Optimally designed for Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP)-constrained military / aerospace vehicle and aircraft installations, the new DuraCOR 820-A small form-factor rugged processor delivers processing and multimedia performance comparable (or better) to Pentium M-based DuraCOR solutions, but with less power consumption, double the RAM memory capacity, and dual Flash Solid State Disks (SSDs). For application flexibility, the unit comes with a 4GB industrial SSD pre-loaded with a Linux or Windows Embedded operating system, as well as a 16 GB Compact Flash disk for file storage. The unit is based on a modular PC/104-Plus open architecture, making it possible to customize/special order and meet program-specific I/O requirements. It can automatically adjust to specified energy usage levels, speed-up data center transactions and customer database queries thanks to new features such as Intel Turbo Boost which increases system performance based on the user's needs, and Integrated Power Gates that turn off unused cores to save electricity and reduce heat. A high accuracy solution for reliable bi-directional detection and counting of passengers in public transportation vehicles

Amaro, Italy -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/09/2007 -- Eurotech has released the PCN-1001 Passenger Counter that is based on non-contact stereoscopic vision detection technology. This new technology and advanced interpretation algorithm results in a high detection accuracy exceeding 97% under all lighting conditions all year round. The reliable bi-directional counting results in correct and precise data that can be used for statistical or data interpretation. Date and time information can be stored together with passenger count information.

Passenger movement detection in doorways requires the ability to adapt to fast changing or low luminosity lighting conditions. The PCN-1001 optical front panel combines stereoscopic cameras with high luminosity infrared LEDs. This adjustable front panel can be set into different angles making installation easier on non-horizontal surfaces or different sensor positions.

The PCN-1001 supports parallel operation of multiple counters in a daisy-chained configuration for wide doorways. The counters are able to work together in real time with overlapping areas and active detection zones. In stand-alone or daisy-chained operation, a serial RS-485 level communication bus is used to interface the sensors to the host PC of the vehicle. Isolated digital inputs and outputs can be used to control devices on the vehicle, detect door position or to trigger external systems.

Reliable operation and high availability is important in systems for public transportation. The PCN-1001 is enclosed in a solid sealed magnesium enclosure with locking automotive-grade connectors. The rugged construction and wide operating temperature range makes the PCN-1001 an ideal choice for installations in tropical or arctic conditions. This new wireless PC/104 module targets professional mobile communications applications such as asset management, vehicle tracking and telematics

Amaro, Italy -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/07/2007 -- Eurotech has today released the COM-1289, a high-integration wireless PC/104 communication module capable of precision GPS satellite positioning and seamless communication in 900/1800 and 1900MHz cellular GSM/GPRS networks worldwide.

The COM-1289 is based on the latest low power high sensitivity Fastrax iTrax03 GPS receiver technology capable of reliable positioning in difficult urban canyon and dense foliage environments. The position can be updated at 1-3Hz and GPS data is available in NMEA or binary protocol. The internationally approved Siemens MC55 tri-band GSM/GPRS wireless terminal supports SMS, high-speed GPRS data, fax and voice communication. An onboard locking SIM-card slot can be easily accessed with the module installed in a system. Optionally an external SIM card interface can be connected to the module. The audio I/O-port can be used to connect to low power devices or a headset for voice communication.

Integrated peripheral interfaces include two 16C550 compatible RS-232 level serial ports that provide traditional hardwired serial I/O functions for legacy communications. The GPS and GSM/GPRS terminal are accessed through a standard UART interface that is supported by all operating systems.

Board configuration is fully software controlled and all resources can be set with the module installed in the system. Amaro, Italy -- (ReleaseWire) -- 10/24/2006 -- Eurotech has today unveiled the CPU-1462, a high reliability Single Board Computer (SBC). This RoHS compliant module is based on the 800MHz Intel? Pentium? III processor with 256MB of SDRAM soldered onboard and versatile peripheral interfaces. The CPU-1462 is an upgrade and replacement to the widely proven CPU-1460 and CPU-1461 CPU modules.

The highly integrated CPU-1462 peripheral interfaces include four high-speed USB2.0 ports suitable for modern mass storage media, cameras or other high performance expansion devices. A new low power and RoHS compliant CPU module featuring four serial ports and two Fast Ethernet controllers

Amaro, Italy -- (ReleaseWire) -- 08/01/2006 -- Eurotech has just released the CPU-1421, a new PC/104-Plus Single Board Computer ideally suited for applications requiring high reliability and low power consumption such as mobile systems in the transportation, industrial, medical and military environments.

The CPU-1421 replaces the CPU-1420 giving compliance with the 2002/95/CE (RoHS) directives. It is based on the AMD Elan SC520 133MHz processor with 64MB of onboard soldered SDRAM for high reliability. Peripheral interfaces include: four serial ports, two independent 10/100Mbps Ethernet controllers, a bi-directional EPP/ECP parallel port, an EIDE hard drive, speaker, keyboard and mouse; two additional 16-bit counter/timers are free for the user. Onboard features also include Real Time Clock and Watch Dog timer.

This very low power consumption module is ideal for systems that require passive or structural heat dissipation. The module and the Eurotech embedded BIOS ensure compatibility with popular commercial operating systems such as Windows CE, VxWorks, Linux and QNX.

The Embedded BIOS is located in a 1MB Flash EPROM and is re-programmable onboard. Set-up parameters are stored in non-volatile Flash memory to enable the module to operate without a battery and avoid corruption of set up data in the field.

The CPU-1421 has been designed for harsh environments, resisting vibration, humidity and temperature extremes. The standard operating temperature is 0°C to +60°C, qualification for -55°C to +85°C operating temperature range is possible.

Amaro, Italy -- (ReleaseWire) -- 06/28/2006 -- The Italian stock exchange saw the unveiling of the Zypad, the wrist-worn computer made by Eurotech, a company dedicated to the research, development, production and marketing of miniature computers (NanoPCs) and high processing capacity (HPC) computers.

Zypad, the result of a high-tech design that combines circuit miniaturisation, a range of hardware functions, optimised power consumption and ergonomic criteria, is a little gem that weighs around 290 grams and promises to revolutionise the way millions of people work. In the long-term, it could become a day-to-day object as common as the mobile phone or the palmtop.

'The idea behind the wrist-worn computer project,' explains Eurotech boss Roberto Siagri, 'was to "leave the user's hands free". Zypad will enable users to work with a network connection without being tied to a fixed position. These wearable computers will give us a new freedom of movement, radically changing the way we work, and for the better.'

The primary target is people working in hostile environments, where computers have become essential, but the use of a traditional PC or any other hand-held device is still impossible. Wearable computers are a way of ensuring access to integrated devices without unnecessarily inconveniencing users.

The fact that Zypad is integrated into the users' personal space and does not monopolise their attention also means that its processing platform and multimedia capabilities can be used without getting in the way of the user's current activities.

'From a technological point of view,' explains Roberto Turchi, Marketing & Sales Manager at WearablePC, 'making a wrist-worn computer has involved overcoming a lot of sizeable challenges. Ergonomic studies have demonstrated that weight, wearability and screen size are all important factors in a wearable computer and, in order to meet these requirements, Eurotech has miniaturised the circuits as much as possible to create a computer that is easy to use and comfortable to wear.

The controls are flexible as they depend to a large extent on the user's requirements and the intended application. Both touch screen and navigation keys can be used, with voice-recognition software currently under development. In all cases, the devices are designed to be as streamlined as possible.

'We had another big success in power consumption,' continues Turchi. 'Thanks to a number of innovative, patented solutions, Eurotech technicians have managed to create a system that allows the wrist-worn computer to run only when it is actually in use, among other things.'

A range of potential users in Italy and abroad are already testing the Zypad.

Eurotech's new wrist-worn computer could be used in a range of situations where 'hands-free' and 'always-on network connection' are particularly important, some of which are given below:

Civil protection
Wrist-worn computers could send and receive information to fire fighters and other rescue workers at incident sites. In the near future it will also be possible to receive data transmitted by reconnaissance robots and, using additional sensors, Zypad will also be able to warn users of invisible dangers, such as toxic substances.

Medical sector
Wrist-worn computers will enable medical and paramedical staff to quickly access databases and, in the near future, to read medical data from electronic bracelets worn by patients. Consequently, wrist-worn computers will be particularly useful for preventing errors due to mixing up medical records or misreading a patient's data. According to some estimates made in the US, the probability of an orthopaedic surgeon operating on the wrong limb in the course of a career could be as high as 25%. For some time now, and in the US in particular, protocols that require medical and paramedical staff to record their actions and the patient's data on a computer have been undergoing tests.

Logistics
In warehouses, the time required to select items for packaging and shipment as well as inventory procedures could be considerably reduced thanks to the fact that the Zypad wrist-worn computer can read barcodes and process data on the spot, eliminating the need to transfer data to another computer for processing.

Security and defence
Wrist-worn computers could be used by the police, for example to maintain a constant data exchange between the operations centre, vehicles and officers on the street. Similar uses would be possible in the defence sector.

Power sector
Workers at nuclear power plants currently carry devices that check for excessive levels of radioactivity. Such devices can only be read by the individual user, but a wrist-worn computer could send information on all workers to a control centre in real time, ensuring a quick response in the event of an accident.

Other uses
The procedures for selling airline tickets and boarding planes, which require a fixed terminal, could be revolutionised with the use of wrist-worn computers, making its possible for employees to circulate among passengers to perform the necessary checks, thus removing the need for a fixed terminal.

Udine, Italy -- (ReleaseWire) -- 06/19/2006 -- The Eurotech Passenger Counter, featuring highly accurate stereoscopic cameras integrated within a robust and lightweight extruded aluminium enclosure, can be considered one of the most reliable solutions available on the market for passenger counting operations.

The Passenger Counter meets the environmental specifications of EN51055 T1 up to IP65 protection class.

Software interfacing is simple: a standard RS-485 serial port is used to communicate data to and from the Passenger Counter.
