The Expatriate Lifestyle Charity Open promises to be the most prestigious golfing event in the expatriate calendar. This exclusive annual event will be played at the Royal Selangor Golf Club on 18 May 2012.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/29/2012 -- After a successful tournament in 2011, The Expatriate Lifestyle Charity Open is back. Partnered by Selangor Dredging Berhad, the hunt for the best amateur expatriate golfer for 2012 has begun!

The Expatriate Lifestyle Charity Open promises to be the most prestigious golfing event in the expatriate calendar. This exclusive annual event will be played at the Royal Selangor Golf Club on 18 May 2012.

The day will consist of a gross and net competition, longest drive, hole-in-one and closest to the pin. The fantastic goodie bag, competitions and prizes will be sponsored by prestigious Malaysian and international lifestyle brands like Etihad, http://AsiaWebDirect.com, City Golf and others

At just RM450 per player registration fee participation is limited to 100 players to ensure a quality golfing experience at one of the best golf courses in Malaysia

"The Expatriate Lifestyle Charity Open is now firmly established as a top golfing event in the expatriate calendar. We attract the best amateur expatriate golfers in Malaysia, competing for big prizes at Asia's oldest and best known golf club. Plus, we raise important funds for three very worthy children's charities. This is a day you don't want to miss", said Graham Paling, Group CEO of Mongoose Publishing Sdn Bhd, the publishers of Expatriate Lifestyle magazine.

Last year, over 70 of the best amateur expatriate golfers in Malaysia had a great time playing on one of the best courses in the country and won prizes including a Peugeot 207 for a Hole In One and business class tickets to any Etihad destination in the world. The proceeds, totaling a huge RM40,000, were donated to three selected charities Rumah Nur Salam, Precious Children's Home & Puchong Learning Centre.

This year the target is 100 amateur expatriate golfers and a minimum of RM45,000 for Puchong Learning Centre, Sinar Salam, SOLS24X7 and Dignity for Children Foundation

The Puchong Learning Centre is a safe haven for underprivileged children and orphans living with relatives in extreme poverty. Aiming to provide the children with at least one meal a day, the centre is 100% dependant on volunteers for both material resources and physical. On a weekly basis, regular volunteers teach basic English and Maths in hopes that the children will be able to at least hold a simple position in the retail scene instead of being left to roam the streets as most of these children fare rather poorly in school and are often left behind.

Rumah Sinar Salam provides a safe and healthy environment to abandoned children in the Chow Kit area. Over 35 children are currently living at Rumah Sinar Salam. Each day about 40 to 60 children will visit the centre. Most of the children are originally from Chow Kit and come from one-parent homes. Many of them are the children of sex workers or drug addicts.

Science of Life Studies 24/7 (SOLS24/7) began operations in Malaysian in 2007. SOLS 24/7 is a Non Governmental, Non Religious Organization that provides a unique Education program for underprivileged youth who are not able to acquire a proper school education or are unable to pursue higher education due to financial difficulties or otherwise. SOLS 24/7 has a full-time boarding program where students are provided education, boarding and meals (3 times a day) for FREE. Students are taught a structured program of leadership & character skills as well as academic/book smart skills.

Established in 2003, Dignity for Children Foundation aims to empower underprivileged children to break the cycle of poverty through quality education, positively transforming their lives and the lives of the community around them. They cater to children from ages 2-17 through their education, sports and youth development programs. All their programs are based on the national curriculum as prescribed by the MOE but incorporate Montessori principles. Currently they reach out to 700 children.

Mr. Yeoh Guan Jin, the Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager for Selangor Dredging Berhad is very excited about being part of the Open, "We are very pleased to be the presenting partner for this prestigious event that not only helps us strengthen ties with the expatriate market in Malaysia but also helps deserving children's charities who support the most vulnerable in society".

Time out Kuala Lumpur Food Awards 2011 Unveiled Winners As KL Celebrates the Best Dining Experiences

Time Out Kuala Lumpur Food Awards 2011 – winners unveiled as KL celebrates the best dining experiences in the Klang Valley as chosen by readers of Time Out KL.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/04/2011 -- The best chefs and restaurateurs in Malaysia were at KLPac tonight to find out the winners of the Time Out Kuala Lumpur Food Awards 2011 – Malaysia's biggest and highly respected awards for excellence in dining.

More than 400 of the most accomplished and respected names in the KL gastronomic scene attended the awards to find out the winning kitchens, restaurants, chefs and restaurateurs and to applaud their peers in 19 different categories.

Competition was fierce in the 18 categories, plus there was a brand new challenge in the "Blogger's Choice Award". Time Out KL invited several prominent food bloggers to write a review of the best place that they had eaten during 2011. These reviews were then posted online and visitors would cast their votes for the outlet AND the blogger, a brand new concept in voting and one that proved popular with voters and bloggers alike.

Ben's took the prestigious New Restaurant of the Year Award, while Chef Nathalie Arbefeuille was voted the Outstanding Chef of the Year at the Time Out KL Food Awards 2011. The Best Fine Dining Restaurant Award was swept away by Cilantro while Benjamin Yong won the Restaurateur of the Year.

Time Out KL is proud to partner with American Express for the awards as a brand with a proven track record for supporting the best dining experiences around the world. American Express will offer Cardmembers special offers or experiences when they dine at Time Out KL Food Awards shortlisted outlets as part of the partnership, which is now running in its second year.

Time Out KL Editor Lim Chee Wah said, "Time Out magazine is firmly established in over 40 cities around the world. Many of these have their own Food Awards but here in Kuala Lumpur, ours is one of the biggest in the entire world. It's wonderful to be able to put KL on the map as the top class food destination it is. However, the real purpose of the night is to acknowledge and acclaim the chefs and restaurateurs who work so hard for KLites, making us the food we eat three times – or more times a day. Every one of the attendees tonight have received many votes and have a warm place in the hearts of KLites. Tonight, we at Time Out KL salute them and urge them to keep up their outstanding efforts into 2012 and beyond."

After the awards were announced, Mr. Graham Paling, Group MD of Mongoose, the publishers of Time Out Kuala Lumpur said, "These awards reward and celebrate dining excellence in the Klang Valley. They are the result of tens of thousands of votes cast by the cosmopolitan citizens of Kuala Lumpur. They are one of the biggest independent people's choice awards and you can see that from the excitement and jubilation of the winners. We look forward to working on making these awards bigger and better, because the dining culture in KL is so vibrant and exciting but now our job is to work together with the industry and our valued partner American Express to make it even greater."

Lim Su Ching, Head of American Express for Maybank expressed her happiness at the way the awards have grown. "We are delighted the Awards have generated so much interest and created even more enthusiasm among diners and restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. We are proud to be partner of this campaign to promote the diverse cuisines of our country and in the process promote Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia as a top destination for gastronomists and tourists," said Lim.

Lim congratulated the winners and sees the Awards as benefiting both diners and the F&B industry. "We have seen this year's award raising the bar of excellence and creativity among chefs and restaurants, which will improve the overall dining experience of patrons. Dining today has gone beyond just what is served on the platter. Providing a rewarding experience with added values to our customers has always been one of the core benefits that we deliver for American Express Cardmembers, and a commitment that we share with our restaurant merchant partners,' added Lim.

A record number of votes were cast in the 2011 Time Out Kuala Lumpur food awards, nearly 50,000 over the five month voting period. This was up nearly 50% from 2010, reflecting the way that the awards have captured the public imagination.
Time Out Kuala Lumpur magazine also leveraged the awards night to celebrate its recent accomplishment of winning the Magazine Publishers Association Best Magazine Cover of the Year Award – the most prestigious award in Malaysian magazine publishing. Time Out is also the current holder of the world's PPA Awards – the Oscars of the magazine industry – held in London, having scooped this prize in 2010 and 2011, largely for the work of Time Out magazines around the world in destinations such as Kuala Lumpur.

The results for the awards were kept a tight secret until the ceremony. Guests arrived with no knowledge of the winners in the respective categories. All Shortlisted outlets received thousands of votes, so all can rightly be considered as winners and display their certificates and trophies proudly for the next 12 months and beyond.

More than 400 restaurateurs, key players in the F&B industry, sponsors and local celebrities attended the glittering award ceremony at KLPac where the MCs for the evening, Daphne Iking and Dominic Lau presented each of the delighted 107 shortlisted outlets with their certificates and iconic trophy for the winners, along with representatives of Time Out Kuala Lumpur and American Express.

The guests were entertained by fire eaters, mimes, live tables, street magicians and a jazz quartet while they enjoyed some excellent food, spirits and wines before the start of the awards. The award ceremony started with an explosive performance by a Latin percussion band and a short presentation on the Awards by Time Out KL. After the awards the guests enjoyed some more food and wine to foot tapping music by DJ Faith.

Graham Paling concluded the evening by thanking all the guests for coming and sharing in the celebrations, before noting "It has been a wonderful evening, made possible by our presenting partners, American Express, Maybank- The sole merchant acquirer and card issuer for American Express Cards in Malaysia and all the intelligent, opinionated bloggers and readers, who took the time out to nominate their favourite restaurants."

About the Time Out KL Food Awards
The goal of the Time Out KL Food Awards is to contribute significantly towards raising the standards in cuisine, service and gastronomic innovation in Kuala Lumpur, as well as to acknowledge and acclaim those individuals and companies who have maintained high standards throughout the year.

Winners were chosen from shortlists in 19 categories, which were selected after an initial round of voting, so every outlet involved in the awards was chosen by real KLites who nominated their favourites and then selected a winner from the shortlist during a three month voting period on http://www.timeoutkl.com which boasts 500,000 unique visitors every month. Voting was heavily promoted in Time Out Kuala Lumpur magazine (readership 125,000 per month), on billboards across the city, and through targeted campaigns in the restaurants themselves.

Esquire Announces the Best Dressed Malaysian Man Winners

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/01/2011 -- After three months of Esquire Malaysia's "Best Dressed Man Malaysia" competition, one that saw contestants bear the full weight of a panel of fashion experts, winners were announced in dramatic style at Suria KLCC. With prizes totaling RM10,000, it was as exciting a competition as it gets.

Esquire Malaysia launched it's version of the popular Esquire UK's "Britain's Best Dressed Real Man" this year, a contest that saw contestants send their pictures looking stylish and fashionable to be critiqued by a panel of judges. They then were invited to come to two judging competitions where they were interviewed by the judges—Esquire's editor-in-chief Sam Coleman; Mark Wills from Stylekandi, the new premier blog for fashion and style; Nicholas Ng, Esquire brand ambassador and Garbagelapsap fashion blogger; Lim Fang Heng of Wardrobe; Leong Wong, fashion editor for Esquire and Vijay Binwani of Lustro—at the LUSTRO and Wardrobe locales, two of the sponsors.

In total, the judges assessed Over forty entrants based on merit and personal style. "It was an amazing turn-out, I was really impressed by the level of fashion knowledge and confidence. It bodes well for the development of men's fashion in Malaysia, something that Esquire is championing as the foremost men's fashion and lifestyle title," said Coleman of the competition.

Besides the prizes of a bespoke suit by Wardrobe worth 7,500, the LUSTRO vouchers of RM1000 each and Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve bottles worth RM303 each, the final three and the two honourable mentions had a photoshoot that appears in the December Esquire.

Rudolph Christopher La Faber, Advertising Creative/DJ, 26, was crowned as Malaysia's Best Dressed Man and received a Wardrobe bespoke suit and a bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve. "Rudy was incredibly impressive with his style sense, the depth of his knowledge and his full-on passion for men's style," said Sam Coleman, Editor-in-Chief of Esquire Malaysia.

Ahmad Farhan Asmawar, Executive at Oil & Gas Industry, 30, was the first runner-up and received prizes from clothier LUSTRO and a bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve. "I can really subscribe to Farhan's style. He has that whole 'preppy' summer thing pegged down. It's fun, carefree, and smart. His look can easily be related to for our climes as we have eternal summers," exclaimed Leong Wong, Fashion Editor of Esquire Malaysia.

Ivan Leong, Managing Director, 27, was crowned the second runner-up and received prizes from clothier LUSTRO and a bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve. "It's sprezzatura ... as much of care, attention, and detail that Ivan has indulged in his look, it is pure style, clothes that one would wear," stated Lim Fang Heng ,C.E.O. of Wardrobe.

Ricky Saikia, Senior Inbound Manager, 24, and Billy Tea, Political Analyst, 25, both received an honourary mention

The Best Dressed Man Malaysia is based on a key fashion pillar in the UK, Britain's Best Dressed Real Man, and has run to much fanfare in London. As such, it asks normal, non-celebrity men to send in their photos, demonstrate their fashion sense, be that with luxury brands or just interesting combinations that spell style. "A very important aspect we want to convey is that style is not about money: it's simply the best of what every man can afford, imagination and—most importantly—attitude," said Coleman.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Nazeen Koonda
Manager, Public Relations
Mongoose Publishing
Telephone: +603 2166 6650
Email: Click to Email Nazeen Koonda
Web: http://mongooseasia.com

Malaysia Golf Tourism Association Launches New Website

The Malaysia Golf Tourism Association (MGTA) this week unveiled a brand new website with comprehensive details on every golf course and tourism tips to help bring thousands more golfers to Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/29/2011 -- The website, http://www.mgta.com.my, contains over five hundred pages of targeted content, including extensive promotions for golf clubs and tour operators offering golf-specific packages, which showcase Malaysia as a unique golf destination to the world.

Internationally, golf tourism represents hundreds of billions of dollars worth of potential revenue with an estimated 60 million "golf tourists" travelling the world and discovering new experiences in their favourite sport every year.

Malaysia currently represents less than 1% of this market, despite boasting 207 clubs, many of them among the most challenging and aesthetically inspiring in the region. No other country allows golfers to play beside the beach, on top of mountains, in the heart of a bustling city, or deep inside a rainforest that is millions of years old.

Formed in March 2011, the Malaysia Golf Tourism Association is spreading this message around the world, now using their new website http://www.mgta.com.my. The site features a page for each golf club in Malaysia with photograph, detailed description and list of facilities, plus contact information.

Split into five key sections, the website is easy to navigate, attractive and enticing for the sophisticated, international target audience. The first section is "Events", which profile top events such as the recently concluded Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia held at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club and the upcoming CIMB Asia Pacific Classic at The MINES on October 27-30. There are also exclusive interviews, comments and video clips including endorsements of Malaysia as a premier golfing destination from golfing icons such as Ben Crane, Paula Creamer, Nathalie Gulbis and current World Number One Yani Tseng.

The section also features unique articles about the best golfing experiences in Malaysia, both for visitors who follow international tournaments on the European Tour, Asian Tour, PGA and LPGA, or for those who wish to play themselves.

The "Clubs" and "Play" pages are intelligently laid-out so that users can explore the section according to their precise requirements. Visitors can look geographically or by facilities such as their par, yardage, whether they have caddies or if they offer night golf. There is also a map illustrating the exact location of each club.

In its "Stay" section, http://www.mgta.com.my offers a breakdown of the best hotels or resorts that are relevant for golfers, whether because they have their own course, are affiliated to a club, or offer transport/discounted green fees. Meanwhile, the "Explore" section details more than 100 attractions, spas, shops, medical centres, and sightseeing opportunities for families to enjoy during their stay.

This multi-level approach to sharing information and trustworthy travel advice sets http://www.mgta.com.my apart from any other website like it in the world, explains Paul Gibbons, Chairman of the Malaysia Golf Tourism Association. "Golf Tourists are choosing Malaysia for various reasons now. They want more than just great golf. They are coming here to enjoy our spas, our shops and – increasingly – medical procedures as part of an extended holiday."

"The benefits of these golf tourists coming to Malaysia is obvious. They are big spenders and they indulge themselves in hospitality, restaurants, at malls and their travels across the country. However, more important are the benefits that these visitors feel. Malaysia is a wonderful country and these tourists enjoy themselves so much that they recommend the country to their friends. Soon, the world will know all about this incredible country where you can golf by the sea, in the clouds or in the jungle."

The Executive Director of the MGTA is Chris Syer, a man intimately familiar with Malaysian Golf having worked in the industry for more than three decades as journalist, advisor and General Manager of Royal Selangor Golf Club. "I am very excited and pleased with our new website, http://www.mgta.com.my. Malaysia is a beautiful country and in fact golf in Asia actually started in Malaysia, with the first recognised club in Taiping well over a hundred years ago. Sadly, in recent times, Malaysia has fallen behind the likes of Japan and Korea, but the Malaysia Golf Tourism Association aim to put that right."

"Since forming in March 2011, the MGTA have been working very hard to promote golf in Malaysia to the world. We have already visited Hong Kong, Morocco and Taiwan, so having an effective, striking website was an important next step in our plans."

"On November 14-17, we will be present at the International Golf Travel Market in Belek, Turkey. This is the world's biggest event for golf tourism providers and it will be the first time the MGTA have appeared there. We hope this will stimulate an increase in visitors to Malaysia and we look forward to hosting the IGTM right here in Malaysia in April 2012."

This roadmap for future success is clear and the launch of the www.mgta.com.my website is a crucial component in the MGTA's strategy. Designed, built and produced by Malaysian communications company Mongoose, has already received plaudits from MGTA members and users alike.

Matthew Bellotti, Editorial Director of Mongoose explains, "We are absolutely thrilled to be asked to work with the Malaysia Golf Tourism Association and I am very proud of the work we have done on the www.mgta.com.my website. Mongoose publish one of Asia's most established and respected golf periodicals Golf Vacations, are the Communications & Events Representatives of the Royal Selangor Golf Club, and organise Malaysia's biggest amateur expatriate golf tournament, the TNT-Expatriate Lifestyle Open, so we are intimately familiar with the outstanding selection of golfing experiences in this country. Malaysia needs to tell the world about her beautiful Golf Tourism opportunities and we are proud and delighted to be able to help do that with the http://www.mgta.com.my website."

The MGTA website is already live and new content is posted and edited every day to keep it fresh and enticing. MGTA Members can update their own pages with relevant promotions to attract visitors, plus benefit from exclusive advertising promotions, there are direct links to each club, plus affiliates such as Tourism Malaysia, the International Association of Golf Tourism Operators, the European Tour, Asian Tour and PGA, plus a "Course of the Week" to highlight a particular club that is worthy of showcasing to the world.

Time Out Kuala Lumpur Wins Malaysia's Top Magazine Award

Time Out Kuala Lumpur, published by Mongoose Publishing Sdn Bhd, yesterday won the top award for magazines in Malaysia at the Magazine Publishers Association (MPA) Awards.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/21/2011 -- The award recognises excellence in magazine cover design, with the December 2010 front cover, entitled "Food Awards 2010", winning both a Gold Award in the category Entertainment/Music and the overall prize for Best Magazine Cover of the Year.

The MPA Awards are the most prestigious awards in Malaysian magazine publishing and have been in existence for four years. This year's awards – recognising covers released in 2010 – were the biggest ever with 188 front covers submitted from all the major magazine publishers in the country.

The MPA Awards is the latest success for the Time Out brand, the magazine having successfully defended their crown in the PPA Awards in London earlier this year. The PPA Awards are the Oscars for the print and magazine industry in London, United Kingdom, and Time Out's wins in both 2010 and 2011 were heavily attributed to the magazine's global reach in cities such as KL.

Editor of Time Out Kuala Lumpur, Lim Chee Wah, was understandably thrilled to have won the two MPA Awards. "This is an amazing achievement and I want to thank the whole team for the incredibly hard work that goes into producing Time Out KL every month for the past three and a half years. Their efforts fully deserve winning Malaysia's most prestigious magazine award."

The awards, held in front of 300 of the top publishing and advertising executives and media owners, plus students of media from local colleges, took place at Kumpulan Media Karangkraf Sdn Bhd in Shah Alam on Wednesday 10 November, 2011.

The Jury who decided the winners, using a stringent and accountable rating system, included many of the most respected names in Malaysian media. They were: Dr Junita Shariza bt Mohd Nasir, Lecturer at Fakulti Teknologi Seni & Seni Reka Industri Universiti Industri Selangor; Sayuti bin Chik Tajudin, Lecturer at Fakulti Teknologi Seni & Seni Reka Industri Universiti Industri Selangor; Darren Cheng, Head of Art at Brand Solutions for Hire Sdn Bhd; Prabha Nayar, Chief Communication Consultant, Epic Works Sdn Bhd; Mohamed Razeef bin Abdul Razak, Lecturer in the Graphic Design Department, Faculty of Art & design, Universiti Teknologi MARA; and Peter Das, Senior General Manager of Berjaya Corporation Berhad.

There were six categories in total, split into Bahasa, English and Chinese language to reflect the diverse array of magazines in Malaysia. The categories were Women, Home/Lifestyle, Entertainment/Music, Current Affairs/Business, Teenager/Children, and Special Interest/Niche. Magazines were judged using strict criteria with grades awarded for choice of image, cover-lines, design, layout, impact and suitability for the audience – both readers and advertisers. There were Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards given according to these scores and once the six categories had been awarded, all the Gold Award winners were collected and the best one chosen as Magazine Cover of the Year 2010.

With this award, Time Out KL even more firmly establishes itself as the definitive publication for KLites to discover the city around them. Time Out magazine was started in London in 1968 and has now spread to more than 40 cities around the world. Time Out Kuala Lumpur was launched in April 2008 and is consistently one of KL's most popular magazines. Since launch Time Out KL has also produced four annual guides under the Time Out Malaysia brand about Shopping, Kids, Restaurants, Bars & Clubs, and a Visitors Guide which is sold all over the world. In early 2011, Time Out KL also launched a unique iPhone Application in partnership with Heineken and Guinness, which has already had more than 15,000 downloads. The Time Out KL iPhone Application is free of charge and can be downloaded now from the iTunes Store.

In 2010, Mongoose Publishing Sdn Bhd also launched Time Out Penang as the newest addition to the Time Out world. This stand-alone 160+ page guide will be joined by a website and iPhone Application in early 2012.

This historic victory in the Magazine Publishers Association Awards is the latest piece of good news for Time Out KL in the same week that Editor Lim Chee Wah appeared in "where in the world is Matt Lauer", a very popular segment of NBC's The Today Show, telling the show's 60 million viewers around the world all the great things to see and do in the city of Kuala Lumpur.

Graham Paling, Group MD of Mongoose, said, "This is an exciting time for Mongoose and Time Out KL. I'm so proud of the team for this win. It represents a peak after nearly four years work. We make magazines that are not guided by PR or advertisers. We invest in the best journalists and produce innovative work and platforms that readers actually want to read and enjoy. The response and successful newsstand figures speak for themselves.

"Over time we have been able to build a quite brilliant edition of Time Out that ranks alongside the likes of London and New York, and it shows that Malaysians and KLites are intelligent consumers who appreciate quality. For them, and for the Time Out KL team, this is a great award to win and I'm a very proud man today."

Winning this award is far from the culmination of the year's work for Time Out Kuala Lumpur. Next week the magazine goes to print with the Food Awards issue for 2011, revealing the choices of its 125,000 readers and over half a million website visitors in 19 categories for the best places to eat out in KL. The Time Out KL Food Awards 2011, proudly partnered by American Express, are KL's top awards for restaurants, kitchens, chefs and restaurateurs and the winners will be kept a tight secret until revealed at a glamorous awards night on November 23 and in print in the magazine available on newsstands the next day.

Winners Revealed in the Best of Malaysia Awards 2011

After 10 weeks of voting in 16 categories, thousands of expatriates have spoken and the results were unveiled tonight at the Official Ceremony for the Best of Malaysia Awards 2011.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- (SBWIRE) --11/18/2011 -- This showpiece event, organised by Expatriate Lifestyle, Malaysia's number one expatriate magazine, took place this evening at View, GTower in central Kuala Lumpur. Around 250 of the top names from the Travel and Hospitality industry in Malaysia, including General Managers from the top Hotels, Resorts & Spas, joined the celebration, eager to find out whether their properties were among the successful few.

Best City Hotel was won by Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, with Excellence Awards for Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur and One World Hotel. The Excellence Awards are given for outlets who have achieved a significant proportion of the vote and only narrowly missed out on winning the category.

Other notable winners include Hilton Kuala Lumpur as Best Business Hotel, The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur for Best Weekend Break, Four Seasons Resort Langkawi for Best Romantic Stay, Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-La, Penang for Best Family Stay, and Tiger Rock in Pangkor as the Best Boutique Stay.

It was the first time Tiger Rock had won a Best of Malaysia Award and they followed it up with further success in the Best Eco-Resort category. The popularity of this quaint, elegant property demonstrates how Malaysian-based expatriates are discovering more of the country and how impressively the tourism sector is developing in this country.

George Town, Penang won the Best Authentic Malaysian Experience Award, while Pavilion KL was voted Best Attraction, proving expatriates love their shopping.

There were more winners from outside of Kuala Lumpur than ever before in this year's Best of Malaysia Awards, with nine of the sixteen winners coming from beyond KL, further proof that expatriates are more familiar than ever with life beyond the capital.

There were also a record number of awards given away, with 58 Excellence Awards across the sixteen categories. This reflects an extremely competitive voting process where the lead changed hands many times. In fact, in two of the categories the eventual winner achieved fewer than five votes more than the property in second place.

The Best of Malaysia Awards (#BOM2011 on Twitter) are the awards where the people's vote on all things travel and leisure are counted, where the vox populi decides the Best of Malaysia! The awards take an overview of the Malaysian hospitality industry from hotels, beach resorts, attractions, spas and more, providing a 100 per cent public-driven award system, the only one of its kind in the country.

Winners were chosen from shortlists in 16 categories over a 10-week voting period until September 1, 2011 on www.expatriatelifestyle.com

At the glittering award ceremony at View, GTower the MC's of the evening, Amanda Ting and Matt Bellotti, presented each of the delighted representatives with their certificates and iconic trophies for the winners.

Guests at the event at one of KL's newest, coolest venues held on the balcony overlooking Kuala Lumpur City Centre, were entertained by Dulcet Rhythms, DJ Faith and enjoyed refreshments courtesy of Heineken and GTower. There was also a lucky draw with luxury prizes from Bric's (www.travelwithbrics.com).

Matt Bellotti, who is also Editorial Director for Expatriate Lifestyle was very excited about the awards, he said, "These awards are now in their sixth year and are the only award of their kind. The Best Of Malaysia is a celebration of tourism and hospitality experiences in Malaysia, which surely rank among the very best in the world. These awards were voted for by expatriates who never cease to impress me with their knowledge and opinions of the best places to see, stay, eat and enjoy. The field of winning properties this year is stronger than ever."

Bellotti continued, "I have watched these awards grow over the past six years, during which time the landscape of the tourism industry in Malaysia has developed remarkably. New hotels, resorts, spas and attractions are opening all the time, making the country more enticing to overseas visitors and it is hugely satisfying to be able to acknowledge the hard work of the individuals and properties responsible for presenting the best of Malaysia to the world. These awards are not just about giving away a few trophies, but celebrating excellence across the industry and promoting the excellence in hospitality that makes Malaysia one of the preferred holiday destinations in the world."

The Tnt Expatriate Lifestyle Charity Open 2011

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/10/2011 -- After its successful launch in 2010, the TNT-Expatriate Lifestyle Charity Open is back. The hunt for the best amateur expatriate golfer for 2011 has begun!

The TNT- Expatriate Lifestyle Charity Open promises to be the most prestigious golfing event in the expatriate calendar. This exclusive annual event will be played at the Royal Selangor Golf Club on 20 May 2011.

The day will consist of a gross and net competition, longest drive, hole-in-one and closest to the pin. The fantastic goodie bag, competitions and prizes will be sponsored by prestigious Malaysian and international lifestyle brands like Etihad, AsiaWebDirect.com, Biotherm , City Golf and others

At just RM 500 per player registration fee we are limiting participation to 100 players to ensure a quality golfing experience at one of the best golf courses Malaysia

"After our successful launch last year, The TNT-Expatriate Lifestyle Charity Open is now firmly established as one of the most important golfing event in the expatriate calendar. We attract some of the best amateur expatriate golfers in the region, competing for big prizes at Asia's oldest and best known golf club. Plus, we raise important funds for three very worthy children's charities.

This is a day you don't want to miss". Said,Graham Paling, Managing Director of Mongoose Publishing Sdn Bhd, the publishers of Expatriate Lifestyle.

Last year, over 80 of the best amateur expatriate golfers in Malaysia had a great time playing on one of the best courses in the country and won great prizes, including a golfing holiday at one of the best golf resorts in the world. The proceeds, RM 30,000 were donated to three selected charities; Rumah Nur Salam, Precious Childrens Home and Islami Taufiq Institut.

This year the target is 100 amateur expatriate golfers and a minimum of RM 40,000 for Rumah Nur Salam, Precious Children's Home & Puchong Learning Centre Rumah Nur Salam provides a safe and healthy environment to all the children in the Chow Kit area. Over 400 children are currently enrolled at Rumah Nur Salam. Each day about 50 to 100 children will visit the centre. Most of the children are originally from Chow Kit and come from one-parent homes. Many of them are the children of sex workers or drug addicts.

Precious Children's Home currently houses 32 children ranging from 4 to 18 years old. They are housed at 2 separate homes. The main home has 14 kids aged 4 to 12 and there are 18 kids aged 13 to 18 in a second home. The children come from various races and backgrounds. They all attend school, from kindergarten to secondary school. These children are mostly orphans or are from the streets or whose parents are drug addicts, alcoholics, undergoing rehabilitation program or in prison.

The Puchong Learning Centre is a safe haven for underprivileged children and orphans living with relatives in extreme poverty.

Aiming to provide the children with at least 1 meal a day, the center is 100% dependant on volunteers for both material resources and physical. On a weekly basis, regular volunteers teach basic English and Maths in hopes that the children will be able to at least hold a simple position in the retail scene instead of being left to roam the streets as most of these children fare rather poorly in school and are often left behind.

Gerry Power, Managing Director of TNT Malaysia is very excited about the Open, "Once again, we have set ourselves the dual challenge of finding the best expatriate golfer in Malaysia whilst striving to improve the lives of others. I am really looking forward to a day that promises to be one filled with fun, camaraderie and great golf on a world class course while helping deserving children's charities who support the most vulnerable in society".

Kuala Lumpur, August 2010: Say hello to The Best of Malaysia (BoM) 2010, the awards where the people's vote on all things travel and leisure are counted, where the vox populi decides the Best of Malaysia!

The awards take an overview of the Malaysian hospitality industry-hotels, beach resorts, attractions etc-and provide a 100 per cent people driven award system, the only one of its kind in the country.

The 2010 BoMs are under way and this year we've made it easier than ever to lodge your votes with easy drop down menus. We have 16 categories split into categories (listed below). Voting begins at the start of August with 'Open Fields' & drop down menus for each category so as to not influence the polls. All votes will be checked and entries will be vetted to ensure no unfair play. Then, on September 6 2010, polls close and votes will be counted to form a Shortlist. This Shortlist will comprise the five (or six or seven, depending if the vote is especially close) top outlets in each of the categories. Polls will then re-open with ONLY the shortlisted outlets on a 'drop-down' menu to decide who will be the eventual winner.

Votes from Stage One will be carried into Stage Two and added to additional votes cast. The outlet with the most overall votes will be declared the winner at a special Awards Ceremony in November just prior to the release of the December 'Best of Malaysia Special' Issue of the Expatriate Lifestyle magazine.

Every vote counts in the Best of Malaysia 2010 Awards – the ONLY awards in Malaysia which are free and fair and voted for by YOU, who visit and live in Malaysia. You can't buy these awards and the choices are purely down to the people. You can't get more democratic than that.

Vote now on http://www.expatriatelifestyle.com/vote/Best-of-Malaysia and keep your eye on the website and in Expatriate Lifestyle magazine for more updates.
