Emergency Preparedness at Singapore's Newest Mice Venue Max Atria @ Singapore Expo Hosted Successful Ground Deployment Exercise

Singapore -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/29/2012 -- Singex Venues Pte Ltd is pleased to announce the successful completion of the joint Ground Deployment Exercise (GDX) by Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) at Singapore's largest purpose-built event venue, Singapore EXPO Convention & Exhibition Centre, last Tuesday, 20 March. The GDX, which was held at EXPO's new convention wing, MAX Atria, involved SPF and SCDF officers plus 50 observers from the Bedok Police Division Safety & Security Watch Group (SSWG).

Said Mr Aloysius Arlando, Chief Executive Officer of Singex, "Singex is honoured to have been part of SPF and SCDF's emergency exercise at our new convention wing, MAX Atria. We host six million visitors, including celebrities and foreign dignitaries, at some 600 business and consumer events on average each year at the Singapore EXPO. Hence, we take safety and security measures seriously. As an active SSWG member since 2006, Singex valued the GDX as an excellent opportunity to test and validate its contingency measures and disaster-readiness with the emergency forces should a crisis situation occur at EXPO and MAX Atria."

Said Mr How Kwang Hwee, Commander, Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of SPF, "Taking a community approach to safety and security, Singex has, over the years, worked closely with SPF and other SSWG members to develop up-to-date response protocols and security measures. With its security personnel trained as part of Project Guardian and its management team designated to be part of the Corporate First Responder Scheme (CFRS), SPF is certain that Singex will continue to be an integral member of SSWG and play its part in national security." For more information on the GDX, please refer to the Appendix 1.

A worry-free event experience for all
EXPO measures over 123,000sqm, and given the volume of event and human traffic at EXPO each year, it is crucial for Singex to be prepared for service disruption scenarios to minimise impact on internal and external stakeholders. Recognising the importance of contingency planning, Singex embarked on a certification process for business continuity management (BCM) in 2010. After months of intensive preparation and tests, Singex was awarded both the British and Singapore Standards in 2011, making EXPO the first convention centre in Asia to be managed by a dually certified company.

Mr Arlando elaborated, "With the opening of MAX Atria, it is ever more important for us to test the resilience of our business continuity plan to give confidence and assurance to our clients, partners, visitors, and members of the public. As Singapore continues to be the destination of choice for business and special events, Singex seeks to fortify the event industry value chain by enhancing its critical business processes with its strategic partners as well as public agencies."

Appendix 1

Brief Scenario of the Ground Deployment Exercise at MAX Atria @ Singapore EXPO on Tuesday, 20 March 2012

1. 200 participants were attending a forum at MAX Atria @ Singapore EXPO. Unknown to them, two terrorists are planning to sabotage the event. A car bomb has been planted at EXPO's Carpark E and it would be detonated when the forum ended and participants left in their vehicles.

2. An alert security officer at EXPO was patrolling the carpark when he detected the suspicious looking vehicle and immediately reported the finding to the Singex Operations team. Upon seeing this, one of the terrorist detonated the bomb, killing the security officer and injuring a bystander.

3. Immediately, the SSWG alerted the authorities and concurrently provided assistance to the injured while evacuating other participants. The SSWG also informed all fellow members within their cluster about the incident, who then activated their respective Project Guardian elements to secure their areas and provide assistance to the members where required.

4. SPF and SCDF officers who arrived promptly at scene started to affect a cordon, evacuate participants and render medical aid to the injured. At the same time, the bystander who was injured by the car bomb earlier pointed out the two terrorists he had seen behaving suspiciously around the exploded car.

5. When the officers moved in to conduct a check on them, the terrorists suddenly drew out firearms and opened fire at will, before making a run towards the indoor atrium stairwell linking up to the second floor of MAX Atria. Measures were put up by the emergency forces to contain the terrorists within the stairwell while rescue operations continued.

6. The terrorists made a desperate bid to escape but a team of SPF Special Operations Command forces promptly moved in to neutralise the threat.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Natalie Leung
Singapore Expo
Telephone: (65) 6403 2160
Email: Click to Email Natalie Leung
Web: http://www.singaporeexpo.com.sg

Max Atria at Singapore Expo Opens – Singapore's First Green Mark Platinum Award Venue and Asia's First Venue With Complimentary, Patented Wi-fi

Singapore -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/28/2012 -- Managed by Singex Venues Pte Ltd, MAX Atria at Singapore EXPO welcomes organisers and delegates with a new, redefined convention experience. Benchmarked as the first purpose-built MICE venue in Singapore to attain the Building and Construction Authority's (BCA) Green Mark Platinum award, MAX Atria is also the first venue in Asia to roll out complimentary, high performance Wi-Fi patented by Xirrus.

Developed at a cost of S$55 million, MAX Atria features 32 column-free rooms with spacious foyers, a garden courtyard and rooftop space. The 12,700sqm convention wing accommodates over 3,500 people in a variety of versatile spaces configured for meetings, conferences, banquets, light exhibitions and product launches.

Throughout the venue, natural light complemented by verdant landscaping, architecture and interiors appointed with green initiatives transform the event space and experience. Incorporated in the construction stage, energy efficient measures have been implemented in lifts, escalators and air-conditioning systems. Additionally, light sensors installed in the pre-function foyers, staircases and restrooms, LED light fixtures in meeting rooms and landscaping will contribute more than 30 percent of energy savings every year compared to a conventionally designed building of the same size. Besides these energy saving measures, MAX Atria is extensively outfitted with Green Label certified products and products with at least 30 percent recycled material.

For an exceptional Wi-Fi experience, organisers and delegates connected to the patented high performance Xirrus Arrays will enjoy complimentary and seamless connectivity up to a bandwidth of 2mbps. Depending on the number of events and visitors, the Xirrus Arrays can be scaled up accordingly to accommodate a larger capacity and bandwidth. The energy-efficient Xirrus Arrays require fewer access points and less cabling to be installed, contributing to the venue's sustainability efforts.

"In our capacity as a venue manager, it is incumbent upon us to partner with our clients to create sustainable and impactful event experiences. Enabling onsite organisers and delegates to stay connected and multi-task seamlessly is the new norm, hence, we are pleased to offer complimentary and high performance Wi-Fi access", said Singex Group Chief Executive Officer Aloysius Arlando. "The opening of MAX Atria caters to a growing trend of integrated event platforms, be they co-located exhibitions, conferences, symposia, workshops or product launches. This customisation allows organisers not only to enjoy versatile options in personalising the event experience, but to maximise their return on investment (ROI)".

Recently appointed as the resident caterer at MAX Atria, TungLok's culinary team will serve guests attending corporate luncheons, gala dinners or banquets signature dishes and innovative creations from their award-winning Chinese and fusion menus. Mr. Arlando continued, "Our partnership with TungLok is complementary as they share our commitment to enrich our visitors' experience through an exceptional culinary selection".

Vincent Phang, senior vice president of TungLok, said, "With MAX Atria set to become one of the region's leading event venues, we are pleased to be given a platform to showcase our culinary and catering services. Be it a board meeting lunch or a banquet for 800 guests, we will strive to create excellent dining experiences in Singapore's newest convention centre setting".

Supported by the operational and service excellence of Singapore EXPO, a unique visitor experience through a customised scentscape and soundscape invigorates the experience. Designed to bring nature into the venue, the combination of bergamot, white rose and cardamom infuses the air with a refreshing scent. For the soundscape, distinct tempos and musical styles differentiate the experience from a morning conference to an afternoon meeting or an evening banquet.

Opening package rates and accompanying benefits are available for half-day or full-day meetings. Full-day meeting packages start from S$66 and enquiries can be made by contacting sales@maxatria.com.sg For couples looking to tie the knot, the introductory rate for an eight-course banquet starts from S$918 per table, inclusive of a complimentary bottle of wine for a minimum booking of 25 tables. Banquet enquiries can be made through events@maxatria.com.sg

Singex & Fiera Milano to Collaborate As Partners

Leading MICE Organisers Join Forces to Develop New To Market Events

Singapore -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/19/2012 -- Singex signed a joint venture agreement with leading European exhibition organiser Fiera Milano in Singapore today. This joint venture will see the development of more global events in Asia as the two leading exhibition and conference organisers join forces. The collaboration between Singex and Fiera Milano is part of Singex's continuing strategy to create and own turnkey events in the global MICE arena.

The first show to emerge from the partnership will take place in early 2013. Named RehabTech Asia, this inaugural edition of Asia's first assistive technology, integrated care and rehabilitation engineering event is expected attract much interest and attention from industry players from Asia, Europe and South America. "Singex is committed to the development of impactful international business events, and as such, we see a very strong synergy between Fiera Milano and Singex. Through this alliance, we intend to bridge Europe and South America with Asia, and launch new-to-market events such as RehabTech Asia – the first of more to come. Leveraging off each other's strengths and MICE expertise, we are confident that this joint venture will establish itself quickly as a leader within the Asian MICE industry." said Mr Aloysius Arlando, Chief Executive Officer of Singex.

Fiera Milano S.p.A., a leading trade fair organiser in Italy and one of the largest in the world, owns an impressive portfolio of professional shows in key trade sectors. Fiera Milano is now looking to make significant inroads into the Asian MICE industry. Mr Enrico Pazalli, its Chief Executive Officer, said, "We see Asia as the next big MICE market, with Singapore at the heart of all the action. As the Asian consumer becomes increasingly sophisticated, interesting business and consumer events are also in demand. For our venture into Asia, we choose to partner with Singex because of their experience in event and venue management as well as their understanding of the region. Singex's strong Asian business and government contacts, as well as affiliations with leading international trade associations and organisations, make it an ideal partner for Fiera Milano's foray into Southeast Asia and beyond."

Asia is forecasted to become an important engine of growth in the future even as it leads the world out of the worst recession in over half a century. The region's share of world growth is likely to increase, enhancing Asia's role as an economic powerhouse over the next few decades.

Leveraging its extensive global trade and communications network, strong knowledge-based industries, and quality MICE infrastructure, Singapore is well-poised to maintain its position as the business city of choice for event organisers. The city was named "Best Business City in Southeast Asia" in the 2011 Business Traveller Asia-Pacific Travel Awards and voted "Asia's Best City for Business Events" in the 2010 CEI Asia Industry Awards. The winning combination of Fiera Milano, a well-established full service organiser, and Singex, with its proven track record in developing successful exhibitions and conferences in Asia, is thus expected to be a timely addition to Asia's burgeoning MICE industry.

Jeannie Lim, Singapore Tourism Board's Executive Director, Exhibitions & Conferences and Conventions & Meetings, said, "We are very pleased to witness this successful collaboration between Singex and Fiera Milano, and look forward to its contribution to Singapore's vibrant MICE landscape. As Asia's leading business city with a dynamic MICE industry, Singapore provides wide-ranging opportunities for the formation of synergistic industry partnerships to create and develop top-quality business events."

Echoing similar sentiments, the Italian trade commissioner to Singapore, Dr Massimiliano P. Sponzilli, is strongly supportive of this partnership. He stated, "Despite the global crisis, businesses in Italy are still looking for new markets for expansion, especially in South East Asia. In this respect Singapore plays an important role, being regarded as the center of the region and its robust economy. It is therefore not surprising that Fiera Milano, in partnership with Singex, decides to bring Reatech to Singapore. The Italian Trade Commission fully supports such a worthwhile endeavour and looks forward to participate in this new initiative to support Italian companies and organisations looking to establish presence in this region.
Asia's 1st Assistive Tech Integrated Care & Rehab Engineering Event Launched in Singapore

RehabTech Asia aims to improve quality of life for the disabled and aged

Singapore -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/19/2012 -- Asia's first and only trade event for the assistive technology (AT), integrated care and rehabilitation engineering (RE) industry was launched today by co-organisers, Fiera Milano S.p.A. and Singex Exhibition Ventures Pte Ltd. Supported by Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau, RehabTech Asia, comprising a trade exhibition, a conference, a hosted buyer programme, and business forums, will be held from 27 February to 1 March 2013 at Singapore EXPO Convention & Exhibition Centre.

RehabTech Asia comes at a time when there is growing interest in self-determined living and long-term healthcare, as Asia continues to age rapidly, with the numbers expected to grow to some 857 million by the year 20501. Technological advancement also means that there are now more opportunities for personal growth, employment and overall better quality of life for the disabled community. RehabTech Asia is therefore both strategic and timely, and will feature the latest findings and newest innovations in AT, integrated care and RE.

Said Mr Chandran Nair, General Manager (Project Management), Singex, "Across Asia, there have been increased application of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and legislative changes to laws affecting people with disabilities in Asia. With the AT and RE industry being of such high potential, RehabTech Asia will offer a single dedicated platform for all stakeholders in the regional AT, integrated care and RE arenas to gather to exchange knowledge and network. They will also be able to conduct meaningful discussions to maximise the health and well-being of people with disabilities, care requirements and chronic conditions through cutting-edge technology."

Fiera Milano has been organising ReaTech Brasil through its subsidiary since 1999 and ReaTech Italia directly starting 2012. Said Ms Ilaria Cicero, Head of Legal Department of Fiera Milano and member of Board of Directors for its Indian and Russian subsidiaries, "In 2010, the market for assistive devices in the EU had an estimated annual value of €30 billion. We anticipate the same trend in Asia, as the population of Asia continues greying and the spotlight shifts to the needs of people with disabilities and their caregivers. We are confident of the business potential of Southeast Asia and beyond, and that RehabTech Asia will be a strong addition to the well-established ReaTech tradeshow circuit in Europe and South America."

Said Mr Jerry Weisman, President of Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA), a Supporting Organisation of RehabTech Asia, "Technology holds a great deal of promise. It can enable people with disabilities and the aging population to live independent and fulfilling lives. RESNA welcomes the opportunity to partner with RehabTech Asia to encourage networking among international stakeholders to share and exchange information and ideas. "

Other Supporting Organisations so far are Hong Kong Physiotherapy Association, Indonesian Occupational Therapy Association, Physical Therapy Association of ROC (Taiwan), Physical Therapy Research Foundation, Pakistan, and Singapore Physiotherapy Association.

At the same time, 55 academics, clinician and practitioners from around the world have joined the International Advisory Committee so far. The Committee members will provide guidance towards the planning of a comprehensive and stimulating Conference programme. Dr Ng Yee Sien, Head and Senior Consultant, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Singapore General Hospital (SGH), who also spoke at the launch event, said, "Rehabilitation and integrated care are critical components in the continuum of treatment of many disabling diseases and injuries. The demand for rehabilitation has been rising exponentially in Asia in recent years, and SGH aims to optimise functional outcomes and reduce the tremendous burden of disability for patients across the region, leveraging on technology developments to reach these goals. At the RehabTech Asia conference, healthcare professionals from various disciplines will be able to share their knowledge, and such interactions will contribute to the nurturing of a holistic rehabilitation environment in Asia."

A growing demand for AT and RE solutions in Asia

Singapore is leading the way as the premier medical hub in Asia, having successfully integrated infrastructure, technology and research. Said Ms Samantha Su, Director, Services & Biomedical, SPRING Singapore, a Strategic Partner of RehabTech Asia, "Singapore's vibrant environment has nurtured many healthcare and medical technology SMEs to constantly challenge existing techniques, developing products that are clinician-driven to ensure relevant and effective innovations. Today, our SMEs, including those in the assistive and rehabilitation segments, are fast gaining global recognition and making inroads internationally with innovative services and solutions."

Excelpoint is one such company that SPRING has been working with through its Clinician Driven Innovation (CDI) Initiative. Said Mr Albert Phuay, its Group Chief Executive Officer, "SPRING's CDI has linked healthcare service providers with medtech partners like us to develop effective, tested innovations that will meet the real-world needs of patients in the region. RehabTech Asia is certainly a much-welcomed springboard for us to showcase our telehealth and monitoring devices to clinicians and end-users from the region, who look towards Singapore for quality integrated care solutions."

International AT and RE companies are also keen to secure a share of the AT and RE pie in Asia. Shared Mr Daryl Lim, Business Manager, Otto Bock South East Asia Co. Ltd, "With a strong commitment to restoring patient mobility and protecting the functions they have retained, we are keenly considering our participation in RehabTech Asia. We see the potential of this event as a strategic platform for us to reach out to more stakeholders in the rehabilitation sector in Southeast Asia, where the demand for assistive technology, prostheses, orthoses and mobility solutions is growing steadily."

Remarked Mr Zen Koh, General Manager, Hocoma Singapore, "The integration of advanced robotics and rehabilitation has unlocked new possibilities for neurological patients, such as those with stroke, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, cerebral palsy, and multiple sclerosis. Against a backdrop of greater awareness of early rehabilitation, functional training, independent living, and long-term healthcare in Asia, especially in countries like Singapore, Hocoma believes that RehabTech Asia will provide a conducive platform for key relevant stakeholders to discuss trends and exchange ideas in rehabilitation, with the aim of driving innovation and serving the needs of the disabled community."

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Natalie Leung
Marketing Communications Manager
Singex Venues Pte Ltd
Telephone: (65) 6403 2160
Email: Click to Email Natalie Leung
Web: http://www.singex.com.sg

Facebook ranked as the top social network in Singapore with a whopping 72.1% of its web population actively engaging in social networking activities.

Eddie Chau, Chairman of Singapore infocomm Technology Federation, the organiser of SITEX, agrees in tapping into the power of social media to engage and connect with the marketplace.

He says" Social media platforms provide a unique opportunity for organisers to take on a more active approach in how it communicates up to the minute show information to its audience, something traditional advertising vehicles such as print advertising or television commercials are unable to achieve. It also allows information-sharing, where visitors and exhibitors can openly discuss and share information on show offers and product experiences."

Digital Rendition of Qing Ming Shang He Tu to Be Shown in Singapore

Animated Chinese masterpiece debuts outside Greater China

Singapore -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/08/2011 -- At last year's Shanghai World Expo, the biggest attraction in the China Pavilion was a giant digitally animated reproduction of Qing Ming Shang He Tu (?????), a well-loved and revered painting from the Song Dynasty.

The panoramic 120m by 6m work used technology to make the painting come alive. Characters walked and talked across the tableau as visitors followed their moves. Some nine million visitors saw the painting, which received rave reviews in the media for its originality. It was the undisputed hit of the China Pavilion.

Singaporeans will now be able to experience this historic work of art when it makes its debut outside Greater China at Singapore EXPO Convention and Exhibition Centre Hall 3 from Dec 7, 2011 to Feb 6, 2012. An immersive and total cultural experience, it is expected to draw some 800,000 visitors over the festive period, both locally and from the region. To date, this unique digital art piece has been seen by more than 10 million people. After its debut at the Shanghai World Expo, the work travelled to Hong Kong, Macau and Taipei where it was shown to capacity crowds, with some people having to be turned away. Many of the sessions were even sold out in advance, due to pent-up demand and buzz created at the Shanghai World Expo.

The landmark animated Chinese painting is brought to Singapore by Singapore Huading, a China-Singapore business liaison and consultancy firm, and Singex, a business event organiser and venue manager of Singapore EXPO.

Mr Edmund Chua, Managing Director of Singapore Huading, says: "We are very pleased to be the first country outside Greater China to show this iconic work of art. It is a testimony of our cordial relationship between Singapore and China and also a rare privilege for Singaporeans to be able to witness for themselves the magnificence of the original work brought to vivid life by modern technology. We hope this moving masterpiece will make the learning and appreciation of Chinese culture enjoyable and engaging."

Mr Aloysius Arlando, Chief Executive Officer of Singex, adds: "It is an achievement for Singapore to have secured the rights to show this cutting-edge art technology during the peak Christmas and Chinese New Year periods. Having been inspired by how the Chinese masterpiece has come alive with this technology, Singex is proud to be able to share the experience with Singaporeans. The show at Singapore EXPO promises to capture the imagination of all visitors by immersing them into a brilliant world of colour, light and movement."

The original painting of Qing Ming Shang He Tu, by acclaimed Song Dynasty artist Zhang Zeduan, was created in the 11th century. Revered through the ages as "The Chinese Mona Lisa,'' the 5.28m long scroll depicts riverside activities in the city of Kaifeng and is a Chinese national treasure which is now kept in the vaults of Beijing's Palace Museum. The creators of the digital version of Qing Ming Shang He Tu, which is 30 times larger than the original, are Crystal CG Shanghai, one of China's leading companies in digital technology. They took almost two years to complete the project.

Crystal CG Shanghai's director, Yu Zheng, says: "It was a mind-blowing experience to re-create this work of art, which every Chinese person is familiar with. My team and I felt enormous pressure to make sure we could do justice to the original. In the end, we are very proud of the final product as it brings a whole new dimension to appreciating the original. It also makes the artwork relevant to a new generation of younger tech-savvy audiences."

Public ticket sales information and more details about A Moving Masterpiece: The Song Dynasty As Living Art will be revealed at our official media conference in late September 2011.

WMRAS & NEA Launched Inaugural Solid Waste Management Event in Asia

Singapore -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/05/2011 -- Waste Management and Recycling Association of Singapore (WMRAS) and National Environment Agency (NEA) launched a brand new trade event, WasteMET Asia, an exhibition and conference in solid waste management and environmental technology. Co-located with Singapore International Water Week and World Cities Summit in July 2012, the inaugural event is proud to have International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) as a strategic partner. WasteMET Asia is also supported by Economic Development Board, International Enterprise Singapore, JTC Corporation, Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau, and SPRING Singapore.

The launch took place at Singapore's 2011 symposium on waste management, jointly organised by WMRAS and NEA, and supported by ISWA and Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), which was attended by ISWA Chairman, Mr Jeff Cooper; ISWA Board Member and of ISWA Working Group on Energy Recovery Vice-Chair, Mr Jorgen Haukohl; President of National Solid Waste Association of India, Dr Amiya Kumar Sahu; the Mayor of Yogyakarta, MR Herry Zudianto; NEA Chief Executive Officer, Mr Andrew Tan; and WMRAS Chairman, Mr Guah Eng Hock.

A platform for knowledge exchange, a springboard for business

WasteMET Asia comes at a time when challenges such as environmental degradation, resource recovery, transformation of waste into energy as well as minimisation of waste entering landfills are becoming more pertinent than ever in Asia. According to a report by the World Bank, by 2025, governments will have to spend an estimated US$50 billion to manage 1.8 million tonnes of solid waste per year in just the urban areas of Asia alone. Against this backdrop, WasteMET Asia will address the theme of "East Meets Waste – Solid Waste Management Solutions for A Growing Asia", which spotlights on the various issues and opportunities in the solid waste management sector in Asia, home to the world's fastest growing cities.

With an aim to bring together both the private and public sectors to ensure sustainable solid waste management systems and develop more resource recovery solutions, WasteMET Asia will feature a trade exhibition at which manufacturers and solution providers will showcase their latest innovative equipment and technologies. At the same time, industry experts and market leaders will discuss best practices and trends at a thought leadership summit and various technical conferences. Delegates can also look forward to business exchange sessions, networking functions and technical visits, where they can gain more insight into the expanding solid waste management industry.

Mr Guah said, "WasteMET Asia will be a major event that will bring together market leaders and industry practitioners in Asia and around the world. It will provide the opportunity for the waste management and recycling communities to network and keep abreast of latest developments from both business and technical perspectives. This is definitely one event that anyone involved in waste management or recycling should not miss."

Mr Tan added, "WasteMET Asia aims to offer a strategic platform for networking with top government and industry leaders, as well as senior policy makers globally and regionally in this sector. This opens the gateway to possible new market ventures and opportunities, making WasteMET Asia the international marketplace for clean environment leaders, waste management and recycling solution providers and buyers to exchange knowledge and contacts. NEA is pleased to partner WMRAS to bring this exciting event to the global waste management and recycling industry."

WasteMET Asia 2012, to be held from 2 to 5 July at Sands Expo and Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, is managed by Singex Exhibition Ventures Pte Ltd. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed today at a ceremony held at the Singapore EXPO Convention and Exhibition Centre, will provide internship stints throughout the year to supplement and enhance the training of ITE students in the areas of event and venue management, audio visual technology, customer service, and related business operation services.

The ceremony was followed by a half-day programme facilitated by ITE students for their fellow course mates, collectively branded as MICE Day.

Responsible corporate citizenship
With this partnership, Singex will provide hands-on, practical and valuable training to support youth development for the wider MICE industry. Singex and ITE will endeavour to facilitate the transfer and exchange of expertise and experience as well as share resources at appropriate events and platforms such as career fairs, graduation ceremonies, and MICE industry events.

Apart from providing industry attachment opportunities, Singex is also dedicated to helping the students through the presentation of annual book prizes and bursaries to outstanding ITE students. Singex will also sponsor the Course Medal for the top three ITE Higher Nitec in Business Studies (Event Management) graduates in their class, starting from 2013.

Mr Aloysius Arlando, Singex Chief Executive Officer, says, "We are pleased to have signed our first educational MoU with ITE. Both Singex and ITE share a common ethos of enhancing Singapore's overall workforce competitiveness. ITE's mission mirrors our corporate commitment to elevating operational excellence through the nurturing of human capital. Together, we seek to arm ITE students with valuable skills in event delivery to ensure a memorable and rewarding business event experience where the customer is delighted. Some 600 events are held at EXPO each year, so we are certain these students will benefit greatly from EXPO as their extended campus for practical training."

Enhancing the MICE talent pool
Mr Bruce Poh, Director and Chief Executive Officer of ITE, says, "ITE's partnership with Singex underscores our 'Hands-on, Minds-on and Hearts-on' approach in education and we are confident that the real-world opportunities at EXPO will be an eye-opener for our students. With Singex being at the forefront of event and venue management in Asia, this collaboration will certainly ensure that our students are both market- and future-ready upon graduation, enabling them to gain crucial life traits such as discipline, self-learning, self-motivation, community bonding, and social cohesion, on top of the requisite skills to excel in the events industry."

With Singapore poised to continue as Asia's preferred MICE hub, there is a need for a growing pool of talented individuals to ensure the sustainable growth of the MICE industry. In 2009, Singapore attracted 2.6 million business travellers, accounting for 27 per cent of all visitors, and spending about S$4.2 billion (33 per cent of total tourist receipts).

These numbers will continue to grow in tandem with the strong economy, where competition in the MICE industry is both intense and intensifying. Against this backdrop, talent movements across the board are expected and this may lead to a shortage of skills.

Adds Mr Arlando,"This scarcity resonates ever more soundly for MICE, as we are essentially competing for a similar pool of talent that our counterparts in the hospitality and service sectors are. Through progressive human resource initiatives, we want to contribute to ensuring a steady stream of talent with globally competitive skills that can support and drive the MICE industry at large in the years ahead. At Singex, we pride ourselves in operational excellence. Part of that entails enhancing human capital, not just through acquisition but also grooming talent from young so as to benefit the entire MICE value chain in time to come."

MAX Atria @ Singapore EXPO Wins BCA Green Mark Platinum Award

Singapore -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/20/2011 -- Singapore EXPO's new convention wing, MAX Atria, has become the first Meetings, Incentives, Convention, Exhibition (MICE) venue in Singapore to receive the prestigious Building and Construction Authority Green Mark Platinum Award. This reaffirms Singex's commitment and continuous drive towards operational and service excellence for organisers and visitors.

Endorsed by the World Green Building Council, the Platinum standard is the highest rating awarded under the Green Mark scheme to recognise outstanding achievements in environmentally sustainable building practices and innovative green features.

MAX Atria is designed to provide organisers and delegates with a new experience in convention venues, where discussions and negotiations can be held in a refreshing space. These elements are brought out through the introduction of lush green belts and natural light, addressing both sustainability and comfort of visitors to the convention centre.

A key design element in the concept of bringing "nature inside" and "meetings outside" is the central air well in MAX Atria. Both a functional and attractive architectural element, it allows natural light and greenery to be integrated into the meeting rooms adjacent to the air well. Pre-function foyers in MAX Atria also rely on natural light, where sensors are installed to turn lights off when the light level is sufficient in the building. Energy-saving LED light fixtures are utilised in all meeting rooms, pre-function foyers, and external landscape areas for general illumination, while light switches in restroom facilities and staircases are triggered by motion sensors for increased energy efficiency. Energy efficient lifts, escalators, and air conditioning systems will also be installed in the convention centre. As a result, MAX Atria will achieve 30 per cent more energy savings than a traditional building of a similar size. This roughly translates into enough electricity to power 2,400 four-room HDB1 apartments in Singapore annually.

In addition to energy-saving measures, MAX Atria has extensively used recycled material in its construction, such as Green Label certified products and products with at least 30% recycled material. This includes carpets for all meeting rooms and pre-function areas, toilet partitions, acoustic doors, dry wall partitions, water proofing materials as well as the use of eco-concrete for all non-structural elements, to make MAX Atria a truly green building. 1 HDB apartments refer to public housing developed by Singapore's Housing Development Board and the average size for a four-room apartment is 1,000sqm.

"MAX Atria is designed with environmental best practices incorporated from concept to construction. At Singex, it is our mission to shape business events for the global marketplace through innovative development and sustainable management of our venues", said Mr Aloysius Arlando, Chief Executive Officer of Singex Group, the venue manager of both MAX Atria and Singapore EXPO, "Eco-sustainability has become a key factor in today's business world, and we recognize the importance of the global effort to address environmental issues such as climate change. As a responsible corporate citizen and leader in the MICE industry, Singex strives to deliver quality solutions for our stakeholders and work closely with our vendors and business partners in a sustainable approach."

Commissioned by the Singapore Tourism Board, MAX Atria offers a refreshing concept in conventions. It adds 8,000 square metres of conference space and a total of 32 meeting rooms to Singapore EXPO. The building is expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2012.

Singex Powers Business Events With New Convention Wing

New meeting spaces at Singapore’s largest purpose-built event venue to enhance Singapore's position as the leading MICE hub in Asia

Singapore -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/11/2011 -- Singex, a MICE veteran with over thirty years of industry expertise, has announced the development of new meeting facilities for Singapore?s largest purpose-built meetings, incentive, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) venue. MAX Atria @ Singapore EXPO will feature 23 new meeting rooms and spacious pre-function areas, adding some 8,000 square metres of space to EXPO?s inventory.

Redefining conventions

Specially designed to bring nature "inside" and meetings "outside", MAX Atria will incorporate lush, green elements that will harness the enlivening power of nature to inspire minds and stimulate business discussions and networking. The new wing will also be built in line with Singapore?s Building & Construction Authority Green Mark1 Platinum standard, a benchmarking scheme which incorporates internationally recognised best practices in environmental design and building performance.

Aloysius Arlando, Chief Executive Officer of Singex, says, "Singex is refreshing the way the regional MICE venue business has been operating by introducing a novel meeting concept complemented by a dedicated team that takes pride in delivering quality experiences. MAX Atria will present a conducive and natural environment that invigorates minds and sparks new ideas. Business event organisers can look forward to an oasis-like experience designed
to make meetings meaningful and rewarding for all participants, without the distractions associated with the bright lights and bustling sounds of the city."

At the same time, Singex has embarked on a total event solutions offering whereby event organisers can take advantage of our suite of services – Market Intelligence, Conference and Exhibition Project Management, Venue and Ancillary Services, Market Representation – to make their events impactful. We are confident that MAX Atria, together with our professional services, will ensure that EXPO continues to be well-equipped to meet the needs of the MICE industry and remain a choice venue for global business event organisers."

Responding to industry changes
Targeted for completion by early 2012, MAX Atria will give Singex an edge in bidding for multi-dimensional business events and tradeshows which require adjoining areas for complementary activities. Complete with new restrooms, lifts and escalators, MAX Atria will be fitted with modern audio-visual, lighting and technical capabilities, enhancing the venue?s functionality and versatility in hosting a multitude of events that is only limited by imagination. Besides conferences and corporate meetings and their companion breakout sessions, MAX Atria will also be well-suited for plenary sessions, product launches, award ceremonies as well as banquets and receptions.

Offers Mr Arlando, "Organisers are changing the way they plan business events so that the conferences or tradeshows they deliver remain relevant to delegates and exhibitors and achieve maximum return-on-investment. For example, the "confex? model (i.e. holding one or several conferences within an exhibition itself) is becoming commonplace, while global conferences are rightsizing into cosier, decentralised zonal events to effectively reach out to a diverse marketplace."

International Furniture Fair Singapore Pte Ltd, who has anchored its flagship International Furniture Fair Singapore/ASEAN Furniture Show (IFFS/AFS) at EXPO for the past eleven editions, is looking forward to the new facilities. Mr Andrew Ng, Chairman of IFFS Pte Ltd, says, "The versatility of EXPO and the great event support by the Singex team have enabled IFFS/AFS to grow from strength to strength over the years. MAX Atria will certainly add a refreshing dimension to EXPO and we are eagerly anticipating its completion."

Changi General Hospital, who held its 4th Asia Pacific Otology & Neurotology and 1st Singapore Otology & Skull Base Update conferences at EXPO last October, is also excited by the new development. Dr Yuen Heng Wai, Consultant, Department of Otolaryngology, says, "Thanks to the multi-functional and flexible spaces offered at EXPO, our medical meetings were a resounding success. We are excited by the introduction of the new convention wing and feel certain that with the longstanding commitment displayed by Singex's event professionals, EXPO will remain a leading MICE venue in Asia."

Precinct rejuvenation
The building of MAX Atria is one of many upcoming exciting developments in the Changi Business Park precinct that will transform the area into an active urban ecosystem over the next two years, incorporating business hotels, serviced residences, as well as garden, office, lifestyle and retail spaces. Singapore University of Technology and Design will also be a mere stone?s throw away from EXPO by 2015 while the EXPO Mass Rapid Transit station will become an interchange for the Downtown Line in 2016/2017. These developments are already generating a perceptible increase in both local and expatriate resident and working populations and will build EXPO and its surrounding areas into an even more vibrant business, event and lifestyle hub.

Female IT Consumers Can Expect Chick Magnets Galore At SITEX 2010

Singapore -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/04/2010 -- Cast aside the notion that technology is the domain of male gearheads. Now big business, particularly hi-tech manufacturers, is scrambling to get a piece of the modern woman consumer. When it comes to IT products, the female consumer is hardly your traditional gadget-fixated, spec-obsessed nerdy archetype. Financially independent and well-educated, the women of today demand form and function, style and substance.

Lady luck shines bright at SITEX

Over the last five years, Singapore's favourite digital playground, SITEX, has attracted a steady rise in the number of female visitors, with over forty per cent being of the fairer sex at last year's edition1.
Ho Se Mun, Executive Director of Singapore infocomm Technology Federation, the organiser of SITEX, says, "With 41.5 per cent of Singapore's population (aged 15 years and above)2 being of the fairer sex, manufacturers have gone beyond the stereotype of producing a pink or more compact version of an existing gadget by creating products with women's needs and tastes in mind."
AC Ryan Asia Pacific Pte Ltd has its finger firmly placed on women's digital lifestyle pulse. Soon Linlin, Marketing Executive, reveals, "There still exists this misconception that women choose form over function but in reality, women not only demand stylishly designed products, but powerful technical specifications too. Also, we have observed an increase in the number of ladies obtaining content and data off the Web and on the go, so our Playon! series of media players and streamers are a perfect fit to their hectic digital lifestyle. Compact, sleek and user-friendly, our Playon! HD Mini can be plugged into any full HD TV and you can start streaming movies and videos in the comfort of their own living room."

KJC Technologies Pte Ltd understands that sometimes female consumers cannot seem to find a gadget that promises the perfect style and substance combination they are seeking. KJC's series of smartphone accessories promises just that right balance of user-friendliness and chic design to cater to the fairer sex."

Orange Communications Pte Ltd is yet another SITEX exhibitor cum sponsor who is keen to tap on the emerging opportunities. Women are definitely increasingly IT-savvy and more discerning when it comes to technology products. At OrangeComms, we are constantly looking to bring in exciting gadgets that are not only functional but appealing in terms of design for the ladies. The Walk on Water collection of laptop bags is certainly one of them."
According to German consultants Roland Berger , the global market for environmental products and services runs at around US$1,370 billion (S$1,754 billion), and by 2020, it could double to US$2,740 billion (S$3,507 billion). Considering Singapore's ICT industry was valued at S$62.74 billion in 2009 , up from S$58.10 billion in 2008, green solutions looks set to become a central concern for this sector in the years ahead.

To align itself with the global trend towards green technologies, SITEX, Singapore's stalwart consumer IT and electronics exhibition, is staying ahead of the competition and growing beyond its conventional boundaries and towards increasing green awareness among local technology consumers.

Fresh segment to showcase environmentally friendly products

This year, the aptly-named brand new segment, Green IT, will feature a stunning array of eco-friendly products like anti-virus software, batteries, home appliances and notebooks by the likes of Emjay Enterprises, FMI, GP Battery, H2H Group, Lenovo Singapore, McCoy Consumers, Symantec, and so on.

Eugene Liew, Country Manager, Home & Small-Medium Business, Lenovo Singapore, shares, "Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the need to protect and sustain the environment and importantly are making purchases that reflect their environmentally conscious lifestyles. Technology can be one of the biggest enablers of an environmentally friendly lifestyle with a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through the adoption of telecommuting, virtual meetings and energy management practices. As a PC company with one of the largest number of products certified by various environmental agencies, Lenovo is committed to sustainability because not only is it important to many of our customers and stakeholders, it's important to us too. Being a good corporate citizen is not only good for our business. It's the right thing to do."

Ken Siow, General Manager of McCoy Consumers Pte Ltd, which is offering Singapore's original patented Laundry Ball by Biounme, says, "McCoy believes that consumer tech manufacturers are now competing in the green space not just for how much they are doing to diminish their carbon footprint or diminish energy demands in their operations, but also in what their consumer goods will require, use recyclable materials, and produce products that support green living. For example, the eco-friendly and chemical-free Biounme Laundry Ball is endorsed by several environmental agencies including FDA, NSF International and SGS, helps consumers save cost and conserve energy when washing clothes. It is also 100% baby safe and ideal for people with sensitive skin."

Vishnu Metheram, Executive Director of Emjay Enterprises, which is presenting SANYO's Air Washer Plus at SITEX, "SANYO has provided numerous products using its unique electrolysed water technology dating back to 1987, but this is the first air treatment product SANYO has introduced to the world for home use. In an urbanised environment like Singapore's, people typically live close to sources of pollution and infection. The Washer uses its unique electrolysed water technology to safely suppress various bacteria and germs and disinfect the air. It has been scientifically proven by independent organisations to be up to 99% effective."

Show visitors to join in the global call for action

Beyond just purchasing green products, visitors to SITEX can also partake in other green activities. Designated recycling bins provided by Clean Solutions will be placed right outside one of the show halls so that they may discard unwanted electronic items and used brochures and flyers conveniently. What is more, all proceeds from this recycling effort will go to the Society for the Physically Disabled.

Cash Converters, a partner at SITEX since 2007, will also be on hand for visitors to exchange their quality working-condition electronic items for instant cash. Some of the accepted items include computers and notebooks (Pentium IV and above), PDAs, mobile phones, printers, digital cameras, TVs, MP3 players, portable DVD players.

Peter Goh, Chairman of the Green IT Chapter Exco 2010/2011 at SiTF, shares, "This chapter was formed in November 2008 in response to the urgency to climate change and sustainability issues, which the ICT sector is well-positioned to help address. We are heartened to note that this platform has helped to raise awareness in the industry in adopting green practices and nurture innovative opportunities for businesses to extend environmentally friendly products and services to consumers so that we may all do our part for Mother Earth."

SITEX will be held at Halls 4 to 6 of Singapore Expo from 25 to 28 November.
