RME Rolls out Babyface Pro Podcasting Bundle Designed to Improve Podcasters' Audio Setups

The all-in-one solution includes the company’s Babyface Pro interface with TotalMix FX software, an Audio-Technica mic and more

Fort Lauderdale, FL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/03/2019 -- Premium German interface manufacturer RME, [InfoComm 2019 booth 5150], has announced an all-in-one audio bundle for professional podcasters looking to take their setups to the next level at an affordable price. Available now, with other configurations rolling out soon, the new Babyface Pro/Audio-Technica Podcast Bundle offers discriminating podcasters broadcast-quality sound and ultimate flexibility by combining RME's intuitive Babyface Pro audio interface and TotalMix FX mixing software with Audio-Technica's BP40 Condenser Microphone.

"Podcasting is big business with about 78 million people in the US regularly listening to one podcast per month," said Derek Badala, Director of Sales for Synthax, RME's US distributor. "It was high time someone offered the podcasters creating this content an affordable and professional audio setup that takes their show to the next level."

During the recent podcasting boom, more and more content creators have turned to RME's Babyface Pro interface while podcasting for its dramatically improved sound and its ability to mix multiple guests easily with no system crashes.

"Additionally, using RME's TotalMix FX software which comes with all RME interfaces, eliminates the need for additional equipment, saving podcasters hundreds on mixers, cables adapters and software," Badala said. "We decided to take our offerings one step further and provide podcasters with an all-in-one kit. By partnering with Audio-Technica, On-Stage Stands and the Podcasting Engineering School, we have created a complete, simple and reliable bundle that combines a professional audio interface, education on how to use, software and a microphone that will help podcasters 'future-proof' their setups."

Breaking Down the Bundle
At the heart of the bundle is RME's Babyface Pro, a "reference-quality" interface with multiple ins/outs allowing for any combination of podcast setups. With two high-precision mic preamps, two headphone outputs for simple host/guest monitoring and the ability to configure a "mix-minus" setup as separate audio sources, the Babyface Pro is the ultimate audio interface for podcasters. The Babyface Pro also allows for independent adjustment of sound settings for every source, individual headphone mixes for up to 6 guests and is compatible with any recording software as well as Mac, Windows and iOS.

As with all RME interfaces, the Babyface Pro comes complete with the free TotalMix FX Remote iPad app which as previously mentioned allows users to configure the "mix-minus" setup as separate audio sources. This allows podcasters to control what guests and listeners hear with no additional cables, mixer or hardware. Users can also mix multiple software applications simultaneously for adding music beds, sound effects and other audio clips to a podcast.

Taking a podcaster's sound quality to the next level, RME has partnered with Audio-Technica to include the company's BP40 Condenser Microphone. Optimized for broadcast applications, the A-T BP40 offers a rich, natural sound and the humbucking voice coil prevents unwanted interference. An On-Stage Clamp Desktop Boom Mic Stand is included, leaving a slim and simple look that saves on space. A professional 10-foot microphone cable is also included.

The final piece of the bundle is a Podcast Engineering School Educational Course (a $595 value). This online course provides an overview of the podcast production workflow using a Babyface Pro. The course covers setting up a Babyface Pro, production scenarios and tips, recording online guests, and post-production tips.

With a total value of $2,867, the Babyface Pro/Audio-Technica Podcast Bundle is available now for only $1,299. Offer valid in US only.

Synthax’s latest addition offers a variety of high-quality networking solutions

Fort Lauderdale, FL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 06/03/2019 -- Synthax [InfoComm 2019 booth 5150], distributor of premium German interface manufacturer RME, German converter manufacturer Ferrofish and personal monitor mixer myMix, has announced at that it now distributing Switzerland-based Appsys Pro Audio to the U.S., Canada and Latin America, effective immediately. Synthax will highlight Appsys products at its booth 5150 during InfoComm 2019 from June 12–14, 2019, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

Designed in Switzerland and manufactured in Germany, Appsys is known for creating and developing professional audio equipment in close collaboration with its customers to meet their specific needs. The company manufacturers a range of ADAT products, including extenders, splitters and repeaters as well as digital format converters including its popular Multiverter MVR-64.
"With its innovative audio networking solutions and its high build quality, Appsys products will continue Synthax's mission as masters of networking. We are proud and excited bring Appsys products to a wide network of users in the U.S. and Canada."

Swiss Army Knife: The Multiverter MVR-64
At this month's InfoComm, Synthax will highlight one of Appsys most popular products, its Multiverter MVR-64 digital format converter. Dubbed the any-to-any converter, the Multiverter lets users interface their gear to any signal source with the ability to convert between a wide selection of digital interfaces all at once. The Multiverter supports a stunning 64 channels of conversion for ADAT, MADI optical, MADI coaxial, MADI-TP, AES50, Dante/AES67, and is extensible to future interfaces via break-out boxes.

Users also have remote control over MIDI, MIDI over MADI, USB, RS485, AES50 Aux Data channel and network socket. The MVR-64 boasts 12 store and recall presets, a headphone amp which allows users to monitor any incoming signal as well as a test tone generator which simplifies troubleshooting when it comes to complex setups.

Appsys also offers a Sample Rate Converter Hardware Module to accompany the MVR-64, allowing users to add even more power to their Multiverter. The module features 64x64 channel asynchronous, bi-directional conversion between two arbitrary sample rates and interfaces.

A Variety of Applications
The Multiverter is a perfect solution for a wide variety of applications. Touring bands can use the Multiverter in their rack with their standard I/O knowing that when playing live, they'll be able to connect to any front of house or monitor console. Broadcast trucks can use the Multiverter to receive a MADI feed from the live event and convert it to Dante while recording via a Dante virtual sound card. In post-production or recording studio applications, the Multiverter can be used to bring all digital audio together by integrating a client's gear with a studio's existing setup.

For peace of mind, the Multiverter MVR-64 comes complete with a triple-redundant power supply and can be powered with industry-standard 4-pin XLR plug battery packs.

The Multiverter MVR-64 is available now and priced at $2,999 MAP.

Living Sound Selects RME's Fireface UFX+ for Its Direct USB Recording Capabilities for the Sacramento Choral Society & Orchestra

The live sound and mobile recording company upgraded to the UFX+ for RME’s Direct USB Recording technology and high-channel count I/O

Sacramento, CA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/21/2019 -- Stephen Bingen has recorded every performance of the Sacramento Choral Society & Orchestra (SCSO) for nearly 15 years as the owner of Sacramento-based Living Sound, a live sound reinforcement and location recording company. But near the end of last year, when it came time to record the holiday performance of the 150-voice SCSO for an upcoming CD release, Bingen and Living Sound's Head Engineer John Bologni were looking to upgrade their audio interface and turned to RME's Fireface UFX+ for its added inputs and its improved Direct USB recorder. An avid user of the UFX since his college days at University of California, Davis, Bologni has found the direct recorder function to be a total game changer.

"The feature that has been absolutely indispensable to me — previously with the UFX, and now with the UFX+ — is the direct recorder," Bologni said. The Fireface UFX+ Direct USB Recording (DURec) lets users record up to 76 channels simultaneously, which allowed Bologni to record all 60 channels of I/O to a USB flash drive as a multitrack WAV file during the recent concert recording of the SCSO.

"The weakest link is our recording software," he continued. "If our DAW freezes for any reason, or the computer freezes, or someone trips and knocks over the laptop, knowing the direct recorder is still going is a huge stress reliever."

Bingen mentioned that direct recorder has saved them on more than one occasion.

"As soon as it was time to upgrade, I looked at every single interface out there, regardless of price point," Bingen said. "As somebody who does live recordings, I'm not going to carry two laptops around to every gig — and even then you would still have a single point of failure. So, in addition to all the other features on the UFX+, the Direct USB Recorder sealed the deal, hands down."

Channel Count, Counts
Bologni and Bingen both cite the high-channel count as another major selling point for the UFX+ — which includes MADI optical I/O, in addition to ADAT, analog and AES — in part because it lets them connect more external preamps when recording live concerts. "There have been occasions where we've had ribbon mics going over a long cable run," Bingen said, "The UFX+ gives us the flexibility to put an analog preamp closer to those ribbon mics and give the signal a boost in gain before it travels all that distance and picks up a bunch of noise, which is another plus.

Bingen also points to the improved dynamic range of the converters and redesigned built-in preamps, which have helped them to get the levels right as quickly as possible before recording the previous SCSO performance. "A lot of times we're sitting through a long dress rehearsal, and we are just trying to get good levels for the recording," he said, "because, if one of our channels peaks in the middle of the concert, we can't stop and ask them to start the take over. We have to get the first take right. The auto-gain feature on the built-in UFX+ preamps drops the gain down so that you have headroom, and it's a really cool feature to use during a long dress rehearsal, without having to constantly adjust knobs."

TotalMix FX: Mixing Made Easy
Used in tandem with the Fireface UFX+, RME's TotalMix FX software gives Living Sound the ability to provide separate monitor mixes tapped straight from the recording in progress — not only for the performers, but to the head engineer, to the conductor and the lobby feed.

"RME's TotalMix FX software is the best interface software I've ever used," Bologni said. "The best thing about it is, when you're sending a signal directly out to the monitors, it's pretty much zero latency. So, the performers and the conductor don't have any latency in their monitor mixes — which is monumental when you're talking about someone with ears as good as Dr. Kendrick."

Bingen also adds that having a second headphone jack that allows for a separate mix has also been a useful teaching tool for music students, who — like Bologni did when he was a music student at UC Davis — take an interest in the audio engineering side of recording. "We get asked by a lot of kids who are aspiring recording engineers to come shadow us," he said. "Being able to plug in a second set of headphones and having separate mixes — without having to carry around headphone splitter — has been really great in that situation."

Sound Engineer Brandon Blackwell Simplifies Touring Setup Thanks to Ferrofish A32 Converter

The owner of Blackwell Productions routes all of his analog pieces into a single MADI stream using the A32

South Orange, NJ -- (ReleaseWire) -- 01/02/2019 -- Since 2012, Brandon Blackwell, owner of Blackwell Productions, LLC, has been putting his audio production expertise to work in a number of ways, from serving as FOH and monitor engineer for big-name acts like pop star Camila Cabello to providing support services for a wide range of venues, including TV specials, theatrical events, seminars and conferences.

Based in South Orange, New Jersey, but working throughout the globe, Blackwell was in need of a way to convert his entire arsenal of analog outboard gear into multichannel audio digital interface (MADI) format for control at a DiGiCo console — which requires MADI — when mixing FOH or monitors. Last summer, he purchased a Ferrofish A32 AD/DA MADI and ADAT converter at the advice of a colleague, and Blackwell said it's helped simplify his setup dramatically by being able to route all of his analog pieces into a single MADI stream.

"I'm into using outboard gear, but I have to have a piece of technology that gets it all into my console," Blackwell said. "With the A32, I can insert my gear into a single MADI stream. And, I have to say, the A32's AD/DA conversion is the best I've heard."

With a major pop tour on his schedule for next summer, Blackwell has been bringing his Ferrofish A32 to all of his gigs. And since he can get all of his AD/DA and MADI conversion out of a single rack unit, he can fit it in his luggage when he travels to one-off gigs.

"Being a one-rack unit, it hardly takes up any space," Blackwell said. "So, I can just throw it in my suitcase and pack clothes around it."

In conjunction with its transparent conversion and optimal size, Blackwell said that the A32's dual-power supply makes the unit an essential piece of gear he can rely on for any gig.

"Having redundancy is very important especially during a live show, because you only get one chance to get it right," Blackwell said. "Consistency is key to success, so it is nice that I can carry the same audio converter from gig to gig."

Saving Space & Money
In addition to simplifying his setup, Blackwell has found the Ferrofish A32 saves him much-need rack space which can be in high demand while out on tour.

"A tour I'm going to do next summer calls for some additional pieces of outboard gear," Blackwell said. "As I continued to look for more outboard pieces for my own setup, potentially getting up to 32 channels into my desk, I would need a 10-stage rack from DiGiCo. The A32 saves space and, more importantly, saves money. As audio professionals, we want all the flashy toys, but if we can get rid of gear to save on the audio budget, we will."

Ultra I/O Reliability: RME MADIface USB, TotalMix FX Helps Power Bjork's European 'Utopia Tour'

The tour’s front of house engineer John Gale and musical director Matt Robertson turn to the 128-channel MADI interface and RME’s TotalMix software for ease and rock-solid reliability during all 11 show dates

Fort Lauderdale, FL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/27/2018 -- Icelandic pop singer-songwriter Bjork kicked off her latest European tour, dubbed the Utopia Tour, with back-to-back dates in her in hometown of Reykjavik as well as stops at major festivals, including All Point's East in London and Primavera Sound in Barcelona.

During the 11-show tour, front of house engineer John Gale of Galeforce Sound employed two RME MADIface USB, compact, 128-channel interfaces which provide MADI I/O over USB 2.0. Gale used the main and spare IO into dual ProTools rigs for the live vocal and flute effects which were dealt with in timecoded ProTools sessions running specific plugins.

"The RME MADIface USB has been rock solid," Gale said. "The key thing for me is the MADIface's solid drivers and physical reliability. RME products have always sounded fantastic, but their reliability is what sets them ahead of the rest."

Low Latency is Key
In addition to the MADIface's reliability, the interface's low latency is also critical for Gale. Due to the nature of the live performances, Gale said it's particularly important to employ a unit that features a low enough latency that he can pass the audio in and out of ProTools quickly without any audible pops, glitches or perceived delays.

"We experimented with the buffer sizes to find a low setting that was rock solid," explained Gale. "I'm using the MADIface in this situation for the vocal effects, like reverb and delays, on Bjork's vocal microphone and also the live effects on the flute ensemble. I'm also sending these effects back to Bjork's monitor engineer so it has to be as low latency as possible as she's monitoring this on stage."

Dynamic Duo: TotalMix & RME
RME's TotalMix software enables unlimited routing and mixing to the company's audio interfaces — an invaluable resource for Gale and musical director Matt Robertson during rehearsals and pre-show setup checks.

"The musicians on stage have TotalMix setups too, so that they can listen to their own mixed outputs, without having to have the monitor engineer switch to a particular scene or snapshot," Robertson said. "There is also some very clever stuff you can do with TotalMix to route timecodes to various outputs and even back into the same device which can sometime be really useful. If you need a duplicate timecode output on 36, it's easy to route it in TotalMix without having to make any changes to your playback session."

Longtime Brand Loyalty
Gale purchased his first MADIface in 2008 and since then has used the interface on hundreds of tours as well as tracked live albums for artists that have then gone onto commercial release and used it for countless virtual sound-checks.

"RME products are so reliable it took me until this year to finally retire the HDSPe MADIface I purchased nearly 10 years ago only because I changed my computer," Gale said. "I swear by them."

Gale has used other MADI-based recording devices from other manufacturers, but often found himself up against issues such as the inability to receive a certain BNC MADI stream, yet his RME MADIface would read the same MADI stream with no trouble.

"Additionally, the drivers are so solid. I've used other products where I've had to keep reinstalling the drivers every few days, but with the MADIface I can't remember ever having an issue," Gale said. "They simply work and that, to me, is the most important thing — solid reliability and confidence that, come show time, it will work every time."

Integration on Your Terms: Synthax to Showcase New RME Digiface Dante, Digiface AVB at InfoComm 2018

As Digiface series of mobile audio interfaces expands, RME offers greater connectivity options for integrators and end-users

Las Vegas, NV -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/29/2018 -- Synthax [InfoComm 2018 booth C1619], distributor of premium German interface manufacturer RME, will showcase its latest solutions designed to help users integrate on any network during InfoComm 2018 from June 6–8, 2018, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

During the exhibition, RME will highlight its newest additions to the Digiface series of mobile audio interfaces — the Digiface Dante and Digiface AVB, which meet the current demands of today's users looking to distribute audio over a local area network.

"These new introductions fill the needs of today's professionals while building on the backbone of RME's stable and proprietary driver designs, which provide ultra-low latency through the Dante network using our leading TotalMix monitoring and routing software," said Derek Badala, Director of Sales, Americas for Synthax, distributor of RME. "We as a company are staying on the forefront to connect audio engineers to the next generation of audio distribution standards."

Digiface Mobile Dante Solution

The new Digiface Dante is a 256-channel, 192 kHz USB audio interface that combines a lightweight design with Dante network connectivity, while supporting AES67. The BNC connections provide Word Clock I/O and can be switched to work with MADI, allowing for MADI and Dante to be used simultaneously, and enabling the unit to work as a simple bidirectional format converter in standalone mode.

The Digiface Dante uses RME's established USB driver for Windows and macOS with the lowest latency and industry-leading stability and is also equipped with RME's powerful, digital real-time mixer TotalMix FX software. The new device provides the user with the benefit of RME's driver technology at zero-latency monitoring, low-latency performance in and out of the Dante networking during recording or playback.

Moving the Dial with AVB

The new Digiface AVB meets the growing need in the AV industry to distribute audio over a local area network. The Digiface AVB USB audio interface uses AVB to transfer up to 256 channels of audio between PC and audio networks.

The integrated USB 3.0 connection allows up to 128 audio channels to be streamed back to the AVB network and another 128 channels to the computer — with sampling rates of up to 192 kHz. Users can adjust the channel sizes of streams between 2 and 32 channels as needed to ensure maximum compatibility with AVB audio devices available on the market.

The RME Digiface Dante and the Digiface AVB are available now and priced at $1,499 and $999 MAP respectively.

Check out the new Digiface Dante and Digiface AVB at Synthax booth C1619 during InfoComm Las Vegas, June 6–8.

myMix to Host Session on Overcoming Monitoring Problems at Tribe Church Tech Team Development Summit

In-Ear Monitors, When Combined with myMix Personal Monitoring Systems, Can Result in a More Natural Experience for Performers — and Better Performances

Dallas, TX -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/30/2018 -- myMix, the personal monitor mixing and recording system ideal for on-stage performances and installed applications, will exhibit at Church Production Live! Events' Tribe Church Tech Team Development Summit in Dallas at Valley Creek Church's Flower Mound Campus on May 7–8. The two-day tech event digs into the tech arts ministry and features 25 sessions, 18 guest speakers, peer networking and product demonstrations.

During the event, Mathias von Heydekampf, managing director of myMix, will host a technology session titled "Understanding & Overcoming the Psycho-Acoustic Effects of Using In-Ear Monitoring Solutions." The session will teach listeners the dynamics of listening with IEMs and explain how a qualified personal monitoring system can help overcome issues when transferring to IEMs by creating a 3D, natural sound experience. Participants will be given the opportunity to create their own 3D sound and compare for themselves.

"There are so many benefits to using in-ear monitoring systems, if used correctly," said von Heydekampf. "These in ear devices are known to improve overall sound quality by dramatically reducing stage noise. But when switching over to IEMs for the first time, most musicians complain about poor audio or unfamiliar isolated sound. We are excited to demonstrate how our myMix system can make personal monitoring experience seamless and conducive to better experience for both the performer and the audience.

Personal monitoring comes of age

myMix boasts intuitive, easy-to-operate functionality — allowing users to effortlessly create an unlimited number of independent stereo mixes with up to 16 channels of audio controlled through an easy-to-operate interface. Unlike other interfaces on the market, the myMix features only one knob, making it simple for anyone to be mixing and recording within minutes.

With a press of the 'Record' button the selected audio channels get recorded in multi-track as 24-bit, 48kHz broadcast wav files. In 'Play Along' mode, the two local inputs can be mixed with the recorded tracks — ideal for practices and rehearsals.

"myMix has been used in churches across the country — as well as the world — delivering the ultimate monitoring performance while providing extreme flexibility and crystal-clear audio," said von Heydekampf. "The system is affordable, expandable and sets up in minutes making it an obvious choice for churches of all sizes. Most importantly, it can improve congregants worship experience."

Universally Connected

Furthering its flexibility, the myMix features local network inputs allowing the unit to be operated either self-contained or integrated with any analog or digital mixing console. The local myMix inputs are full networking inputs enabling any signal connected to a myMix to also be available on the network for all others.

First Baptist Church of Everett Deploys in-Ear Monitoring System, myMix to Alleviate Acoustical Challenges

In-ear monitors and the myMix personal monitoring system provide the church with lower SPL, crystal clear audio and unlimited flexibility

Everett, WA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/27/2018 -- When First Baptist Church of Everett in Everett, Washington, was built in the late 1960s, the main sanctuary was designed as a giant hall — allowing a speaker to preach from the pulpit and be heard clearly in the back of the sanctuary without any amplification. While this was a common design at the time, the removal of the pulpit and the introduction of floor monitors caused the sanctuary to become an acoustical nightmare.

"The sanctuary was basically a giant echo chamber," said Andy Finseth, First Baptist of Everett's lead audio engineer. "Using floor monitors in the room was a significant challenge with the additional sound and the echo bouncing off the back wall and traveling all the way through the room. This forced us to run our mains much louder, and, as a result, a lot of times we would easily get volume complaints especially from some of our senior members."

Today, First Baptist Church holds two contemporary services each Sunday that draw some 400 parishioners each week. A switch to in-ear monitors has made all the difference during these services.

"Every week we monitor our Sound Pressure Levels (SPL)," Finseth explained. "With the floor monitors, we were regularly running around 95 decibels on average, and it was still fairly muddy sound."

After redesigning the Church's system himself, Finseth made the switch to in-ear monitors in 2005. The switch to IEMs helped lower the stage volume — along with the addition of properly aligned mains which narrowed the field of throw keeping the sound from bouncing off the sanctuary walls — bringing down the Church's average SPL to around 85 decibels.

"The in-ear monitors provide a very pleasant sound no matter what kind of music the worship band is playing," Finseth said. "If they are going from jazz to rock to a hymn — we get clear sound no matter what, and we don't get any complaints about volume anymore."

myMix: Flexibility is Key

In 2010, Finseth was searching for a new in-ear monitoring system for the worship band and tested out myMix during a summer street festival. The ability to put each member of the band onto the myMix network and allow them to individually select what mix they wanted to listen to won over Finseth and the worship band on the personal monitoring and mixing system.

"The flexibility of the inputs is really what sold us on the myMIx," Finseth said. "If the vocalists want, they can listen to each vocalist individually, but maybe the drummer doesn't want to listen to all the vocalists individually, he wants to listen to just the worship leader — myMix allows you to do this. It offers this unique flexibility that is second to none."

Currently First Baptist Church has 14 myMix units but employs around 10 during each service. Finseth sets up 2 myMixes for guitar, 2 for drums — one that is running the drum mix and one that the drummer uses as their monitor system, 1 at keyboard, 1 at piano, 1 at bass and a few extra for vocalists or additional guitarists.

"The myMix is a great system," Finseth said. "While any in-ear monitor system would have helped improve the sound in our sanctuary, the myMix system is the best system I've tried out. It offers the most flexibility and is just an all-round solid platform."

myMix's Versatility Makes Both Rehearsals and Worship Services a 'Breeze' at SoCal Christian Church

The easy-to-operate personal monitoring system helps both rehearsal and worship services run smoothly and efficiently at Seabreeze Church

Huntington Beach, CA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 03/30/2018 -- When Seabreeze Church in Huntington Beach, California, needed a personal monitoring solution to power its contemporary worship band, Worship Director Lance Unrau turned to the myMix personal monitor mixing and recording system for not only for quality audio and easy operation during its three Sunday morning worship services, but also for its ability to make rehearsals simpler.

Unrau and his fellow band mates play on average five Christian Rock-style songs during each of the services that see a total of 750 attendees each week. As a result, Unrau and his team find rehearsals to be integral part of their band's sound.

"The myMix saves us so much time during our rehearsals," Unrau said. "There's less coordinating with the AV booth and us, and we can even rehearse without even having to turn the house speakers on. We just power up the myMixes and practice through them. It's been so helpful for us to not have to rely on the booth for rehearsing, and that has increased our productivity overall."
Also aiding in rehearsals is myMix's pristine audio output, something that Unrau said as a vocalist has helped improve not only his own sound, but also the entire sound of the band.

"The myMix is very unforgiving — which is a very good and helpful thing," he said. "As you are singing the sound is literally right in front of you. As a result of this, I think it's improved my vocals personally and has helped the whole band blend together. Using the myMix, we are better able to focus on our individual parts because we can hear our parts more clearly."

Additionally, Unrau said the myMix's clear audio playback has given the Church's sound engineers a stronger control of the audio, improving the overall sound in Seabreeze Church's auditorium.

"If you are running a bunch of floor monitors that really takes control, especially in the first few rows of the auditorium," Unrau said. "With the myMix, our sound guys now have better control which has really improved the complete sound experience in the auditorium."

Easy-Breezy Setup

As a worship band made up of mostly volunteers, Unrau finds the myMix's intuitiveness helpful when instructing a new player on the system.

"I don't think anyone in our band has ever had much experience with monitoring, but it was pretty easy to get everyone on board and up and running because it's so easy," Unrau said. "Even the backend features such as adding effects are intuitive. I usually only have to show someone once or twice, and they are good to go."

Ferrofish A32 Converter Is a Star Behind the Stage During Live Grammy Performances

Sonic transparency and compact size make conversion easy during live performances ?at the 60th annual award ceremony

Fort Lauderdale, FL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/27/2018 -- Held on January 28th on major network television, the 60th annual Grammy Awards reached nearly 20 million viewers around the world. The Ferrofish A32 AD/DA digital converter played a key role in the success of the evening's multiple live performances, which included high profile artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Gary Clark, Jr., Lady Gaga, Kesha and the night's big winner Bruno Mars.

Grammy Digital Source Mixer Anthony Lalumia selected the Ferrofish A32 primarily for its reliability. Lalumia fed the A32 from his ProTools interfaces via a MADI auto-switcher. The A32 was fed coaxial and optical MADI streams (for redundancy), and the unit's analog output was split to five consoles with five different engineers mixing at different positions in the show.

"The A32 is the final step in the chain which means it's constantly passing audio," said Lalumia, who has also worked on similar live award shows including MTV's Video Music Awards. "With so much going on, it's something I shouldn't have to think about. I just need it to work 10 times out of 10."

"During the Grammys, the A32 was seamless," he continued. "Reliability is a huge factor for me, and I knew I could rely on my A32 converter."

Balancing Multiple Backing Tracks

With nearly 20 live performances to manage during this year's Grammys, Lalumia was responsible for compiling the musical acts' individual tracks so they could be played back from a single system as opposed to each act bringing their own systems.

"A lot of the work is on the front end because we're having to compile all of that and be in communication with many different people. New files are coming in through rehearsals and it's our job to put them together and be sure they are the correct format for the show," Lalumia said. "It's a high-pressure job so I need my rigs to be fully redundant. Since the A32 is ultimately the last point before all the tracks are sent out, it's a pretty critical piece that has to sound totally transparent for me — and the A32 delivers each time."

A show of such caliber and structure requires the ultimate in audio transparency. And with nearly half of this year's Grammy performances coming in the form of collaborations, seamless AD/DA conversion was crucial.

"We are dealing with on-air performances and backing tracks that we are getting from many different sources," Lalumia explained. "The A32's AD/DA conversion is really transparent. Literally what I play out of my systems into that machine is exactly what comes out. There is no coloration whatsoever, and that's a huge deal for me."

1U Rack Space Wonder

For live shows like the Grammys, space is at premium. Lalumia, who has been working as a ProTools engineer over a decade, said Ferrofish A32's 1U rack mountable size was the perfect option for the Grammys where equipment logistics was a big factor.

"Having 32 inputs or outputs with conversion to MADI or any format I need in a single-rack space is big plus," Lalumia said. "I didn't have a lot of space in my world during the Grammys, so to have a really small form factor in my systems was a huge selling point for me."

Being able to control the unit from the front panel added to the A32's ease of use for Lalumia when setting up the unit and setting input and output gains quickly.

"The Ferrofish A32's visual feedback of all the inputs and outputs is more in depth than any other converter on the market," Lalumia said. "Being able to monitor directly from the face of the unit gives me the confidence that the outputs are going to the correct places."

Packing Both Power & Confidence

The Ferrofish A32 offers a dual-power supply, which, for an engineer like Lalumia working on a live broadcast, is critical for redundancy.

"I'll typically power one of the power supplies off a UPS battery back up and the second one from separate AC power," Lalumia said. "The dual supply on the A32 gives you the confidence that even if the UPS fails, you'll have that second power supply plugged into AC power which is paramount."

myMix Releases myMix II — The Ultimate Flexible Monitoring Device for Musicians

The easy-to-operate personal monitoring systems’ v2 studio modification ensures ultra-quiet performance and features Dante connectivity

Fort Lauderdale, FL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 01/30/2018 -- myMix, the personal monitor mixing and recording system, has introduced its myMix II. In addition to the same best-in-class features as its predecessor, new modifications to the myMix II ensure ultra-quiet performance — making it ideal for both studio and live sound applications. The myMix II also features new Dante capability, offering connectivity via any format — Dante, MADI, ADAT, analog — and works seamlessly with any digital console currently on the market.

These new features, combined with its built-in recording features and massive channel count capability, set the myMix II apart as the the most versatile and best-in-class stage monitoring solution for musicians.

"The myMix II brings to the table all the great features musicians, engineers and mixers know and love about the original myMix system, plus the added features of ultra-quiet performance and industry-standard Dante connectivity," said Mathias von Heydekampf, managing director of Synthax, distributor of myMix. "Now more than ever before, myMix delivers the ultimate monitoring performance both on stage or in the studio. It's affordable, expandable and works with any console on the market, making it the most obvious choice in any personal monitoring application."

Plug-and-Play Capability

myMix boasts intuitive, easy-to-operate functionality — allowing users to effortlessly create an unlimited number of independent stereo mixes with up to 500 channels on the network. Each myMix can choose any of the 16 channels from the network and the audio is controlled through and easy-to-function interface. Unlike other interfaces on the market, the myMix features only one knob, making it simple for anyone to be performing, mixing and recording with ease.

With a single press of the 'Record' button the selected audio channels get recorded in multi-track as 24-bit, 48kHz broadcast wav files. These files can be used with any DAW software or played back and remixed (virtual sound check). In 'Play Along' mode, the two local inputs can be mixed with the recorded tracks — ideal for practices and rehearsals.

Universally Connected

Furthering its flexibility, the myMix features local network inputs allowing the unit to be operated either self-contained or integrated with any analog or digital mixing console. The local myMix inputs are full networking inputs enabling any signal connected to a myMix to also be available on the network for all others.

RME Presents ADI-2 DAC: A 2-Channel DA Converter for Studio Professionals and HiFi Enthusiasts

Fort Lauderdale, FL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 12/26/2017 -- RME Audio, a German manufacturer of digital audio solutions for the professional and HiFi sector, presents the ADI-2 DAC, a two-channel high-end digital/analog converter in a 9.5"/1HE housing. With its outstanding audio quality and wide range of conversion options it is targeted at studio professionals and audiophiles.

Using the latest 32 bit/768 kHz reference converter, RME SteadyClock technology for excellent jitter suppression and a powerful DSP processor, the ADI-2 DAC offers zero-compromise conversion and playback of digital signals into the analog world. The DA converter features two high-performance headphone outputs, including a dedicated in-ear connection.

The ADI-2 DAC is a further development of the renowned ADI-2 Pro AD/DA reference converter. Its input options include a coaxial SPDIF connection, an optical SPDIF/ADAT connection and a USB2 port. After DA-conversion the analog signals are available at the stereo XLR and stereo RCA outputs, or at the TRS standard and mini jack outputs of the headphone amp.

Headphone amp with IEM output

The powerful and sophisticated headphone section is suitable for connecting high-impedance studio and HiFi headphones through an Extreme Power output, and modern high-quality in-ear systems. These generally have particularly high sensitivity, revealing the intrinsic noise of an amplifer stage in an unpleasant way. But the ADI-2 DAC's superb signal-to-noise ratio of up to 120 dBA and extremely low distortion meets the needs of even the most demanding studio professional or audiophile enthusiast.

In addition to its excellent sound quality, the ADI-2 DAC provides impressive internal signal processing options thanks to a powerful DSP processor. Among other features, it offers 5-band parametric EQ, user-friendly bass/treble adjustment, Crossfeed playback and an innovative loudness control for the analog stereo outputs.

DA converter & audio interface

The ADI-2 DAC has flexible digital and analog ports. To make it even more versatile the DA converter has a USB recording function for incoming SPDIF signals. The ADI-2 DAC can therefore work as ideal two-channel USB audio interface, capable of recording at sample rates up to 192 kHz and playing back up to 768 kHz, both PCM and DSD signals.

Informative & Flexible display

To ensure that users have quick and intuitive access to the wide variety of I/O options and processing functions the ADI-2 DAC has an ergonomic user interface and high-resolution IPS display where users can access such tools as the internal analyzer based on the famous Spectral Analyzer from the DIGICheck analysis tool. The display's background and label colors can be inverted for sensitive eyes or environments. Even less obtrusive is the "AutoDark Mode", which will automatically switch off the display and all the LEDs after ten seconds.

Convenient remote control

The supplied remote control makes using the DA-converter even more convenient. Various functions are available, including volume up/down, playback source selector and equalizer on/off. In all there are 20 different functions which can be assigned to four additional, freely programmable buttons.

56 myMix Units Deliver Flawless Monitoring for Orchestra as British DJ Pete Tong Performs at Hollywood Bowl

Dozens of myMix systems deliver eighty channels of mixes on-stage to orchestral performers

Hollywood, CA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 11/30/2017 -- As British DJ Pete Tong performed his Ibiza Classics tour at Hollywood Bowl on November 11th supported by the 56-piece Heritage Orchestra, no less than 56 myMix personal monitoring units graced the stage. The Sussex, England-based orchestra travels across the globe supporting a variety of contemporary artists. When looking for a monitoring solution for each member of the orchestra, Fred den Dulk of Netherlands-based Next Level Audio looked no further than the myMix Personal Monitor Mixer system, which enabled each performer to easily dial in their personal preferences.

Despite such a high profile venue and complex stage production, den Dulk was assured there would be a perfect result from the outset: "The system is so easy to use and it always works," he observes. "We can always rely on myMix no matter how many musicians are playing — we know the system is going to work flawlessly every single time."

Mixes tailored to suit

Each orchestra group member was provided with a selection of inputs on the myMix system including a stereo mix, a vocal mix, a direct out of their own instrument, a click track, and a communication line for the conductor, monitor and front-of-house tech to communicate with orchestra members. All in all, a total of 80 channels were used on the myMix network for the Tong performance.

"Basically, the orchestra members had five channels that they could choose from, but the system is capable of mixing 16," den Dulk explained. "The primary reason we chose the myMix is because it would be easy for the musicians to operate and it works as advertised."

One-knob wonder

When working with a large group — such as the 56-piece Heritage Orchestra — complex monitoring systems can create unwanted issues, particularly if they are too complicated for performers to operate on stage. For this reason, the myMix interface features intuitive channel names, simple buttons and a single knob to eliminate confusion.

"Musicians are there to play their instruments," den Dulk observes. "Monitoring is a necessity, but should never be a concern to the performer. There are a lot of systems that have too many buttons and controls."

In the case of the Hollywood Bowl performance, most of the orchestra members had never used the system — so den Dulk provided a brief overview: "Ron the monitor engineer then sets a couple of basic levels so when the orchestra members put on their in-ears, they could immediately hear their own instrument in context."

Plug and play

Both the front of house engineer, Tom Gelissen, and monitor engineer, Ron Peeters, enjoyed using the myMix because it enables musicians to focus on the music and play their best. It also makes production set-up and sound check even easier: "The myMix system finds itself on the network — you can just plug it in anyway you like it and it will work," he said. "It's really an intuitive, plug-and-play system."

RME to the Rescue

During the performance, the system uses three 96 kHz, 32-channel MADI streams and that are converted into two 48 kHz, 64-channel MADI streams. Those streams were fed into two RME ADI 648 units and converted to ADAT. "There were 80 channels, and the RME 648 can convert 64 channels, so we had 64 channels from one RME unit in use and 16 from the second one in use," explained den Dulk.

We are big fans of RME, and the ADI-648 was exactly what the situation called for," he continued. "These units have unparalleled reliability and never let you down."

A Performance for the Books

Thanks to the simplicity of the myMix, den Dulk said the show at the Hollywood Bowl went off without a hitch — and the mix sounded great. "This show was very special because the Hollywood Bowl is such a beautiful place. There's tons of history in this venue, but at the end of the day, we put the same care into this show as we do all our shows, and we try to achieve the best result no matter where we are playing. The mix sounded fantastic, and it was a performance to remember."

RME ARC USB Remote Control Brings Interface Functionality to Your Fingertips

Powerful Desktop Remote Offers Precise Control of Fireface UFX+, Fireface UFX II and other devices via RME's TotalMixFX Routing & Mixing Software

Fort Lauderdale, FL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 10/31/2017 -- Premier German interface manufacturer RME has launched a powerful wired remote control for its Fireface UFX+, and Fireface UFX II, and all TotalMixFX compatible devices: the ARC USB. Sporting a desktop friendly enclosure and bus-powered USB connectivity, the ARC USB integrates easily into any studio environment, bringing key functionality like master and headphone volume control, mono, and snapshot selection right to users' fingertips. Set up for intuitive control of RME's interfaces and the company's acclaimed TotalMix FX routing and mixing software, its buttons and rotary wheel are fully programmable, allowing complete personalization to any given production environment.

"Integrating a desktop controller into your workflow brings the convenience and ergonomics of a analog studio console to digital recording, helping you focus on capturing and molding a great sound," says Mathias von Heydekampf, managing director of Synthax, distributor of RME. "The ARC USB helps users take advantage of our best-in-class interfaces such as the Fireface UFX+ and Fireface UFX II, while being backwards capatible with all RME interfaces dating back to 2001. The ARC USB — when combined with our TotalMixFX software, ushers in a new era of control and production possibilities for our users."

Hands-On Control

The ARC USB expands upon its predecessor the ARC MKI with a new control layout and vastly expanded controls — providing access to the most common functions within TotalMix FX and RME interfaces. Its sturdy construction features a robust, elegant metal case that matches the finish of the UFX+ and UFX II interfaces for a refined look.

A large rotary wheel is the centerpiece of the unit, set by default to control the output level. Above this are three rows of buttons: the first two rows enable selection of one of eight snapshots within TotalMix FX for easy navigation of input and output routing and submixes. The third row's controls allow the user to mono the main output, select between Headphone 1 and Headphone 2 volume control on the rotary wheel, and also select the external input, located on the side of the unit.

Below the rotary wheel are seated three additional buttons, allowing the user to engage the talkback microphone, switch to a second monitor pair, and dim the output. All controls can be assigned with TotalMix FX for the ultimate in customization. A sticker set for these functions is provided for a matching overlay.

The ARC USB's bus-powered USB 1.1 connector allows cable lengths of up to ten meters, sufficient to accommodate most existing studio rack configurations with a standard USB 2 cable. Integrated class compliancy allows driver-free operation on both Mac and PC for hassle-free setup.

Sound Synergy: First Baptist Concord Selects myMix for Its Universal Simplicity, Quality Sound

J Sound Services finds myMix portable recording interface/monitoring solution to be a simple, sonic match for Tennessee-based mega church

Fort Lauderdale, FL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 10/27/2017 -- myMix, a network-based audio mixing and recording system which features easy operation while meeting the highest audio demands, has been chosen by First Baptist Concord church as its recording interface thanks to its simplicity of operation and high quality sonic performance.

Nashville, Tennessee-based J Sound Services, the audio/visual company behind the installation, recently installed eight myMix units at the mega church's West Hills, Tennessee, location which holds two contemporary-style services every Sunday to a congregation of about 250 parishioners for each service. J Sound Services' CEO Jason Spence chose the portable recording interfaces for the church because of its no-hassle set up, comprehensive functionality and ease of operation.

"We have clients as young as their teens and as old as 60s using the myMix — especially in our house-of-worship installations," Spence explained. "We don't do a lot of training, but we'll do a brief introduction — but with myMix that's all anyone needs. Our clients are usually able to operate the system within minutes."

In addition to its ease of use and easy integration with any brand of console or system, the myMix's remarkable sound quality is what keeps Spence reaching for the system every time he does a house-of-worship installation.

"I haven't found another recording interface that sounds this good," he said. "Other products can be useful tools, but they're uninspiring to listen to and that absolutely affects how performances translate. The audience reception is directly reflected by how comfortable thge musicians are on stage. It finally becomes inspiring when musicians stop thinking about their monitors anymore, and myMix handily solves this challenge by delivering great sound quality."

Simplicity at the core
Luke Lasater, audio engineer at First Baptist Concord's West Hills location, said the church has been startled by the difference in sound quality. "As an engineer, I appreciate the high quality at which myMix delivers sound to the musicians," Lasater said. "I often receive comments from the musicians about how great their in-ear mixes sound using the myMix."

First Baptist Concord's setup features an IEX-16L-A fed via Toslink from a Yamaha CL3's ADAT MY Card. A combination of directs out and aux mixes make up the 16-channel input list for the eight myMix units. On any given week, the church will have up to eight musicians on stage using the myMixes. Most are hardwired to the headphone outputs on each unit, while the vocalists and worship leaders use the line-outs to feed to Shure PSM300 wireless IEM units in stereo.

"Since the devices are powered remotely from the network switch, a single-network cable to power the unit and pass audio means a clean stage and easy setup," Lasater explained. "The simple, but extremely effective user interface on the myMix is perfect for musicians who need to be focused on playing, not trying to mess with their in-ear mixes. We as engineers often forget that musicians are not engineers, and should not be subjected to systems that are difficult to learn or operate. The simple tools of level, pan, a great sounding tilt EQ and a single FX engine means there isn't anything for those on stage to have 'trouble' with. However, having the FX means a vocalist can add some verb on their voice to put it in a space and not be isolated in their ears, or a guitar player can use the tilt EQ to help balance other instruments to his. Even with the proliferation of personal mixers in the market, all of the musicians we have had come across our stage have raved about how simple the system is to use and how great it sounds."

Ferrofish's Dante Verto Converters Deliver Unprecedented Routing Flexibility and Extreme Simplicity for Multi-Channel Integrations

Dante-compatible devices accommodate digital ADAT and MADI formats in a compact form factor

Fort Lauderdale, FL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 09/19/2017 -- Ferrofish, German manufacturer of premium conversion solutions for the pro audio, broadcast and integration markets, announced that its Dante Verto Series is available now in three different varieties. The new Verto 32, Verto 64 and Verto MX deliver outstanding audio, while making the integration of digital ADAT and MADI audio formats into a Dante environment a seamless and intuitive experience.

Each of the new products feature generous I/O counts and unsurpassed routing flexiblity. The Verto 32 and Verto 64 offer ADAT, while the Verto MX supports both BNC and OPTICAL MADI and can easily be Single or Multimode MADI due to the use of an optional Single Mode MADI Module. All three devices provide word clock I/O for external synchronization and can be controlled remotely.

"The Ferrofish Verto Series is the ultimate tool for just about any audio integration," said Mathias von Heydekampf, managing director of Synthax, distributor of Ferrofish. "With the ability to speak in multiple audio formats, it can reduce the need for additional rack gear in broadcast and integration environments. Further, the Verto series can be controlled remotely from just about any location, and delivers word clock I/O for external synchronization. Our customers will also appreciate its premium conversion quality and its diminutive size."

Universally Connected
The Verto Series can be used alongside other Ferrofish interfaces — such as the A16 MK II, A32 or Pulse16 — as well as other converter brands via the ADAT or MADI I/O. Further, the Verto Series — and all other converters from Ferrofish — can be remotely controlled via the Dante network. If all devices are connected via MIDI, the Verto converts all Dante audio streams to ADAT or MADI and the control commands sent over Dante into MIDI remote control messages. The Verto MX offers an additional feature — instead of a separate MIDI Port the MIDI messages are extracted from the MIDI-over-MADI port.

Compact & Powerful
At just IRU height and ½ –19-inch width, the Verto Series is a serious rack space saver making it easy to fit into space-challenging or remote environments. When it comes to sampling frequencies, the Verto 32 and 64 models range from 44.1 kHz–96 kHz, while the Verto MX supports frequencies from 44.1 kHz–192 kHz.

The channel count varies with each model depending on the sampling frequency selected — providing users with even more options. The Verto 32 supports 32 1/O channels at 48 kHz or 16 I/O channels at 96 KHz, while the Verto 64 supports 64 I/O channels at 48 kHz or 32 I/O channels at 96 kHz. The Verto MX supports 64 I/O channels at 48 kHz, 32 I/O channels at 96 kHz or 16 I/O channels at 192 kHz.
Cast in a svelte and sturdy aluminum housing, the Babyface Pro is a durable and completely portable interface, perfectly suited for project studios, touring musicians or traveling producers. During the RME Experience, RME will demonstrate the Babyface Pro in an iPad / iOS user scenario as well as in a more traditional desktop application environment.

Meantime, RME's ADI-2 Pro AD/DA reference converter, which will also be demoed, packs several of the German interface company's feature sets into a powerful, yet mobile, multi-purpose production tool. Featuring an astonishing sample rate of 768 kHz, full parametric EQ and dynamics, rock-solid clocking and an audiophile grade headphone amplifier, the ADI-2 Pro boasts world-class features in a small footprint. With its parametric EQ functionality, on-board spectral analyzer and binaural cross-feed feature, the ADI-2 Pro is the ultimate monitoring tool that can adapt to any critical listening environment.
