Entitled Reports That Cook County, IL, Homeowners Can Claim More Than $279 Million in Missed Homestead Exemptions

Tens of thousands of homeowners in Cook County, IL, are overpaying property tax as a result of missed Homestead Exemptions, proves recent studies by Matt Myjak, Co-founder and President of EntitledRefunds.com.

Chicago, IL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 10/12/2017 -- "Awareness of Homestead Exemptions is necessary to ensure property tax is fairly paid by homeowners," reports Matt Myjak of Entitled, a property tax company that differentiates itself by specializing in Homestead Exemptions. "In the current and prior three property tax years, homeowners have missed out on more than $279 million in General Homestead Exemptions and Senior Citizens Homestead Exemptions."

In addition to demonstrating that huge numbers of homeowners are missing out on Homestead Exemptions, the studies further show that they are more commonly missed in areas that are below the Cook County median household income level. This illustrates that unclaimed exemptions are hurting the property taxpayers who would benefit the most.

"Exemptions are not received automatically," says Myjak. "I've found in my experience helping homeowners correct exemptions and researching Cook County records that even homeowners who appeal their property taxes often overlook exemptions."

The General Homestead Exemption, or "Homeowners Exemption," and Senior Citizens Homestead Exemption, or "Senior Citizens Exemption," are the most common Homestead Exemptions in Cook County, IL, and were the focus of Entitled's studies. The analyses were prepared using data from Cook County, IL; the Illinois Department of Revenue; and the U.S. Census Bureau.

The results of the studies uncover that in the 2016 property tax year, more than 62,000 Cook County, IL, homeowners that qualified for the Homeowners Exemption didn't claim it, and more than 35,000 that qualified for the Senior Citizens Exemption made the same mistake. The result is overpaid property tax in 2016 for homeowners of $43.3 million and $17.5 million respectively.

The studies also reveal that homeowners who incorrectly did not receive the Homeowner Exemption and Senior Citizens Exemption are entitled to a collective refund from Cook County, IL, totaling about $206.3 million and $72.8 million for overpaid property tax, respectively, in years 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016, if corrected in the period August 2017 through December 2017.

Matt Myjak, President of Entitled Announces a Streamlined Process That Easily and Quickly Corrects Missed Property Tax Exemptions for Refunds

“Cook County homeowners are missing out on thousands of dollars in property tax savings,” said Matt Myjak, president of Entitled, a company devoted to making it simple to recover refunds for overpaid property tax and benefit from future savings.

Chicago, IL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/25/2017 -- According to Entitled President Matt Myjak, hardworking homeowners often have difficulty identifying exemptions they qualify for, determining if they received exemptions, and understanding how to correct those that were missed. He recently announced, "Many homeowners who investigate missed exemptions and attempt to correct them don't complete the process."

Property tax exemptions certainly exist to make homeownership easier, but they are commonly missed and complicated to correct. That's what inspired the launch of Entitled, a company using technology to streamline the exemption review process.

The county may not have the resources to inform homeowners of missed exemptions and offer them the level of customer service they deserve. That's where Entitled comes in. "Entitled removes barriers to exemption claims by leveraging its proprietary technology and risk-free pricing model," said Myjak. "With Entitled's service, busy homeowners don't have to waste valuable time gaining an understanding of exemptions and navigating the correction process."

By completing a web form at EntitledRefunds.com, homeowners can easily discover overlooked exemptions or gain peace of mind knowing they didn't miss out. If a homeowner is owed a refund, they receive an email with clear instructions, access to a secure online portal and their expected refund amount.

Entitled's online process takes less than five minutes of a homeowner's time, making the filing process quick and easy with clear instructions, prepopulated forms, and electronic signatures. Once the customer submits basic information, Entitled completes the filing process. "The homeowner can then monitor the progress of their refund in the online portal," said Myjak. "They also receive a series of email updates at key moments throughout the refund process."

If customers wish to avoid completing the process online, Entitled makes it simple to correct exemptions by mail. "We cater to homeowner needs. Our goal is to make confirming and correcting exemptions hassle-free any way possible," Myjak said. "Every step of the way, we're available to clarify information and answer questions."

Entitled's service is risk-free. If no refund is due, there's zero cost and the homeowner gains satisfaction in knowing that they didn't miss out. However, if exemptions are corrected, participating homeowners can receive property tax refunds worth hundreds to thousands of dollars.

A great value for the efficiencies offered, Entitled charges only ten percent of the refund received. This is in stark contrast to most property tax professionals who charge much higher percentages for future savings. "In practice, a large upfront cost makes it difficult for many homeowners to afford a professional property tax service," Myjak said. "Our model, only charging if and after a refund is received, guarantees satisfaction for homeowners and makes our service accessible to everyone."

Entitled's customer friendly process and accessible fee reflects their commitment to making homeownership easier.

Entitled Launches to Recoup Property Taxes for Cook County Homeowners

“Overpaid property taxes abound in Cook County,” said Matt Myjak, president of Entitled, a newly launched financial services company that leverages technology to make it easy for qualifying homeowners to receive refunds for hidden exemptions.

Chicago, IL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/08/2017 -- Entitled gives new meaning to the term "found money." The Chicago-based company, which launched today, provides homeowners with a risk-free mechanism to recoup property taxes. "We leverage technology to quickly discover and correct overlooked property tax exemptions that pay significant refunds," said Entitled President and Co-Founder Matt Myjak.

According to Myjak, homeowners unwittingly assume that property tax amounts billed by the county and paid through escrow are correct. "Since homeowners don't know the exemptions to which they're entitled, they are routinely overbilled by the county assessor," he said. "As a result, they end up paying more than necessary in property taxes."

Most tax professionals only focus on property tax appeals, but exemptions are a separate opportunity for savings. That's the gap the newly launched Entitled is designed to fill. "We specialize in unearthing and fixing missed exemptions for the prior three years," said Myjak. "Because we focus on exemptions, we're able to see an outcome rather quickly."

"We're changing the property tax service game and delivering money into the hands of homeowners," said Myjak. "Property tax appeal companies typically require an upfront payment for future savings," he said. "Our model of only charging if and after a refund is received makes Entitled accessible to all homeowners."

The company's combination of advanced knowledge, state-of-the-art technology, and dedication to service offers a trifecta of value to Entitled's customers. The company collects no upfront fees, and in fact, doesn't charge customers a dime unless they're able to recover money. Then, Entitled charges just 10 percent of the refunded amount.

A homeowner begins the Entitled process by completing a short online form. Entitled then determines whether or not property tax exemptions were received in each of the previous three years. If not, the company makes it simple to file for missed exemptions, which can result in refunds that total thousands of dollars. An added benefit is that correcting property tax exemptions typically results in future savings for homeowners.

"Our favorite part about Entitled's service is we can guarantee satisfaction to every homeowner," Myjak said. "If no refund is received, the homeowner pays nothing and gains the knowledge that their property tax was fairly paid."
