Lutheran Elementary Schools Across the Country Celebrate Christian Educational Ministries

Indianapolis, IN -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/07/2012 -- St. John will join with other Lutheran early childhood, elementary and high schools to celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week from March 3-11, 2012. There are currently 945 Lutheran elementary schools serving over 107,000 students in grades K-8. We thank God for this opportunity and praise Him for His blessing of our Christian educational ministry since 1852.

Among the reasons congregations have given for supporting a Lutheran School are to nurture faith, to teach children to grow in grace and knowledge, to teach the Word, to communicate and establish Christian values, to equip children for a life of Christian service, and to use the educational ministries to reach out to the others with the Gospel.

Over 90,000 Meals Packed and Prepared for Shipping Overseas and Distribution Locally

Indianapolis, IN -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/18/2010 -- A recent community packing event took place on Saturday, November 13 at St. John Lutheran Church and School on Indy's Southside in coordination with Kids Against Hunger-Greenwood. A total of five Lutheran Marion and Johnson County churches organized and provided funding for the event.

Local Thrivent Financial for Lutherans' Chapters also provided funding.

More than 300 community volunteers participated in a meal-packaging blitz aimed at creating meals for hungry children worldwide. St. John Lutheran School's (6630 Southeastern Ave.) gymnasium temporarily morphed into multiple assembly lines as volunteers packed nutritionally rich meals consisting of rice, soy, vitamins, and dehydrated vegetables with the Greenwood-based nonprofit Kids Against Hunger www.kah-greenwood.org. St. John school children packaged 16,000 meals on Friday, November 12th to get a good start for the Saturday event.

Kids Against Hunger Greenwood Executive Director, Larry Moore said, "This is the second year for the event. Last year we packed 70,000 meals and this year we saw an increase by 25% with 90,000 meals. It's wonderful to see such generosity despite the current difficult economic times. It's a great show of spirit. Thanks to everyone involved."

Kids Against Hunger seeks to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the United States and to feed starving children throughout the world. Volunteers of all ages, donning hairnets, scooped food, weighed and sealed packages, taped and moved boxes, and generally had a great time while helping children across the world.

Each day, some 14,400 children die from malnutrition, starvation and hunger-related diseases. During the meal-packaging blitz, volunteers packed over 90,000 meals for starving children throughout the world and became better informed about the problem of hunger and how to respond to the need.

Former Miss America in Concert at Indianapolis Southeast Side Church

Indianapolis, IN -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/12/2010 -- On Wednesday, November 17th at 6:30 pm Little Wings Daycare of St. John Lutheran Church in Indianapolis will host a concert with 2009 Miss America, Katie Stam. Visitors are welcome to attend the concert, which will be held in the St. John Lutheran Dwelling Place, located at 6630 Southeastern Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46203. The cost of the concert is $5.00 per person, cash only at the door. Visitors can treat themselves to an evening of music and inspiration as Ms. Stam discusses her journey to becoming Miss America.
