Windows System Restore: A Utility Feature for Undoing Changes

Windows System Restore: A utility feature for undoing changes

Vancouver, British Columbia -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/03/2010 -- System restoring is process of recovering the PC from damaged, failed, corrupted files. The Windows system restore feature is one among many great features for solving major recovering problems in your PC like Windows Registry, device drivers, or DLL files With the system restore option in Windows operating system, the users can recover the PC by creating snapshots, or restore points of the computer at regular intervals or before installation of certain task. This feature helps to restore computer to a previously known working state without affecting personal data including word document, messages, bookmark list, email-settings, videos, music and so on. This saves users considerable time and money in comparison to reinstalling of applications and operating system.

The system restoration in Windows XP takes snapshots of parts known as "system state or restore point". The file filter driver in System Restore XP watches file changes for file extensions. By default, System Restore works well on hard drives that possess 200 megabytes of free disk space available after installation. This is because the space is used for storing data which is gathered from restore points and works till the space is full. Therefore, allocation of more space for restore feature is considered better in terms of protection and performance.

The shadow copy feature well defines the Microsoft Windows Vista's improved interface for restoring the snapshots. The feature allows recovery from greater range of changes when compared with file filter technology of Windows XP. The benefit of using Shadow Copy feature over earlier version is that block-level changes are done in files. Moreover, it is located in directory where the volume can be monitored. A shadow copy is a previous working state of file or folder at a specific point. Unlike XP, the Windows Vista can request restore points automatically or when asked. This enhances system integration with other aspects of backup and recovery.

The system restore in Windows7 is a system back-up tool. This defines that personal files or programs which are deleted or damaged before can not be recovered. This feature prevents hours of troubleshooting problems of the users. The restoring of system does not affect documents, pictures, bookmarks, emails or other data.

By default, system restore is switched "ON" when Windows 7 is installed. It is advised that users must always double-check it. Before installing programs and drivers on your PC, the user must make sure that "System Protection" feature is enabled. This creates and saves information about the files and settings on system. The system restore helps the users to see exactly which files are needed to be removed or add. The Microsoft Windows 7 add one useful feature to its list i.e. restore points that track the changes to files and folders, enabling the users to go back to previous working versions.

System Restore: Bringing System to Workable State

Vancouver, British Columbia -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/02/2010 -- Restoring of a system has become easier like never before. With the system restore feature, one can restore the computer's system files to an earlier point when everything was working properly. It can be said that one can undo system changes without affecting any personal files like email, documents, word document, messages, bookmark list, videos, music or photos. The main idea behind restoring PC is to bring the system back to a workable state without re-installing operating system or loosing the data files from it. Importantly, one must opt for restoring option after trying comprehensive methods of troubleshooting. Cautiously, while performing restoring feature, many files and registry entries are changed from the system and some case, system might replace more files than needed for restoration.

The System restore is a part of Microsoft's Windows operating system. The Windows like Me, XP, Vista and Windows 7 allows to roll back the system files, registry keys, installed programs, etc., to a previous state in the event of system failure. While performing the system restore feature, the user can create a new restore point manually which can roll back the system to an existing point. Moreover, it can change the System Restore configuration.

Based on System Protection feature, it helps the computer to create and save restore points on regular basis. The points include information about registry settings and system information which is needed by Windows. The operating systems like Windows XP, Vista, and 7 can create restore points automatically but these points don't hurt manually created points prior to installing or uninstalling of hardware/software. These points contain information about registry settings and other system information that are being used by Windows.

The System Restore works better on Microsoft Windows 7 when compared with other versions. Creating more restore points help the users to check out what files were removed or added when PC was restored. For more security purpose,Windows System Restore feature is recommended. This safeguards personal files like e-mail, pictures, documents, and other files. The operating system Windows Vista is backed with Shadow Copy technology which is an improved interface over file filter technology. The shadow copy technology is based on the block-level changes in files. The volume can be monitored as it is located in any directory.

System Restore Vista: Backed With Improved Interface

System Restore Vista: Backed with improved interface

Vancouver, BC -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/20/2010 -- System Restore feature is used to recover the system by creating snapshots, or restore points of the computer at various intervals or before installation of certain task. By using this feature, one can restore the computer to a previously known working state. This saves considerable time and money compared to reinstalling of applications and operating system. The feature saves spreadsheets, documents, images, and music as it affects Windows Registry, programs, and system files.

When compared with file filter driver as a system restore in Windows XP, the Microsoft Windows Vista brings the shadow copy feature which is an improved interface for restoring the snapshots. This feature of Vista allows recovery from greater range of changes than in Windows XP. The advantage of using Shadow Copy is that block-level changes are done in files and it is located in directory where the volume can be monitored. Some of the major issues in Windows Vista are caused by problems of Windows Registry, device drivers, and DLL files. When restore point is created, a current copy of these files are saved which have been restored using the feature System Restore Vista. Importantly, restoration of system is not intended for backing up personal files, so you cannot recover a personal file that has been deleted or damaged.

In Windows Vista, a shadow copy of a file or folder is created when a restore point is requested. To define a shadow copy, it is essentially a previous version of the file or folder at a specific point. The best part is that Vista can request restore points automatically or when asked. In the case of system restoration, files and settings are copied from the shadow copy to the live volume which is used by Windows Vista. This enhances system integration with other aspects of backup and recovery.

This system restore feature is automatically enabled in the Microsoft Windows Vista. Depending upon the need, one can enable or disable the feature by using the System Protection tab on the System Properties control panel. By default, the space reserved for Windows Vista system restore is 15% of the volume's size. Therefore, shadow copy feature will also not run on disks smaller than 1 GB or on disk that is not formatted with the NTFS file system.
