Kohl's department store is expected to open 30 new stores this fall across the country. A company spokeswoman said that the new stores nationwide will generate about 4,000 jobs.

Last weekend Kohl's held a job fair optimistic to find about 130 qualified people to fill several different positions such as cashiers, sales people, early morning freight workers, associates for register operators, department associates, and customer service.

The new stores will open in places like Charleston (SC), Huntsville (AL), Hixson (TN), Dalton (GA), Easley (SC), Greenville (SC) and many more. These stores are scheduled to open up next month. Despite this, the unemployment scenario will not experience drastic change. Nearly 14 million natives alleged unemployment last month, according to The US Department of Labor.
RetailCrossing, a job aggregator website and search engine focuses only on retail industry related jobs.
Amazon Promises 5,000 Jobs in Texas in Exchange for Waiver on Sales Tax, Retailcrossing Finds 39,000 Jobs

Amazon.com is in negotiations with the Texas government for a deal which could see the state gain 5,000 jobs and $300 million in investments in the next three years.

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/27/2011 -- Amazon.com is in negotiations with the Texas government for a deal which could see the state gain 5,000 jobs and $300 million in investments in the next three years.

But in exchange, Amazon is demanding an exemption from collecting tax on its online sales to Texas residents for four and half years. The exemption is similar to what it had demanded in South Carolina where it was opposed by local retailers. After months of negotiations, votes and re-votes, Amazon finally got exemption for four-and-half years on collecting sales tax from South Carolina residents.

The deal for Amazon in Texas has been attached in Senate Bill 1. SB 1 is essential to balancing the state's budget for 2012-13 and the attached proposal at the last minute, although does not specify Amazon by name, is being seen by traditional retailers as a Hail Mary pass to the company.

There are around 1,500 traditional brick-and-mortar retailers in Texas, which employ almost 2 million people. The proposal has drawn strong criticism from the Texas Retailers Association. Amazon is also facing opposition from the Alliance for Main Street Fairness who said the government was giving preferential treatment to an out-of-state company.

Dick Lavine from the Center of Public Policy Priorities has even questioned if the state really needs the kind of jobs that Amazon will be creating. But with unemployment in Texas running at 8 percent, most Texans may not be so reluctant about working in retail jobs. RetailCrossing, a job aggregator website focusing only on the retail industry related jobs has been able to compile over 39,000 jobs so far this week.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Roger Croft
Editorial Coordinator
RetailCrossing
Telephone: 626-243-1814
Email: Click to Email Roger Croft
Web: http://www.Retailcrossing.com/

South Carolina Senate Gives Approval to Amazon Compromise, Retailcrossing Finds 47,000 Jobs.

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) --05/31/2011 -- The South Carolina Senate has finally given Amazon a deal which will ensure that the online retail giant opens a distribution center in the state.

The move will see the company bringing 2,000 jobs to Lexington County. The unanimous voice vote sends the deal back to the House. Last week, the House voted 97-20 to give Amazon a 5 year exemption on having to collect sales tax from the state's residents. In exchange, the company has agreed to make the jobs full-time jobs with health benefits and make an investment of at least $125 million.

Opponents of the Amazon deal kept coming up with new amendments till the last minute to hold up the vote, but the senators ignored most of the 230 proposed changes and went ahead with the vote. Governor Nikki Haley has said that she will support the Senate compromise and allow the deal to happen.

The compromise includes Amazon sending a confirmation email for every purchase to the customer stating that he may owe the state sales tax. The email will also provide a link to the state's Department of Revenue. Amazon will also have to send a yearly total of the customer's purchases to its South Carolina customers, stating that they may be liable to pay the sales tax on their income tax returns.

Amazon to Hire 1,200 Workers in Tennessee, Retailcrossing Finds 30,000 Retail Jobs Nationwide.

Amazon plans to build centers in the state has attracted criticism from the local retail business owners.
The centers, located in Bradley and Hamilton County, will open this fall. Amazon may also open three more such centers in Tennessee. These new centers would add another 2,700 full-time jobs and around 4,000 seasonal jobs.

Amazon is looking to hire full-time hourly positions in its Bradley and Hamilton centers. The positions will be in picking, packing, shipping, and receiving. There will also be a few management positions for safety, operations, technical support, and in human resources.

Amazon plans to build centers in the state has attracted criticism from the local retail business owners. A deal made by former Governor Phil Bredesen and supported by current Governor Bill Haslam gives the company exemption on charging sales tax to its state customers even after it builds the distribution centers.

Just as in South Carolina, the local businesses in Tennessee are opposed to the fact that Amazon will not have to charge its state customers a sales tax. Currently, since Amazon does not have a physical presence in the state, it does not charge its Tennessee customers a sales tax. Lawmakers in the state are now debating whether to require Amazon to collect sales tax on its online sales once the centers start their operations.

Wal-mart Announce Plans on Hiring 4,000 Workers in Sc, Retailcrossing Finds 27,000 Jobs Nationwide

The Wal-Mart announcement comes just one week after Amazon decided to drop plans to build a massive distribution center in South Carolina. The Amazon center would have created around 1,200 jobs.

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/10/2011 -- Wal-Mart officials announced alongside South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley that the company would be bringing 4,000 jobs to South Carolina. The announcement was made at a press conference in West Columbia.

The move is part of the retail giant's plan to expand existing stores as well as add new ones. The company is going to invest $400 million for its expansion in the state. Wal-Mart already employs around 28,000 people in its existing retail and distribution centers in South Carolina.

Wal-Mart CEO Bill Simon has said that the dozens of new stores will be opened across the state. Simon also said that the jobs that are going to be created will give out competitive wages and benefits. The company says that the average Wal-Mart worker in South Carolina earns $12.80 per hour.

The Wal-Mart announcement comes just one week after Amazon decided to drop plans to build a massive distribution center in South Carolina. The Amazon center would have created around 1,200 jobs. But the company was denied the sales tax exemption that it sought by the S.C. House of Representatives. Amazon completely pulled out of the project after the vote.
Gov. Haley has said that Wal-Mart has not been offered any special tax break and the deal had been in the making for several months.

Craig Menear, who is executive vice president of merchandising, said that for Home Depot, "Spring is our Christmas". This is because for Home Depot, the biggest selling season is from March to mid-June. The retail giant has around 317,000 employees, including about 298,000 temporary of hourly workers as of January 2010. Around 61 percent of the employees were full-time workers.

The hiring is expected to start soon since Home Depot will start its own "Spring Black Friday" in March. The company will also create several as yet unspecified permanent positions.

Rival Lowe's, the second largest home improvement chain, is also planning to hire 50,000 temporary workers. Retail has traditionally been one of the few sectors, along with construction, which has absorbed large segments of the workforce when other sectors face a downturn.

While construction has still not recovered, retail has been on a hiring spree the last three months. Most of it was supposed to be seasonal for the holiday season but most big-box retailers keep some of the temps as full-time workers.
CEO A. Harrison Barnes of RaleighCrossing says that Raleigh still has jobs in the hi-tech area. "The Research Triangle is still hiring in significant numbers. And the jobs there are high-skilled and high paying jobs with benefits. So this is not just some lowly-paid temp work. There are opportunities in information technology and engineering."
Amazon, the online retail giant is building its 10th distribution center in South Carolina. The company has named the project "Project ASAP" and plans on hiring around 1,249 employees once full scale operations begin. Another 2,500 workers will be hired as seasonal employees.

Amazon is planning to spend $40 million on the 1 million-square-foot center; a development the state governor Mark Sanford calls a "big plug". He is hoping that the presence of such a big name company will encourage other national chains in different industries to establish presence there.

The construction of the center will be completed by end of 2013. The deciding factors in Lexington county's favor where the proximity to the Columbia Metropolitan Airport and seaports. But the county and state had to give Amazon property tax breaks and a repeal of the Sunday sales restrictions.
