The Fraudulent Nature of Psychiatric Labels Exposed by Human Rights Group

There are no genetic tests, no brain scans, blood tests, chemical imbalance tests or X-rays that can scientifically/medically prove that any psychiatric label is a real medical condition.

Vancouver, British Columbia -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/25/2011 -- A new must-see video produced by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights International graphically demonstrates the fraudulent nature of all psychiatry's labels.

The children in the video rip off their bogus psychiatric label and show a genuine label of their true nature. The name under the label of one child labeled with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD) is simply "Kid".

In real life, 20 million children are now wearing these labels that are based solely on a checklist of behaviors. There are no brain scans, x-rays, genetic or blood tests that can prove the scientific validity of any of the psychiatric labels, yet these children are prescribed dangerous and life-threatening psychiatric drugs based on nothing more than the invented label.

Child drugging is a $4.8 billion-a-year industry.

The psychiatric/pharmaceutical industry spends billions of dollars a year in order to convince the public, legislators and the press that these labels such as Bi-Polar Disorder, Depression, (ADD/ADHD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, etc., are medical diseases on par with verifiable medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease. This is simply a way to maintain their hold on a $84 billion dollar-a-year psychiatric drug industry that is based on marketing and not science.

Brian Beaumont, president of the Vancouver chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) said, "Unlike real medical disease, there are no scientific tests to verify the medical existence of any psychiatric disorder. Falsely labeling children is fraud and drugging these children is child abuse".

Despite decades of trying to prove mental disorders are biological brain conditions, due to chemical imbalances or genetic factors, psychiatry has failed to prove even one of their hundreds of so-called mental disorders is due to a faulty or "chemically imbalanced" brain".

Psychiatrist to Have Preliminary Hearing on Sexual Assault Charges

In the 1980s and 1990s Psychiatrist Aubrey Levin, then a colonel, was the chief psychiatrist at 1 Military Hospital's infamous Ward 22, where homosexual conscripts and soldiers were "treated" with aversion therapy.

Vancouver, British Columbia -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/22/2010 -- Aubrey Levin, a forensic psychiatrist who is facing 21 counts of sexual assault, will have his preliminary hearing in June 2011 to determine if there is sufficient evidence to go to trial.

According to media sources 20 additional complainants have contacted police in the time since Levin's initial arrest in March 2010. The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) has also been contacted by some of these victims alleging they too were sexually assaulted by Levin. CCHR is a psychiatric watchdog group committed to investigating and exposing psychiatric violations of human rights.

CCHR has asked the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons to explain how Dr. Aubrey Levin, who emigrated to Canada in the mid 90s, was allowed to become a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry (Forensic Division) at the University of Calgary's Medical School, in light of the fact that in 1997 South Africa's "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" named him for possible "gross human rights abuses" during Apartheid rule. The college has refused to respond to this vital question.

The forensic psychiatrist, who fled to Canada after the end of Apartheid rule, was originally arrested by police in Alberta on March 24 2010. He was charged with sexual assault after a 36-year-old former patient alleged he was sexually abused while being treated by the doctor.

It has been reported that in the 1980s and 1990s Levin, then a colonel, was the chief psychiatrist at 1 Military Hospital's infamous Ward 22, where homosexual conscripts and soldiers were "treated" with aversion therapy. There have also been reports that involuntary sex changes, sometimes deliberately botched, were imposed on gays and lesbians. The process included chemical castration and electric shocks.

According to South African media sources, Levin's 'treatment' of homosexuals, both male and female, comprised attaching electrodes to the arms of his subjects. These were connected to a machine operated by a dial calibrated from 1 to 10. In the case of suspected gay men, the subjects were shown black and white pictures of naked men and encouraged by Levin to fantasize about the pictures. They were then given increasingly painful shocks. This process was followed by showing the 'patients' Playboy centerfolds, which would be described in glowing terms by the psychiatrist, with no shocks administered. The same process, using pictures of women, counter posed with naked men, was employed with those women deemed to have lesbian tendencies.

Levin denied that he had taken part in any gender reassignment surgery — the surgical alteration of the genders of individuals. But he had never been accused of this. He was not a surgeon. The only allegation had been that he had referred military conscripts whom he could not 'cure' of homosexuality to the surgeons and their knives. That several of these difficult and dangerous operations were botched and others were left uncompleted was not a responsibility laid directly at the door of Levin. Possible knowledge of these ghastly practices most certainly is.

Brian Beaumont, spokesperson for the British Columbia chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, said "Psychiatric sexual assault is a very common occurrence over the world, but all too often the perpetrator is only slapped on the wrist by being given a fine or suspension from practice for these criminal activities". "There has been ample evidence that women are at very great risk of being sexually assaulted while in a psychiatrist's office". "Now even men are at risk", he concluded.

New Video Exposes How Psychiatric Drugs Can Kill Your Child

This riveting video documentary which exposes the field of psychiatry as a money-grubbing industry….

Vancouver, British Columbia -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/09/2010 -- From the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, makers of the award-winning documentaries Making a Killing: The Untold Story of Psychotropic Drugging and The Marketing of Madness: Are We All Insane? comes this searing new documentary, exposing how devastating—and deadly—psychiatric drugs can be for children and families.

Behind the grim statistics of deaths, suicides, birth defects and serious adverse reactions is the human face of this global drugging epidemic—the personal stories of loss and courage of those who paid the real price.

Psychiatrists claim their drugs are safe for children? Once you hear what eight brave mothers, their families, health experts, drug counsellors and doctors have to say instead, you will come away convinced of one thing… Psychiatrists are Dead Wrong.

This riveting video documentary which exposes the field of psychiatry as a money-grubbing industry dedicated to making a profit at the expense of the mental heath of their own patients has been made available on the website of the Vancouver Chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights.

Brian Beaumont, the president of the Vancouver chapter of CCHR said, "There isn't a single aspect of behavior that doesn't fall within the broad 'symptoms' which comprise so-called 'mental illness. We want all people to see, through watching the video, how psychiatry's ability to convince drug companies and governments to pour billions of dollars into its practices is based upon fraudulent 'diagnostic' criteria and how psychiatrists package various behavior and emotional characteristics and falsely categorize these as a 'disease' or 'disorder'".

The DVD reveals how normal active children are forced into taking mind altering and addictive drugs with fatal consequences and how their parents are powerless against the coercive onslaught of falsehoods opinions and the 'chemical imbalance' hoax which is foisted on them as 'fact'.

Psychiatric Sexual Assault a Routine Activity

One psychiatrist engaged in kissing, fondling, masturbation and oral sex with teenage female patient in his office.

Vancouver, British Columbia -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/27/2010 -- According to the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, seven psychiatrists have either been criminally convicted, stripped of their license to practice or severely reprimanded in British Columbia in the past 5 years, mostly for sexually assaulting their patients or for sexual misconduct with patients. One of the psychiatrists was sentenced to 18 months in jail for his criminal activities.

A North Vancouver psychiatrist has been suspended for two years by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. after admitting to having inappropriate relationships with two patients between 2008 and 2010. Dr. Peter Sung-Ho Lim admitted to telephoning and sending text messages of an "inappropriate and personal nature" to one patient and engaging in a sexual relationship with another, the college said.

In an earlier case this year, Dr. Nelken, a psychiatrist admitted to unprofessional conduct with respect to the care of a patient who attended at a MindCare Centre (MindCare) clinic in Toronto for repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) treatment. The treatment for depression is a non-invasive method of brain stimulation in which magnetic fields are used to induce electric currents in the cerebral cortex.

Following the issuance of disciplinary charges, Dr. Anca Ioana Bostinariu, a psychiatrist, has admitted that, given the nature of the psycho-therapeutic relationship, she was guilty of unprofessional conduct in hiring two former patients as employees. A subsequent review of Dr. Bostinariu's practice by the College identified no concerns with respect to her competency or clinical care. Her name has been erased from the Medical Register and transferred to the Temporary Register, effective 2400 hours, March 30, 2007.

The forth most recent psychiatrist to be disciplined was Dr. Carol Elaine Davies. She admitted that she was guilty of unprofessional conduct with respect to her interaction with a former patient who was an inmate with Correctional Services Canada (CSC). In 2003, Dr. Davies provided pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy services in psychiatric clinics at facilities of CSC. Following the termination of such services, Dr. Davies visited the former patient/inmate on frequent occasions over a one year period. Dr. Davies admitted that her conduct involved the creation of a personal relationship with a former patient and that such a relationship was inappropriate and unprofessional given the nature of the prior psychotherapeutic relationship. The College of Physicians and Surgeons ordered (among other things) that Dr. Davies' future professional conduct must be beyond reproach in every respect

Dr. Bacon, a retired Victoria B.C. psychiatrist, admitted that he was guilty of infamous conduct. The disciplinary charges issued by the College were that Dr. Bacon engaged in sexual touching and sexual intercourse with a female patient whom he had treated in the 1990's. Dr. Bacon denied the allegations of sexual intercourse but admitted the sexual touching. Specifically, he admitted that he had the patient sit on his lap in the office, and sexually touch and fondle him.

A child psychiatrist, Dr. Golden, was stripped of his license to practice and was labeled a sexual predator by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia after they found him guilty of sexual relations with three young female patients between 2000 and 2005. The psychiatrist engaged in kissing, fondling, masturbation and oral sex with one female patient in his office. Another patient was asked about her underwear, how often she had sex and if she was a virgin.

In February 2006, Dr. Larry Anderson, a Penticton psychiatrist was sentenced to 18 months in jail for sexually assaulting female patients under his care. The charges involved three former patients with whom he had sexual intercourse in separate relationships from the late 1970s until 1999. According to evidence given during the Anderson trial, the Doctor once put sexual instructions on what a female patient thought was a prescription for anti-depressant drugs. The prescription read: "Take one erection and put it in an appropriate space. Do what is needed to obtain satisfaction".

The fact that a recent Google - search revealed that more than 100 psychiatrists world wide have either been criminally convicted or have lost their license to practice due to sexual relations with patients over the past 2 years, is ample evidence that women are at very great risk of being sexually assaulted while in a psychiatrist's office.

Citizens Group Calls the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders a Fraud

Every psychiatric “expert” involved in writing the DSM standard diagnostic criteria for disorders such as depression and schizophrenia has had financial ties to drug companies that sell medications for those illnesses.

Vancouver, BC -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/03/2010 -- The Citizens Commission on Human Rights has called psychiatry's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders into question naming it a fraud perpetrated on society for the sole purpose of enormously increasing their income base by labeling and drugging individuals, particularly helpless little children, for profit. Furthermore, they are calling this fraudulent labeling and drugging of little children a gross violation of human rights and child abuse.

The American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) is the book that contains names and descriptions of 374 so-called mental disorders (including everything from depression to "caffeine withdrawal disorder"). Doctors, psychiatrists and other medical and mental health practitioners use the DSM to diagnose patients. Each DSM mental disorder description carries a code that clinicians can use to substantiate claims for health insurance reimbursement.

Across Canada, pharmacies last year dispensed 61.2 million prescriptions for psychotherapeutics, worth nearly $2.4 billion.

Some of the most potent, mood-altering drugs are going to children. Between 2005 and 2009, the number of prescriptions for "atypical" or second-generation anti-psychotics for children under 13 more than doubled.

Every psychiatric "expert" involved in writing the DSM standard diagnostic criteria for disorders such as depression and schizophrenia has had financial ties to drug companies that sell medications for those illnesses.

British Columbia psychologist, Dr. Tana Dineen, the author of Manufacturing Victims, a book that debunks the DSM, says "unlike medical diagnoses, DSM disorders are 'voted' into existence by APA members. They can also be removed if they are too much trouble. In 1973, the APA voted—5,584 to 3,810—to cease calling homosexuality a mental disorder after gay activists picketed an APA conference".

The fifth edition of DSM is planned for release in 2013. Since the announcement in 2007 of the individuals chosen to lead each DSM "work group" (groups which concentrate on a single category of disorders, such as depressive disorders), it has been garnering continuous criticism for the widening inclusion of a new series of so-called behavioral addictions to shopping, sex, food, videogames, the Internet and so on. The contention of many is that the DSM's developers are seeking to label all manner of normal emotional reactions or human behavioral quirks as mental disorders—thereby falsely increasing the numbers of "mentally ill" people who would then be prescribed one or more drugs that carry all manner of serious warnings and, of course, substantially increase their income base.

Brian Beaumont, President of the British Columbia chapter of CCHR said "The 'disorders' in the diagnostic manual are invented by psychiatrists and placed in the DSM for the sole purpose of increasing the numbers of diagnosis that can be made, thereby enormously increasing their income base (unearned cash) and the income of their natural allies, the drug companies. The whole process is done intentionally for the pure and simple purpose of labeling and drugging more and more adults and children for more and more profit. No other reason. The ADHD 'diagnosis' (label) has been one of the biggest money makers in psychiatry's whole history of invented disorders and is a 100 percent fraud".

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights is an international psychiatric watchdog group co-founded in 1969 by the Church of Scientology and Dr. Thomas Szasz, Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus, to investigate and expose psychiatric violations of human rights.

The Marketing Of Madness Documentary. An 80 Billion Dollar Psychiatric Drug Industry

Digging deep beneath the corporate veneer, this three-part documentary exposes the truth behind the slick marketing schemes…

Vancouver, BC -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/01/2010 -- "The Marketing of Madness", produced by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights International, depicts the field of psychiatry as a money-grubbing industry dedicated to making a profit at the expense of the mental health of their own patients,

Digging deep beneath the corporate veneer, this three-part documentary exposes the truth behind the slick marketing schemes and scientific deceit that conceal a dangerous and often deadly sales campaign.

Psychotropic drugging is big business. The new documentary is the story of big money–drugs that fuel an 80 billion dollar psychiatric industry, without a single cure. The cost in human terms is even greater. These drugs now kill an estimated 42,000 people every year. And the death count keeps rising. Containing more than 175 interviews with lawyers, mental health experts, the families of victims and the survivors themselves, this riveting documentary rips the mask off psychotropic drugging and exposes a brutal but well-entrenched money-making machine."

In watching the video one will see how normal active children are forced into taking mind altering and addictive drugs with damaging and sometimes fatal consequences with their parents powerless against the coercive onslaught of falsehoods opinions and the "chemical imbalance" hoax which is foisted on them as "fact".

Brian Beaumont, the president of the Vancouver chapter of CCHR said, "They invent the problem. They develop the product. And sell it for billions. Brutally factual, this 90-minute documentary exposes the greatest financial con this planet has ever seen. The facts are hard to believe, but fatal to ignore. "We are very proud of our new documentary and plan many more in the future."

Group Announces New Web Site Domain

The new site allows individuals to view a riveting video documentary, “Making a Killing, the untold story of psychiatric drugging".

Vancouver, BC -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/12/2009 -- A video interview by Dr. Ross can be seen on the new expanding web site of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights of British Columbia. There is also a new video which exposes that all the side effects of antidepressant drugs are documented by the US FDA; including suicidal and homicidal ideation, mania, psychosis, worsening depression, panic attacks, emotional numbing, hallucinations and delusions.

The web site allows individuals to view a riveting video documentary, "Making a Killing: The Untold Story of Psycho tropic Drugging", which exposes the field of psychiatry as a money-grubbing industry dedicated to making a profit at the expense of the mental heath of their own patients.

Brian Beaumont, the president of the Vancouver chapter of CCHR and webmaster said, "We are very proud of our expanding web site with its new adverse reaction search engine and two new videos and other documentaries.

In navigating the site, one can find how normal active children are forced into taking mind altering and addictive drugs with damaging and sometimes fatal consequences and their parents are powerless against the coercive onslaught of falsehoods opinions and the "chemical imbalance" hoax which is foisted on them as."fact". In addition, there are the elderly who are treated with drugs so powerful that it leaves many with permanent physiological damage. Some drug treatments are flanked with the infamous ECT treatments which leave the patients - the ones that survive - with permanent brain and neurological damage.

As a workable alternative, the site has a solutions section where individuals can learn that there are better ways of dealing with life's problems than being falsely labeled and drugged. Thousands of people around the world have recovered from mental disorders and now enjoy the simple pleasures of a drug-free life. Most were told this was impossible.

Minister of Health Asked to Investigate Psychiatry In Suicide Death

The commission has also asked the Minister to not allow any psychiatrists to participate on the task force saying that it would be similar to hiring a fox to guard a hen house.

Vancouver, BC-- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/31/2006 -- The Citizens Commission on Human Rights, a psychiatric watchdog group established by the Church of Scientology, has asked the Minister of Health, The Honorable George Abbott, to instruct a proposed suicide-reduction task force to put the psychiatrist responsible for the care and "treatment" of Ellie Boisvert and psychiatry's "treatment" procedures in general under the microscope.

The commission has also asked the Minister to not allow any psychiatrists to participate on the task force saying that it would be similar to hiring a fox to guard a hen house. Instead, the commission is recommending that members of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, members of the legal profession and lay people comprise the task force.

The task force was recommended as the result of recent coroners inquest conducted by Regional Coroner Rose Stanton. According to evidence brought out at the inquest Ellie Boisvert, 56, left the Eric Martin Pavilion, the psychiatric ward of the Royal Jubilee Hospital, on July 29, 2005, on a four to six-hour pass. Ms.Boisvert didn't return from her pass and was found dead on Aug. 17, 2005, in Layritz Park. Near her body was a suicide note. Ms. Boisvert said in the note that she didn't want to spend one more moment in the "EMP." Nor did she want to continue living as a psychiatric patient growing steadily worse. "It's not life."

Brian Beaumont President of the Vancouver Chapter of CCHR said "Psychiatrist Dr. Donald Milliken's rant at the inquest about Canada not having a national suicide prevention program was obviously a covert way of shifting the blame for Ms. Boisvert's suicide onto a wrong target and thereby taking no responsibility at all for her death. After all, he treated her for 10 years prior to her suicide".

Another fault in the psychiatric industry, according to a study by Lisa Cosgrove, a psychologist from the University of Massachusetts and Sheldon Krimsky, a Tuft University professor, is psychiatry's billing bible itself , the Diagonstic and Satistical Manual of Mental Disorgers (DSM). The study documents how pharmaceutical companies who manufacture drugs for "mental disorders" funded psychiatrists who defined the disorders for the manual. One hundred percent of the "experts" on DSM-IV panels overseeing so-called "mood disorders" (which includes "depression") and "schizophrenia/psychotic disorders" were financially involved with drug companies. These are the largest categories of psychiatric drugs in the world: 2004 sales of $20.3 billion for antidepressants and $14.4 billion for antipsychotic drugs alone.

Anti-Psychotic Drugs Found Just As Lethal As Antidepressant And ADHD Drugs on Kids

Vancouver, BC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/10/2006 -- An extensive article published in USA Today revealed that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recorded 45 child deaths attributed to new anti-psychotic drugs, yet experts say the death toll could easily be as high as 450, as only 1 to 10% of adverse reactions are ever reported to the FDA. Equally alarming is that the number of anti-psychotic drugs prescribed for 2 to 18-year-olds grew from under 500,000 in 1995, to approximately 2.5 million in 2002 — a 400% increase, while sales of anti-psychotic drugs have soared 1,500%, from $500 million in 1991 to more than $8 billion in 2003.

The anti-psychotic drug deaths mark the third major category of lethal psychiatric drugs being prescribed to millions of American children; antidepressants now require the FDA's "black box" warning for causing suicidal reactions in children and teens; an FDA advisory committee has warned that ADHD drugs should carry "black box" warnings for causing strokes, heart attacks and sudden death in children. More than a dozen warnings have been issued internationally on psychiatric drugs causing children and adolescents side effects including liver damage, cardiac failure, strokes, hallucinations, psychosis, mania, violence, suicide and death. Yet these drugs continue to be prescribed to more than 17 million children worldwide.

Brian Beaumont, president of the Vancouver Chapter of the psychiatric watchdog organization, Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), said, "Psychiatrists have created a multi billion-dollar child drugging market that puts profit above children's lives. Psychiatrists fraudulently promote childhood behaviors as "diseases", or "illnesses" requiring the administration of powerful, mind-altering drugs despite the lack of any blood test, brain scan or "chemical imbalance" test that can prove any mental "disorder" is a medical condition".

Psychiatry's financial incentive for pathologizing behaviors and manufacturing "diseases" was disclosed last month in the journal Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, which found 100% of the psychiatrists determining the criteria for so-called "mood disorders" (which includes "bipolar disorder" and "schizophrenia/psychotic disorders") for inclusion in the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) Diagnostic and Statistical of Mental Disorders (DSM) were financially involved with drug companies that manufacture the drugs.

Earlier anti-psychotic drugs caused a fatal toxic reaction called neuroleptic malignant syndrome, killing an estimated 100,000 Americans. It took 20 years before the APA issued a warning letter in 1985 to its members, and then only after several highly publicized lawsuits that "found psychiatrists and their institutions negligent for failing to warn patients of the drug-related risk."

Parents have charged that they have been left at the mercy of psychiatry's misinformation and that children are dying because of it. Ellen Liversidge whose son died in 2002 after falling into a coma from an anti-psychotic drug, states, "There was no warning on the label and no warning from the doctor… Do we need to have so many more people killed? Do we need a whole bunch more newspaper articles? What is it going to take for the FDA to act?"

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights was established by the Church of Scientology in 1969 to investigate and expose psychiatric violations of human rights. It has been the most effective organization in the world in helping enact informed consent laws on the dangers of psychiatric drugs prescribed to millions of unsuspecting men, women and children.

Psychiatry's Diagnostic Manual Exposed For Its Link To A $76 Million Drug Trade

Vancouver, BC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/23/2006 -- The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), a psychiatric watchdog group, said that a study published in this month's journal Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics revealing the incestuous financial relationship between the pharmaceutical industry and the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) "billing bible," The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), is a vindication.

For over a decade the group has called on governments to eliminate the DSM as a valid diagnostic manual for insurance reimbursement, medical plan payments or for the basis of any legislation or court testimony. "It is an unreliable, pseudo-scientific document with enormous power to damage lives, while being used to rake in $76 billion a year in international psychiatric drug sales," CCHR's national U.S. president Bruce Wiseman stated.

The study by Lisa Cosgrove, a psychologist from the University of Massachusetts and Sheldon Krimsky, a Tuft University professor, documents how pharmaceutical companies who manufacture drugs for "mental disorders" funded psychiatrists who defined the disorders for the manual.

British Columbia psychologist, Dr. Tana Dineen, the author of Manufacturing Victims that debunks the DSM, says that unlike medical diagnoses, DSM disorders are "voted" into existence by APA members. They can also be removed if they are too much trouble. In 1973, the APA voted—5,584 to 3,810—to cease calling homosexuality a mental disorder after gay activists picketed an APA conference. The DSM wields enormous power for a document that is so fickly determined and is, as Dr. Cosgrove says a "political process."

The manual is used in decisions to remove a child from the custody of his or her parents, to deprive a person of his or her right to vote in some countries, decide if a defendant is fit to plead "guilty" in a criminal trial or to excuse criminal conduct, and has been used to invalidate a person's will, break legal contracts and override a person's wishes regarding business or property. Schools and Child Protective Services can receive additional funds for a child labeled with a DSM disorder while parents have been forced to administer violent- and suicide-inducing drugs to their children and threatened with criminal charges if they refused—all because the child was said to be "disordered" based on the DSM. New York psychiatrist Ron Leifer says that the way in which psychiatrists diagnose is an "arrogant fraud" and to claim that DSM is a "scientific statement is damaging to the culture."

Dr. Cosgrove also raised crucial points about the lack of science behind the DSM, stating, "No blood tests exist for the disorders in the DSM. It relies on judgments from practitioners who rely on the manual."

The Parental Consent Act, a federal bill introduced into the House of Representatives last year and supported to date by 40 congressmen, seeks to prevent government funding for mental health screening of students based on the DSM because of its lack of scientific validity. House Bill 181 states: "Authors of…the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual admit that the diagnostic criteria for mental illness are vague, saying, 'DSM-IV criteria remain a consensus without clear empirical data supporting the number of items required for the diagnosis. . . . Furthermore, the behavioral characteristics specified in DSM-IV, despite efforts to standardize them, remain subjective…."

Brian Beaumont, President of the Vancouver chapter of CCHR said, " People need to be protected from the risks and human rights violations that can occur because of the DSM, and which are now heightened because of the vested influence of pharmaceutical interests on the decision making process for mental disorders. CCHR, established by the Church of Scientology, has interviewed hundreds of experts about the DSM and psychiatry for its documentaries featured in its Los Angeles museum, "Psychiatry an Industry of Death."
Electro-Shock, A Psychiatric Atrocity, On Rise In British Columbia

Vancouver, BC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/13/2006 -- Over 90 thousand electroshocks have been given to British Columbians by psychiatrists in the past 5 years which is at least 5 times the amount delivered in the previous 5 years and totaling two and a half million taxpayer dollars in their pockets according to Medical Service Plan statistics gathered by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights , a psychiatric watchdog group established by the Church of Scientology.

The number of shocks peaked in the year 2000 when psychiatrists got a pay increase to $70.66 each time they pulled the switch.

Currently, over 18,500 electro-shocks are being given to people by psychiatrists every year in British Columbia alone.

Electro Shock which has skyrocketed is being done weekly on a regular basis in every psychiatric hospital and every general hospital with a psychiatric ward to many individuals three times a week.

1. The patient is injected with an anesthetic to block out pain and a muscle relaxant to shut down muscular activity and prevent spinal fractures.

2. Electrodes are placed on the temples bilaterally (from one side of the brain to the other) or unilaterally (front to back on one side of the brain).

3. A rubber gag is placed in the mouth to keep teeth from breaking or patients from biting their tongues.

4. Between 180 and 480 volts of electricity are sent searing through the brain.

5. To meet the brain's demand for oxygen, blood flow to the brain can increase as much as 400%. Blood pressure can increase 200%. Under normal conditions, the brain uses a blood-brain barrier to keep itself healthy against harmful toxins and foreign substances. With electroshock, harmful substances "leak" from blood vessels into the brain tissue, causing swelling. Nerve cells die. Cellular activity is altered. The physiology of the brain is altered.

6. The results are memory loss, confusion, loss of space and time orientation and even death.

7. Most patients are given a total of six to 12 shocks, one a day, three times a week.

Brian Beaumont, President of the Vancouver chapter of CCHR said, "Ask the foremost psychiatrists and they have no explanation as to why or how their "treatment" works. It is literally as scientific as sticking one's head in a light socket. Do it often enough and you will become disoriented, confused, lose your memory or even die. Same result as ECT—but it will cost you a lot less".

The Blood Of Drug Related Deaths Is On Psychiatry's Hands

Vancouver, BC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 03/07/2006 -- Health Canada and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports on the numbers of possible ADHD drug related deaths and injuries are no where near an accurate description of the mayhem caused by psychiatry's drugs.

The FDA reported that in the four year period between 1999 and 2003, there were twenty-five deaths in persons using Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) drugs, 19 of which were children. Officials also acknowledged that more than 50 cases of cardiovascular problems had been reported, including stoke, heart attack, hypertension, palpitations and arrhythmia.

As an example, on November 20, 1986, after being on Ritalin since the third grade, fourteen-year-old Rod Mathews lured a classmate, Shawn Ouillette, into a wooded area near his home in Canton, Massachusetts, under the pretense of a plan to build a snow fort, and beat him to death with a baseball bat.

Even though he had no prior history of violence, Rod beat Shawn until he died and just left the body in the woods. Rod took 2 friends to see the body, and threatened them with the same fate if they told anyone about the murder.

One prevailing psychiatric theory (key to psychotropic drug and amphetamine type drug sales) is that mental disorders result from a chemical imbalance in the brain. As with this and psychiatry's other theories, there is no biological or other evidence to prove them. Representative of a large group of medical and biochemistry experts, Elliot Valenstein, Ph.D., author of Blaming the Brain says: "There are no tests available for assessing the chemical status of a living person's brain."

Brian Beaumont, President of the Vancouver chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights stated, "The fact is, there is nothing in any medical or scientific literature that confirms the existence of ADHD. It was invented by a handful of psychiatrists by a show of hands at an American Psychiatric Association meeting in the 80's. Thus, psychiatrists are labeling and drugging a non-existent malady which are indictable offences, fraud and child abuse."

On October 9, 1993, 15-year-old Gerard McCra, Jr. shot and killed his mother, Merle, 36, his father, Gerald, 35, and his 11-year-old sister, Melanie, after taking Ritalin for nine years since he was six-years-old.

On the day of the crime, Gerald said his father and sister were about to leave in the family car, and he asked them to wait so that he could go with them. Gerald went back in the house, broke into his grandfather's room, got a loaded gun and shot his mother in the back of the head and then returned to the waiting car, and shot his father and sister in the back of the head as well.

On March 24, 1998 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, 11-year-old Andrew Golden and 14-year-old Mitchell Johnson shot and killed one teacher, four students, and wounded 10 others. According to published reports, the boys were on Ritalin.

Andrew Golden and Mitchell staged a false fire alarm and then began shooting students and teachers as they exited the building. An Arkansas judge found the 2 children guilty of 5 counts of capital murder and 10 counts of battery. The boys received the maximum sentence possible.

On December 1, 1997, 14-year-old Michael Carneal, was on Ritalin, when he started firing a gun during a prayer meeting at a high school in West Paducah, Kentucky, killing Jessica, 17, Kayce, 15, and 14-year-old Nicole, and wounding five other students, including one who is paralyzed.

May 21, 1998: Springfield, Oregon: 15-year-old Kip Kinkel murdered his own parents and then proceeded to school where he opened fire on students in the cafeteria, killing two and wounding 22. Kinkel had been on an antidepressant.

April 16, 1999: Notus, Idaho: 15-year-old Shawn Cooper fired two shotgun rounds in his school narrowly missing students; he was taking a mix of antidepressants.

April 20, 1999: Columbine, Colorado: 18-year-old Eric Harris had been taking an antidepressant when he and his partner Dylan Klebold killed twelve classmates and a teacher before taking his own life in the bloodiest school massacre in history. The coroner confirmed that the antidepressant was in his system through toxicology reports. Dylan Klebold's autopsy was never made public.

April 29 1999: A 14 year old boy shot two classmates, killing one, at W.R. Myers High School in Taber Alberta. He was seeing a psychiatrist who prescribed him Dexadrine just prior to the shooting.

May 20, 1999: Conyers, Georgia: 15-year-old T.J. Solomon was being treated with a mix of antidepressants when he opened fire on and wounded 6 of his classmates.

March 7, 2000: Williamsport, Pennsylvania: 14-year-old Elizabeth Bush was on an antidepressant Prozac when she blasted away at fellow students in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, wounding one.

More Government Inquiries into Psychiatry's Drugs

Vancouver, BC, Canada -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/10/2006 -- In only the past year and a half, 18 government warnings by five different countries including Switzerland, England, Canada, the US and Europe have been issued on the previously undisclosed dangers of psychiatric drugs citing side effects of drug dependence, addiction, mania, hostility, aggression, psychosis, suicide and violence.

The latest inquiry came in the form of an FDA report this week. It stated that 25 deaths from various psychiatric drugs have occurred between 1999 and 2003. Nineteen of them were children. The report also detailed 54 cases of serious cardiovascular problems, including heart attack, stroke, hypertension, palpitations and arrhythmia, in adults and children

The drugs in question were amphetamines such as Adderall, and methylphenidates, sold as Ritalin, Concerta, Methylin and Metadate for children and adults with ADHD. The FDA reports that, right now, about two million American children and one million adults are prescribed ADHD drugs each month.

On September 29 2005, Health Canada asked all the makers of drugs used for ADHD to submit data from all clinical trials and post-marketing reports by the end of 2005. The data will be examined following its submission this year. The drugs that will be reviewed are Concerta, Adderall XR, Dexadrine, Ritalin and Attenade; drugs which are given to children for ADHD.

Brian Beaumont, President of the Vancouver chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights stated, Adderall, methylphenidates (sold as Ritalin), Concerta, Methylin and Metadate are all drugs prescribed for a condition know as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder but the fact is; there is nothing in any medical or scientific literature that confirms the existence of (ADHD). It was invented by a handful of psychiatrists by a show of hands at an American Psychiatric Association meeting in the 80's. Since that time psychiatry has turned it's invention into a multi-billion dollar industry. Thus, psychiatrists are labeling and drugging a non-existent malady which are indictable offences, fraud and child abuse.'

Prozac, another of psychiatry's drugs, also came under fire last week when new information linked it and other similar antidepressants to a life-threatening lung problem in newborns

According to the New England Journal of Medicine, Infants had six times the expected risk of developing the lung disorder which resulted from mothers who took the drugs in the second half of pregnancy.

The psychiatric drugs under scrutiny are selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft.

One prevailing psychiatric theory (key to psychotropic drug and amphetamine type drug sales) is that mental disorders result from a chemical imbalance in the brain. As with this and psychiatry's other theories, there is no biological or other evidence to prove them. Representative of a large group of medical and biochemistry experts, Elliot Valenstein, Ph.D., author of Blaming the Brain says: "There are no tests available for assessing the chemical status of a living person's brain.

"Black Box" Warning Recommended For Psychiatry's ADHD Drugs

Vancouver, BC -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/11/2006 -- On Thursday, February 9, 2006, an advisory committee to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) urged the most serious FDA warning, the "black box", be placed on all drugs prescribed to treat the so-called psychiatric disorder Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The recommendation followed evidence that these drugs are linked to deaths and cardiovascular problems such as heart attacks and strokes.

The FDA's database documents 25 deaths and 54 cases of serious cardiovascular problems in children and adults treated with ADHD drugs.

These cases included heart attack, stroke (sudden loss of brain function), hypertension (high blood pressure), palpitations (rapid, strong heart beats) and arrhythmia (irregular heart beats).

Experts estimate that only 1% to 10% of serious drug reactions are reported to the FDA, so the deaths and serious adverse effects are undoubtedly much higher.

There are six million U.S. children who have been prescribed ADHD drugs including Ritalin, Adderall and Concerta. Government figures show that about 10% of all 10-year-old boys in the U.S. are on these drugs. Prescriptions of ADHD drugs for adults has increased 90% in the last three years.

Brian Beaumont, President of the Vancouver chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights stated, "Adderall, methylphenidates (sold as Ritalin), Concerta, Methylin and Metadate are all drugs prescribed for a condition know as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder but the fact is; there is nothing in any medical or scientific literature that confirms the existence of (ADHD). Thus, psychiatrists are labeling and drugging a non-existent malady which are indictable offences, fraud and child abuse."

The advisory committee's recommendation for the "black box" warning took FDA officials by surprise. The committee's original purpose was only to recommend ways to study the effects of ADHD drugs. However, after reviewing the deadly effects of the drugs, the committee urged immediate action.

Peter Gross, chairman of the advisory committee, stated the reason for the recommended warnings were, "No. 1, because of the seriousness of the side effects – the sudden deaths. No. 2, there is a sense maybe the diagnosis of ADHD is being applied where it shouldn't be applied."

Advisory committee member Dr. Steven Nissen, a cardiologist, explained the urgency, "This is out-of-control use of drugs that have profound cardiovascular consequences. We have got a potential public health crisis. I think patients and families need to be made aware of these concerns."

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights is an international psychiatric watchdog group co-founded in 1969 by the Church of Scientology and Dr. Thomas Szasz, Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, to investigate and expose psychiatric violations of human rights. Scientologists' stand on psychiatry comes from a deep concern about the brutality that is the hallmark of this practice.
Scientologists' stand on psychiatry comes from a deep concern about the brutality that is the hallmark of this practice.
Vancouver, British Columbia -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/22/2005 -- Denouncing the fact that internationally more than 100,000 patients die each year in psychiatric institutions, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights International (CCHR) held the grand opening this weekend of a new museum in Hollywood called Psychiatry: an Industry of Death.

The museum features 14 documentaries with statements from scores of health professionals, academics, legal and human rights experts, and victims of psychiatric brutalities ranging from electroshock and involuntary commitment to political torture, psychosurgery and the devastating effects of psychotropic drugs. The state-of-the-art museum documents that psychiatry is an industry driven entirely by profit, and provides practical guidance for lawmakers, doctors, human rights advocates and private citizens to take action in their own sphere to bring psychiatry under the law.

Community and government leaders were joined by ardent celebrity supporters Lisa Marie Presley, Priscilla Presley, Danny Masterson, Giovanni Ribisi, Leah Remini, Jenna Elfman, Catherine Bell and Marisol Nichols at the grand opening.

Stating that "no adult should be victimized by drugs or treatments that are not cures, and no government should support harm in the guise of help," Martin Whitely, a member of parliament from Western Australia, sounded the call for "all those with common sense and a passion for human rights" to stand behind CCHR to "make the truth about psychiatric abuses widely known and bring about the reforms that are so badly needed."

Joining the Australian lawmaker and the more than 2,300 in attendance were Georgia Senator Nancy Schaefer, American University Professor of Psychology and outspoken human rights advocate Jeffrey Schaler and Liberty Committee Executive Director Kent Snyder.

Jan Eastgate, president of CCHR International stated, "There have been 18 psychiatric drug warnings issued in the last year alone, which link suicide, hostility, worsening depression, mania, hallucinations and death to psychiatric drugs that reap $80 billion dollars a year—an abuse CCHR has persistently exposed for three decades."

Tana Dineen a British Columbia psychologist and author of Manufacturing Victims, says, "Unlike medical diagnoses that convey a probable cause, appropriate treatment and likely prognosis, the disorders listed in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual-IV are terms arrived at through peer consensus"—a vote by American Psychiatric Association committee members. In other words, there is no objective science to them.

Brian Beaumont President of the Vancouver British Columbia Chapter of CCHR said "A staggering 46 thousand electroshocks have been given to British Columbians by psychiatrists in the past 5 years, almost doubling the amount delivered in the previous 5 years and totaling 3,143,536 taxpayer dollars in their pockets. The number of shocks peaked in the year 2000 when psychiatrists got a pay increase to $70.66 each time they pulled the switch, a practice which a Coquitlam, British Columbia woman, says wiped out large segments of her memory".

A sampling of current statistics and facts shown in the new museum include:

Psychiatrists are using electroshock, drugs and other barbaric means to torture political dissidents.

17 million children worldwide are taking psychiatric drugs, which can cause suicide, hostility, violence, mania and drug dependence.

More than 100,000 patients die each year in psychiatric institutions.

Annually, psychiatrists kill up to 10,000 people with their use of electroshock—460 volts of electricity sent searing through the brain. Three-quarters of all electroshock victims are women.

Psychiatrists and psychologists have raped 250,000 women. Studies show that 10 to 25 percent of psychiatrists sexually assault their patients; of every 20 of these victims one is likely to be a minor.

The opening of the new Museum, Psychiatry: an Industry of Death and the expanded facilities of CCHR mark the beginning of a new era of enlightenment on the motivation, history and crimes of psychiatry.
Photos at: www.gettyimages.com > editorials > entertainment > "CA: Church of Scientology's Citizens Commission on Human Rights Museum Opening"
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/13/2005 -- The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR™) today announced the appointment of Zeljka Bosnjak as Research Officer for the Commission's Vancouver office. Bosnjak will be carrying forward CCHR's more than thirty five year tradition of investigating and exposing psychiatric violations of human rights.

To assist residents of British Columbia, a Psychiatric Abuse Line (PAL) has also been established. CCHR documents psychiatric abuse cases and assists them in taking whatever appropriate action is needed to rectify the injustice they were subjected to.

Ms. Bosnjak knows what it is like to live under the thumb of the psychiatric industry and their henchmen. After an ordeal in 2001 when she was forcibly removed from her home, she lived in terror that it would happen again. She was taken from her home, slammed into a psychiatric cell, and forcibly injected with a powerful psychiatric drug. She then had to conform to every wish of a Vancouver mental "health" team.

According to Bosnjak, "Psychiatrists destroy the lives of many citizens and their families through the use of electroshock and powerful mind-altering drugs which have been shown to have dangerous and harmful side effects few people are even aware of."

"While psychiatrists claim that electroshock treatment is 'scientific' and 'therapeutic," it is as sophisticated and beneficial as hitting someone over the head with a sledgehammer. For years mothers have been telling their children not to stick their fingers in electric sockets. Psychiatrists expect you to put your brain in one. Any 5-year-old knows better," she said.

Under the British Columbia Mental Health Act, the police can be ordered to apprehend anyone who in the opinion of another is considered to have a "mental disorder" that impairs their ability (a) to react appropriately to the person's environment, or (b) to associate with others. The person can then be forcibly removed from their home in handcuffs, taken to the nearest psychiatric unit where they can be restrained, possibly given electric-shock and forcibly drugged against their will.

Brian Beaumont, President of CCHR's Vancouver chapter said, "Never have incidents of psychiatric injustice been more evident than in the mental health field where laws have empowered psychiatrists to seize people and, without trial, not only deprive them of their liberty, but commit abusive acts upon them. Committed by anyone else in society, these acts would result in charges of false imprisonment, assault and even rape. People need to know their rights when faced with abuse such as this and CCHR is here to provide that information."

CCHR was established in 1969 by the Church of Scientology and prominent Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus of New York University and author, Dr. Thomas Szasz, when the need for intensive reform of psychiatry became apparent. CCHR has exposed hundreds of unexplained or improper deaths in psychiatric institutions, waste and theft of millions of mental health appropriations, the psychiatric rape of patients and many other abuses.

Anyone with information on abuses by psychiatrists or psychiatric facilities, or adverse reactions to psychiatric drugs is asked to contact CCHR's Psychiatric Abuse Line at 1 800 670 2247 or e-mail humanrights@llightspeed.ca All confidence will be protected.

Woman Abducted From Her Home Under Unconstitutional British Columbia Mental Health Act

Since that time psychiatry has turned it's invention into a multi-billion dollar industry.

Her first incarceration was in October 2001 but the nightmare occurred again in February 2005 when she was once more forcibly removed from her home by the police under the British Columbia Mental Health Act.

On the first occasion she was taken to the University of British Columbia Hospital's psychiatric ward were she was forcibly injected with a powerful psychiatric drug and told she had no rights to refuse the drug. On the second occasion she was taken to St. Paul's hospital and subsequently to UBC Hospital where she was again drugged.

"I was terrified" said Ms. Bosnjak. "I had no idea what was going on". "There were policemen in my house but I had committed no crime." "They told me that they had to take me away." "I was taken to the psychiatric ward at the University of British Columbia Hospital were I was put in a room that had no windows, a mattress on the floor and an open toilet in the corner." "It was like a jail cell". "I was told by a nurse that I would be receiving an injection and when I refused the nurse told me I had no rights to refuse." "Then two very large men came into the room forced me onto the floor so the nurse could Inject me". After the injection my leg became paralyzed." "This was the first time I was removed forcibly from my home". "I found out later that the reason the police took me away is because someone thought I was acting strangely."

"During my February encounter, I was told by the police that the reason they were taking me away was because I had missed a psychiatric appointment." "This time I called a representative of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights who immediately came to my rescue." "Although CCHR did all they could help me keep my basic human rights intact, I was still taken away to St.Paul's Hospital and later to the UBC hospital, where, in spite of my refusals, was again drugged."

"Now, almost a year later, through the help of CCHR, I have it in writing that the psychiatrists and their henchmen will leave me alone to live my life." " I am very interested in doing what I can to make sure this does not happen to anyone else," said Ms. Bosnjak.

"Then two very large men came into the room forced me onto the floor so the nurse could Inject me". After the injection my leg became paralyzed." "This was the first time I was removed forcibly from my home". "I found out later that the reason the police took me away is because someone thought I was acting strangely."

"Now, almost a year later, through the help of CCHR, I have it in writing that the psychiatrists and their henchmen will leave me alone to live my life." " I am very interested in doing what I can to make sure this does not happen to anyone else," said Ms. Bosnjak.

Anderson was found guilty of three counts of indecent or sexual assault involving female patients over several years by a jury trial on July 23, 2005. (Court case # 31377)

According to evidence given during the trial, Dr. Anderson once put sexual instructions onto what a female patient thought was a prescription for anti-depressant drugs. This former female patient told Anderson's B.C. Supreme Court trial that instead of a renewal of a prescription for her continued depression, Anderson handed her something completely unexpected. (The prescription read: Take one erection and put it in an appropriate space. Do what is needed to obtain satisfaction.)

Brian Beaumont, spokesperson for the British Columbia chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), a psychiatric watchdog group said, "Psychiatric sexual assault is a very common occurrence over the world, but all too often the perpetrator is only slapped on the wrist by being given a fine or suspension from practice.

"Over 300 psychiatrists, psychologists and mental health professionals worldwide have been criminally convicted of sex crimes in the last 27 years according to various court documents and media reports gathered worldwide by chapters of CCHR. Hundreds of others have lost their licenses in that same time period. These figures do not take into account women who have been reluctant to file charges or who were unwilling or unable to come forward", Beaumont concluded.

Studies show that between 6% and 13% of psychiatrists and psychologists sexually abuse their patients and, according to one American Journal of Psychiatry study, 80% of psychiatrists reporting sexual contact did so with an average of six patients.

According to a 2001 study, "Sex Between Therapists and Clients," by Kenneth Pope, a former head of the ethics committee for the American Psychological Association, 1 out of 20 clients who had been sexually abused by their therapist was a minor, the average age being 7 for girls and 12 for boys. The youngest child was 3.

Psychiatrists Advised FDA 14 Years Ago Not to Act on Suicide and Homicidal Antidepressant Risks

It was invented by a handful of psychiatrists by a show of hands at an American Psychiatric Association meeting in the 80's. Since that time psychiatry has turned it's invention into a multi-billion dollar industry.

Scientologists' stand on psychiatry comes from a deep concern about the brutality that is the hallmark of this practice.

The opening of the new Museum, Psychiatry: an Industry of Death and the expanded facilities of CCHR mark the beginning of a new era of enlightenment on the motivation, history and crimes of psychiatry.

However, CCHR says the failure to stem the flow of blood rests with a panel of psychiatrists in 1991.

In 1989, CCHR used the Freedom of Information Act to obtain FDA Adverse Reaction Reports on the first Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) marketed. The documents revealed that over 500 deaths had been linked to the drug and that 83 children between the ages of 4 and 18 had attempted suicide. Two children aged 5 had committed suicide and 77 experienced hostility, agitation and intentional injury. CCHR, along with medical experts, presented evidence of homicidal and suicidal drug reactions to the FDA's Psychopharmacological Drugs Advisory Committee in 1991. The panel comprised nine psychiatrists and a psychologist who ignored parents and family members' testimony about the violent and suicidal effects of the drugs.

Bruce Wiseman, CCHR's National President said. "The FDA may be accountable for failing to warn the public, but psychiatrists were their advisors with a vested interest in maintaining a multi billion dollar child drugging industry. Now, in the wake of international controversy over the antidepressant drugs' great risk to children's lives, psychiatrists claim they were unaware of the potential harm to children. This is a lie and they should be held accountable," he stated.

During what CCHR executives call "more than a decade of battling" to obtain the right for people to be fully informed about drug risks, the group filed complaints with FDA officials, The Inspector General of Health and Human Services, Health Canada and the U.S. Attorney General's office, among others. The questionable psychiatric diagnoses for which the SSRI antidepressants were being approved were the underlying concern for CCHR.

CCHR says that labeling children with "depression" and other childhood problems as "mental disorders" has become a cash-cow—a multi billion dollar child drugging industry, fueled by the American Psychiatric Association's billing bible, The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM).

The manual contains 374 mental "disorders," including mathematics, reading and written expression disorders, "oppositional defiant disorder" if a child argues with his parents and "conduct disorder" if he is too rambunctious.

Tana Dineen, Ph.D., author of Manufacturing Victims, says, "Unlike medical diagnoses that convey a probable cause, appropriate treatment and likely prognosis, the disorders listed in DSM-IV are terms arrived at through peer consensus"—a vote by APA committee members. In other words, there is no objective science to them.

Dr. Thomas Szasz, Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse says, "There is no blood or other biological test to ascertain the presence or absence of a mental illness, as there is for most bodily diseases."

Brian Beaumont, President of the Vancouver chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights says, "There is no science to childhood psychiatric disorders. Any child who is so labeled is on a one-way ticket to drug dependence or suicide. As for the children who have committed suicide or died while taking an antidepressant in the last 14 years, their blood is caked on psychiatry's hands. Psychiatrists should be held accountable for both the lack of 'science' behind their diagnostic criteria and for any lethal consequences of their drug practices."

With psychiatrists negating the evidence, the number of children prescribed the drugs has escalated. Children aged 1 to 17 now account for 7% of the antidepressants sold in today's $12 billion a year market. Of the 11 million prescriptions for children in 2002, 2.7 million were for those aged 12 and under.

Political Dissident Released From Chinese Psychiatric Death Camp

It was invented by a handful of psychiatrists by a show of hands at an American Psychiatric Association meeting in the 80's. Since that time psychiatry has turned it's invention into a multi-billion dollar industry.

The opening of the new Museum, Psychiatry: an Industry of Death and the expanded facilities of CCHR mark the beginning of a new era of enlightenment on the motivation, history and crimes of psychiatry.

Vancouver, British Columbia -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/6/2005 -- For years , a Vancouver resident and mother, has lived in terror that she would again be taken from her home against her will, slammed into a psychiatric ward, and forcibly injected with a powerful psychiatric drug unless she conformed to every wish of a Vancouver mental "health" team and continued taking one of psychiatry's mind altering drugs.

Bosnjak.

Through psychiatrists' false diagnoses, stigmatizing labels, easy-seizure commitment laws, brutal, depersonalizing "treatments", thousands of individuals are harmed and denied their inherent human rights which are guaranteed by the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in particular the following precepts.

Article 3: Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

Article 5: No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment.

Of the 11 million prescriptions for children in 2002, 2.7 million were for those aged 12 and under.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights was established by the Church of Scientology in 1969 to expose and eradicate psychiatric violations of human rights.
Vancouver, British Columbia -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/13/2005 -- The release of political prisoner Wang Wanxing after 13 years in a Chinese psychiatric institution exposes another example of psychiatry's long tradition of using governments for its totalitarian purposes. Wanxing was picked up on the eve of the anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown for displaying a banner critical of the Communist Party and, having committed no criminal offense was sent to a psychiatric facility called an ankang where he was electroshocked and drugged. He watched other inmates die in the ankang.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights says the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) and psychiatrists in general falsely claim that the atrocities committed against political prisoners are the result of governments abusing psychiatry. However, psychiatry is not abused, it is a willing accomplice. They create death camps such as the gulags in Russia and psychiatric slave labor camps in South Africa and get paid for assaulting and killing patients. The WPA has an appalling track record of failing to address and discipline its members' ethics. It has ignored and stonewalled reports of psychiatric abuse until such time as external pressure makes it imperative, for its own reputation, to make claims that it has been abused.

Russian historian, Professor Anatoli Prokopenko, was commissioned by President Yeltsin to investigate the plight of Soviet political dissidents.

According to Prokopenko, "When I chronicled a purely historical analysis of the sources of Soviet punitive psychiatry I initially believed that psychiatry was a science. I thought that it was the totalitarian Bolshevist regime that exploited them in its own political interest".

"However, I realized that no matter what regime may be established, it was the psychiatric community that sought to be above the law, intimidating leaders of the states with fictitious statistics on the legions of the mentally ill and the need to control them. The Serbsky Psychiatric Research Institute, psychiatric gulags and the KGB were the basis of punitive psychiatry in the USSR. To this day, Soviet leaders of psychiatry have refused to publicly declare their responsibility in damaging the mental health and liberty of millions of citizens," Prokopenko concluded.

China's psychiatric abuse is not limited to political prisoners. Lobotomies and similar brain operations are reportedly performed on inmates each year. Because there is no science to psychiatry, practitioners have invented "diagnoses" such as "delusions of reform" and "political maniacs" to justify incarceration of the members of the religious group, the Falun Gong and inmates have been punished with "intravenous injections that made their tongues bulge out of their mouths and by extremely painful acupuncture that applied an electric current to the sole of the foot."

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights was established in 1969 by the Church of Scientology to investigate and expose psychiatric violations of human rights and to clean up the field of mental healing.

CCHR's work aligns with the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in particular the following precepts, which psychiatrists violate on a daily basis particularly through the use of the mental heath acts around the world.

Article 3: Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

Article 5: No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Article 7: All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law.

If you been damaged by psychiatric "treatment" please call the Citizens Commission on Human Rights at 1 800 670 2247
Vancouver, British Columbia -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/6/2005 -- The Citizens Commission on Human Rights, a psychiatric watchdog group, claims that there is no difference between the electro-shock given people in the West for "treatment" and the electro-shock given political prisoners such as Wang Waxing a dissident prisoner who has now been freed from one of China's psychiatric jails called the Beijing Ankang Hospitalfor the Criminally Insane. Wang Waxing was forced to watch electric-shock "treatment" being performed on fellow inmates and he himself was forced to take antipsychotic drugs during his 13 year stay.

Ironically, under the British Columbia Mental Health Act, the police can beordered to apprehend anyone who in the opinion of another is considered tohave a "mental disorder" that impairs their ability (a) to react appropriatelyto the person's environment, or (b) to associate with others. The person canthen be forcibly removed from their home in handcuffs, taken to the nearest psychiatric unit where they can be restrained, possibly given electric-shock and forcibly drugged against their will. No different than the torturous treatment that happens to political dissenters in other countries in the East.

A staggering 46 thousand electroshocks have been given to British Columbians by psychiatrists in the past 5 years, almost doubling the amount delivered in the previous 5 years and totaling 3,143,536 taxpayer dollars in their pockets. The number of shocks peaked in the year 2000 when psychiatrists got a pay increase to $70.66 each time they pulled the switch.

Currently, According to Medical Services Plan, over 10,000 electro-shocks are being given to people by psychiatrists every year in British Columbia alone.

Brian Beaumont, President of the Vancouver chapter of CCHR said, "Psychiatrists in this country try to persuade the population into believing that electro-shock is not the bone-crunching procedure used as torture in other countries and that the movie 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' is not a true depiction of normal psychiatric hospitals in the western countries. But the truth is electro-shock produces the effect, in any country, of hitting someone on the head with a sledge hammer and psychiatric wards are often worse than depicted in 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'. Electric shock creates memory loss and irreparable brain damage and is now being used in every psychiatric hospital and general hospital with a psychiatric ward in British Columbia".

Through psychiatrists' false diagnoses, stigmatizing labels, easy-seizure commitment laws, brutal, depersonalizing "treatments," thousands of individuals are harmed and denied their inherent human rights.
