Story Writing Competition for Children, Prizes for Schools

Winchester, Hampshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/09/2011 -- Louis the Frog is the mascot of his own website http://www.SpottyGreenFrog.co.uk. He has launched a story writing competition for children.

Prizes for the schools are 4 prizes of £100 to spend on the Spotty Green Frog website plus runners up prizes of £25 (also to spend on the website). The children who win the prizes for their schools will receive individual prizes as well relating to gardening and the outdoors.

Launching his competition, Louis said,

"I'm Louis the Frog and I'm inviting boys and girls across the country to write a story about me. Shouldn't be too hard – I'm a rather interesting frog with lots of lovely friends! There are different types of stories depending on your age and, if you are too young for school, you can just draw a picture and send that to me instead. If yours is one of the best stories, you will win a prize for yourself and for your school."

There are also prizes for handwriting and illustrations.

Louis has been careful to launch the competition with plenty of time for children to enter before the closing date of 31 March 2012.

There are also special prizes. Each school or nursery which sends in 10 or more entries in a batch before 20 January 2012 will receive a special "Early Bird" gifts.

For the children who are at school, the topics for the story are:

- Reception – Year 1 – Louis the Frog has an Adventure
- Years 2 – 3 – Louis the Frog Plays a Joke
- Years 4 – 6 – Louis the Frog – a Mystery Story

Louis plans to put the stories up on his website. He would also like his assistant, Laura from Customer Service to read the stories to create a video for YouTube so that everyone can enjoy the stories.

For children at day nurseries, Louis is asking them to draw a picture of him to put up on the websites saying "What could be better? An art gallery full of frogs!"

The closing date for the competition is 31 March 2012 with special prizes for schools which enter at least 10 entries in a batch before 20 January 2012.

Children can enter individually or through their schools.

Steve Brine MP Recycles Food Waste with Worm Composter a worm composter from the website Spotty Green Frog. He has a wooden beehive composter in his garden. It will recycle food from a family of four.

Winchester, Hampshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/24/2011 -- Steve Brine MP takes an active interest in green issues including the recycling of waste. With a new baby in the family, he is especially conscious of the importance of reducing the amount of waste going from homes to landfill sites. He welcomed a suggestion from Caroline Blatchford, the MD of website Spotty Green Frog, that he could use a worm composter to recycle waste from his family home.

The Spotty Green Frog website – http://www.SpottyGreenFrog.co.uk - has provided a worm composter for use by Stephen Brine and his family. The wooden worm composter is in the shape of a beehive. It has three levels and has proved to be especially popular with gardeners because it acts as a feature in the garden as well as producing both nutrient rich compost (Black Gold) and a liquid fertiliser referred to by gardeners as "worm tea".

Worms will eat a variety of waste including hair, egg boxes, food waste, cotton fabric and the contents of vacuum cleaners.

Caroline has offered to help Steve Brine to keep a diary about his worm composting experience. She said, "Once the worms are established in the composter, they will be able to recycle waste equivalent to half of their own body weight each day. Waste from a family of four should easily be able to be composted by a single worm composter.
