Clearwater, FL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 06/07/2006 -- The continents of Asia, Africa, Europe, South America (and North America) are well represented the newly formed American Kite Surfing Association (ASKA). Nearly 5000 international kite surfers became AKSA members in the first month of operations according to TR Cutler, Inc., which conducted the largest extreme sport survey this spring. Logan Long, President and Co-founder of the organization said, "We are delighted that our inclusive organization will share the American kite surfing experience with people from around the world." Long also suggested, "This organization is about inclusion. Many of the old-timers in the sport are arrogant and try to exclude the efforts of new participants. AKSA is about welcoming everyone to the sport of kite surfing regardless of experience level, race, ethnicity, gender, or orientation. We believe kite surfing is a great sport for anyone who loves thrills and adventure."

Cutler noted that product promotions, a need for extreme sport information, and the growth in the sport are driving the organization's fast-growing membership roster. More than ten thousand North American Registrants have signed up for AKSA privileges during the same time frame.

It is not wind surfing, it is not wakeboarding, it is not surfing; it is not kite flying. It is the fusion of these disciplines with other influences to create the wildest new water sport for years. Popularized by French and Hawaiian stars in early 1999, The UK scene now has approximately 7,000 kite surfers. The U.S. has more than five times the number of kite surfers.

This dramatic interest in the athletically demanding sport has given AKSA founders encouragement about the value of their newly founded organization. Logan Long, co-founder of the association was not surprised by the results; "It's just simply the biggest adrenaline rush available. The combination of air, water, land, wind power, physical strength and balance the force of nature are the qualities that attract Kite Surfers."

Kite Surfing Tips According to American Kite Surfing Association

Kite surfers are advised to keep all equipment in the car and should never leave wind to find wind. Kite surfers must always check and double-check gear before it's windy to be ready at a moments notice. Since the wind is very unpredictable kite surfers must be aware; it can be gusty, stronger on the outside, building, dropping, changing directions, or be accompanied by rain or lightning. It is critical to evaluate the hazards of the location and the ability to deal with them.

According to Logan Long, co-founder of AKSA, "No matter how good you think you are, you can get messed up….a broken line, a kite that has been let go, a wrong turn so be warned. Kite surfing buddies are very helpful." Long also noted that, "Kite surfing is a great work out for your whole body: legs, abs, arms, lats and shoulders." A yoga session before kite surfing is an excellent idea. Keep hydrated and carry protein bars for calories.
