OPEC has recently used an E-Series Oil Mop Skimmer unit and heated separator tank to remove surface 'FOG' (Fats Oils and Greases) from a cheese making factory in the UK.

Batley, West Yorkshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/03/2010 -- OPEC http://www.opec.co.uk has recently used an E-Series Oil Mop Skimmer unit and heated separator tank to remove surface 'FOG' (Fats Oils and Greases) from a cheese making factory in the UK. The system deploys a endless belt of mop down into the sump which skims oils from the surface which are then wringed out through the machine and drop the contents into the ST5 oily/water separator tank.

The butter fats were very high in fat content and difficult to deal with. All the fats had to be melted quickly in order to ensure that they can flow into collection IBC, 1000 litre containers ready for removal from site.

The waste butter fats from the factory have a use as raw materials for other uses which can add good value back to the factory.

Not only this but the removal of these butter fats helps the effluent treatment plant work correctly without blockages to the screens and will reduce chemical dosing to DAF and other dosing tanks as less free oil content will be present in the effluent process.

The skimmer also means a reduction in nasty odours which build up over time in the sump and can be a cause for complaints.

Batley, West Yorkshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/14/2010 -- OPEC's Mop Skimmers http://www.opec.co.uk are currently been used successfully to help clean up a large brownfield site in the UK to remove polluted hydrocarbons in the water table.

Traditionally boreholes are drilled and ground water is pumped and treated to remove hydrocarbons. By using the OPEC mop skimmers and ST5 gravity oily/water separators to transfer oils from the boreholes to 1000 IBC's ready for collection. This is a big saving in man power and logistics of moving and treating polluted ground water in brownfield sites.

So far the machines are recovering more than 6000 litres per week of polluted hydrocarbons. In some cases the waste oils can be re-cycled and used for secondary fuel use in cement kilns and blast furnaces.

OPEC supply four specialist spill kits for the offshore oil industry.

Batley, West Yorkshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/23/2010 -- OPEC has just supplied four specialist spill kits for the offshore oil industry. The kits include oil spill dispersant which is applied to the decks during an oil spill by use of a special eductor spray set as pictured below. The eductor draws in the dispersant from the 25 litre containers and dilutes it with sea water from the fire hydrant system on deck.

The spill kit also consists of pipe repair couplings of varying sizes for different diameter pipes to temporary repair leaks. It also is equipped with sorbent pads, hand mops, shovels, oil absorbent booms and an air powered double diaphragm pump.
