Rosendin Electric Begins Work on $80 Million UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay Project

New Showcase Medical Facility Designed to Meet LEED Gold Standards and Include Latest “Smart” Hospital Technology

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/27/2011 -- Rosendin Electric (http://www.rosendin.com), the nation's largest private electrical contractor and a 100-percent employee-owned company, has started construction on the new University of California San Francisco Medical Center at Mission Bay. The $80 million contract to wire the new 878,000-square-foot hospital complex includes an energy center, helipad, and support services. Scheduled for completion in 2014, the first phase of this $1.6 billion project is construction of a 289-bed hospital, specializing in care for women, children and cancer patients.

The new UCSF Medical Center has been designed to meet LEED Gold certification standards through the use of recycled materials, low-voltage lighting controls, and the widespread use of energy-efficient electrical and HVAC equipment. The new Medical Center at Mission Bay will incorporate the latest "smart" hospital technology, including wireless Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) to provide Electronic Medical Record (EMR) access via touch-screen patient information systems located at each bed. Rosendin Electric's contract includes installation of the hospital's IT infrastructure and DAS to support this state-of-the-art EMR system, as well as a new patient profile system that lists preferences for things such as food, lighting and television channels.

Rosendin Electric was one of the initial developers to work on preconstruction of this project as a member of the Integrated Center for Design & Construction (ICDC). ICDC included more than 100 architects, engineers, construction managers, and subcontractors who created a Building Information Model (BIM) of the entire Medical Center. As a result, the team was able to reduce the cost of the overall project by $100 million prior to the start of construction.

"The UCSF Medical Center will ultimately be a showcase for the latest technology and best practices," said Marty Potter, Project Executive for Rosendin Electric. "We have already demonstrated the incredible savings from collaborative preconstruction modeling, and we are using the latest green construction practices for LEED certification. When this project is completed in 2014, it will be something that we all can be proud of."

Four Rosendin Electric Projects Recognized as Construction and Design Winners by California Construction Magazine

Rosendin Electric’s Work Helps Garner Five Awards, including Overall Top Project and Three Best of 2010 Awards for Construction Projects

San Jose, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/15/2010 -- Rosendin Electric (http://www.rosendin.com), the nation's largest private electrical contractor and a 100-percent employee-owned company, today announced that four of its commercial construction projects received honors from California Construction magazine, including Best Overall Project and three Best of 2010 awards. In all, Rosendin Electric projects garnered five awards in four categories, including Best Overall Project, Best Government/Public Building project, Best Transportation Project, and two Healthcare awards for Best Project and an Award of Merit.

The Mineta San Jose International Airport Terminal Area Improvement Program was singled out as both the winner in the Transportation category and the Best Overall Project. The $1.3 billion San Jose International Airport project included more than $100 million in electrical work. Rosendin Electric was responsible for installing new power systems for Terminals A and B, a new security system, a new baggage handling system, telecommunications, a security camera system, lighting controls, as well as all the power systems, lighting, and traffic controls systems for the airport roadway.

As part of the Mineta Airport project, Rosendin Electric provided wiring for the new 1.8 million square-foot rental care center, including the 1.12 megawatt photovoltaic solar (PV) electric system on the roof. Canadian Solar recently honored the Rosendin Electric team with a Grand Prize for their PV work on the airport rental car center. The new Terminal B Concourse also received LEED® Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for sustainability features such as occupancy lighting sensors, a programmable lighting control system, and "smart" heating and cooling systems.

In the Government/Public Building category, the winning project was the San Joaquin County Administration Building in Stockton, which consolidated several support and service departments into a new, more efficient, user-friendly facility. The design/build project included installation of the county court data center on the third floor, complete with a generator backup system. The Administration Building was named Project of the Year by the American Public Works for structures between $25 million and $75 million, and it also has received LEED Gold certification.

In the Healthcare category, the Laguna Honda Replacement Hospital in San Francisco was named winner. This project was managed by Turner Construction, and Rosendin Electric was subcontracted for the electrical build-out of this new 1,200-bed facility as well 140 assisted living units. Laguna Honda is the first green-certified hospital in California, having received Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in June.

The El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California, also received an Award of Merit from California Construction. Rudolph and Sletten was the contractor on this $470 million project, and Rosendin Electric was responsible for all the electrical design/build, including installation of a network services infrastructure that ties the entire 250,000-square-foot facility together into a single "smart" hospital. The facility includes a number of hospital information management innovations, such as bedside computers with real-time medical records processing and electronic beds with built-in translators in 22 languages.

"All successful construction projects are a team effort, and we were delighted to have made our contribution to some of the most successful public projects completed in California this year," said Larry Beltramo, President and COO of Rosendin Electric.

California Construction magazine selected this year's winners from more than 135 nominated projects with the help of an independent jury of industry experts.

KST Electric Signs Contract to Wire New Data Foundry Data Center in Austin

Rosendin Electric's Texas Subsidiary Signs New Contract to Build Out New State-of-the-Art Data Facility

AUSTIN, TX -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/04/2010 -- KST Electric, Ltd. (http://www.kstelectric.com), a subsidiary of announced today it has signed a contract with Data Foundry (http://www.datafoundry.com), a leading provider of wholesale and retail data center outsourcing, co-location, and disaster recovery service, to wire the first phase of a $150 million data center in Austin, Texas. This project named Austin Data Center 2 (ADC2) is the first of a multi-phase construction project that will become a new, 250,000 square-foot master-planned greenfield data center – the only purpose-built, carrier-neutral data center in central Texas.

ADC2 is built upon a next-generation, 40-acre campus called the Data Ranch, which when completed will have capabilities to deliver over 100 megawatts of power to over one million square feet of data center space. In addition, the fully redundant ADC2 is powered by two independent substations and will feature an end-to-end underground power supply offering resilient and scalable power options.

KST Electric will be responsible for wiring the entire first phase of ADC2, including providing flexible power delivery for rooms from 2,500 square feet and up, as well as flexible power redundancy from N+1 to 2N+1 configurations. The first phase of ADC2 will support 12 MW of utility power with two redundant 12 MW feeds into the building and two independent substations, each independently connected to the ERCOT grid. All data and telecom cabling will be underground in a concrete-encased duct.

A unique feature of the current build-out is that unlike most construction projects, much of the wiring is in the open rather than hidden behind walls. Data Foundry plans to display key power rooms during tours and use KST Electric's handiwork to showcase the wiring versatility and power capabilities of its new greenfield data center for prospective tenants.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for KST to not only demonstrate our prowess at wiring a mission-critical project such as the new Data Foundry data center, but it also gives us a rare opportunity to display our work," said Kenneth Tumlinson, President of KST Electric.

"With the demand for high-quality data center and disaster recovery services from companies nationwide, we decided to build our new facility from the ground up, rather than compromising quality by retrofitting an existing building," said Edward Henigin, Chief Technology Officer for Data Foundry. "We set out to build a state-of-the-art facility that competes with the best in the world. After a rigorous evaluation process, we chose KST Electric for its expertise and dedication to excellence. Together we plan to make our new Austin facility a showcase unrivaled in the Central Texas region."

KST Electric is working with Holder Construction Company, a leading data center contractor with projects across the United States. Gensler is handling architectural design, and CCG Facilities Integration is providing engineering services for the project.
