Security Management Consulting Announces 'Preparing for the NC SP-FA/LV Electrical Examination' 2011 Course Schedule and Registration

The North Carolina Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors has approved the security training experts at Security Management Consulting to teach the North Carolina SP-FA/LV Electrical Examination course.

Raleigh, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/27/2011 -- Security Management Consulting (http://www.secmgmt.com), a Fortune 5000 company providing leading-edge commercial security design and training, has released 2011 North Carolina SP-FA/LV course schedule.

'Preparing for the NC SP-FA/LV Electrical Examination' reviews subject areas covering the NEC applicable to the SP-LV (special low voltage) classification examination, as well as administrative requirements of the NCBEEC. The course focuses on the NEC requirements for the installation of low-voltage and power-limited circuits for fire alarm and security systems.

In addition, it also addresses other subject areas as described by the NCBEEC in their information for applicants and as of 2011, licensees in the SP-FA/LV classification must complete four hours of continuing education each year to qualify for renewal.

At the conclusion of the course, attendees should have a clearer understanding of installation and wiring methods for these systems, including requirements from other important NEC Articles. This course covers NEC, in great detail and is very fast-paced. The course is designed to help people pass the examination, as well as educate new and older employees in the company.

'Preparing for the NC SP-FA/LV Electrical Examination' course is recommended for serious students who are familiar with NEC and will be presented on the following days at the Security Management Consulting Training Facility on Blue Ridge Avenue in Raleigh:

- March 9, 2011

- April 7, 2011

- May 11, 2011

- June 16, 2011

Security Management Consulting strongly recommends that students bring a copy of the Code (2008) to class in order to participate in exercises.

"This course is an excellent method of reviewing the material for continuing education credit towards SP-FA/LV license renewal," noted Kile Unterzuber, CPP, SET, CFPS, Vice President of Business Development and Training. "It features in-depth teaching along with an audio-visual presentation with open discussion."

Please make note that the SP-FA/LV license classification has been changed to SP-FA/LV (Special restricted Fire Alarm/Low-Voltage). The license examination now includes 15 questions about fire alarm systems and the National Fire Alarm Code (NFPA 72). This course has been updated to place increased emphasis on fire alarm systems. However, license applicants who do not have significant previous fire alarm system experience should consider taking a separate introductory or review class that goes into more detail about the subject.

To register for the class – or for more information – please call 877-788-9200 or visit our website (http://www.secmgmt.com) and download the registration form in PDF format.

Security Management Consulting Recognized for Designing Security System in the Award Winning Duke Energy Center Project

Security Management Consulting designed the Security System/Security Control Center for the Duke Energy Center in Charlotte, NC.

Raleigh, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/10/2011 -- While hundreds of projects are submitted, only the best have been recognized as Building of America award winners. The award honors the country's most innovative, unique and challenging projects — projects that are particularly noteworthy and/or that give back to their respective communities. The Duke Energy Center project in Charlotte, North Carolina was selected as one such project.

One daunting challenge of the Duke Energy Center project was the complexity of the security issues. Security Management Consulting (http://www.secmgmt.com) was contracted to formulate a strategy to solve those issues and to provide a state-of-the-art security design. This was accomplished with a full team approach which included working closely with the architectural firm of record (TVSA), the owner (Wells Fargo/Wachovia) and the building manager (Childress Klein Properties). The end result was a complex, multi-layered security approach and design that evolved from a series of meetings held over several months.

"The complexity of designing a security system to provide a safe and secure workplace for a multi-use LEED platinum-certified complex of this size was accomplished through teamwork," said Frank Ehrman, CPP, PSP, of SMC. "A state-of-the-art security control center designed by SMC now operates 24/7/365, providing for the safety and protection of the entire property and all its people."

The Building of America award-winning projects represent the best in new construction and renovation in a wide variety of categories, including commercial and retail, mixed-use, multifamily residential, government, transportation/infrastructure, health care, education, religion, historical restoration, and more. Submitted projects are reviewed by a selection committee that is looking for projects with unique design or construction elements; innovative solutions to challenges, including financing, environmental, zoning, etc.; efficient and cost-effective methods of planning and execution; and/or that have a significant economical impact on the region, among others.
