Perfectionism Just Magnifies Fear of Public Speaking: It's Just Plain Stupid, Public Speaking Expert Says

Public speaking experts CTRN today released the latest in their series of free online lessons about speaking fear at ConfidentlySpeaking.com. Titled "Perfectionism Is Really Stupid", the new lesson shows viewers how to flourish when they make mistakes in public speaking.

Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/03/2010 -- CTRN: Change That's Right Now today releases "Perfectionism Is Really Stupid", the latest in their video series "Confidently Speaking" - short video tutorials on how to overcome stage fright and fear of public speaking.

The vast majority of people hate to speak in public, and when they do, their greatest fear is making a terrible mistake. Naturally, they work on trying to be perfect. But Seymour Segnit, Founder and President of CTRN (http://ChangeThatsRightNow.com), argues that striving for perfection is counterproductive.

"I'm not saying your shouldn't try to be your best when giving a talk," Segnit says, "but the anxious energy that often goes into trying to make something absolutely perfect is totally counterproductive."

Segnit advises people with public speaking fear not to get hung up on small gaffes and speaking mistakes. He says the best public speakers just move right on, or else brush off a bad mistake with humor. The latest video lesson can be viewed online at http://ConfidentlySpeaking.com .

"If you look at the very best speakers out there," Segnit says, "those with the most powerful stage presence - say Barack Obama or Tony Robbins - they make mistakes, and they make them all the time - but it makes no difference to their momentum and their message."

"Just be as good as you can and enjoy the ride," he says.

Segnit's company, CTRN: Change That's Right Now, teaches people with the worst cases of stage fright to overcome the fear of public speaking. CTRN has launched this new series of video lessons to help anyone deal with the stress of speaking in public.

"There is lots of help out there for public speaking," he says. "But little of it deals with the psychological aspects of giving a speech - managing your emotional state as you speak - and that's where people need the most help."

Segnit's video lessons run from two to five minutes long, and are available through his "Confidently Speaking" video blog at http://ConfidentlySpeaking.com . This lesson can also be seen on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSgf7Mnq_g8

Fear Of Flying – Pictures of Qantas A380 Engine Failure Serve to Make Flying Phobias Even Worse, Claims Expert

Widely circulated pictures of a Qantas A380 Airbus with a demolished Rolls-Royce engine hanging from its wing only serves to fuel the flames of flying phobia.

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/15/2010 -- CTRN: Change That's Right Now, the expert phobia treatment organization, has responded to the recent Qantas mid-flight scare explaining the link between dramatic air-disaster news events and the mind's own mechanism for creating intense fear of flying.

Fear of Flying is unusual among serious phobias because hardly any of the people who have it have actually experienced a real traumatic event on a plane. An intense past experience is one of the leading causes of all phobias, but not, it seems, of flying fear.

"Almost all of the people who come to us for help with fear of flying run vivid 'disaster movies' inside their mind," says Seymour Segnit, Founder and President of CTRN: Change That's Right Now ( http://CTRN.com/Fear-of-Flying/ ). "The truth is, no-one really has a fear of flying, they have a powerful fear of crashing, and it is fueled by powerful internal pictures and movies that scare them to death."

Segnit continues, "This is true of all phobias – but often phobics have real-life experience to trigger the fear: they have been bitten by a dog, lost control of a car or been embarrassed in front of an audience. But we've never had a single case where the client had actually been on a plane that got into real trouble."

Segnit's team at CTRN know the impact created by aviophobia-inducing movies. People with fear of flying play these scenes in their heads - images inadvertently 'installed' by the media. Planes dramatically disintegrating are the core of TV dramas and movies, the networks and 24-hour cable news channels. The perfect images for the flying-phobia inclined.

The shaky cell-phone 'reality' movies from inside another Qantas flight which landed safely a few months ago after developing a large hole in the fuselage are a perfect example, according to Mr Segnit:

"To overcome fear of flying, it is critical to understand exactly how you are creating the fear. Vivid disaster movies in which you imagine yourself right in the middle of a terrifying situation are the trademark of almost all phobia cases. But the movies and pictures have to come from somewhere, and as flying is so incredibly safe, you are either making stuff up, or playing over visuals you have seen in the media."

CTRN has advice online at http://CTRN.com and offers the following advice to fearful flyers:

1. Never ignore your doctor's advice, but go easy on the drugs and eliminate them if you can. There is no drug designed specifically for fear of flying, so any you take won't get to the root cause, and may have significant side effects.

2. Understand that the thinking comes first, not the fear. If you notice the fear starting, just thinking nice stuff won't make a really big difference. You need to immediately interrupt the fearful thought patterns. Do that dramatically enough and the mind will break the neurological associations at the heart of the problem.

3. Get specialist help – and make sure the solution you choose gets to those internal thoughts, pictures and movies; they are the root cause of your flying phobia.

"We're thrilled how easy our clients find overcoming Fear of Flying," says Segnit: "Just be truly committed to successfully overcoming your aviophobia, then with the right guidance you can quickly learn to vanquish the patterns of thinking that were triggering a fear response when they think about flying."

Go BIG or Go Home! Fear of Public Speaking Expert Says "Fill the Room" and Feel Stage Fright Fall Away

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/08/2010 -- CTRN: Change That's Right Now announced today the posting of "Go BIG or Go Home", the latest in their video blog series "Confidently Speaking" - a program of short video trainings on how to overcome Fear of Public Speaking and Stage Fright.

"Most folks miss the very simplest way to improve both their own experience AND what their audience feels when they speak," says Seymour Segnit, who is featured as trainer in the Confidently Speaking video series (http://ConfidentlySpeaking.com) and Founder & President of CTRN, publishers of the Vanquish Fear & Anxiety program. "Its simple: you have to 'grow' or 'expand' yourself to fill the room. Even with a pro audio system, the people at the back of the room won't feel your presence if it seems like you're just speaking to the front few rows."

Segnit has spoken to audiences on four continents and has customers in 73 countries. Although each individual is different, he claims the same basic rules governing public speaking fear apply to all.

By "Going Big", speakers find that not only does the audience get a much more engaging presentation - but their own emotional state shifts, making stage fright a thing of the past.

"The techniques are very simple and they are powerful," says a recent client from Birmingham, AL. "With repetition... they will work 100%."

Segnit encourages clients to work with the techniques, and CTRN's team is available to work either one-on-one in CTRN's "VIP" program, or with the critically acclaimed Vanquish Speaking Fear & Performance Anxiety program, which is available both as a home-study CD program and for immediate download at: http://CTRN.com/Fear-of-Public-Speaking/

"It's amazing how quickly people are able to overcome even really bad fear of public speaking," says Segnit. "Performance Anxiety can have a huge impact on anyone's career and self-confidence, and we're thrilled to help people all over the world to get over it fast."

Overcoming Public Speaking Fear: The Secret Is Practicing How You'll Feel, Not What You'll Say, Claims Expert

Fear of public speaking can affect almost anyone - but most folk ignore the fact that with stage fright the problem isn't the 'stage', its the 'fright'. CTRN's latest Confidently Speaking video blog post teaches a little known technique for overcoming performance anxiety.

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/05/2010 -- CTRN: Change That's Right Now, announces the release of 'Emotional Rehearsal', the latest in their video series 'Confidently Speaking' - a series of short video trainings on how to overcome stage fright and fear of public speaking.

"You know you should rehearse any kind of talk, speech, or presentation," says Seymour Segnit, creator of the Confidently Speaking video series ( http://ConfidentlySpeaking.com ) and Founder & President of CTRN, publishers of the Vanquish Speaking Fear & Performance Anxiety program. "What most people don't understand is that you can actually pick the emotions you want to feel when you are speaking, not just the words you want to say. It is a simple yet very powerful technique."

CTRN has taught its clients the 'Success Scenario' system for many years - literally getting them to choose and rehearse in advance every aspect of how their speech or presentation will be, including the feelings they will experience.

Instead of the gut-wrenching fear of speaking or presentation anxiety normally felt, CTRN's clients remain clear-headed and confident in front of an audience.

"For years I could not prevent the anxiety from speeding into motion," says recent client Pat Smith. "Your course illuminates the missing link... the power of our subconscious mind to respond to stimuli."

"We are delighted by how easily folks are able to overcome the fear of performing in front of others," says Segnit, "Public speaking fear is such a career-killing problem, we're very proud to help people around the globe to overcome stage fright forever."
