Wind Power India 2011' to Chart Roadmap for Additional 50 Gw by 2020

Bangalore, Karnataka -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/16/2011 -- The National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) announced in June 2008 by the Govt. of India proposes increasing the share of renewable energy (RE) in the total energy mix to 15% by 2020. In order to achieve this, NAPCC recommends pegging the minimum share of RE in the national grid at 5%, starting from 2009-10, to be increased by 1% per annum in the following years so as to reach 15% by 2020. This requires a quantum jump in RE generation across the country.

Wind power which has witnessed a phenomenal growth in India over the past few years could make a significant contribution towards the shift to a low-carbon and energy secure future. The country's current cumulative installed capacity is 13 GW (as on Dec 2010), reaching 64 GW by 2020 (as per GWEC estimates). The current annual wind power market is about 2200 MW with forecasts predicting a 5000 MW annual market by 2015 (research done by the World Institute of Sustainable Energy). As per NAPCC, if India needs to achieve 15% RE by 2020, wind's contribution to the total energy mix would need to transcend even greater heights, requiring an additional installed capacity of almost 50 GW by 2020, over and above the present level! Achievement of the NAPCC target thus poses several challenges to the states as well as policy makers and regulators, and wind industry stakeholders in India, who would need to rise up to the occasion and develop suitable strategies, policies and regulations to meet the NAPCC target. This includes a major focus on augmenting the power evacuation/grid facilities and transmission planning, availability of non-recourse project financing and skilled manpower, speedy and appropriate implementation of the latest policy/regulatory measures such as renewable energy certificates (RECs) [linked with state-specific renewable purchase specification (RPS) with penal provisions for non-compliance], the Indian Electricity Grid Code (IEGC) 2010, etc.

To understand, deliberate and discuss all these critical issues and challenges related to the role of wind power in attaining the 50 GW mark by 2020, the World Institute of Sustainable Energy (WISE), Pune, in association with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), and the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers' Association (IWTMA) is organising WIND POWER INDIA 2011 from 7–9 April 2011 at the Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai. The event would witness the presence of 1000+ delegates, around 100 exhibitors and nearly 100+ renowned speakers from the national and international wind industry.

The opening day of the conference is highlighted by the main panel discussion on the role that wind power would play in achieving the 15% RE target by 2020.
Applied Materials and Magma Integrate CAD and Inspection Systems for Faster Yield Ramp at Advanced Nodes

Bangalore, Karnataka -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/10/2011 -- Applied Materials, Inc. and Magma Design Automation, Inc. announced today that they have integrated Magma's CAD (computer-aided design)-based navigation and yield analysis software with Applied's advanced inspection systems. This unique combination of design and manufacturing tools has accelerated lithography qualification and improved chip yields at multiple customers for the development and production of advanced technology nodes.

"The introduction of CAD-based inspection technology for defect analysis and monitoring at GLOBALFOUNDRIES Fab 1 has helped improve defect management efficiency and reduce cycle time for process optimization," said Remo Kirsch, manager of Contamination Free Manufacturing at GLOBALFOUNDRIES Fab 1 in Dresden, Germany. "Both our production and development lines now rely on this technology to help guarantee process quality and yield stability."

As device features shrink, achieving acceptable yields becomes increasingly challenging. Complex interactions between process conditions and design produces "hot spots" – areas where the printed pattern deviates from the design intent – which must be eliminated before a chip can go into production. Integrating design and real-time inspection data provides customers with an innovative way to identify hot spots in a production environment and improve their product qualification process. In addition, the conditions that produce hot spots can be fed back to the design process – improving subsequent designs. This is a critical benefit in today's fast-changing, high-mix chip fabrication operations.

"As product development cycles become shorter and shorter, the game has changed from yield maximization to yield ramp," said Ronen Benzion, vice president and general manager of Applied's Process Diagnostics and Control Business Unit. "Our groundbreaking work with Magma will help our customers speed their new products to market and reduce time-to-revenue."

"Without the ability to overcome litho qualification roadblocks rapidly, 22nm designs will be extremely time-consuming and expensive to bring to volume production," said Ankush Oberai, general manager and vice president of Magma's Fab Analysis Business Unit. "By combining Magma's CAD-based analysis technology with Applied's advanced defect inspection and review systems, we can compress design cycles and accelerate learning for future product generations."

Tektronix Communications Partners With Groundhog Technologies to Solve Radio Access Network Challenges

Bangalore, Karnataka -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/22/2011 -- New Application Provides Increased Levels of Accuracy on Geolocation Platform

Tektronix Communications, a leading worldwide leader in Network Intelligence and communications test solutions, today announced an innovative geolocation monitoring application as part of its OptiMon suite. With this addition, Tektronix Communications provides operators with unprecedented deep-dive analysis that correlates all related radio and subscriber-level information into a single geo-located view in just a few mouse-clicks. This unique combination of expertise and ease-of-use will drastically improve Operator's approach to fault isolation for RAN Optimization.

With ongoing pressures to maintain Customer Satisfaction (CSAT), operators must avoid the guesswork involved in isolating issues in order to reduce their mean time to repair (MTTR). As a result, a more accurate understanding of the radio network's performance allows operators to react more quickly and eliminate any lengthy trial and error troubleshooting procedures. For example, having the accuracy to delineate between indoor or outdoor signal qualities can be the difference between proactively solving an issue BEFORE the subscriber is impacted vs. receiving a subscriber complaint that can lead to customer churn.

"There are many reasons for subscribers to experience poor service quality," said Richard Kenedi, Vice President, Test & Optimization, Tektronix Communications. "But with accurate data, issues can be quickly resolved. This innovative geolocation solution accurately pinpoints poor user experience with high geographical resolution through the patented technology from Groundhog Technologies. This not only gives operators quicker resolution time, but will contribute to improving subscriber satisfaction."

Developed by Groundhog Technologies, the geolocation application incorporates Google Earth 3D visualization, which enhances operators' analytical capability on the geographical map. Integrated with OptiMon analysis capability, this combined, innovative application provides operators with the detailed information of dropped calls as well as the location and cell site in which the call was dropped.

A solution built for Network Performance & Optimization teams, the OptiMon solution's rich set of parameters are essential in all critical service stages from network roll out to network upgrades. This includes future-proofing LTE centralized optimization SON use cases.

Other application examples and features include:

- Drop Call Visualization: Provides visualization of drop call severity on map and filtering by selecting the required regions to be displayed for analysis.

- Cell Statistics: Allows engineers to determine quality of the network based on actual traffic and drop call rates.

- Cause of Drop Call: Helps engineers identify root cause of network issues for troubleshooting.

- Cell Level Drop Call Analysis: Facilitates classification of cell coverage quality by analyzing drop call types and prioritizing sites for optimization.

"Tektronix Communications and Groundhog Technologies have combined strength with revolutionary technology for solving radio access network challenges," said David Chiou, CEO, Groundhog Technologies. "With this collaboration, we developed a solution that provides over 90 percent accuracy for indoor coverage analysis – the highest available – for immediate deployment, which will exceed operator's demands for network test and optimization and ultimately assure a reduction in subscriber churn."

The OptiMon Suite and CovMo, the new Coverage Optimization application, will be available for demonstrations at the Tektronix Communications booth (1D59) from February 14-17 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Tektronix Introduces New Signal Analyzer With Superior Price, Performance

Tektronix, Inc., a leading innovator of signal generation and analysis solutions required for the microwave and RF industry, today announced a significant expansion of its spectrum and vector signal analysis offerings with the introduction of the new RSA5000 Series Signal Analyzer.

Banagalore, Karnataka -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/06/2011 -- Tektronix Introduces New Signal Analyzer with Superior Price, Performance

New RSA5000 Series Offers Double the Acquisition Bandwidth of Any Signal Analyzer in Comparable Price Range and Best Real-Time Capabilities

Tektronix, Inc., a leading innovator of signal generation and analysis solutions required for the microwave and RF industry, today announced a significant expansion of its spectrum and vector signal analysis offerings with the introduction of the new RSA5000 Series Signal Analyzer. The new instruments raise the price-performance bar for mid-range signal analyzers by offering more than double currently available acquisition bandwidth and the world's best real time capabilities. By combining reduced time-to-insight and lower cost, the new series is ideal for numerous design and operations applications including spectrum management, radar, electronic warfare, radio communications and EMI/EMC.

As RF signals become increasingly complex and the use of ISM band technologies more ubiquitous, it is crucial that designers, engineers and operators are able to reliably and efficiently discover transient spectral phenomena created by digital RF circuitry over increasingly wider operational bandwidths. Traditional signal analyzers are unable to trigger on transient problems and the maximum available acquisition bandwidth in the mid-range is just 40 MHz. Featuring advanced time, amplitude, and DPX™ trigger functions combined with swept DPX, the RSA5000 Series delivers discovery and capture of these intermittent and rapidly changing signals and up to 85 MHz bandwidth. This bandwidth now covers the entire ISM band where common technologies are used, such as, Bluetooth, Zigbee, RFID, and Wireless LAN.

"With the RSA5000 Series we're changing the definition of what's possible in a mid-range signal analyzer," said Bob Hiebert, director of marketing, Sources/Analyzers Product Line, Tektronix. "Offering the deepest insight into live RF signals with swept DPX and advanced triggering, the widest signal capture bandwidth, and the largest signal capture memory, the RSA5000 Series gives customers many high-end features at a manageable price point -- the perfect solution in a time of limited capital budgets."
Real-Time Transient Discovery

The DPX Live RF spectrum display of the RSA5000 Series signal analyzer allows quick detection of previously unseen signal behavior, and improves test confidence by catching very short duration transients missed by conventional spectrum analyzers. The Swept DPX engine can collect up to 292,000 spectrum updates per second over its full bandwidth, up to 85 MHz, and can sweep the DPX across the full input range of the RSA5000 Series, up to 6.2 GHz. DPX is capable of measuring spectral transients as brief as 5.8 µs.

To capture transients for analysis, the RSA5000 Series offers frequency mask, frequency-edge, density, time-qualified and runt triggers. It can also be used to isolate hard to find hardware and software anomalies with cross domain triggering between multiple instruments. It can capture a seamless time record of RF frequencies into deep memory for up to 7 seconds at 85 MHz bandwidth.

For faster troubleshooting, the RSA5000 Series provides the ability to analyze captured data in any domain at any time with correlated markers. Automatic pulse measurement and detection helps to simplify and save test time by supporting multiple measurements on the same set of captured data. This reduces the cost of test by providing a single versatile instrument that replaces multiple test sets.

Along with wide bandwidth and DPX display, the RSA5000 Series offers leading spectrum and vector signal analysis with +17 dBm TOI and -154 dBm/Hz DANL at 1 GHz along with superior low frequency performance with phase noise of -131 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset, -150 dBm DANL at 10 MHz carrier frequency.
