Qualifying Rounds Open To The Public at Thunderbird Firearms Academy Until May 31st

Wichita, KS -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/05/2017 -- A new pistol target competition will crown Wichita's Best Shot. The event is the first of it's kind in Wichita, and will have open qualifying rounds throughout the month of May. Qualifying rounds are conducted at the host range, Thunderbird Firearms Academy located at 2831 N Greenwich Rd, just North of K-96. Registration is $25 and includes a participant T-shirt and range fees. Registration can be completed online at WichitasBestShot.com or in-person at Thunderbird Firearms Academy.

Qualifying rounds are open to the public at Thunderbird from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day through May 31st. Quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place during June, leading up the Championship event on July 8th. The top 32, of the more than 200 anticipated participants, will move ahead to the quarter-finals. Participants can qualify using their own pistol or by renting a pistol at Thunderbird. Qualification involves 25 shots from a standing unsupported position, taken from a distance of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 yards.

The final champion will receive an XD(M)® 4.5 OSP™ 9MM pistol (MSRP $979) from Springfield Armory and the bragging rights of being Wichita's Best Shot for 2017.

The Four-Day Course Will Be Taught By World Renowned Instructor, Massad Ayoob

Wichita, KS -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/02/2017 -- Thunderbird Firearms Academy will be hosting a four-day, 40-hour immersion course for armed law-abiding private citizens on May 18-21, starting at 8:30 a.m. The class is $800 and attendees must have a basic understanding of firearms. The course emphasizes legal issues, tactical issues and aftermath management. Topics will include interacting with suspects, witnesses, responding police officers, threat recognition and mind-set, and the management of the social and psychological aftermath of having to use lethal force in defense of self or others. In addition, the class will cover how to prepare for legal repercussions and how to minimize your exposure to them. Situations in the home, at the place of business or "on the street" will all be covered.

Class attendees must bring their own handguns, holsters, a minimum of three magazines, a magazine holder, a belt, hearing protection, eye protection, headwear, suitable clothing, notebooks and pens, firearm cleaning supplies, a flashlight, lunches and at least 500 rounds of quality ammunition. It is recommended that students bring a spare gun in case their primary gun breaks.

Massad Ayoob, the course instructor, has received judicial recognition as an expert witness for the courts in weapons and shooting cases since 1979, and has been a part time police officer for over three decades. Ayoob founded the Lethal Force Institute in 1981 and served as its director until 2009, and now trains through Massad Ayoob Group. He has appeared on CLE-TV delivering continuing legal education for attorneys, and has been retained to train attorneys to handle deadly force cases.
