Jacksonville, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/23/2016 -- With the Christmas period typically seeing an increased risk of counterfeit banknotes being passed, The Bank of England is urging all retailers to ensure that all banknotes passed in transactions are checked, and also encouraging employees to make sure that their staff members know how to spot counterfeit notes and are aware the procedures that should take place when in doubt. Failing to recognise counterfeit notes can not only result in a business's losing money but also retailers reputations being damaged should they be accidentally passed on to the public.

Things to check include:
Paper banknotes
- The watermark
- The feel of the paper and the raised print
- The holograms
- The metallic thread
- The motion thread on the £50 note

The new polymer £5 banknotes
- The see-through window and the portrait of the Queen
- The foil patches
- The Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) is gold on the front and silver on the back

A spokesperson from a leading security company, Associated Security, was keen to comment saying, "Here at Associated Security we think that it is great that The Bank of England is encouraging retailers to pay close attention to the notes that they receive, especially at this time of year.
Five Facts About the New £5 Polymer Notes: Associated Security Comments

Jacksonville, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/22/2016 -- The new polymer £5 notes made using incredibly thin and flexible plastic have now been released and are in circulation throughout England and Wales, and in line this with the BBC have revealed five things that everyone should know about these new and improved notes. These are as follows:

1. The new polymer notes are marginally smaller than the existing paper £5 notes and they utilise new, innovative security features which have been designed with the intention to make them harder to copy.
2. The new notes will be cleaner, and last longer that the old ones. People in London have already been trying to damage these notes, and failing whilst documenting their attempts to pour water on them, tear them and more. They are incredibly tough.
3. The old paper £5 notes can still be used as normal however The Bank of England are going to be gradually withdrawing them as businesses and people pay them into banks.
4. £10 polymer notes are set to be released in the summer of next year and if things go to plan the £20 polymer notes should be here at 2020.
5. Already over thirty countries worldwide are taking advantage of polymer bank notes, including but not limited to New Zealand, Australia and Canada.

A spokesperson from dominating supplier and installer of sophisticated security products in the UK Associated Security was keen to comment on the arrival of the new notes saying, "Although to the general public the release of these new notes probably seems quite exciting, with many attempting to get their hands on one ASAP, for businesses a few problems could arise. For example businesses that use machines to recognise deposited notes could now have to update their machines. Luckily for these people here at Associated Security we offer a wide range of polymer ready cash management solutions which are ideal for a vast array of uses – these can all be found on our website."

Associated Security Offer Solution to Stop Latest ATM Scam

Jacksonville, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/16/2016 -- You have probably seen all over the news that criminal gangs have found a brand new way to take people's money; a way in which only takes them mere seconds. Using distraction techniques criminals are now causing scenes to grab people's attention, and whilst looking away, they're quickly swapping their cards for fakes – after looking over their shoulders to catch their PIN numbers that is.

Barclays has released a video showing how this scam works, whilst also revealing tips on how it can be avoided going forward. In addition to this, they have also advised that banks and cash machine owners alike can take steps in order to stop these crimes from occurring, such as the addition of PIN shields from Associated Security for example. PIN shields are available in a wide variety, yet all have the same intentions. When PIN shields are in place, criminals, and anyone who is not the user, are unable to see PINs that are being entered and therefore are a lot less likely to execute criminal activities.

A spokesperson from leading ATM protection provider Associated Security was keen to comment saying, "ATM's are now at considerable risk of attack and therefore it is of utmost importance that protection measures are put in place. Here at Associated Security we have a wide range available including ATM Plinths, ATM Pods, Locking bars and ATM Anti Explosion mats, so whatever your individual needs and requirements may be, we are bound to have a solution ideal for you. We also would like to take this opportunity to strongly urge all ATM users to use machines with PIN shields where possible."

Associated Security Reveal Five Important Things to Consider for All Businesses Looking to Purchase Safes

Jacksonville, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/22/2016 -- The UK's industry leader of the supply, installation and service of sophisticated and quality security products Associated Security have recently revealed five important considerations for all looking to purchase safes for business. In their most recent blog post, here are the six things that the company urged people to think about:

1. Purpose. Before purchasing a safe it is important to think about what is going to be kept in it as this will provide a guide into what size and feature are needed.

2. Quantity. It is also important to consider whether items kept within the safe are going to be multiplied at a later date, as if so it is advised to get a safe with more space to save having to update to larger models constantly.

3. Location. Locations for safes should be decided before purchasing to ensure that they will fit in the desired space. Also, weight should be considered as heavier safes above 500kg should be placed on ground floors.

4. Access. If only one person will be accessing the safe, a secure key lock can be used however if multiple people will need access digital locks are advisable.

5. Insurance. It is important to liaise with insurance companies before getting a safe to make sure contents are covered.

A spokesperson from Associated Security was keen to comment saying, "We are happy to have been able to provide these tips to all considering purchasing safes as we are aware that many people can find it overwhelming. We always try to offer the best guidance, whether that is through our blog, or over the telephone."

Uk Security Legislation to Be Challenged in Landmark Hearing

Jacksonville, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/20/2016 -- UK security legislation has come under fire at the European Court of Justice (ECJ). In an emergency hearing, the ECJ will assess whether bulk data collection is allowed as outlined in the UKInvestigatory Powers Bill (IP bill) which is currently under parliamentary review. Judges will ascertain whether self-authorized data retention by security companies breaches European Privacy law. The upcoming Investigatory Powers Bill will be largely impacted upon by the decision of the ECJ.

The human rights group Liberty believes that surveillance is a useful and necessary tool for crime fighting but only when targeted. The approach is currently to bulk store everyone's data with no safeguarding which is deemed excessive. Bulk data collection has gained notoriety in the headlines in recent times with pressure on the Government to regulate and control collection.

A spokesperson for Associated Security commented "Whilst large scale surveillance is widely accepted as necessary and effective in reducing crime, the mass collection of data without proper regulation is completely unacceptable. The whole practice and process should be reviewed to ensure protection and security of the data for all involved".

Retail Fraud London Exhibition Highlights Importance of Deposit Safes

Jacksonville, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/05/2016 -- Deposit safes appear to be an increasingly important purchase for modern businesses, as emphasized by announcements that the Retail Fraud London exhibition will be taking place on the 21st April, with a number of secure solutions due to be on display. This also draws particular attention to what appears to be a growing popular focus for businesses; improving the security of cash on site. It raises the point that retailers especially are a major modern target market for solutions such as deposit safes, because although retail fraud and methods of carrying it out advance over time, it is still not a match for traditionally-secure, time-serving solutions such as deposit safes.

Fortunately, a number of businesses are making provisions for these needs, including Associated Security.

The Retail Fraud London exhibition also emphasizes that more businesses than ever are looking to technically-advanced systems as a way to secure their assets – therefore drawing a link between security and technology. Modern deposit safes are an example of a product combining these factors, provided by key experts such as Associated Security. A spokesperson had this to say:

"We combine technically-designed safes with quality British manufacture to provide long-lasting security solutions. After all, the upcoming Retail Fraud London exhibition is set to emphasize popular interest in opting for advanced internal security measures; and we can tailor these to particular commercial needs – therefore responding to modern demand. We provide bespoke cash and deposit safes for retail outlets built to their requirements; in particular safes that contain numerous compartments reducing the need for separate safes and thus freeing up space too. All these are features that matter when achieving a secure solution to minimise retail fraud."
