ACUE is honored by NISOD's recognition and delighted to support and expand NISOD's offerings."

Through this collaboration, community and technical college faculty will have the opportunity to earn credit toward ACUE's Certificate in Effective College Instruction through new online and face-to-face "seminars" offered jointly by NISOD and ACUE. Keynote Speakers

2018 conference general session speakers offered new perspectives on education through thought-provoking keynote addresses, much to overwhelming audience acclaim. Alex Sheen, founder of the nonprofit, because I said I would, and recognized as the 2018 Suanne Davis Roueche Distinguished Lecturer, discussed the importance of fulfilling personal commitments through compelling real-life examples during his keynote address. Sheen emphasized that having integrity and keeping your promises are interwoven. "Our promises define our character," said Sheen.

Dr. Tonjua Williams, President of St. Petersburg College and the recipient of the 2018 John E. Roueche International Leadership Award, addressed how community colleges need to provide a "Community of Care" to help break down students' perceived barriers to academic success. "So many times, we are too focused on our roles that we forget about the people we are serving. Those people need our attention, they need us to talk to them, and they need us to listen," said Dr. Williams.
The workshop, titled "Teaching Critical Thinking," focuses on how participants can create lesson plans that enhance critical-thinking skills across disciplines. Participants will also learn how these skills can be easily and accurately measured.

Dr. John Eigenauer, the workshop facilitator, pioneered argument mapping as a means of teaching critical reasoning and has authored several publications about the dispositions of teaching critical thinking.

"Dr. Eigenauer is one of our more popular workshop facilitators," said Edward Leach, NISOD's executive director. "We're excited to partner with Pitt Community College to bring this exceptional professional development opportunity to their faculty, administrators, and staff, as well as to their neighboring colleagues."

NISOD Celebrates Its 40-Year Anniversary

Texas-based association has delivered professional development programs to community and technical colleges since 1978.

Austin, TX -- (ReleaseWire) -- 01/03/2018 -- The National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) is proud to announce its 40th year as the leading association promoting and celebrating excellence in teaching, learning, and leadership at community and technical colleges. NISOD will commemorate the occasion at its annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence in Austin, Texas, May 26-29, 2018, and also through several activities throughout the year.

"I am honored to be leading this organization on its milestone 40th anniversary," said Edward J Leach, NISOD's executive director. "The rich heritage of celebrating teaching excellence and providing budget-friendly, high-quality, and faculty-focused programs and resources for community and technical colleges, combined with the exciting future for this increasingly important sector of higher education, is really thrilling."

NISOD began in 1978 when Dr. John Edward Roueche and Dr. Suanne Davis Roueche, the organization's founders, discovered a need to identify and disseminate teaching strategies and tactics to community college practitioners. The Roueches assembled an organization with the primary purpose of publishing solicited information about community college best practices, beginning with Innovation Abstracts, a two-sided publication that could be read in just a few minutes.

As NISOD grew, the association added new member benefits to enhance community college practitioners' professional development. Today, NISOD provides a weekly newsletter (NISODirect), webinars, regional workshops, student contests, diversity award, faculty scholarships, partner discounts, and the Excellence Awards. Of all the resources NISOD brings to its members, the hallmark is NISOD's International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence, held each May in Austin, Texas.

Although much has changed in 40 years, NISOD's mission has not. NISOD has remained focused on serving, engaging, and inspiring, by concentrating on the 3 R's of quality professional development strategies and programs: Relationships, Resources, and Recognition.

NISOD Announces Its Raleigh, North Carolina Workshop

Austin, TX -- (ReleaseWire) -- 11/20/2017 -- The National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) announces its next Regional Workshop, scheduled for December 1, 2017. The workshop will take place at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Crabtree in Raleigh, North Carolina.

During the workshop, titled "Shift Happens… Again and Again: Transforming Tried, True, and Tired Teaching," participants learn why and how pedagogy needs to change. "Effective teachers understand that what worked years ago may no longer be meaningful to today's students and their career aspirations," said Workshop Facilitator, Teacher, and Author, Steve Piscitelli. "This workshop will help educators provide opportunities for their students to experience individual successes and to connect course concepts to life beyond the classroom."

"Steve Piscitelli has been an extremely popular presenter at our annual conference for many years," said Edward J. Leach, NISOD's Executive Director. "Participants in this workshop will greatly benefit from his extensive knowledge about the history and future of teaching and learning."
