Newsround Reveals Trick to Make Children Like Veggies: Hydroponica Comments

Upper Poppleton, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/24/2017 -- Newsround has recently published an article revealing the findings of an experiment that has been completed with a group of UK school children, looking into how we can get children to like vegetables more. The study was designed to see if training ourselves to like foods that we didn't previously is possible – and it seems like it is.

The study entailed a group of young scientists between the ages of 9 and 11 eating a piece of green kale every day for fifteen days. By the end of the fifteen day experiment a lot of the children did find that they enjoyed the vegetable slightly more. This means that it is possible for us to train ourselves to like vegetables and food more.

However, during the study the scientists discovered something else... for some people it is harder for people to get used to foods, this is because they have more fungiform papillae on their tongues – these are what contains our taste buds. People with more fungiform papillae therefore taste things more intensely and these people can find it more difficult to get used to flavors.

A spokesperson from a leading hydroponics equipment provider, Hydroponica, was keen to comment saying, "The findings of this study are great, and we would like to thank all of the young scientists involved. In addition to this trick however, there are other methods available for those looking to get their children to eat more veggies, including that of hydroponic growing. Hydroponic growing can urge children to eat their vegetables, as they are able to assist with growing them which can be incredibly rewarding and exciting. Who doesn't want to indulge in food that they have grown themselves?"

Brexit Could Wipe out Fresh British Vegetables: Hydroponica Comments

Upper Poppleton, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/21/2016 -- It has recently been reported that eliminating migrant workers from the supply chain could result in the abolishment of fresh British vegetables, with one leading British farmer in particular warning that if Brexit immigration controls are to prevent thousands of Eastern Europeans from working in the UK like planned, our supermarket shelves will no longer be able to offer British produce.

Guy Poskitt, the farmer in which the warning has come from has claimed that it is simply impossible to source enough British laborers to do the work needed to produce fresh British vegetables and that within as little as five days after taking away migrant workers, there would be no British vegetables on shop and supermarket shelves. Even when paying £9.50 per hour, without foreign workers from Eastern European countries the industry would likely collapse, this is because many locals are not willing to take the agriculture jobs on offer due to the physical labor that is often involved and also the small prospects for advancement.

A spokesperson from one hydroponics equipment provider however, Hydroponica, is urging people to take up hydroponic gardening in order to allow people to continue to enjoy fresh and nutritional produce regardless of what happens, saying, "It would be a real shame if shops and supermarkets did stop selling fresh British vegetables however thanks to hydroponics people will always be able to grow their own, which will be much tastier and more nutritious too. Hydroponics also boasts a range of incredible advantages for example it allows for growers to grow almost any vegetable within their own homes, regardless of outdoor seasons and weather conditions. It opens up so many miraculous opportunities."

Kids in Wales Eating Fewer Fruits and Vegetables Each Day: Hydroponica Comments

Upper Poppleton, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/26/2016 -- Each year the Welsh Health Survey carefully examines the eating habits of children in Wales and publishes the findings. This year's recordings were shocking to many, showing that more children are eating a greater amount of sweets and confectionery than they are fruit and veg.

The findings highlighted that the number of children eating fruit and vegetables on a a daily basis has steeply declined, and has been dropping year to year for quite some time. Alongside this nearly a third of the children eat sweets every single day and this is a figure that continuously rises each year.

A spokesperson from Hydroponica, a leading supplier of hydroponic equipment was keen to comment saying, "It is so sad that so many children are not eating the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables and we strongly believe that hydroponic growing is something that could change this. We think that by growing hydroponically children will not only have so much fun, but will get to learn all about vegetables in a 'grown up' way. They will also likely want to taste their veggies which will then probably convert them since hydroponically grown produce is much tastier and satisfying."

Pest and weeds – Autumn is the best time is deal with any deep rooted and woody weeds; this will prevent them from building up during the winter period.

Law treatments – During autumn regularly remove fallen leaves from lawns to improve their health. It is also a good idea to aerate lawns using a fork to allow rain to penetrate more deeply and feed the lawn so that the lawn will stay healthy and green.

Resewing lawns – The warm ground in autumn makes for an ideal time for germination so this could be a great time for all to reseed and repair any bare patches so that they can be ready for spring.

Vegetables to Grow in Autumn: Hydroponica Comments

Upper Poppleton, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/23/2016 -- Many think that when autumn comes to an end, all there is left to do in a garden is harvest the fruits and vegetable which have been grown however this is not true and autumn is actually as important as spring when it comes to gardening. Autumn is a key time for gardeners to prepare and get ahead for the next growing season and some crops can even be grown throughout September and even further on, depending on the weather. Here are some crops that can be grown:

- Leafy vegetables. Lower light levels mean that sown vegetables will no longer fruit and flower however leafy crops still have plenty of time remaining.

- Christmas potatoes. In you plant seed potatoes this month in a pot, you will be able grow the potatoes for your Christmas dinner.

- Garlic. Providing ground isn't too tough or waterlogged, garlic can now be grown up until February.

- Broad beans and peas. From September to mid-November, sowings of broad beans and peas can be carried out.

A spokesperson from leading provider of hydroponics equipment in the UK, Hydroponica was keen to comment saying, "For people whom are looking to grow a wider variation of vegetables and produce through the autumn and winter period, hydroponics equipment such as propagation grow tent kits could help vastly. Due to hydroponic gardeners being able to have complete control over not only nutrient intake but also lighting ad more, they don't have to grow crops depending on the season and can instead grow whatever they like, whenever they like."

Upper Poppleton, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/23/2016 -- Since 2009 the Paignton Zoo in Devon has been utilising hydroponic farming to feed a large majority of its animals – not only diversifying animal feed but also vastly increasing nutritional density. The hydroponics system located at the zoo works to grow a range of nutritious crops including spinach and lettuce and the approximately 2000 animals that live at the zoo greatly enjoy these.
The hydroponics project that has been in place at this zoo represents the 1st ever zoo-based sustainable growing lab and showcases how zoos could feed their animals going forward. Growing hydroponically is beneficial for numerous reasons including but not limited to the following:

- Absence of weeds, toxic pesticides and soil-borne pests
- Better use of water
- Better control over oxygen and nutrient intake
- Increased crop quality and nutritional value
- Greater yields
- Shorter grow times
- Low food miles

A spokesperson from Hydroponica, leading hydroponics equipment supplier was keen to comment saying, "It is great to see that a zoo is utilising hydroponics to feed their animals and we are sure that going forward many other zoos around the world are going to follow in their footsteps also.

Hydroponics is becoming more and more popular across the world each and every day as there is a rising emphasis on food security, limited natural resources and implications of climate change on crop production worldwide, and already hydroponics systems are in place in parts of the world where malnutrition and hunger are an issue. We strongly believe here at Hydroponica that the hydroponics industry is only going to continue to grow, and are so happy that is something that we are able to be a part of."

Hydroponics Market Value to Grow from $19.95 Billion to $27.33 Billion: Hydroponica Comments

Upper Poppleton, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/24/2016 -- The hydroponics market value is set to grow from $19.95 billion in 2015 to a whopping £27.33 billion in 2020.

Hydroponics is a sub segment of hydro culture which utilises water and nutrient rich solutions to grow pants and produce without having to incorporate soil, which can often be detrimental to growing. This modern farming method is gaining popularity quickly, as many people are realising how advantageous it is when compared to other traditional manners of growing.

Hydroponics is said to be the fastest modern farming practice on a global level, with it currently being used in a high number of countries, and proving to be exceptional useful within countries which would otherwise struggle to obtain fresh produce.

A spokesperson from leading UK hydroponics supplier Hydroponica was keen to comment saying, "It has not come as a surprise to us here at Hydroponica that the market value is set to increase so much, as over the past couple of year we really have seen a surge in demand for hydroponics equipment – with more and more people choosing the modern method over traditional alternatives."

Vertical Farming on the Rise in Singapore: Hydroponica Comments

Upper Poppleton, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/25/2016 -- Due to lack of farmland and space in Singapore, vertical farming methods are now becoming increasingly popular – with more farms opting to utilise high-tech, hydroponic methods to overcome limitations. Hydroponic growing not only enables people to grow in much smaller spaces but is also easier and more manageable too, requiring less maintenance.

One farm in particular Pocket Greens is a vegetable farm sized just 1,500 sq ft. It is here that three people work to harvest 30kg of vegetables daily. Another great example is Sky Greens who produce around 1,000kg of vegetables per day and have only 10 members of staff. It is anticipated that next year Sky Greens will have reached its full capacity and will be producing up to 10,000kg per day.

A spokesperson from UK hydroponics company Hydroponica was keen to comment on the growth of the Singapore hydroponics industry saying, "It is great to see Singapore reaping the benefits of hydroponic growing as it can be incredibly difficult for people in busy areas to receive fresh produce. This is also the reason why hydroponics farms have started to crop up throughout London. Hydroponics however is advantageous for so much more than these reason for example hydroponically grown produce can be more nutritional and taste better."

The Largest Flower Market in the World

Upper Poppleton, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/17/2016 -- A recent BBC documentary The World's Biggest Flower Market explored behind the scenes of the flower bouquet industry and revealed where many of the bouquets found in supermarkets come from. From farms in Kenya, to a huge auction in the Netherlands – it was something in which many viewers definitely found incredible.

In Kenya the majority of flowers that we purchase in the UK are grown in hydroponic tunnels where they are watered three times a day before being cut. They then undergo a plethora of treatments involving antibacterial solutions, clever temperature controlling and more. After this, they start their journey across the world, first of all stopping off to be taken to auction and then to their final destination.

A spokesperson from hydroponic equipment supplier Hydroponica was keen to comment on the show saying, "The documentary was an excellence watch and really highlighted the demand for flower bouquets in the UK. Who knew that this year's Valentine's period - 25 million stems went through the airport each day? It really showed the incredibleness of hydroponic growing too, something in which we promote as much as we can."
