Marine WiFi Perfected With the WirieAP

Island Consulting, Inc. launches The WirieAP, a Long Distance Marine Grade WiFi Solution for Boats and RVs with Built in Access Point

Newburyport, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/16/2011 -- Modern technology evolves and improves constantly, and Island Consulting, Inc., the company behind the long range marine WiFi system The Wirie, is not staying behind. As a result of months of research, testing, development, and collaboration with Alfa Network, Inc. (a leading provider of networking hardware), Island Consulting brings you a new product that will fulfill the needs of modern long-range WiFi users and that will blow the existing marine WiFi competition away. Introducing… The WirieAP.

The WirieAP uses most of the high-grade components of The Wirie and is still fully waterproof, but contains a wireless access point (router). This "hot spot" allows the customer to create his/her own local wireless network on their boat or RV. No Ethernet or USB cable is required and the unit is powered by a simple 12V DC electrical cable.

The WirieAP allows all WiFi enabled devices, like laptops, iPods, iPhones, chart plotters, and printers to connect to the local access point and in turn share the long range internet connection. Mark Kilty from Island Consulting, Inc. reports, "These days, most cruisers have more than one laptop onboard and iPods and iPhones have gained a lot of popularity. Now it is possible to use all those devices and share an internet connection with The WirieAP in an easy manner. Existing systems were overcomplicated and made this type of technology difficult for most users." Information can also be shared among the different devices without needing access to the internet. The full potential of an onboard WiFi network is now easily accessible to all consumers.

The WirieAP is a wireless, long range marine grade solution that enhances the user's ability to get online from the comfort of their own boat or RV without the use of complicated Ethernet cables. All that needs to be done is connect the system to the boat or RV's 12V battery bank. No software is needed and a single user interface to manage both the onboard network and the long-range internet connection makes management of The WirieAP extremely simple.

Like the original Wirie, The WirieAP is built with high quality marine grade components. A one-year warranty and 10-day return policy are offered and suburb customer service is standard.

For the competitive price of $350 USD, The WirieAP will fulfill all WiFi needs while cruising and sailing by boat or while traveling and camping by RV. If a full wireless router is not needed onboard, The Wirie will continue to be available for $250. All existing Wiries are easily upgradeable to The WirieAP with The WirieAP upgrade kit. This kit, which comes with all hardware and detailed instructions, is available for $120 for a limited time, after which the price will increase to $150.

Marine WiFi Enhanced: Island Consulting and L-com Team up to Make The Wirie an Affordable, Truly Marine Grade WiFi Solution for Boats and RVs

Newburyport, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/15/2010 -- Technology changes rapidly and as a company building WiFi equipment, Island Consulting strives to offer the best. Since the beginning, Island Consulting has continuously made improvements to The Wirie, a long range WiFi solution for boats and RVs. The most recent development in creating a better product involves a high-end marine grade WiFi antenna. To achieve this goal, Island Consulting partnered with the well-known US antenna manufacturer, L-com.

L-com, a leading antenna manufacturer in the wireless connectivity business for over 27 years, agreed to produce a marine grade antenna exclusively for The Wirie. Designed to stringent specifications, the new Wirie antenna is an 8dBi omni-directional high performance marine antenna that features sealed collinear brass elements inside a durable UV-stable white fiberglass radome. The sealed end cap ensures no water entry and drain holes in the base help prevent moisture build-up inside the antenna.

The collaboration between Island Consulting and L-com offers the consumer an economical alternative to other true marine grade WiFi devices currently on the market. "We believe our partnership with L-com has allowed us to turn The Wirie into the most durable and best long range WiFi solution available for boats and RVs", states Mark Kilty from Island Consulting. According to Karl Blomgren, L-Com's Product Manager, "L-Com is always interested in working with customers, like Island Consulting, to optimize our antennas for their applications to support new product enhancements." Additional information about The Wirie's new antenna can be viewed at http://www.thewirie.com/antennadetails.html.

For $250, The Wirie enhances the customers' ability to connect to the internet from the comfort of his/her own boat or RV. The Wirie continues to offer many unique features: flexible stainless steel mounting bracket, easy to install and use software, comprehensive user manual, powerful 1000mW WiFi adapter, IP67 waterproof box, and superior customer support. The Wirie is easy to upgrade as technology continues to advance. In addition to the new antenna, the warranty of The Wirie has been extended to 1 year. The 10-day money back guarantee is still in place.

Through the joint effort between Island Consulting and L-com, The Wirie is a truly marine grade WiFi solution at an affordable price.

The Wirie: Long Range WiFi Solution for Boats and RVs Made Easy

Newbury, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/21/2010 -- Get yourself connected! The Wirie, a thoroughly researched and thought out long range wireless internet system invented and developed by cruisers for cruisers, is ready to conquer the boating and RV world. The Wirie is a complete WiFi system that provides much longer range and more stable connections for wireless internet on your boat or RV. It is easy to use and install, waterproof, very powerful, upgradeable, affordable and has a variety of mounting options.

Mark Kilty and Liesbet Collaert from S/V Irie, like most budget minded cruisers, used to take their laptops to shore to access the internet for research, weather information and communication with friends and family. During these trips, the laptops had to endure rain, spray and a lot of shock. Once on land, a WiFi hotspot had to be located to be able to get "connected". They got tired of the hassle and time involved with the event of getting online and looked for an affordable, decent product to help access the internet from the comfort of their boat. When they didn't find what they were looking for, they built it themselves, and called it The Wirie, a combination of their boat name and WiFi.

A lot of research and time was spent putting the "perfect" unit together. It had to be powerful, waterproof, affordable, easy to use, and contain marine grade materials. They also wanted to be able to remove the WiFi adapter from the waterproof case to use it on shore with the laptop if needed. With this unique design, the adapter could also be replaced with newer technologies in the future.

A sailing trip in April 2009 proved The Wirie's effectiveness and qualities. Other cruisers showed interest, more Wiries were built, and the whole concept became a success in the Caribbean over the following months. Shortly after, a quality website was developed and Tim Kilty of Island Consulting, Inc. became a part of The Wirie crew. Tim's technical background and his love for boating allowed for some evolution in Mark and Liesbet's Wirie design and for growth in manufacturing and worldwide shipping. From that point forward The Wirie was available online to an international audience.

During the rest of 2009, research continued, improvements were made to the website, manuals were updated, a more powerful WiFi adapter was added and the RV market became a target. Input from local users prompted new custom-made brackets that will fit horizontal and vertical poles, giving The Wirie yet another edge on the competitors.

Now, Island Consulting, Inc. feels that The Wirie truly is the best and most affordable WiFi solution available on the market for boats and RVs. While enriching customers with The Wirie and providing customer service and advice, the company also keeps an eye on new technologies and continues to research and use them accordingly to improve their product in the future.
The Wirie costs $250 and is for sale online at http://www.thewirie.com.
