Miranda Thomas Presents Gilded Bowl to London's Royal Automobile Club

Renowned potter Miranda Thomas (commissioned by Bill Clinton, United Nations, and more) presented a gilded commemorative bowl to London's prestigious Royal Automobile Club last week for the club's Centenary celebrations at Pall Mall.

Bridgewater, VT -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/18/2011 -- On March 29, 2011, local renowned potter Miranda Thomas presented a large inscribed and gilded bowl to London's Royal Automobile Club at Pall Mall, London, UK.

Thomas was commissioned to create the bowl for the RAC's Centenary celebration of their Clubhouse in Pall Mall. The bowl was presented in person by Miranda Thomas and her mother, Ann Thomas (also of Woodstock), whose father, architect Arthur J. Davis, designed the Clubhouse in 1910, along with the club's extended location at Woodcote Park in Surrey, UK. Davis, along with his partner Charles Mewes, was one of London's major architects of the time, designing the Ritz Hotel, the RMS Queen Mary and RMS Aquitania (of the Queen's Cunard Line), One Aldwych, and numerous private residences. Davis' swimming pool at the RAC Club is known as one of the finest worldwide.

The Royal Automobile Club is one of London's premier private clubs. Started in 1897 and given its official status by King Edward II in 1907, the club originally began as an organization for motorists, but has now expanded to include a wide variety of purposes and members. It is known for its luxurious locations, the premier being the Pall Mall Clubhouse, for which the bowl honors 100 years in service.

The bowl was presented to the club's managing director, Sue Brownson OBE, last week. It will be featured in the official Centenary celebration on April 12, 2011, attended by HRH Prince Michael of Kent and HRH The Royal Princess Anne.
About ShackletonThomas
ShackletonThomas is a Vermont based company located in a 180-year-old mill that specializes in making fine handmade furniture, pottery and accessories. In an age where speed is prized over quality and character, where age-old artistic and craft traditions have been compromised by mass automation, ShackletonThomas has remained true to its roots - authenticity of product and process. We are one of the few remaining companies of our size in the United States that still manufactures products one by one using extensive handwork. ShackletonThomas employs a dedicated group of people who share a special devotion to their craft and the love of making beautiful, everyday objects of art that endure for generations. Each piece of furniture and pottery has been designed and made to reflect the philosophy that extensive handwork creates a product that "has soul and life."
