MATRIARCH: Place/Time/Memory

Matriarch: Place/Time/Memory illuminates the interconnectedness between one's sense of place, our perceptions of sound organized in time, and the impressions they leave behind.

Exploring the Moog Matriarch synthesizer from their personal home studios, multi-instrumentalist Lisa Bella Donna, Ghostly Intl. electronic producer Max Ravitz (Patricia), Anthem / Call of Duty / Assassins Creed composer Sarah Schachner, and Paris Strother of Grammy-nominated R&B duo We Are KING express 4 unique sonic perspectives on the new instrument within the context of their own creative environments.

Continuing its tradition of debuting new synthesizers at Moogfest (Minimoog, Subsequent 37 CV, Grandmother), Moog Music will be offering a Sneak Peek of Matriarch to the public this Weekend at Moogfest 2019.

Ahead of Matriarch landing in studios and on stages this summer, Moog Music is offering a hands-on preview of the new instrument during Moogfest 2019, the annual music, art, and technology festival held in honor of electronic pioneer Bob Moog. The American synthesizer manufacturer brings their synth-building experience to Durham with the Moog Pop-Up Factory, where Moog invites the public to play and explore pre-release Matriarch synthesizers. Visitors also have the opportunity to discover what it takes to bring a new piece of technology into the world by engaging Moog Production Engineers as they live-build Matriarch onsite. The Moog Pop-Up Factory is free and open to the public April 25 - 28 at 300 Blackwell Street (Bay 7) Durham, NC 27701.

An exclusive Moogfest Edition of Matriarch is available for pre-order through Guitar Center, either onsite at the Moog Pop-Up Factory or through https://www.guitarcenter.com/Moogfest.gc from now through April 28. These Moogfest Edition Matriarch Synthesizers will be the first 250 instruments to ship from the employee-owned Moog Factory this summer.

Moog Matriarch is available for pre-order through all Authorized Moog Dealers worldwide starting Monday, April 30.

About Matriarch
The pinnacle of Moog's semi-modular family of synthesizers, Matriarch's patchable architecture and classic Moog circuits reward open exploration with endless sonic possibilities and unparalleled analog sound. Matriarch's 4 analog VCOs can be split into 4 notes of paraphony that can be sequenced, shifted, and stored with the instrument's intuitive 256 step sequencer, or stacked in unison to create a massive 4 oscillator mono synth.

With a deep assortment of synthesis modules based on Bob Moog's original circuit designs, Matriarch's 100% analog signal path spans a dynamic sonic vocabulary – from overdriven monophonic bass to gently evolving paraphonic plucks that cycle through waveshapes into a wash of infinite delay trails. Coupling the power of vintage-designed stereo ladder filters, dual Envelope Generators, stereo Analog Delays, and stereo VCAs, Matriarch delivers a multi-dimensional sound that empowers the sonic exploration of both space and time.

Though Matriarch's semi-modular design requires absolutely no patching, 90 modular patch points are easily accessible throughout the panel via the included 3.5mm patch cables. This powerful electronic instrument is a highly-versatile addition to any stage or studio that can effortlessly transform from a performance keyboard into a fully modular analog synthesizer at a moment's notice.

In addition to its standalone function, Matriarch is also an ideal processor of external sound sources and a powerful keyboard front-end for expanding a DFAM, Mother-32, Grandmother, or Eurorack modular system.

About Moogfest
Since 2004, Moogfest has been a forum for the exchange of ideas by artists, futurists, inventors, entrepreneurs, and scientists.

By day, Moogfest is a platform for conversation and experimentation, attracting creative and tech enthusiasts for four days of participatory programming in Durham, North Carolina. By night, Moogfest presents cutting-edge performances by early pioneers in electronic music, contemporary pop innovators, and avant-garde experimentalists in venues throughout the city.

Moogfest is a tribute to analog synthesizer pioneer Dr. Robert Moog and the profound influence his inventions have had on how we hear the world over the last 60 years.
Grandmother: Moog Music Debuts New Synthesizer at Moogfest 2018

Durham, NC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/17/2018 -- Today, Moog Music announces Grandmother, a new tool that empowers creative humans to give meaning to vibration -- inviting new waves and new ways of communication into our quantum world. Grandmother is a semi-modular analog synthesizer with a built-in arpeggiator, sequencer, and spring reverb tank that will officially debut at Moogfest 2018 (May 17-20 Durham, NC), where visitors to the Moog Pop-Up Factory can get hands-on with the latest Moog synthesizer and watch as the new units are crafted on-site by Moog Production Engineers. The Moog Pop-Up Factory is located at 318 Blackwell St, Durham, NC and is free and open to the public from 10am-6pm, May 17-20.

The first 500 Moog Grandmother synthesizers have already shipped and are available for order today exclusively through Guitar Center. The Moogfest Edition Grandmother includes a special limited edition Moogfest 2018 badge and includes a redeemable vintage denim Moog jacket.

Grandmother is a sonic playground that harkens back to Moog's modular roots, where synthesis is not only about the end result, but the journey of discovery and experimentation. Grandmother's semi-modular design ensures that human beings of any skill-level can easily explore and experience the joys and magic of analog synthesis -- start playing immediately with "no patching required", then explore an infinite sonic playground with Grandmother's endlessly reconfigurable front panel and analog spring reverb tank.

Grandmother's circuits, spirit, and spring reverb are inspired by the classic Moog Modular Synthesizers designed by Bob Moog during the 60s and 70s. The elegant simplicity and magic of these early circuits are renewed in Grandmother's semi-modular analog design, resulting in an unrestricted sonic vocabulary that is both beautiful and powerful.

Grandmother also features an "External Audio Input" that invites users to inject sounds from other instruments directly into Grandmother's analog filter, reverb and amplifier circuits -- adding vintage tones and ambience to guitars, drums or vocal signals. In addition, Grandmother includes an easy-to-use Arpeggiator and Sequencer for added enjoyment and programmable syncopation.

To explore the sonic possibilities and cosmic context of Grandmother, Moog Music visited the Linear Labs studio of artist-composer Adrian Younge (Black Dynamite, Netflix's Luke Cage). In THIS VIDEO, Younge gives his personal "Thesis On Sound" while incorporating Grandmother into his retro-inspired creative workflow at Linear Labs.

"It's our heedless human desire to connect with others that fuels the incendiary need to create sound. Thereupon, sound is a primordial passion we omnipotently share with others, and music is a manifestation of this appetite conveyed with instruments that magnify our message. That magic, at that moment -- is sound." - Adrian Younge

IBM Watson Creative Director Added to Moogfest Keynote Program; Full Festival Schedule Revealed, Including Special Ralph Steadman Exhibit

Durham, NC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/19/2018 -- Today, Moogfest unveils the full schedule for its 2018 festival, including artist-led workshops and conversations, film screenings, the addition of IBM Watson Creative Director Jennifer Sukis to its keynote program, and the premiere of a traveling exhibit from artist Ralph Steadman featuring many never-before-seen works.

Keynote speaker Jennifer Sukis's journey as a visual creative has progressed from branding to interfaces, and then apps to A.I. So, too, has her vision for how advancements in computing technology can solve long-standing problems in user design and experience. Her keynote will touch on how A.I. will influence human shifts into new creative frontiers and how we're already tapping into the limitless creative applications waiting therein for mass usage.

As a companion to her keynote, IBM Watson Design Lead Maya C Weinstein will lead two workshops on enhancing design applications through cognitive technology. Participants will work directly with A.I. modules currently being used to inspire art and music at the highest levels, and use design thinking to conceptualize and collaborate on a specific project. No prior experience is necessary for participation.

The full schedule revealed today also includes over 200 workshops, masterclasses, and conversations along with this year's film programming, among which are "Bight of the Twin," Genesis P-Orridge's exploration of the origins of voodoo in Benin; the Bedroom Community tour film "Everything Everywhere All the Time"; Gavin Rayna Russom's experimental short, "No More White Presidents"; the Armen Ra biopic "When My Sorrow Died"; and more. All films will be accompanied by an artist conversation directly following the screening. The Moogfest 2018 local programming announcement also accompanies the schedule release. Durham collective and record label Raund Haus, along with dance music curators The Floor have assembled a full slate of performances from local producers and DJs, plus one very special guest to be revealed at the festival.

Additionally, Moogfest and United Therapeutics are excited to welcome the Ralph Steadman Art Collection's exhibition of a selection of the renowned artist's original works, Harmon-INK!, which will live within the annual Moog pop-up. Included in this exhibition are drawings and sketches from the filming of "Where the Buffalo Roam" and originals from the never-before-published Rumble in the Jungle series, companion pieces to Hunter S. Thompson's ill-fated account of the epic clash between Mohamed Ali and George Foreman in Kinasha in 1974. One piece in particular was considered lost until it was discovered in the effects of Norman Scott this year and returned to the collection in time to be displayed for the first time ever at Moogfest 2018. To accompany the exhibit, Moogfest will be screening "For No Good Reason," a documentary about Steadman introduced by the artist himself via Skype.

Harmon-INK! is made possible from the generous support of United Therapeutics, who are key sponsors of the Ralph Steadman Retrospective, scheduled to begin touring the U.S. this June.

Moogfest 2018 is presented by United Therapeutics, American Underground, and Moog Music Inc., with support from 21 Museum Hotel, Blizzard Lighting, and the Durham Convention Center. For more information, visit moogfest.com.

Moog Announces Return of the Synthesizer IIIp to Production for Limited Time

Asheville, NC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/27/2018 -- In the late 1960s, Bob Moog and a team of ten skilled technicians began hand-building cutting-edge musical instruments that they called "synthesizers" — instruments that would radically change the landscape of music.

The world got turned on to the idea of the synthesizer — and electronic music — through the visionary works of experimental musicians during the late 60s and early 70s. Wendy Carlos composed her sonic masterpiece Switched On Bach using the electronics of a customized Moog Synthesizer III — creating space for artists like George Harrison to employ his Moog Synthesizer IIIp on the Beatles' Abbey Road sessions, and Isao Tomita to shape the sounds of "classitronica" using the first Synthesizer IIIp in Japan on Snowflakes Are Dancing.

Although production of Synthesizer IIIp was discontinued in 1973, these original modular systems designed by Bob Moog are inimitable in sonic character and remain highly coveted for their limitless reconfigurability and vibrantly organic musicality.

Nearly 50 years later, we are proud to announce the return of the Moog Synthesizer IIIp to production for a very limited time.

Every Synthesizer IIIp will be built using all-original documentation, art, and circuit board files. Moog Synthesizer IIIp production is highly limited. Only 40 units will be produced and sold worldwide.

Moogfest 2018's First Talent Announcement Includes Chelsea Manning Leading Female and Transgender Lineup

Announcement Celebrated TODAY with 50-Hour “Always On” Global Livestream

Durham, NC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 12/07/2017 -- Today, Moogfest unveils a festival lineup led by female, non-binary, and transgender artists, including a keynote conversation with privacy rights and political transparency activist Chelsea Manning on The Future of Creativity. The announcement is celebrated by 'Always On', a 50-hour livestream presented in partnership with Tom Tom Magazine from Today at 12:00 pm ET to 2:00pm ET on December 8, 2017.

Chelsea Manning's keynote conversation will explore how technology enables radical disruption in the personal and political spheres, framing the technological future as a new creative landscape. Since its introduction in 2014, the Moogfest keynote has unearthed new perspectives on the future of creativity – tackling questions about how creativity will evolve and what tools will shape creative expression in the future. Like the festival's namesake, Dr. Bob Moog, these world-renowned thinkers and futurists bring to life the tools and ideas that deepen our existence. Manning follows in the footsteps of other groundbreaking thinkers; past Moogfest keynote speakers include: transhumanist Dr. Martine Rothblatt, VR pioneer Jaron Lanier, Dr. Kate Shaw from the CERN Large Hadron Collider, Harvard's Dr. Joe Davis, and philosopher Nick Bostrum.

Rounding out today's announcement, Moogfest reveals some of the artists who will be participating in the festival's nighttime program including LCD Soundsystem synth experimentalist Gavin Rayna Russom, gender ambiguous theremin virtuoso Armen Ra, Kuwaiti conceptual artist Fatima Al Qadiri, Afrofuturist DJ Maliibu Mitch, hyperkinetic pop maven SOPHIE, and the US debut of revered Japanese multi-instrumentalist Midori Takada. Building on the experimental format of previous years, these artists will participate in Future Sound performances by night complemented by the same artists leading Future Thought workshops, and conversations by day.

Today's announcement is celebrated by "Always On," a 50-hour livestream with continuous performances from female, transgender, and non-binary artists. Presented in partnership with Tom Tom Magazine, the livestream highlights the abundance of female, transgender, and non-binary artists actively creating and performing electronic music and beats around the world – from a home-studio in South Africa, to the Moog Factory in North Carolina. The global livestream begins today at 12:00 pm ET and anyone can tune-in for free at http://AlwaysOn.Live. The "Always On" celebration will continue at the festival in May, with some of the artists participating in the livestream also participating at the festival including Goddess of "electronic psychedelic soul" Sassy Black, Discwoman's middle eastern dance experimentalist DJ Haram, percussive activist Madame Gandhi, avant pop sound sculptor Katie Gately, multi-instrumentalist provocateur Stud1nt, and former Au Revoir Simone hypnotic synth master Annie Hart. Many of these performances will be part of the free and open-to-the-public programming throughout the festival weekend.

The Final Countdown: Minimoog Model D Production Ending with a Banger by Mike Dean

Asheville, NC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 06/30/2017 -- Today, we announce that after a whirlwind year back in production, our limited re-issue run of the iconic Minimoog Model D synthesizer is coming to a fast end. To commemorate the close of production of the world's first portable synthesizer, we invited prolific producer Mike Dean to spend one day creating a new Minimoog Model D track at the Moog Factory in Asheville, NC. Dean wrote and recorded the new track "Three Jewels" on the Minimoog build line while Moog production engineers crafted some of the final Model D synthesizers beside him. With the track completed in just five hours, Dean walked out of the Moog factory with its employees at the end of their shift--last year Dean spent a weekend at the Moog factory, crafting "Grande Faucon" in 48 hours.

The Minimoog Model D was originally introduced in 1970 and built until 1981. Then in May 2016, we resumed building the Minimoog Model D for the first time in 35 years. Orders for the synthesizer quickly outpaced our initial estimates, leading to the addition of a night-shift to meet demand for the iconic instrument. Our parts-inventory for the Minimoog Model D project was originally expected to span multiple years of manufacturing, but is being consumed at a much higher rate than anticipated. Thus, this second historical production run of the Minimoog Model D will reach completion much earlier than intended, and this marks the final opportunity to acquire a new Minimoog Model D.

This re-issue project has truly been a labor of love; from our deep dive into the varying designs of the original Minimoogs, to the restoration of classic production techniques required to adhere to 1970s specifications--we even had the opportunity to collaborate with our supply partners to reissue long-discontinued transistor technologies that were crucial to the Minimoog's legendary sound.

Through this adventure, we've had the honor of communing with innovative artists like Gary Numan, Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo) and the late Bernie Worrell (Parliament Funkadelic), whose intrinsic relationship with these circuits opened a cosmic channel through which they could share their love with the world, while also inspiring a new generation to explore the Minimoog Model D.

Since its introduction in the early 1970s, the Minimoog Model D has altered the course of music. It provided artists with a completely new type of instrument; one through which they could focus and explore the infinite sonic energy of analog electronic sound. And then it was gone--set aside in the 80s as the promise of digital synthesis moved in. Then last year, the Minimoog mothership returned into orbit at Moogfest and the iconic instrument once again resumed production at the Moog Factory. Not simply a story of life coming full circle, but rather an example of life's upwardly spiraling nature. We find ourselves at once returning to a point in the past, but with the perspective and knowledge of the present, forever on a path to the future.

The Minimoog Model D has been a part of our daily lives here at the Moog Factory for over a year now, and is woven into the fabric of our history. As we draw closer to the end of this limited production run, we reflect on this labor of love as one of the most rewarding and joyful projects we have ever undertaken.

Thank you for sharing in this creation and joining us on this magical journey.

Moog Music Announces the SUBSEQUENT 37 CV

Asheville, NC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/17/2017 -- Today Moog Music is excited to announce the SUBSEQUENT 37 CV. This limited-edition redesign of the ultra-powerful Sub 37 Tribute Edition analog synthesizer is limited to 2000 pieces worldwide, with the first 125 units built live on-site at Moogfest 2017. Anchored by a pair of solid aluminum side pieces inset with North American hardwood and affixed to a rugged steel and aluminum enclosure, it features four assignable CV outputs and two assignable Gate outputs for interconnectivity with large-format and Eurorack modular systems, an upgraded keybed for improved playability, a high-powered headphone amplifier for live-monitoring, and a modified analog signal path.

"We are really excited to incorporate community feedback into the evolution of an instrument. Adding CV interconnectivity was the starting point, but we have also increased the headroom in the mixer and significantly extended the range of Multidrive, giving the SUBSEQUENT 37 CV expanded sonic capability and modular control." - Cyril Lance, Moog Chief Engineer

The SUBSEQUENT 37 CV's mixer now has double the headroom of the Sub 37 Tribute Edition. Taking advantage of the mixer's newfound flexibility, the gain-staging of the Ladder filter has been reshaped to boost harmonic saturation and analog compression.
Moogfest Announces Suzanne Ciani as the 2017 Moog Innovation Award Recipient

Asheville, NC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/15/2017 -- The 2017 Moog Innovation Award will be presented to Suzanne Ciani at Moogfest 2017, the annual music, art and technology festival in Durham, North Carolina. This award recognizes her 45 plus years of genre-defying work that exemplifies the bold, innovative spirit of Bob Moog. Past recipients include visionary artists like Gary Numan, Devo, Brian Eno, Bernie Worrell, and Thomas Dolby, and synth designers like Herb Deutsch.

Ciani, the first woman to receive the award, superseded many of her male contemporaries as a synthesist, sound designer, and composer. Well known as an early protege and long-time devotee of Don Buchla, and a friend of Bob Moog, her use of synthesizers created entirely new sounds that opened minds around the globe to electronic music as a valid form of expression. She is a five-time Grammy nominated composer and the first woman to score a Hollywood film. Her work has been featured in countless commercials, video games, and feature films.

Today, Ciani continues to inspire generosity, curiosity, and experimentation for a resurgent, multi-generational community of synth-enthusiasts and electronic music fans. Ciani's 4-hour durational performance at Moogfest 2016 modulated between a rolling quadraphonic soundscape, stories about her early days working in New York, and tips for operating rare Buchla synths while spatializing audio. Ciani returns to Moogfest 2017 to receive the Moog Innovation award, where she will perform and be celebrated in a workshop, featured conversation as well as host a screening of a recently released documentary about her innovative life in electronic music.

Additionally, we are pleased to have more voices added to the choir at Moogfest...

Comedians often are the reflexive lens of culture, giving uplifting commentary to our often complex world. With this spirit in mind, comedian and actor Hannibal Buress will be joining us as the comedic lens and moderator in two conversations: One with the wildly inventive hip-hop producer & lyricist Flying Lotus, and another with psych-pop trio Animal Collective and legendary 1970's synth pioneers and psych outfit, Syrinx.

Chicago based experimental song stylists Circuit de Yeux will be added to this year's line-up, bringing her conversely expressionate sense of abstract pop to the Moogfest stage.

The Moog Synthesizer IIIc Returns to Production

Asheville, NC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/28/2017 -- Throughout the 1960s, Dr. Robert Moog collaborated with over 100 composers of electroacoustic music to create the synthesizer concept, born of thousands of design decisions and countless conversations. At the time, the available method of producing electronic music was the "classical studio," a makeshift production environment cobbled together from individual electronic sound-generators such as surplus telecommunications devices, radio equipment, and early tape machines. Moog and the musicians he worked with streamlined this classical studio technique into a system of standardized sound modules.

VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFubiCmmEXc

In 1965, Bob Moog began taking orders for individual modules and customized modular systems. By 1967, he and a team of ten skilled technicians were hand-building production models in an unassuming brick storefront in Trumansburg, NY. The cutting-edge musical instruments that they called "synthesizers" signaled electronic music's maturation from an awkward and shy intruder in the realm of music to a dynamic and significant medium of musical expression.

The first models were aptly named Synthesizer I, II, and III. With the introduction of the Moog Synthesizer IIIc -- the "c" referring to the walnut "console" cabinet -- musicians could purchase a complete instrument pre-configured for logical access to a range of facilities usually associated with the largest classical studios.

Each synthesizer took weeks of patient, steady crafting to complete, but the payoff would be rich -- a tool that would change the landscape of music.

The world got turned on to the idea of the synthesizer -- and electronic music -- through the visionary works of experimental musicians like Wendy Carlos and Isao Tomita. Sonic masterpieces like Switched On Bach and Snowflakes Are Dancing were made possible by the early modular Moog Synthesizers. These original modular systems designed by Bob Moog are inimitable in sonic character and remain highly coveted for their limitless reconfigurability and vibrantly organic musicality.

Fifty years later, we are proud to announce the return of the Moog Synthesizer IIIc to production for a very limited time.

"Through archival designs, so-called obsolete electronics, and outmoded production processes, we are rediscovering the magic of our past. It's a privilege to build instruments in this way; it lets us reimagine what future tools can be. There is so much potential in this history." - Anna Montoya, Moog Production Engineer

Every Synthesizer IIIc will be built using all-original documentation, art, and circuit board files. Each instrument features thirty-six hand-stuffed, hand-soldered modules, including ten 901-Series audio oscillators, the 984 Matrix Mixer, and the 905 Spring Reverb. All modules are securely mounted into two hand-finished, solid walnut console cabinets at the Moog factory in Asheville, NC.

Moog Synthesizer IIIc production is highly limited. Only 25 units will be produced and sold worldwide.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Jeff Touzeau
Email: Click to Email Jeff Touzeau
Web: http://www.moogmusic.com

The Haxan Cloak Releases a New Track in Moog's Sonic Origins Series

Asheville, NC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/13/2017 -- Bobby Krlic approaches music and composition from a place of primal perception. Performing under the name The Haxan Cloak, Krlic crafts haunting soundscapes by harnessing the power of shifting air molecules into brooding, undulating waveshapes.

Shortly after co-producing Goldfrapp's Silver Eye, the British synth mystic takes us into his Los Angeles home studio and weaves new aural patterns into a track called "Transposition #4". During breaks on his balcony, he reflects on the sonic origins that have shaped his artistic identity, "the golden thing" that makes the goosebumps come, and the amniotic bliss of low frequency sounds. Watch the video for an intimate perspective on one synthesist's roots and process.

"I set up the [synths] as such so one was Bass and then the other two were playing counterpoint melody lines. One sequence was seven notes, one was eight, and the Bass was a repeating seven-note pattern changing every four bars; I think this gave the piece comforting fluidity that was at the same time unpredictable." Listen to "Transposition #4" in its entirety here.

Sonic Origins is a series that unearths the elements of artist identity. Watch the first installment, featuring Russell E. L. Butler, here.
Possibilities range from Laraaji's workshop on laughter meditation, to building your own light theremin or square-wave oscillator, to a contact mic workshop with underground experimental music figurehead Pharmakon, to a workshop where NEW INC will try to build a simulated utopia, to a class on DJ fundamentals for kids with renowned Detroit techno producer DJ K-HAND, to using laser projectors for generating abstract visuals, to a hands-on workshop on the basics of

building modular patches for female and non-binary individuals, presented by S1 Synth Library. Below are some highlights from the over 100 workshops revealed today.

There is still time to get prioritized access to our vast array of unique workshops. To ensure that you get your seat, consider the Moogfest Engineering pass where you can build a festival-exclusive synthesizer with a Moog Music engineer, or a VIP Pass that grants you access to all of the activities of Moogfest and select VIP areas.

Masterclasses with Moogfest Artists & Makers

Masterclasses shared by Moogfest artists allow festival-goers and performers to work collaboratively in intimate environments that promote inclusion and involvement.

Legendary DJs Greg Belson and Peanut Butter Wolf will impart wisdom and musical storytelling learned through a life digging through record crates.

Artist Gotye will lead an intimate masterclass in the round on recently deceased electronic music pioneer Jean-Jacques Perrey's life, musical genius, and signature electronic instrument the Ondioline.

Video synthesizer designer and founder of LZX Industries Lars Larsen takes a moment to step away from the workbench and discuss the potential of modular analog video synthesis tools and workflow for the modern day video artist.

Ableton Live founder and electronic musician Gerhard Behles discusses the democratization of access to tools to create music and illuminate new ideas.

Hacking Systems

Reflect on how the last decade has been transformed by a host of arts-engineering software toolkits and engage with artists in the art of open-sorcery. In these workshops you'll learn to breadboard a square wave oscillator from a single integrated circuit while revealing the electric DNA of the modular synth genome with Elliot Inman; spontaneously compose a radio piece with non-profit online radio station Dublab, Container and Elon Katz; learn to use affordable, off-the-shelf hardware and free open-source software to design real-time musical devices to dynamically generate music to foster mindfulness with Ico Bukvic, founder and director of Virginia Tech's Digital Interactive Sound and Intermedia Studio.

Black Quantum Futurism

Moor Mother and Afrofuturist Affair guide workshops in this intersectional theory and practice that combines quantum physics, futurist traditions, and Black and African diasporic cultural traditions of consciousness, time, and space. Workshop participants will build future maps and quantum time capsules, shift cause and effect, and better understand the interaction between timescapes and soundscapes; use a DIY sci-fi lens to explore and reclaim mindspaces; create a sound space to combat oppression; and develop their own unique superhero identities.

Spatial Sound

Sound lives in more spaces than stereo. Experiments with "Spatial Music" have informed composition since the early 1900s. But today, 21st-century technologies for audio recording, production, and playback have revived an interest in surround sound and the three-dimensional potential of electronic music. In these workshops experience spatial audio in a 3D audio Space Jam under the guidance of Virginia Tech's ICAT faculty; learn ways to control spatial audio in a high-density loudspeaker array; learn how to code spatial effects using the free, open-source program SuperCollider; and hear how the power of immersive audio can become a compositional and audio-engineering tool to create new musical experiences.

Moog Music Saying Goodbye to the Last of the Voyagers

Moog says goodbye to the Minimoog Voyager XL, the last of the Minimoog Voyagers in production at the Moog Factory

Asheville, NC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 03/28/2017 -- The Minimoog Voyager family of synthesizers holds a special place in our hearts--the Voyager was the final synthesizer that Bob Moog designed from start to finish and the culmination of his life's work; his DNA runs through the circuits of this family of instruments, which includes the Voyager, Voyager RME, Voyager Old School, and Voyager XL. The XL is the last member of this family currently in production, and as of today, we are announcing its official discontinuation.

Introduced in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Minimoog Model D's release, the Minimoog Voyager XL combines the heart of the groundbreaking Minimoog Voyager with a patch bay, informed by the original Moog modular systems.

Since its release in 2010, the Minimoog Voyager XL has made its mark in film scores, sound design, on platinum records, and on stages the world over. Artists and producers ranging from Trent Reznor to Kanye West have used the legendary warmth and versatile patchability of the XL to craft their unique sound.

As we bid a bittersweet farewell to the Minimoog Voyager XL, we keep the spirit of its circuits front of mind as we design the instruments in our future, acknowledging that the XL is the last of the Voyager family but not the last of its legacy. We will build a highly limited number of units while parts and materials last, before bringing production to a close. Contact your local authorized Moog dealer or distributor to inquire about purchasing one of the final Minimoog Voyager XL analog synthesizers.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Jeff Touzeau
Email: Click to Email Jeff Touzeau
Web: http://www.moogmusic.com
