Veganuary – A Great Alternative to Dry January: Grown Up Hydroponics Comments

Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/12/2017 -- While many people are committing to Dry January, pledging to quit the booze for 31 days, many others across the globe are instead opting to participate in Veganuary instead – vowing to follow the vegan diet for the month and eliminating meat, fish, diary, eggs and honey from their diets. So far a record 50,000 have signed up, and it is anticipated that even more are going to follow suite, and attempt the vegan diet in another month of their choice.

By many it is thought that the vegan diet, even if only followed for such a short spell can bring multiple health benefits and advantages, and studies have been conducted to prove this also. Some of the health benefits that the vegan diet offers includes weight loss, cut blood pressure and so much more. Not only this, but in addition it also promotes the animal rights argument and the sentiment that animals shouldn't be eaten or used at all during food production.

A spokesperson from Grown Up Hydroponics, a company thoroughly passionate about the importance of vegetables and hydroponic growing was keen to comment saying, "It is great to see so many people making the transition to the vegan diet, even if it is for only one month. We are however sure that many taking part in the campaign will change their views and diets for life after realising the amazing benefits and changes."

Vegetables Replacing Meat by 2020: Grown Up Hydroponics Comments

Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/18/2016 -- The Observer has released a new blog which states that vegetables will replace meat by 2020, a variety of chefs, food activists and scientific research have all agreed that this shift was going to happen and that vegetables will now dominate the plate of the American dinner.

It has been reported that consuming too much meat could lead to a variety of diseases, for example: type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke and certain types of cancer. However, vegetables have been known to reduce these diseases and a study has found that getting your protein from vegetables such as lentils can increase life expectancy, therefore if more people consume more vegetables it will only lead to a healthier future.

Huge Urban Farm Sets Lofty Ideals

Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/25/2016 -- Atop of an abandoned 1950s block of offices, tomatoes, micro greens and vegetables are being grown in what is being tipped as Europe's largest urban farm. The abandoned offices were once the mainstay of operations for the Dutch telecommunications giant Phillips. Now a sea of fresh greens can be seen high above the building located in The Hague.

The roof space boasts a whopping 1,200 square metres where all of the produce is grown. With hydroponics leading the way for the most sustainable and simple method for use absolutely anywhere, there is no reason not to grown all over the most unusual of spaces and of course the benefits of growing produce in this way are untold. It reduces the carbon footprint of transportation of the produce, particularly when being distributed locally.

The firm behind the green space are called UF002 De Schilde and their key aim is deliver the produce to some 900 local families, restaurants and schools with circa 50,000 tonnes of fresh greens each year.

A spokesperson for Grown Up Hydroponics said "We are always over the moon when we hear about urban farms and projects which further aid in reducing the carbon footprint and aiding in quite literally, a greener future. We hope to see so many more inspiring and groundbreaking urban projects like this come to manifest all over the globe."

Could Vegetables Soon Be Grown on Submarines? Grown Up Hydroponics Comments

Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/22/2016 -- US navy researchers are conducting tests with the intentions of growing sustainable gardens using hydroponics on submarines. This is because currently three-month deployments are taking fresh produce which lasts them a mere ten days. If the new project works out as it is anticipated to do so, soon deployed sailors will be able to grow and enjoy fresh vegetables for their entire durations, instead of relying on frozen alternatives.

Don Holman is the engineering technician at the forefront of this experiment and is currently growing vegetables in a 40ft container, using hydroponics to ensure maximum control. So far 83 varieties of vegetables have been tested, 51 of which have been successful – including kale, lettuce and a number of root vegetables. The main challenge will be to scale down the garden to fit on submarines with limited space, but it could happen, we will all just have to wait and see.

A spokesperson from Grown Up Hydroponics was keen to comment saying, "We don't know whether this is going to happen, but it could, don't forget that that last year NASA grew lettuce in space. Access to fresh fruits and vegetables is vital and this is why we urge people to grow hydroponically where possible as this growing method ensures the highest quality produce at all times."

Hydroponics to Feed Rural Arctic Villages: Grown Up Hydroponics Comments

Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/16/2016 -- An Alaskan Native company is working hard to grow fresh produce for rural villages using hydroponic technology as farming outside in the tundra of the artic has proven unsuccessful. The Alaskan company are already growing kale, spinach and a range of lettuces inside shipping containers and are hoping to produce enough to feed the Kotzebue villagers all year-round.

In Kotzebue it can take up to two weeks from being picked to make it to grocery stores by which time many are in dire conditions and still expensive. Because of this, Alaska Commercial have finally agreed to purchase enough hydroponic equipment to stock its 28 rural grocery stores in turn enabling the people within the villages to eat better for less.

UK based hydroponics company Grown Up Hydroponics is backing this solution fully and a spokesperson for the company had this to say, "It is really important that everyone, no matter where they are in the world are able to purchase and eat greens affordably, this is something close to our hearts and are really happy to hear about these plans."

Nasa Marsian Tomato Initiative

Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/21/2016 -- Hydroponic growing is rapidly being hailed as the future of sustainable food production due to its numerous benefits. Hydroponic growing involves the growth of plants using artificial light in a nutrient packed, water based solution without the need for soil. This means that hydroponics can be set up anywhere to effectively and efficiently produce and supply food.

Tomatosphere is an initiative which has evolved into a regular component of the science curriculum in the United States and Canada and is operated by a consortium with First the Seed Foundation and Let's Talk Science. Pupils study the effects on the growth of food having been in space conditions with the enquiry to support humans traveling to space in the future.

Over 600,000 tomatosphere seeds were launched into space to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2015 to spend 5 weeks in space. Upon their return to earth, the seeds were distributed to around 18,000 classrooms across Canada and the States for pupils to be able to study the effects of a space environment on food production. Each classroom is delivered two packets of tomato seeds, one which has been in space and one control packet which has not. The aim of the experiment will be to compare the germination rates of the space seeds to the control. The pupils and teachers do not know which packet is which until germination is complete and the results have been finalized in order to carry out an effective blind test experiment.

A spokesperson for Grown Up Hydroponics said "Tomatosphere is an incredible initiative and it's a shame we don't have access to it here in the United Kingdom. The initiative highlights the benefits of hydroponic growing as a sustainable yet incredibly practical method for growing any food and we hope to see more innovative uses for hydroponics in the future".

Grown Up Hydroponics Provide New Shield Sulphur Vaporiser

Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/22/2016 -- Recent news has drawn attention to a product proving popular within agriculture and plant-growing, particularly in terms of hydroponics. This product is the Shield Sulphur Vaporiser which allows for better pH regulation in plant growing areas and helps to eliminate pests and fungal diseases. The instance of plants being affected by contaminants at this type of year is increasing and therefore it is expected that this will be an increasingly popular product, now offered by Grown Up Hydroponics.

The Shield Sulphur Vaporiser is an intelligent development using scientific features. It involves a sulphur cream, which carefully evaporates sulphur to then leave a fine coating of it, ready to be added to plants. This does not damage the vegetation and instead can create a pH capable of eliminating mildew as well as serving as a kind of barrier against fungal diseases which cannot be sustained in a sulphurous atmosphere.

Therefore the possible benefits of completing a grow project along with this kind of vaporiser has led to increased attention. Grown up Hydroponics has recently started stocking the product and a spokesperson had this to say:

"Whatever crops you are growing, keeping conditions infection-free and balanced is essential, so you can allow for the healthiest possible plants and yields. That is why the Shield Sulphur Vaporiser can be an ideal tool. It is a convenient unit using a scientific method, allowing users to make the most of their grow space."

Hydroponics Industry Set for Growth by Up to 16.8% by 2020: Grown Up Hydroponics Comments

Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/24/2016 -- There are big things expected for the global hydroponics industry this year; highlighting it as a method of growth with plentiful potential - using indoor units and nutrient solution rather than soil to grow crops in an advanced method. According to Markets and Markets, which conducts reports on industry progress, the hydroponics market is expected to reach a global worth of $395.2 million by 2020.

The figures highlight continued growth, thought to be linked to the increasing popularity of hydroponics systems in the US and the UK.It is in turn important that buyers in these countries do benefit from such a positive industry at this time – including having access to the best equipment and prices. A provider proud to be at the forefront of hydroponics in the UK is Grown Up Hydroponics, keen to comment on the figures.

Not only is further growth expected in the hydroponics industry, but by a considerable amount - at an estimated CAGR of 16.8% between 2015 and 2020. This is expected to be partly because more of the general public, especially in countries such as the US and UK as aforementioned, are taking active interest in buying hydroponics systems for themselves. As healthy, ethical food is increasingly trendy, hydroponics could be considered the next logical step to people being able to source their own food sustainably. Therefore, predicted growth could be fuelled by consumer interest, and also the prospect of more accessible pricing for equipment – as championed by providers such as Grown Up Hydroponics. A spokesperson had this to say:

"It's no wonder that big things and continued growth are expected in hydroponics; as it is a highly efficient method of crop growth people can manage even in their own homes. We are proud to be part of this continued positivity and therefore will carry on offering affordable, exciting equipment."

Hydroponics Is at the Forefront of Light-Food Fusion: Grown Up Hydroponics Comments

Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/23/2016 -- Hydroponics could be seen as helping with important research into the best growing conditions for commercial crops, following a series of experiments in America; revealing just how important it is for the future of food. It was Suntech Greenhouses Ltd and owner Bob Mitchell who decided to install blue, red and bright light emitting diodes (LEDs) when growing tomatoes in an indoor hydroponics farm. It was found that these LED lights affected different tomato types differently with some such as grape tomatoes increasing in growth, whilst bigger fruits such as beefsteaks did not endure. This shows that hydroponics is offering a way to learn more about and experiment growing food with greater efficiency; something Grown Up Hydroponics was keen to comment on.

After all, hydroponics is a method where plentiful progress has already been made over the years. This includes unlocking the ability to boost growth and ensure bigger yields, as well as introducing the best formulations of nutrients. Grown Up Hydroponics are prime providers of a range of hydroponics equipment and take pride in recognizing the ability of hydroponics to put new discoveries at the forefront of food production. A spokesperson had this to say:

"Not only does hydroponics have high yields when it comes to plant growth – after all, users can expect bigger blooms and boosted yields with this soil-light method – but it yields scientific discovery too. That's why further important progress is expected to be made with hydroponics systems - especially so growers can achieve the ideal nutrient and light combinations for their plants. We offer a wide variety here at Grown Up Hydroponics."
