Marty Casey of Lovehammers Graces the WikiMusicGuide Pages

Norwalk, CT -- (ReleaseWire) -- 09/07/2007 -- Famous, talented, charming, and determined are the adjectives to describe Marty Casey on the stage and now much more, with his interview with WikiMusicGuide.

Marty Casey is the co-founder of grunge-rock band, Lovehammers and a runner-up in the CBS hit reality TV show, Rockstar: INXS from where rose the popularity of the song "Trees".

According to Marty, to be in the reality show is the greatest experience of his life that he would never want to do again. "Reality shows are the closest thing to being abducted by aliens. Only it's filmed so all of the gory things they do to you in the strict confines of a reality show set are displayed for the viewing public across the globe. And, of course, they only like to air the best AND worst of you. In the end it makes you either appears superhuman (good guy) or super jerk (bad guy)."

Undoubtedly the Illinois-raised Marty is more into his band than getting a solo career even after Rockstar. "There is nothing better than touring around the country with your friends and performing the songs you worked so hard to get heard... The Lovehammers have just gotten started on a global level and it will take time to introduce the fans to the band. Many come to concerts because they saw Marty Casey on a TV show and when they leave the gig they are Lovehammer fans. We are excited to do the work and let people know about us."

For the band's latest album, Marty Casey and the Lovehammers, creating the right sound meant working with many producers. "We recorded with every producer we loved. We didn't do it in typical fashion in one studio with one producer. We modeled it after a Stones type of record and flew around the country cutting different tracks with the producer we thought had the right sound. Steve Albini for the straight up punk tune "Straight As An Arrow". Marti Frederickson for the morpine-syrup "Clouds", Johnny K for the ballad "Rain On the Brain", etc.. etc..."

What will become of Lovehammers and especially Marty Casey is a matter of waiting. "I am doing a Bowie meets Depeche Mode type project that I have finally brought to life. It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid and it's finally happening. I have obsessive amounts of energy so I would like to be doing a few projects at any given time. I'll sleep when I'm dead."

ROCKIT Releases Retro Boosters, Gets Featured in WikiMusicGuide

Retro Booster Album by the Rockit Band is WikiMusicGuide’s Featured Album of the Week.

Norwalk, CT -- (ReleaseWire) -- 08/28/2007 -- Continuity despite variation of sounds, depth in every line – these are what it takes to be the featured album in WikiMusicGuide, all being characterized in Retro Boosters, the debut album of London's ROCKIT band.

The album was released by Rockit Records on July 16, 2007 and is currently being distributed by The Orchard.

Retro Boosters contain purely original and classic-sounding songs, with elements of rock, pop, folk, blues, house, hip hop and more - thanks to the Bob Dylan and The Beatles influence to ROCKIT members Justin Silver, Martin Holloway and Ben Annersley.

Originally due for release early this year, 11 songs were uploaded to the UK Music Week website to test its appeal to those who download from the website and all eleven made it to number one on the website chart over a six-month period.

"Bag Lady," a straight ahead groovy Indie rock song is the first of the 20 songs in the album.

ROCKIT was formed when Justin quit his band Grasshopper in 2003 and sang with Martin who had also just quitted his band Holloway. After the duo's live performance at West Hampstead in London, Ben, former bass player for Rough Trade records and touring with Red Crayola suggested trying out a three-piece from where rose the perfectly complimenting talents of the trio. The group was finally completed when an old friend of Ben, Chris Berry, an American and one of London's best session guitarists joined the band.

The name of the band was Justin's idea, having first thought of settling for Ben's suggestion of "Chubby."

"Then every time I came up with something rubbish I'd think 'f**k that...f**k it'...which evolved into ROCKIT. It turned out to be the first name everyone in the band could agree on," Justin explained to WikiMusicGuide.

More interesting facts about the band and their songs included in the Retro Booster's album can be found in their MySpace "rockitpad" and WikiMusicGuide "Rockit" pages. Their songs can also be downloaded at http://www.rockitpad.com.

Dino Kourelis Speaks on Behalf of Lovehammers at WikiMusicGuide

An exclusive interview to Dino Kourelis, a member of Lovehammers band by WikiMusicGuide.

Norwalk, CT -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/17/2007 -- The band Lovehammers was voted as second most favorite band in MySpace, an evidence of fame among online music lovers – same bunch who will be delighted to know about WikiMusicGuide's interview with Dino Kourelis, the band's bassist.

"Bob and Marty started playing together in High School. Dino joined after buying a bass, and there have been a few other key members to the band throughout the years. Billy Sawilchik joined in the late 90s in college. The current lineup took form in 2003. Other notable members include Ben Kelly and John Murdoch. The name actually used to be Swinging Lovehammers. We had always wanted to change it, but couldn't think of anything else that we liked. Eventually, we dropped the Swinging and Lovehammers were formed," explained Dino as to the history of the band.

According to the bassist, since they have known each other most of their lives, and have lived together since High School, they can be considered brothers.

Lovehammers belong to the genre post-grunge, which Dino called "post-grunge with pop sensibilities."

When asked about Marty Casey's joining Rockstar, Dino answered, "Our biggest problem was always exposure. Anytime we had the chance to tour with someone or play in front of people we had success. We knew if given the chance, people would fall in love with the band and the music – and they did. Chicago is a great sample of what you can do because of its diversity – we felt that if we could reach all these different people and become the biggest rock band in Chicago, then we could succeed in the rest of the world."

The band from southwest Chicago suburb, Hickory Hills started when they were 14 in 1988 and were "always self managed and never had a label or agent to promote us," according to Dino. They won the "Best Rock Entertainer/Best Rock Album" during the 26th Annual Chicago Music Awards.

The group thanks INXS for Rockstar that has given their song "Trees" the exposure. "We knew it was a great song, and just needed to get it out there for people to hear. The great thing about Trees and a lot of our songs is that all types of people dig them – it is pretty wild to see 4 generations of a family coming to shows and singing all the words to our songs," Dino added.

The band composed by Marty Casey on vocals, Billy Sawilchik on guitars, Bobby Kourelis on drums and Dino himself on bass has recorded four albums: Marty Casey & Lovehammers (2006), Murder on My Mind (2003), How We Live (2001) and L'Strange (2000).

Funky to the Very End: A WikiMusicGuide Tribute to James Brown

Norwalk, CT -- (ReleaseWire) -- 01/19/2007 -- His latest backup band, the Soul Generals, thrashed on, playing as if they were in one of his jam-packed concerts. The crowd cheered and danced to his hits like "Soul Power" and "I Feel Good," like he himself were singing for them right then and there. If it were someone else's funeral, it wouldn't be this funky. For his fans did not just come to mourn his death, they also came to celebrate his life and his music. He is James Brown, "The Godfather of Soul." He was 73.

James Joe Brown was born during the Great Depression, on May 3, 1933 in Barnwell. S.C. When he was four years old, he was abandoned by his mother and moved with his father to live with his aunt in Augusta, Georgia.

He was the hardest working kid on the streets long before he was the "Hardest-Working Man in Show Business." During childhood, he worked in many odd jobs, singing on street corners, picking cotton and shining shoes "in order to survive as a little black boy growing up in the South," he said. "I was nine years old before I got a pair of underwear from a real store; all my clothes were made of sacks and things like that. But I knew I had to make it. I had the determination to go on, and my determination was to be somebody."

Forced to drop out of school, Mr. Brown, as he likes to be called, sang and danced for soldiers at nearby Fort Gordon. He also helped his father washing cars. And at 16 years old, long before he became the Godfather of Soul, he almost became a godfather of the other sort: he was involved in car theft and other petty crimes, earning him a three-year stint at reform school. There he met Bobby Byrd, leader of a gospel group and later became his life-long friend.

After juvenile camp and starting life anew, Mr. Brown tried semi-pro boxing and baseball. Unfortunately, a leg injury took him out of the ring and the fields and led him to our radios.

In 1956, he joined Bobby Byrd's gospel singing group that was then touring Georgia. However, after seeing Hank Ballard and Fats Domino perform, James and Bobby were enticed to secular music. They formed a group called the "Flames" and recorded "Please, Please, Please," which was to become later as Mr. Brown's signature song. Being a business man and a bandleader he gathered into the Flames more talent of singers, dancers and musicians to an ensemble that later became known as "James Brown and the Famous Flames" with which he toured.

Although he would always have a full crowd anywhere he performed, he was but a minor R&B artist with a limited audience. He then thought of releasing a live recording of one of his concerts. Alas, it was turned down by his then label King Records, certain that the album would not sell.

But his self-reliance, trained since early childhood, would not let his dream remain unachieved. Mr. Brown put up his own money to record the October 1962 Apollo Theatre Concert. Three months later, with the album's highly successful release, James Brown was catapulted to stardom. Thus Soul's greatest leader came.

He toured relentlessly over the ensuing years, selling out concerts and adding up to almost a thousand songs in his repertoire, including "I Got You (I Feel Good)" (1965), "Cold Sweat" (1967), "Sex Machine (1970), "Hot Pants" (1971) and "The Payback" (1973). "Say It Loud: I'm Black and I'm Proud" (1969) remains to be an African-American civil rights anthem.

Recognition also started to pile up. He won the Best R&B Recording Grammy Award for "Pappa's Got a Brand New Bag" in 1965. In 1987, "Living in America," which can be heard in "Rocky IV" movie, won another Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. And in 1992, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award. Other major recognitions he garnered includes being a charter "Rock and Roll Hall of Famer" and being honoured by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Aside from collecting awards, he also came to influence music in other, mostly younger and fledgling, artists. Unknowingly, with every horn, cranky rock and roll guitar, powerful bass, funky grunts, bedevilling dance moves and vibrant and explosive showmanship, he inspired the likes of Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger, Prince, and yes, Elvis Presley.

Even contemporary artists, who could not have been old enough to be among his audiences in the 60's, 70's and the 80's were inspired and continue to be inspired by his style, like Dr. Dre, P. Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Ne-Yo, Justin Timberlake, Rage Against the Machine… the list goes on.

All of them and so much more – fans and other artists all over the world mourn the passing, but celebrate the life, of the "Godfather of Soul," "Forefather of Rap," "God of Rhythm and Blues," "Mr. Excitement," "Hardest-Working Man in Show Business," "Funkiest Mutha in the Universe."

So befitting a life center-stage and dramatic, he died on Christmas Day. The James Brown that only God can so perfectly create, He has taken away on His day. And in the words of yet another of Mr. Brown's disciples, Public Enemy's Chuck D, "may his funky soul R.I.P."

We at WikiMusicGuide pay our respects to the late James Brown. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Brown's family, friends and loved ones. He will be missed. But his music lives on.

Like all other music artists – legends, pioneers, breakthroughs – James Brown will have his rightful place in cyberspace. At WikiMusicGuide, all that is music is celebrated by the music fans for the music fans.

The Indie Bible Spotlighted in WikiMusicGuide

Norwalk, CT -- (ReleaseWire) -- 01/15/2007 -- WikiMusicGuide proved once again that it is not just for musicians but for anything related to music as well, by featuring the site of the Indie Bible as Site of the Week at http://www.wikimusicguide.com/.

The Indie Bible is a directory that provides singers and song writers with a long list of music review channels and sites, independent artist music stations and album/CD merchants to solve their problem of reaching out to their potential audience. The Indie Bible's 8th Edition has 343 pages of valuable contacts and music-related articles.

David Wimble was the man behind the Indie Bible. He took the idea of creating a substantial source for independent artists when in 1999, he met the same challenge all independent artists undergo - he needed to get exposure for his soon-to-be released album. He found the answer at the internet where radio stations would play his songs, publications would review his album and online music merchants would sell his music.

After recording his band's first album, the band unfortunately broke up. Although heavily in debt, such a failure made him turn his discovery of online help for independent artists into a great work of research, compilation and organization. There wasn't some sort of directory that lists the addresses of all the helpful services available to independent artists at that time. He began searching for resources from Americana to Zydeco in order to create a widespread appeal for the book. His ordered, tidy resource or directory enabled musicians and songwriters to avoid spending the incredible number of hours it took to find the resources in the first place.

The "Indie Contact Bible" was officially released in October 1999 and included all genres of music. It was a very low budget book that was photocopied and had a plain white cover. Even though the book was simple it served its purpose and therefore, its value was recognized by those who bought and loved it.
