inform him of this breath taking news. To our surprise he said he is not totally shocked. "Just two days after the song was released someone wrote a comment on one of my social media pages saying "This is strong medicine. I think this song just prevented me from snapping on some poor fool". Anyone that is familiar with the term snapped knows that is not a term of endearment. I am happy this song is making such a major impact around the world and in so many households."

There are some occasions where we are blessed to hear music that is both great and impactful and this is one of those songs. After listening to 'Happy And You Know It', I can admit I also felt my own energy shifted and it helped put me in a better mood.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

DPC
Email: Click to Email DPC
Web: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0VMAdzgCpp7hyNoboELXxn?si=_Sg8AhpkQc25CwE6U_AsUQ

Carmel, IN -- (ReleaseWire) -- 09/21/2020 -- While families sheltered in place and socially isolated during the beginning of the Pandemic, an African American son and father set out to do something they long dreamt of doing together. Naeem and Nathaniel collaborated on a new children's book titled 'The Amazing World of STEM.'

STEM, short for Stuart Tyson Elmo Morgan, is a character loosely based on Naeem's unique childhood. The Amazing World of STEM is a diverse book that Naeem, who is a Santa Clara University Electrical Engineering alum and third-year Carnegie Mellon University Electrical and Computer Engineering Ph.D. candidate, would have loved to read as a child. The Amazing World of STEM brings to life the kind of world father, Nathaniel, an author, TED Speaker and Parenting & Education Activist, wished existed for his son and all children.

The son and father duo believe that almost every child, especially children of color, spend a portion of their childhood searching unsuccessfully for a worthy hero, wanting desperately to look up to and believe in someone. But, not enough children are taught the real secret about heroes: there is no need to search for a hero outside of oneself.

There is a hero inside all of us. Stuart Tyson Elmo Morgan, a burgeoning engineer, and humanitarian, knows this exceptionally well. STEM shows children of all ages that it's possible to be anything you want to be: a scientist, technologist, engineer, or mathematician – a real-life hero.

Nathaniel says, "The Amazing World of STEM illustrates what's possible when we prepare children for the future and make sure they are ready to lead the way." Naeem sums up STEM this way "STEM is a lot like me, a child of color, a bourgeoning engineer who wants nothing more than to make his parents and community proud."

The Amazing World of STEM is the perfect book for any child who is intellectually ambitious, globally, and culturally curious, and compassionate. Co-authors, son and father, Naeem K. Turner-Bandele and Nathaniel A. Turner, JD, MALS crafted a picture book illustrated by Keva M. Richardson that exemplifies and promotes diversity, the best of humanity, and science, technology, engineering, and math.

Children of all ages needing a reminder about the power of love, the imaginative spirit of a child, and the universal importance of preparing children to change the world should add 'The Amazing World of STEM' to their must-read book list.

'The Amazing World of STEM' goes on sale, September 28, 2020.

Kevin Douglas Wright turns his powerful 2019 documentary, I Learned It From You, into a book through which readers can learn how to address the sensitive topic of racism and Black Lives Matter.

New York, NY -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/27/2020 -- Kevin Douglas Wright, author and filmmaker, recently released a book version of his powerful 2019 documentary, I Learned It From You, which provides snapshots into the lives of six survivors of the civil rights movement. The book explores the dangers of learned behavior and institutional racism. It delivers lessons from the past that readers can apply to the Black Lives Matter movement and the greater good of humanity.

In today's fast-paced society, it's not easy to find time to educate oneself on institutional racism in America. Yet, in a time when so many Black people are hurting, staying informed is not just the smart thing to do — it's the right thing to do.

I Learned It From You offers a crash course on cultural diversity and racism in America. Chock full of the perspectives, lessons and memories of six randomly chosen baby boomers who also happen to be survivors of the civil rights movement, Kevin Douglas Wright provides a raw glimpse into the truths of racism and its effect on people in an indisputable, and, at times entertaining, way.

In the introduction, the author states that tomorrow or the next day, readers will interact with people who are not like them — white, Black, Jewish, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, lesbian, mentally challenged... He then poses the question, "What will you teach them?"

Though the six stories are markedly different, each reveals a common theme, and that is someone teaching something that is responsible for the destruction of people and entire civilizations. The hope is that, by the end of the book, readers can apply the lessons learned to the Black Lives Matter movement and teach not destructive behavior, but rather behavior that will contribute to the greater good of humanity.

Kevin Douglas Wright is an American author, film director, film producer, film editor, screenwriter and cinematographer. His works have the power to inspire viewers, readers and listeners and to change perspectives and lives for the better. Wright invites individuals who are ready to combat racism through education to visit http://ilearneditfromyou.com/.

Ms. Walker is expanding breast and ovarian cancer awareness to African-American and Caribbean women in the five boroughs through NYC nonprofit SHARE

New York, NY -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/05/2019 -- Desiree Walker, a two-time breast cancer survivor, is determined to eliminate the health gap for African-American and Afro-Caribbean women in underserved NYC communities.

Walker works with SHARE, a New York City-based breast and ovarian cancer nonprofit, as an Ambassador for its African-American Ambassador program, an outreach initiative that trains women of color to educate their communities throughout the five boroughs about breast and ovarian cancer in order to reduce health disparities. She also facilitates its Harlem support group for women of African descent.

It's an agenda that's close to Walker's heart, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer at 38 years old. The illness took her by surprise, as she'd previously regarded breast cancer as an older woman's disease.

"When I was diagnosed, I knew the words "breast" and "cancer" but very little about breast cancer as a disease, which made me feel powerless," Walker says. "As a result, it's been my mission to educate communities, especially women, and empower them if they should ever hear the words 'you have breast cancer.'"

This mission led Walker to SHARE in 2008, where she performed general outreach and facilitated several programs before moving into her current role with SHARE's Ambassador program. SHARE Ambassadors are all women of color, trained to share their experience with cancer in their communities and distribute reliable information about breast and ovarian cancer symptoms, screenings, and potential risk factors at community health fairs, churches, and consulates. In 2018, the Ambassador program reached more than 31,000 women in the five boroughs.

Walker also wants women to know the importance of advocating for themselves, recalling an encounter with an oncologist she believed didn't take her concerns seriously. "Don't be afraid to speak up if something doesn't feel right. It's important that you voice your concerns and feel heard through every step of the journey."

Research has shown significant health disparities for women of color, including different treatment within the medical system. Black women are 42% more likely to die from breast cancer than White women, are often diagnosed with more aggressive cancers at later stages, and do not receive timely follow-up after diagnosis and treatment.

"Women of color face many barriers when it comes to their health," said Ivis Febus-Sampayo, SHARE's Senior Director of Programs. "Outreach like the Ambassador Program is just one way we're working to change that."

Walker also leads a breast and ovarian cancer support group for women of African descent, meeting twice a month in Harlem. The group is an opportunity to connect with other women who are also undergoing the challenges particular to being a woman of color with cancer. "It's a safe space for everyone to be candid and comfortable to share whatever's on their mind without fear of judgment," Walker says.

The SHARE Ambassador Program is funded by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Fund in The New York Community Trust, Genentech, and generous SHARE donors. For more information, including how to participate, visit: sharecancersupport.org/outreach/share-ambassadors

The Harlem support group for women of African descent meets at Countee Cullen Library at 104 W. 136th St from 4-5:30pm on March 19 and April 16 and from 5-6:30pm on February 5, March 5 and April 2. Interested participants can register at 212.382.2111.

Community venues looking to schedule an Ambassador presentation or drop-off of materials can contact Dominique Bethea, Outreach Manager, at dbethea@sharecancersupport.org

About SHARE
SHARE is a national nonprofit that supports, educates, and empowers women affected by breast or ovarian cancer, with a special focus on medically underserved communities. SHARE meets women wherever they are with the insight of others who have been there too, creating a nationwide community where no one feels alone. SHARE's free services, provided in both English and Spanish, include support groups, expert-led educational programs, national Helplines, community outreach, online communities, corporate education programs, advocacy opportunities, caregiver support, and survivor-patient navigation.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Melissa Sakow
Communications Director
SHARE Cancer Support
Telephone: 1-212-937-5573
Email: Click to Email Melissa Sakow
Web: https://sharecancersupport.org

Los Angeles, CA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 11/23/2018 -- Hardly any parenting magazines feature Black children on the front cover, let alone contain issues that pertain specifically to Black families. Identifying a need to change this, Janice Celeste is launching a <a href="https://http://www.gofundme.com/sbp-inaugural-magazine">gofundme campaign to relaunch the highly respected Successful Black Parenting magazine.

Successful Black Parenting magazine ran in the 1990s. The magazine was founded by Janice Robinson-Celeste, an Early Childhood Educator with a Masters degree in Business. It offered support to Black families and considered issues that are unique to them, from health and hair care to culture and parenting. With a degree in Early Childhood Education and a master's degree in business, Celeste is ideally placed to contribute to a publication that addresses matters that are relatable to Black families in 2018 and beyond.

Today, there are magazines available for different communities and cultures, and there are separate publications for men and women because certain issues are specific to a gender. The same applies to Successful Black Parenting. This is a magazine about the culture of the Black family internationally, not skin color, with most of the articles based on statistics, research and the Black family experience.

A gofundme campaign has been launched to raise funds to publish the inaugural issue of Successful Black Parenting. Donations are needed in order to meet the $5,000 goal. The plan is to print the inaugural issue in June 2019 to sell advertising and to then distribute it in September 2019. The magazine will be distributed to professionals who work with Black parents.

Since it will feature Black children on the cover and throughout, Successful Black Parenting will help to enhance positive body image, which is essential to foster confidence, self-esteem and good citizenship.

"Black children are rarely represented in mainstream parenting magazines," explained Janice Celeste, Editor in Chief of Successful Black Parenting. "But it's crucial that children see positive images of themselves in the media to encourage a positive racial identity.

Donors that pledge US$100 or more on the gofundme page will have their name listed in the inaugural issue and on the Contributor's Page on the website. They will also receive a copy of the magazine and a personal thank you shout-out on Twitter

"The more money you give, the more copies we can print," said Celeste. "And the more copies we print, the more money we save."

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Janice Robinson-Celeste
Telephone: 1-424-272-6717
Email: Click to Email Janice Robinson-Celeste
Web: https://www.gofundme.com/sbp-inaugural-magazine

African American Male Engineer On A Mission To Inspire Parents

Pittsburgh, PA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 09/20/2018 -- Author Naeem K. Turner-Bandele may be an outlier, but his progress thus far has not been the result of luck. That is of course unless you define 'luck' as the Roman philosopher, Seneca, did "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity."

It's become increasingly common for people to ask about Naeem's lucky life. Questioned routinely about things such as how he wound up playing soccer in Brazil, how he left high school after his junior year, how he became multilingual, how he became an engineer, and how he decided to pursue a Ph.D. Regardless of the variation of the questions, the answer is always the same. According to Naeem, "Who I am and what I've done begins not with luck but with parents who have always been zealous advocates for my life. Before I was born my parents created a template for my life – a backward design strategy that continues to prepare me each day to overcome challenges and maximize opportunities."

Immensely grateful to his parents, Naeem wrote: "¿Qué haremos hoy? (What Are We Gonna Do Today?)". Naeem knows there is no way that he can repay his parents for all that they did. Moreover, he knows his parents do not expect and would not accept repayment of any kind.

"The one thing that I'd like to do to honor my parents for encouraging and inspiring me is to pay it forward. "I'd like to be a catalyst for other parents to see the immense value of having affirmed and supportive relationships with their children."

"¿Qué haremos hoy? (What Are We Gonna Do Today?)" is a beautifully illustrated activity guide (available in both English and Spanish) to help parents remain intentionally involved with their children year-round. "¿Qué haremos hoy? (What Are We Gonna Do Today?)" chronicles two inquisitive children questioning their parents ¿Qué haremos hoy? alternatively, "what are we gonna do today?". "¿Qué haremos hoy? (What Are We Gonna Do Today?)"' highlights things I did with my parents that not only intensified my curiosity but laid an excellent foundation for how to approach life. I can't imagine what my life would be without intentional and actively engaged parents."

Naeem knows what he is going to do today and tomorrow. Naeem's life mission statement includes using technology to create products and services that enhance the human condition especially for those who have been historically and geographically disenfranchised and underserved. In the immediate, Naeem hopes that "¿Qué haremos hoy? (What Are We Gonna Do Today?)" encourages at least one parent to read with and be actively engaged in their child's life.

About Naeem K. Turner-Bandele
Naeem K. Turner-Bandele is a first-year Ph.D. student at Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The Zionsville, Indiana resident and Santa Clara University School of Engineering alum patterns himself on being a man for others. He is proficient in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Part of Year-Long Culturally Relevant Conversations & Lessons

Los Angeles, CA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/06/2018 -- February is Black History Month for hundreds of Southern California schools. However, here at Celerity Educational Group, we celebrate cultural diversity and relevancy every month throughout the academic year in each of our seven public charter school campuses. Our educators engage all our students in real-life topical conversations and integrated-curriculum activities based upon a core tenet of Celerity's unique educational model - Culturally Relevant and Responsive Education.

Black History Month provides a special educational opportunity at Celerity. There are times when teachers, parents and community leaders must explain situations which are painful and unfair. In today's society, students of all ages are faced with social and cultural issues at every turn. Rather than shying away, Celerity's goal is to provide each student with a creative learning outlet to express themselves.

Celerity is excited to announce events and activities throughout the month of February:

Performing Arts Showcase - Hitsville, USA: A Motown Story

This year, students at all Celerity schools - Himalia, Octavia, Nascent, Rolas, Achernar, Palmati, Cardinal - will put on a performance of Hitsville, USA: A Motown Story. Motown started as a record label, but it became so much more. A place, a style of music. A cultural celebration of social and racial equality, a family comprised primarily of black artists, but into which all were welcome.

Celerity students will experience the story of Motown through the eyes of Bernadette, an aspiring young black reporter, as she struggles to find her journalistic voice while maintaining her integrity. Each school will host individual shows for families and community members featuring outstanding talented performances by all Celerity students. Performances will begin February 20th and continue through March 8th.

1st Annual Celerity Black History Poetry & Art Competition

Students are encouraged to write a poem or create artwork demonstrating their connection to the events, people, movements, music or dance during the Motown period (1960-70s) and the relevancy happening today. Winning students will have their poem or artwork featured in the program for the performance of Hitsville, USA: A Motown Story. To guide students through this process, teachers during the school day and in our after-school program are engaging students in lessons and discussions revolving around these connections and how to express them on paper.

Forgotten Images Traveling Museum - Civil Rights Exhibit

Coming to Celerity schools for Black History Month, the award-winning Forgotten Images Traveling Museum provides an authentic and informative journey through the African American experience in America from slavery to the present day. Students receive guided tours of the acclaimed Civil Rights exhibit which includes segregation signs, lunch counters, water fountains, and March on Washington relics. Docents will guide students through these exhibits and students will participate in youth discussion panels to discuss social and cultural issues. The Traveling Museum will be visiting several Celerity campuses from February 9th to February 16th.

For more information, visit http://forgotten-images.com/.

"Here at Celerity, we view education about race, culture and social justice just as important as education about math, reading, and writing. Our unique educational model is not relegated to certain months, but rather occurs throughout the academic year, both through planned lessons and teachable moments," said Nadia Shaiq, Interim CEO and Chief Academic Officer. "When our students are taught Black History, they develop an understanding of themselves and others. In many cases, they will see similarities between African Americans and other groups undergoing similar struggles. Making these connections help form our students into global thinking citizens who will make our world a better place. Black History Month activities provide perfect opportunities to get students talking in a positive way and find creative outlets to express themselves."

Journey Out of Fat, Dumb, and Ugly follows the story of a woman named Journey who learns to overcome her low self-esteem while challenging herself to believe the positive affirmations she creates. The book addresses the issues of a diminished self-worth and how it contributes to decisions that lead toward the present state of one's life and existence.

Author Cherie Esteves has made it her personal mission to help women and children who have suffered as a result of living in environments of physical, mental, verbal and emotional abuse, whether voluntarily or against their will. She herself once suffered from poor self-esteem, feelings of inadequacy, and depression while trapped in a bad long-term relationship. Using methods that worked in her own life, Journey Out of Dumb, Fat and Ugly maps out instructions for making a change. This book will be appreciated because it isn't a how-to guide: it is a story of triumph. Readers will become thoroughly invested as they are taken on the roller-coaster ride that is the main character's life. The book offers advice on how to turn pain into power and discover purpose.

"I'm always looking to improve myself and my relationships by seeking to reach the next stage of personal development in order to advance my life and become the very best version of myself," said Esteves. "I wrote this book to help others by using a solution that has personally helped me break free from the pattern of self-sabotaging thoughts and destructive behaviors."

This book includes Esteves's personal, twenty-one life-changing thoughts, and is a must read for anyone who desires to change the direction of their thoughts and life.
The Double Bass – Entertainment on high level with Top Performer

The Double Bass player's tail begins in a small apartment, where a lonesome double bassist in his mid-thirties drinks beer and chatters on about his instrument's importance to the orchestra. He begins by telling short stories about the double bass's history and plays it with pride. Slowly and steadily, however, he begins to realize that his instrument has always taken the spotlight in his life. As his speech shifts, he begins to find fault in his instrument, and laments at how it is taken the spotlight most of his life. Laden with comic relief and parallels, this play is a lighthearted, but introspective look into the life of a man who has felt undervalued, lonely, and has experienced unrequited love.

There will be two performances of The Double Bass: Saturday, October 15 at 2pm and Sunday, October 16 at 2pm, at the George Washington Carver Museum in Austin, TX. Tickets available at the box office of the Carver Museum for $20.
Human Dignity in Prisons is Top Priority by Governments in Other Developed Nations, Not So in U.S.

Denver, CO -- (ReleaseWire) -- 08/24/2016 -- A Just Cause continues to fight for families and friends to be treated with respect and decency as they visit their loved ones in federal prisons. AJC has contacted numerous members of Congress and Federal Bureau of Prisons Director Thomas Kane to intervene in continuing harassment and disrespect by prison staff to inmates and their families in the visiting room at the minimum security federal prison camp in Florence, Colorado. "Florence prison officials told me that the inmates greeting loved ones from the Colorado Springs Fellowship Church group is considered 'special treatment' and will not be tolerated because it is a threat to security and presents an opportunity to pass contraband," says Lamont Banks, Executive Director of A Just Cause. "The church group has been visiting for four years without incident under two Wardens, but when Warden Stancil took over in March 2015 the church group were viewed as potential criminals and have been treated poorly by staff ever since," adds Banks.

Torri Lopez, a member of the church group, speaks about his experience arriving at the entry to the compound to visit David Zirpolo (IRP6). "I was greatly offended when Correctional Officer Price asked why I and my daughter were coming to visit and didn't I have anything better to do with my time," says Lopez. "What I do with my time is none of his business," muses Lopez. "The attitude by Florence prison officials are representative of a widely-accepted U.S. philosophy that promotes retribution versus rehabilitation and characterizes its incarcerated as people that should be despised by society," adds Banks.

Unlike the United States, other developed nations, such as Germany and the Netherlands are based on rehabilitation, human dignity and privacy, and they both have significantly lower recidivism rates than the U.S. On April 3, 2016, Bill Whitaker of the show Crime and Punishment toured German prisons and interviewed Joerg Jesse, the Director of Prisons in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a state in northern Germany. Whitaker told Jesse that Americans think crime and punishment. "The incarceration, the imprisonment itself is the punishment. The loss of freedom. That's it," says Jesse. Norway agrees. In March 2016, the BBC reported, according to the Directorate of Norwegian Correctional Service, that prison should be a restriction of liberty, but nothing more. The wrongly-convicted IT execs known as the IRP6 speak about their experience at Florence.

"I was wrongly-convicted and didn't realize how profoundly priceless freedom is," says David Banks (IRP6). "Our justice officials and the vast majority of American citizens would have to walk in our shoes to understand. There is no greater loss for the living than being stripped of your freedom and when you are innocent the loss is exponentially greater," says David Banks. "I was told by one prison guard that their goal is to make prison more difficult so the inmate doesn't want to return. I suppose that's why some Wardens and staff, not all, have a pile-on attitude and attempt to deprive us and our visitors of the basic human dignity of greeting family and friends," says David Banks. "I describe many of the Florence correctional officers as adversarial to me and my visitors," says David Zirpolo (IRP6). "I feel we are being punished by the prison for simply expressing our love for one another," adds Zirpolo. "It's as if the staff resents or is jealous of our family and friends faithfully visiting us for 4 years because they think we are despicable, vial human beings," says Clinton Stewart (IRP6). "Warden Stancil and other prison management are quick to remind us that this is a federal prison as if that gives them a license to deprive us and our visitors of human dignity and decency," says Ken Barnes (IRP6). "When we filed a grievance because of the unfair treatment, Warden Stancil suspended our visiting privileges and tried to ship us hundreds of miles away from our families," laments Barnes. "The treatment has been difficult on my 10-year-old son and my teenage daughter who was treated poorly because she brought female items for her monthly cycle," says Demetrius Harper (IRP6). "My son has been forced to leave because he had on sweatpants," adds Harper.

After visiting Germany's Prison, John Wetzel, Pennsylvania's Secretary of Corrections said: "I think more than anytime in the history of our country, we have the right and left agree that we've -- frankly screwed up the corrections system for 30 years and it's time to do something different. It really starts with understanding that, you know, a human being's value isn't diminished by being incarcerated."

Judicial Complaint Dismissal Shows Judiciary Has Deep-rooted Aversion to Admitting Mistakes, Says Advocacy Group Just Cause.

Denver, CO -- (ReleaseWire) -- 08/18/2016 -- In an August 15, 2015 letter to Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, advocacy organization A Just Cause, citing bias, asks that an appeal for a 10th Circuit judicial complaint by the IRP6 defendants be transferred to another circuit (http://bit.ly/2b06RpM). A Just Cause says in the letter that 10th Circuit Chief Judge Timothy Tymkovich's claims that the complaint does not provide "sufficient evidence to raise an inference that misconduct has occurred" defies reality. There is "irrefutable evidence" that the trial judge and 3-judge appellate panel appear to arbitrarily and intentionally depart from prevailing law, use prosecutorial conjecture in the place of actual facts from the printed record and were "willfully indifferent" to constitutional violations that occurred at trial. AJC further states in the letter that there is a "high probability" that 10th Circuit judges may "harbor a deep-rooted bias" against the IRP6 defendants and their organization due to harsh public criticism about the judges' handling of the case.

To view the appeal filed by the IRP6 click http://bit.ly/2ba9827

"The trial record clearly shows that the judges ignored both a federal statute and prevailing law of the 10th Circuit and Supreme Court," says Lamont Banks, Executive Director of A Just Cause. "It amazes me that some judges will allow men to wrongly sit in prison and let wives and children continue to suffer because they are unwilling to swallow their pride, admit mistakes or correct intentional wrongdoing by their colleagues," adds Banks. "Our criticism of judges in the IRP6 case is definitely appropriate," contends Banks.

Federal judge Andrew D. Hurwitz of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals wrote an essay in the 2014 Arizona Law Review about judges owning up to their mistakes. The Wall Street Journal reported on Judge Hurwitz's remarks on June 9, 2014. "To err is human," said Hurwitz. "To make a mistake and stubbornly refuse to acknowledge it -- that's judicial," added Hurwitz. "Confession is not only good for the soul, it also buttresses respect for the law and increases the public's understanding of the human limitations of the judicial system," said Hurwitz. AJC addressed the human side of judges to Chief Justice Roberts as a reason that the judicial complaint appeal be moved to another circuit.

"Judges are human and the chief judge's complete failure to address the allegations with any seriousness or specificity raises questions about his impartiality," AJC wrote in the letter. "We suspect that many other judges in the 10th Circuit may find it too difficult and uncomfortable to judge the actions of peers in their circuit," the letter stated. A Just Cause argues to Roberts that the publicity from the complaint being published in the Denver Post online and posted on a local talk radio website as well as the case being featured in the Washington Post (http://wapo.st/29jXqSC) supports transferring the appeal to another jurisdiction.

Rule 26 of the Rules of Judicial Conduct and the Judicial Disability Act gives the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court authority to transfer a judicial complaint to another circuit where the "issues are highly-visible and local disposition may weaken public confidence in the process or where a complaint calls into question policies or governance of the home court of appeals." "We just want to ensure that the judicial complaint process is fair and impartial and don't believe that is possible in the 10th Circuit," the letter concludes.

The IRP6 case concerns six information technology executives of the IRP Solutions Corporation in Colorado Springs, Colorado, who, according to former federal appeals judge H. Lee Sarokin, were wrongly-convicted in a Denver federal court (Case no. 09-cr-00266-CMA) and imprisoned for "failing to pay corporate debts." Sarokin has petitioned President Obama for clemency on behalf of the IRP6 and was prominently featured in the Washington Post article mentioned above. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Kirsch and presided over by Judge Christine M. Arguello.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Lamont Banks
Executive Director
A Just Cause
Telephone: 855-529-4252
Email: Click to Email Lamont Banks
Web: http://www.a-justcause.com

A Day After Filing Complaint About Visiting Room Discrimination With BOP Director & Congress, Visiting Privileges Suspended By Warden Stancil, Says Advocacy Group A Just Cause

Denver, CO -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/25/2016 -- On July 21, 2016, A Just Cause issued a press release concerning the Warden allegedly engaging in a campaign of bullying families and a church group that visits the men known as the IRP6. On July 22, 2016, the men were called into the office of Camp Administrator Segovia where Acting Warden Garrido, Associate Warden Johns and the captain were present. Reliable sources claim that, "They were told their visiting privileges were suspended until further notice. Later that evening, the men were called to the Counselor's office and given official written a notice from Warden Stancil stating: "effective immediately, and pursuant to the authority in Bureau of Prisons Program Statement 5267.09, your social visiting privileges have been temporarily suspended pending the outcome of an investigation into possible threats to the good order or security of the institution," says A Just Cause.

Program Statement 5267.09 states: "The Warden has the authority to restrict or suspend an inmate's regular visiting privileges temporarily when there is REASONABLE SUSPICION that the inmate has acted in a way that would indicate a threat to the good order or the security of the institution." PS 5267.09 goes on to say that "reasonable suspicion exists when reliable information and/or facts are presented to the Warden that the inmate is engaged, or is attempting to engage in criminal or other prohibited behavior" and that "reasonable suspicion must be directed to the inmate(s)/visitor(s) in question."

"This appears to be obvious retaliation and vindictiveness by Warden Stancil and the other staff because we not only filed a complaint with BOP Director Kane and pursued action with Congress, but publicly exposed their misconduct," claims Lamont Banks, Executive Director of A Just Cause. "Moreover, one of the men filed a formal grievance with the prison. We will not be deterred and will continue to aggressively pursue action against Warden Stancil and the rest of his staff involved in this alleged conspiracy against the church group and these men," adds Banks. "The IRP6 have been model inmates, and their family and church members have visited the prison every week for 4 years straight without incident," says Banks. Warden Stancil's sudden termination of visiting privileges under the guise that the church group is engaged in criminal or other illicit behavior is absurd and we are certain BOP Director Thomas Kane and Congress will see this for what it is, unlawful retaliation," adds Banks.

According to BOP Standards of Employee Conduct, retaliation or discrimination against those who report a misconduct is prohibited and carries a maximum penalty as severe as having employment terminated. The 2014 10th Circuit case of Pinson v. Berkebile says "retaliation for filing lawsuits and administrative grievances violates both the inmate's right of access to the courts and the inmate's First Amendment rights."

"Stancil, Garrido, Segovia, Johns, Captain Giconi and correctional officer Betts are clearly abusing their power and authority and we are requesting that Director Kane immediately take corrective action to reign in their abusive behavior and reinstate visiting privileges for the IRP6 and the church group," adds Banks.
