LTC Peter Clark's book Staff Monkeys, is a humorous chronological journal about Colonel Clark's various and unusual assignments during his deployment to the Middle East from April, 2005 through September 2009 while living and working in third world countries.

Colonel Clark says about his book, "Although it's a journal, it's not a typical military war journal. It's not a book about heroics but a sarcastic, sometimes irreverent, look at day-to-day life in the military in various combat zones from the view point of a middle-aged stockbroker enjoying a government paid midlife adventure."

Army Officer's Journal Receives Pulitzer Prize Nomination

In his book, Clark brings out the everyday antics of the military; “…if the road seems smooth, you’ve probably made a wrong turn.

Tampa, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/24/2010 -- Staff Monkeys, A Stockbroker's Journey Through the Global War on Terror written by Lt. Colonel Peter Clark and published by Patriot Media, Inc., Niceville, Florida, has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in the Letters category. Staff Monkeys is a chronological journal about Colonel Clark's various and unusual assignments during his deployment to East Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia, from April, 2005 through September 2009. Peter has a unique ability to not only see the lighter side of the military, but can describe it in a way that enlightens as well as entertains.

In his book, Clark brings out the everyday antics of the military; "…if the road seems smooth, you've probably made a wrong turn. Anyone who has served in the military understands that there is a right way, a wrong way and the "Army Way" to do things; and it's not always the most logical process." Peter hasn't had much time to celebrate his Pulitzer nomination; as he received word of the nomination, he was packing his bags for another short trip back to the Middle East.

"I'm thrilled that anybody would think what I wrote was worthy of any sort of nomination" said Peter after his recent return to the USA, "I just wrote to let my friends know what I was up to. It started out just as a way to reduce the stress and stay in touch. Everybody needs do have some sort of a diversion while they are forward. I happen to be able to see a little humor in most circumstances, so I write about it."

As far as future projects go, Colonel Clark plans on continuing to write down his thoughts as long as the army continues to deploy him. "I'd also like to help other people get their stories out" says Peter, "there are a lot of real good stories that are going to be lost unless we take some time and write them down."

Unsinkable Sailors Author Honored by Evans Survivors Association

About 250 people attended the reunion, including former crewmembers spanning the time from the ship’s commissioning.

Niceville, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/28/2010 -- Patriot Media author Paul Sherbo was honored recently by the USS Frank E. Evans (DD 754) Association, at their 18th annual reunion in San Diego on Sept. 16, 2010. A United States naval destroyer, the USS Frank E. Evans was cut in half on June 3, 1969, when it was rammed by the Australian aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne during a training exercise. The forward section quickly sank. Seventy-four lives were lost.

The group presented Paul a certificate for his "dedication to producing an unbiased publication which has helped survivors to better understand the series of events that led up to and followed the collision." Sherbo's book on the collision, 'Unsinkable Sailors: The fall and rise of the last crew of the USS Frank E. Evans,' was published by Patriot Media in 2009, the 40th anniversary of the tragedy. He relied on official records and personal interviews to tell the story.

About 250 people attended the reunion, including former crewmembers spanning the time from the ship's commissioning. Family members of some of the sailors who were lost also attended, as well as five crewmembers from the Melbourne. In presenting the award, Association President J.C. Campbell said, "You have demonstrated excellence in your commitment to our Association through the publication of Unsinkable Sailors."

Paul Sherbo, a former US Naval Reserve Captain, retired from the Navy in 2006 and lives in Colorado with his wife, Diana Carlson-Sherbo, and their three children.

Staff Monkeys: a Journey Through the Middle East With Humor and Satire

Active duty U.S. Army officer publishes humorous book about serving in the military. entitled Staff Monkeys: A Stockbroker's Journey Through The Global War On Terror. Originally entering the Army in 1985, he served until 1997, then was recalled to active duty in 2005. Colonel Peter Clark is being released in September of 2010 by Patriot Media, Inc., an independent publisher doing business in Niceville, Florida.

Staff Monkeys is a chronological journal about Colonel Clark's various and unusual assignments during his deployment to the Middle East and Central Asia from April, 2005 through September 2009, in support of the Global War on Terror. Not a typical military war journal, it is a somewhat sarcastic and extremely humorous description of Clark's military deployments.

According to LTC Clark "Somewhere between the general with the brilliant idea and the soldier taking the fight to the enemy, are staffs who translate those bright ideas into actionable plans – The Staff Monkeys."

One reviewer said of Staff Monkeys, "I haven't read anything this funny about serving in the military since Bill Mauldin's Willie and Joe." War is a very serious business, but there are some strange and comical things that occur, and Peter Clark tells about them in a very entertaining way.

Colonel Clark is currently assigned to the Army's Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT), MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. Originally entering the Army in 1985, he served until 1997, then was recalled to active duty in 2005.

Between military tours, he worked as a stockbroker in California. When asked why he wrote the book he said, "I promised everybody in my office at the brokerage firm I would keep them posted on what I was up to when I was recalled. One deployment led to another and after a few years, and a lot of updates, my friends encouraged me to make my journal into a book to show that even in war, there is also humor if you look for it."
