Fort Lauderdale, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/12/2019 -- According to F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America's Future 2011, obesity rates increased in 16 states in the past year and did not decline in any state. Twelve states now have obesity rates above 30 percent. Four years ago, only one state was above 30 percent.

Florida has an obesity rate of 28.4. The obesity epidemic can be traced to multiple factors. Those most commonly cited are poor diets and sedentary lifestyles.

The nationwide increase in obesity is counterintuitive. The fitness and fat loss industries are booming, but people aren't getting healthier. Something isn't right.

"Most fitness and pharmaceutical companies care more about fattening their bottom lines than they do about slimming people's waistlines," said Jennifer Rosidor, who co-owns STRONG BODIEZ Fort Lauderdale with husband, Mike Rosidor.

"The real key to fat loss is having a social support network that holds you accountable for your goals."

To combat the rise in obesity in Fort Lauderdale, Jennifer Rosidor and husband Mike Rosidor are hosting a nutrition workshop open to the public.

"With all the misinformation out there, it can be difficult for people to know what steps they actually need to take to get healthy. My organization has put together some simple and effective workshops to help people get moving in the right direction."

Monies raised for the event will go to the Renand Foundation to help the start an entrepreneurship course in Bassin Bluer, Haiti.
