Silver & Silver Outlines Possible Impacts on Social Security Benefits Following the Pandemic

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/06/2021 -- As COVID-19 continues to change all aspects of American life, a particular concern is now being paid to the possible effects the pandemic will have on Social Security benefits. Due to stagnant wages and insufficient tax revenue for the Social Security Trust, many experts fear there will be lasting negative impacts on Social Security recipients in the coming years. Philadelphia's top Social Security disability lawyers at Silver & Silver would like to update Social Security recipients about the potential impact of COVID-19 on the future of the programs.

Social Security benefits are calculated based on several factors, including the age of the recipient and their earnings history. The Social Security Administration also considers national averages of wage growth since the earnings were obtained. Due to the extended lockdowns enacted across the country, wage growth has significantly slowed, leading to uncertainty regarding the impact on Social Security recipients.

The current funding of the Social Security Trust has also come into question. With a large portion of Americans currently not employed, payroll contributions to the trust fund have decreased. Additionally, legislation passed earlier this year included a temporary moratorium on employer-based Social Security funding, which has further complicated the outlook for Social Security.

As the United States continues to navigate the challenges posed by the emergence of COVID-19, many questions remain unanswered about how Social Security can successfully maintain its commitment to the American people. Without additional legislative steps to protect the integrity of the program, the future of Social Security benefits will remain uncertain.

Silver & Silver Provides an Update on Social Security Hearings

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/10/2020 -- Many families and individuals who rely on Social Security Benefits have been eagerly waiting for a sense of normalcy to return to the legal system. Unfortunately, due to the sudden spike of COVID-19 cases across the nation, the Social Security Administration will continue to operate on a remote basis for the health and safety of the public at large. Through it all, the experienced Silver & Silver Social Security Disability attorneys serving the Greater Philadelphia area and beyond have been available to help claimants secure the benefits they rightfully deserve.

The Social Security Administration is currently conducting most hearings over the phone. The claimant, the judge, the claimant's attorney, and any necessary expert witnesses will connect on one line to discuss the claimant's case. The outcome of such proceedings weighs heavily on the lawyer and their client's ability to convincingly convey the claimant's inability to work under these very limited trial constraints, which is why working with an experienced attorney is invaluable to procuring a favorable result.

Recently, the Social Security Administration suggested claimants and their representatives would soon be able to conduct proceedings through video conferencing, providing the opportunity for a more informative hearing.

Despite the shift from live to virtual hearings via telephone and video conferencing, the Silver & Silver team is dedicated to building strong and successful cases for those who need Social Security Benefits. The ongoing pandemic has caused a lot of stress and uncertainty among families and individuals with disabilities. Silver and Silver's award-winning Social Security Disability lawyers are determined to do whatever it takes to help residents of Philadelphia and the surrounding areas gain access to their rightful benefits.

Silver & Silver Sheds Light on if Benefits Will Be Impacted Be the Receipt of Unemployment Benefits

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/10/2020 -- The ongoing COVID-19 crisis has impacted every organization, including the Social Security Administration. With millions of people relying on Social Security benefits to survive, the experienced Social Security Disability attorneys at Silver & Silver stand ready to provide guidance to claimants seeking assistance with Social Security applications in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas.

Perhaps the biggest concern voiced by Social Security beneficiaries is whether their benefits will be affected by the receipt of unemployment compensation. Many families who were affected by the economic downturn had no choice but to turn to the government for financial assistance to make ends meet. Thankfully, unemployment funds are considered "unearned income" and should not impact Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits that an individual already receives. However, a person is required to report any additional financial assistance to the Social Security Administration to continue receiving these benefits, and this would include unemployment benefits. For individuals who have not yet been approved for Social Security Disability benefits, it may become necessary in the future to explain to a judge how he or she was disabled according to Social Security's regulations yet certified he or she was ready, able, and willing to work to receive unemployment compensation. The experienced attorneys at Silver & Silver understand how this can sometimes be the case and have years of experience helping their clients explain this to a judge.

It is important that individuals who receive or have applied for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits through the Social Security Administration realize that because SSI is a needs-based program, the receipt of unemployment compensation will significantly impact current or future SSI benefits.

Silver & Silver's talented team of Social Security Disability lawyers continues to provide free consultations to assist with Social Security claims.
Silver & Silver Announces 2020-2021 LIHEAP Applications Are Available Now

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/27/2020 -- As the winter season quickly approaches in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, many impoverished families will find themselves struggling to provide a warm and comfortable home to their loved ones. Silver & Silver, a leading team of Social Security disability attorneys dedicated to making a positive change in the community, is encouraging those in need to apply for the 2020-2021 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) as soon as possible. Applications are available online from now until April 9, 2021, and can be found on the Department of Human Services (DHS) website.

The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program offers cash grants to low-income families who cannot otherwise afford to pay their heating bills. Crisis grants are also available for emergency situations, such as furnace breakdowns or an unexpected fuel shortage. The value of the grants may be anywhere between $200 and $1000, and, most importantly, do not have to be repaid. Monetary assistance will be distributed based on household size, income, and fuel type.

Applicants do not have to be on public assistance to receive help through LIHEAP, nor will any lien be placed on their property. The grants are available to both renters and homeowners who meet the income guidelines, which can be reviewed in greeted detail on the DHS website. This season's income limits for the LIHEAP cash and crisis grants are $19,140 per year for an individual. This limit increases by $6,720 for each additional person in the household.

Those who are interested in taking advantage of this program should visit the DHS website to fill out an online form or print the application and return it to their local county assistance office upon completion.

Silver & Silver Announces Second Edition of "The Silver Formula for Success: How to 'Guarantee' Your Disability Claim Is Approved" eBook by Mike Silver Is Now Available

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/13/2020 -- The team at Silver & Silver, a leading disability law firm serving Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, is excited to announce that the second edition of Mike Silver's The Silver Formula for Success: How to "Guarantee" Your Disability Claim is Approved, is available for free download on the Silver & Silver website.

Mike Silver, co-founder of Silver & Silver, has practiced disability law for over 40 years. Since his early days as a young lawyer, Mr. Silver set out to help individuals who were struggling to gain the benefits they deserved but were not being approved by the Social Security Administration. Today, he has become one of the top disability lawyers in the country.

Although the Social Security Disability Insurance program was specifically developed to aid those who cannot work due to physical or mental impairments and must thus rely on outside help for essential resources, thousands of individuals are left empty-handed after filing their claims. Every year, almost 70 percent of Social Security Disability applicants are denied benefits during the initial evaluation. Those who refile their application or appeal a denial don't fare much better and are usually required to appear in front of a judge in order to have their applications approved.

The Silver & Silver team is committed to helping disabled adults and children. In Mr. Silver's own words, "It is my genuine hope that this information will help you learn the important things that you should — and should not — do when pursuing a Social Security Disability claim." The second edition of the eBook provides an insider look at how to gain access to Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income.

Silver & Silver Helping Philadelphia Residents Navigate Social Security Benefits and Unemployment

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/23/2020 -- Individuals who currently receive Social Security Disability benefits may still be eligible to apply for unemployment without fear of losing out on their Social Security. The Silver & Silver Social Security disability attorneys are always available and ready to help local residents navigate the tricky aftermath of unemployment and how it affects Social Security Disability benefits.

Unemployment benefits are provided to people who are 'ready, willing and able' to work but are struggling to find jobs. Social Security Disability benefits, on the other hand, are provided to people who meet the medical conditions of being disabled and have held jobs that are covered by Social Security. Someone may also be capable of working a sedentary job despite his or her disability and still receive Social Security benefits.

Since unemployment benefits and Social Security benefits are not mutually exclusive, they can be provided to an individual at the same time. Furthermore, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA), unemployment compensation is classified as "unearned income," and does not affect Social Security benefits.

This does not mean that all Social Security Disability beneficiaries should apply for unemployment. In certain cases, receiving unemployment benefits will reduce and possibly preclude Social Security Insurance eligibility.
Silver & Silver Informs Workers of Employment Laws That Offer Protection During the COVID-19 Crisis

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/30/2020 -- As the threat of the coronavirus continues to hang over workplaces nationwide, many employees are struggling to balance their need for work with a concern for their health and safety. The Philadelphia-based workers compensation lawyers at Silver & Silver would like to highlight two employment laws that offer protection for workers facing this difficult predicament.

The Americans With Disabilities Act requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations for employees living with chronic health conditions that interfere with at least one major life activity. Workers with respiratory conditions such as asthma could be particularly vulnerable to adverse reactions if they were exposed to COVID-19. In accordance with the law, employers must find a way to reasonably accommodate such employees — for example, providing them with Personal Protective Equipment to wear on the job.

The National Labor Relations Act protects workers' right to engage in certain "concerted activities" to address work-related issues. These activities include talking to coworkers about working conditions, circulating a petition to ask for better working conditions, voicing a group complaint to the employer, or even collectively refusing to work in unsafe conditions. The law also prohibits employers from discharging, threatening, or coercively questioning employees who engage in these protected activities.

Workers in the Philadelphia area who feel their employer has violated either of these laws are encouraged to contact Silver & Silver to schedule a consultation. As home to leading wrongful termination lawyers in Delaware County and the surrounding region, Silver & Silver has been standing up for employees' rights for more than 40 years.
Silver & Silver Advises Social Security Disability Recipients on How to Get Help with Benefits During Coronavirus Outbreak

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/24/2020 -- Silver & Silver, leading Social Security Disability attorneys in the Philadelphia area, have been monitoring the news regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and how it impacts recipients of Social Security Disability benefits. In response to the global pandemic, the United States Social Security Administration recently announced that it would be closing all public offices indefinitely in an effort to protect workers and benefits recipients from the spread of the virus.

The lawyers at Silver & Silver understand how much additional stress and uncertainty the pandemic has caused people who depend on their Social Security Disability benefits to live. Until the outbreak subsides and life returns to normal, the firm is advising anyone who needs help resolving issues with their Social Security benefits to seek service either online or over the phone.

The Social Security Administration offers an online portal at https://www.ssa.gov/onlineservices/, where citizens can apply for disability, retirement, or Medicare benefits, request a replacement Social Security card, print out a benefits verification form, or check the status of an application or appeal.

For business that cannot be handled online, a second possible course of action is to call the national Social Security hotline at 1-800-772-1213. Citizens can wait on the line to speak with a representative between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday, or they can utilize the hotline's 24-hour automated system to get the answers they need in a more timely manner.

Finally, citizens can try calling their local field office. Contact information for all Social Security offices can be found by searching the administration's online directory.

Individuals who have an upcoming in-person appointment should receive a phone call from a Social Security representative at the time of their appointment. The Social Security Administration has advised that these calls will come from a private, not a federal, phone line.

Philadelphia area residents grappling with Social Security issues that cannot be resolved through any of these channels may be able to pursue legal action to get the benefits they need. These individuals are encouraged to call Silver & Silver today and consult with the top Social Security lawyers in Montgomery County, PA, and the surrounding area.

Silver & Silver Advises Philadelphia Area Residents on Proposed Changes to Social Security Claim Process

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/20/2020 -- By some estimates, up to one in twelve Philadelphia residents receives Federal Social Security Disability (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits due to an inability to work as a result of disabling medical impairments. Yet, many of those individuals are facing an uncertain future when it comes to the benefits they rely on to live. The Montgomery County Social Security Disability attorneys at Silver & Silver want to highlight a troubling change to Social Security benefits process that was recently proposed by the Trump Administration, that has to potential to negatively impact a large number of area residents.

These changes, outlined in late 2019, would potentially cut off SSDI and SSI benefits for hundreds of thousands of Americans, including the elderly and children.

Under this proposal, individuals who have qualified for SSDI or SSI benefits in the past would be subjected to a "Continuing Disability Review" every twenty-four months, whereby the government would consider anew whether they continue to qualify for these benefits. This shortening of the period before continuing benefits claims are reconsidered would mean that individuals who have in many cases waited years to prove their eligibility for these benefits would be in a state of perpetually proving their impairments are disabling.

Additionally, with the Social Security Administration already stretched thin and understaffed, the additional workload will likely cause further delays in the claims process in an agency that has historically been known for excessively long wait times to move through the administrative process. For individuals who depend on disability benefits to support their families, a long wait could significantly impact the household budget.

Silver & Silver understands that the possibility of losing essential benefits is a stressful prospect for families across the Philadelphia area. To guard against this detrimental shift in Social Security law, Silver & Silver urges all Pennsylvania residents to register to vote your interests in state, local and federal elections.

Anyone facing an SSDI or SSI denial or requiring legal guidance to pursue the benefits they deserve are strongly encouraged to contact Silver & Silver. For a free consultation with these leading Social Security and personal injury attorneys in Philadelphia, PA, visit the Silver & Silver website and fill out an online contact form.
On November 3, 2020, American citizens can exercise their right to choose who will lead their government on the national, state, and local levels and Silver & Silver strongly encourages all Philadelphia area residents to register to vote so they can take part in the democratic process.

Residents of Pennsylvania who will be 18 years old or older on Election Day and are U.S. citizens are eligible to vote. In New Jersey, the minimum age for voting is 17. In Pennsylvania, the deadline for registration is October 4, 2020, and in New Jersey, the deadline is October 13, 2020.
Voting is a powerful way for these, and all citizens to have their voices heard and to choose leaders they believe will stand up for their rights.

Silver & Silver Sheds Light on Changes in Food Stamp Work Requirements

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/18/2019 -- Hundreds of thousands of Americans are expected to lose access to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, otherwise known as SNAP, or food stamps, due to recent changes in the program's work requirements. However, individuals who cannot work due to a disability should not be impacted by the new rules.

Silver & Silver, home to the leading workers' comp lawyers in Philadelphia, Montgomery, and Delaware County and the surrounding region, helps disabled clients pursue compensation when they cannot work due to illness or injury. These disabled individuals can still receive food stamps in addition to disability benefits under the revised federal SNAP guidelines announced in early December. However, individuals who are concerned about losing their SNAP benefits while they attempt to prove a disability claim are encouraged to contact Silver & Silver for a legal consultation.

Adults between the ages of 18 and 49 are required by law to work at least 20 hours per week for a period of 36 months in order to qualify for food stamps — as long as they have no children and do not suffer from a disability. In the past, states were able to waive these work requirements in regions with a high unemployment rate, but the new US Department of Agriculture guidelines will limit these waivers to areas with unemployment rates of 6 percent or higher.

That change is expected to save the federal government $5.5 billion, while an estimated 688,000 people will lose access to food stamps if they do not meet the work requirements.

People who suffer from disabilities that prevent them from working are entitled to federal assistance under the law. While those rights do not change due to new SNAP policy, anyone with questions or concerns about how their disability claim could affect their food stamp eligibility are encouraged to contact Silver & Silver today. Their leading Social Security disability and wrongful termination attorneys in Philadelphia, Montgomery, and Delaware County, PA, and the surrounding region can be reached through a contact form on their website.
Individuals who take Zantac and have been diagnosed with cancer, or suffered other adverse health effects such as liver damage, could be entitled to compensation. The attorneys at Silver & Silver specialize in building and litigating these types of personal injury cases.

Zantac has been around since 1983, but the Food and Drug Administration recently discovered that the drug's active ingredient, ranitidine, is metabolized by the human body into a cancer-causing agent called N-nitrosodimethylamine, otherwise known as NDMA. In October 2019, drug companies issued a recall of Zantac, and major pharmacies such as Walgreens and CVS wiped their shelves of all ranitidine products.

Many lawsuits have already been filed against the makers of Zantac, alleging that the drug companies understood the health risks of Zantac and knowingly endangered people who take the drug by continuing to manufacture it, distribute it to the public, and market it without disclosing the truth about ranitidine. Legal experts are predicting that a large number of class action and personal injury lawsuits will be filed in the coming months against such drug makers as Boehringer Ingelheim and Sanofi, which manufactured Zantac as an oral, over-the-counter treatment for heartburn and acid reflux.

Individuals who believe they have been affected by the cancer-causing agent in Zantac are encouraged to contact Silver & Silver today to schedule a free consultation.
Silver & Silver Helps Motorists Injured in Rear-End Collisions Pursue the Compensation They Deserve

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/06/2019 -- Silver & Silver, a team of personal injury lawyers serving Philadelphia, PA, and beyond, are who people turn to when they're hurt in rear-end motor vehicle collisions. Often, these accidents happen because another driver was tailgating, or following too closely, and could not stop in time to avoid a collision.

Pennsylvania law stipulates that drivers must maintain a following distance that is "reasonable and prudent" in relation to road conditions and traffic volume. However, many drivers fail to pay due attention to their following distance, and as a result, hundreds of thousands of people are injured in rear-end collisions across the U.S. every year. Rear-end collisions can cause whiplash, concussions, broken bones, and even spinal cord damage, among other serious injuries.

The personal injury attorneys at Silver & Silver have successfully represented drivers who were injured because of another's negligence and need compensation to pay medical bills and other living expenses. Insurance companies can be a formidable opponent for motorists filing personal injury claims, but Silver & Silver will spare accident victims that extra stress and do all they can to help get them the money they deserve.

It's not always possible to avoid rear-end collisions, but Silver & Silver recommends that all drivers monitor their following distance, particularly in inclement weather. Drivers should also adhere to the "two-second rule"—a method of measuring safe following distance that involves watching the previous car pass a stationary object, then counting out at least two seconds before the next car passes that same object.

Other ways to minimize tailgating are to mind the speed limit at all times, remain in the designated travel lanes, and only use passing lanes when it's absolutely necessary to pass another vehicle.

Motorists injured in a rear-end collision through no fault of their own are strongly encouraged to schedule a consultation with the Philadelphia, PA, auto and truck accident lawyers at Silver & Silver today.
Mike Silver, Esq. of Silver & Silver Honored at Annual Conference of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/03/2019 -- Mike Silver, Esq. is a leading Social Security disability attorney, serving the Montgomery County, PA, area for more than 40 years. He has dedicated his career to standing up for the rights of the disabled, and his role as a pioneer in his profession has earned him widespread acclaim throughout the legal field.

The most recent of these accolades came during the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR) annual conference when Mr. Silver was honored as one of the earliest practitioners of Social Security disability law in the nation and a distinguished past NOSSCR president.

The conference took place in New Orleans from Sept. 11-14, 2019, and was attended by more than 1,000 disability attorneys. It was the 40th annual conference for the NOSSCR, a national organization of more than 3,000 members that acts as an invaluable support system for attorneys working in the challenging realm of Social Security disability law.

Mr. Silver's passion for this particular area of law fueled his decision to start Silver & Silver with his wife in 1981. After a decade spent battling the Social Security Administration on behalf of disability claimants in the Philadelphia area, Mr. Silver served as NOSSCR's Regional Representative for the Third Circuit, then moved on to become National Secretary and Treasurer. He was elected president in 1990.

As president, Mr. Silver gave an inspiring speech at a past NOSSCR annual conference, and that speech was the only one by a former president to be published at this year's conference.

Residents of the Philadelphia area struggling to collect the Social Security Disability benefits they deserve have always found a friend in Mike.
Silver & Silver Applauds PA Supreme Court Ruling to Reinstate General Assistance Program

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/11/2018 -- In a decisive win for many poverty-stricken individuals across the state, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania has just voted to eliminate Act 80 of 2012, effectively reinstating the General Assistance (GA) program, which supplies modest cash assistance to those living in deep poverty due to a severe disability, domestic abuse, or other factors that prevent them from working.

On July 18, 2017, in a 7-0 decision, the court ruled Act 80 unconstitutional, as it bundled together disparate provisions including the elimination of the GA program. This has been hailed as a great victory for many Pennsylvanians who are living with substantial disability and those seeking treatment for opioid addiction. It will also provide assistance to those waiting to appeal a denial of disability benefits.

As Social Security lawyers helping disabled clients in Camden, NJ, and throughout Greater Philadelphia, the attorneys at Silver & Silver applaud the decision by the court and see it as a necessary step in providing assistance to those who need it most.

When the program was eliminated in 2012, an estimated 68,000 Pennsylvanians lost the monthly benefits they relied on to afford food, rent, transportation for medical care and other basic needs. Although $205 per month might not sound significant, for many, this was the difference that kept a roof over many people's heads. Additionally, the state saw little monetary return from cutting the program, as it resulted in higher costs to local and state governments for incarceration and services for the homeless.

Silver & Silver Welcome Four New Employees to Their Growing Team

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/12/2018 -- Silver & Silver is pleased to announce that four new employees, Amanda Nguyen, Maria Alday, Theresa Castellucci, and Diana Alignan will be joining their growing law firm this July. While it was bittersweet for Silver & Silver to say goodbye to long-time friend and colleague Karen Silver, they are happy to welcome Amanda, Maria, Theresa, and Diana into the Silver & Silver family.

Amanda Nguyen, the firm's newest paralegal, comes to Silver & Silver with substantial experience preparing, processing, and communicating legal documents to both in-house attorneys and clients alike. She is also fluent in Spanish, which will help the firm tremendously with clients who do not speak English as their first language.

Theresa Castellucci is currently a J.D. candidate at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. Theresa brings to Silver & Silver ample knowledge on various legal topics after completing a number of internships at several law firms. Throughout the school year, Theresa was also fortunate enough to have been selected to write for the Jeffrey S. Moorad Sports Law Journal at Villanova.

Last but not least, Silver & Silver welcomes Diana Alignan, who will be performing various duties around the office as the team's Intake Specialist. Answering phones, conducting intake interviews, and assisting new prospects, are just a few of the tasks Diana will fulfill. In her previous job, she most enjoyed helping Veterans with Social Security applications. Outside of work Diana enjoys classical and jazz music, cooking, walking and yoga. Having lived in France for many years, Diana is also fluent in French.

Silver & Silver Announces Longtime Employee Karen Silver Is Retiring After Years of Service

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/12/2018 -- Silver & Silver, one of Philadelphia's trusted and most decorated disability law firms, is saying goodbye to longtime employee Karen Silver after 14 years of dedicated service. Ms. Silver worked closely with the firm's attorneys to compile case files and help secure disability benefits for clients throughout the Philadelphia region.

As one of the region's top disability, personal injury, and workers' compensation law firms, Silver & Silver employs only the most devoted and trustworthy employees. As a former social worker in Philadelphia, Karen Silver embodied these characteristics and served the firm well in her 14-year tenure. While the attorneys at Silver & Silver are saddened to bid farewell to their beloved colleague, they recognize the positive impact she has had not only on the firm but in the lives of clients throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond.

In her time at Silver & Silver, the firm has helped hundreds of clients in and near Philadelphia to secure the disability benefits they need to pay for living costs, medical expenses, and offset lost wages after being diagnosed with a debilitating medical condition. Due to the time-sensitive nature of disability claims and appeal processes, Ms. Silver's role was critical in expediting disability insurance cases and ensuring the firm could help as many clients as possible. With much appreciation for her countless hours of hard work and dedication to the firm and the local community, Silver & Silver wishes Karen Silver the best in the next chapter of her life.

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/06/2018 -- Once again, attorney Mike Silver of Silver & Silver has been named one of Pennsylvania's premier lawyers by the organization Super Lawyers®, which is dedicated to identifying top attorneys across the nation. As a negligence and disability lawyer for Camden, NJ, and Philadelphia area residents, Mr. Silver has built an extensive and impressive career, which has again been recognized with this award.

Mike Silver, Esq. is not only a founder of Silver & Silver, one of the top SSI Disability Law firms of Delaware County, but remains influential in the current landscape of Disability Law. Some highlights of his career are as follows:

Silver & Silver Participates in Philadelphia Bar Association's Disability Law Committee's Conference on Long Wait Times for Social Security Disability Hearings

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/13/2018 -- The Philadelphia Inquirer recently published the article, "SSI backlog: Thousands around Philly waiting more than two years for disability hearing." This article highlights the significant delays many people face when requesting a Social Security Disability hearing. On Wednesday, February 21, 2018, the Social Security Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association held a panel discussion to address the issue.

The article was written by Inquirer Staff Writer Claudia Vargas, who was present at the meeting as a member of the panel. Also on the panel was Congressman Brendan Boyle of the United States House of Representatives, who represents Pennsylvania's 13th congressional district. Mike Silver, a senior partner at Silver & Silver and founding Chairman of the Social Security Disability Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association, was in attendance at the meeting along with Stephanie M. Imbesi, Esq. of Silver & Silver, who previously was the Director of Social Security's South Jersey Office of Hearings and Appeals.

The topic of the panel discussion was the exceedingly long wait times for disabled persons awaiting their Social Security hearings. While this is shocking and unsettling news to many, it is something Social Security Disability lawyers have been struggling with for nearly a decade. In response to the Inquirer article, Mike Silver, Esq. explains, "This is particularly difficult...for people who are out of work, many critically ill, who often are uninsured for medical care." He further stated that, "after waiting so long for a hearing, the result is most often a denial and a further appeal to Federal Court may be necessary so as a result, claimants can often wait up to five years to get a day in court which can result in an award of benefits."

After the meeting, Stephanie Imbesi, Esq. said, "It was reassuring to hear Congressman Boyle speak with passion regarding his concern for disabled individuals" She also explained that at Silver & Silver, "Having former Social Security Administration employees on our staff, we understand the issues contributing to these horrific delays and look forward to working with Congressman Boyle and other legislators to share our perspectives and help to reduce these unfair and costly delays."
