P1 Groupe Drivers Make Strong Showing at Barber

Altamonte Springs, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/25/2011 -- Memo Gidley, in the #42 Team Sahlens Mazda RX-8 with co-driver Wayne Nonnamaker, started the weekend in Birmingham's picturesque Barber Motorsports Park in strong fashion. Gidley would run third in the final practice session of this past weekends' Porsche 250 before his co-driver would qualify the car in a very strong fourth starting position for the race. Nonnamaker would hold onto his Top-5 position for much of his stint before turning the wheel over to driving talents of Gidley. The tandem would encounter some mid race issues that forced them to finish outside of the Top-10 in the final results, in 11th position, for the first time in the 2011 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series season. They are currently in a three-way tie for seventh place in the overall Grand Touring Class Team Championship standings.

The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series Grand Sport Class would boast a number of drivers under the P1 Groupe umbrella of management, and would be a strong outing for all. Jeff Bucknum would again be in his #6 Mitchum Motorsports Chevy Camaro GS.R, although he qualified at the front end of the pack in fourth position, would have to fight his way from the rear of the pack at the start due to a post qualifying infraction. Bucknum would pass most of the field before turning the car over to his teammate Robert Stout. In a strategy decision Bucknum would get back in their car to finish out the race, but again would have ground to make up to get the results the team desperately needed to stay in the championship hunt. Bucknum mentions; "During the race weekend I was able to qualify the car in 4th place but had to start 28th in last place. I worked my way up to 3rd before we pitted and my teammate Robert got in the car. Unfortunately our car had radio communication problems, so we did not pit at the correct time which cause us to fall back to last place again before Robert got in the car.

Bucknum would bring his #6 machine home in 10th position in a very long hard fought day; it would be his second Top-10 of the season. "We had a very up and down race weekend with a variety of crazy things happen before and during the race. I do want to thank everyone at Mitchum Motorsports for all the hard work that has gone into our racing this year. With everyone's hard work and avoiding some big crashes we did manage to work our way back up through the field twice during the race and finish 10th. I feel very confident we have a race winning combination with Camaro, Mitchum, my teammate Robert Stout and me" states Bucknum.

Mike Sweeney and his AM Performance team would unveil and debut their new 2011 Nissan 370Z this weekend. The white, red and black #04 machine would be the talk of the paddock as it rolled onto the starting grid for the Barber 200 race. Sweeney would start the race in a solid 16th starting position, which had everyone on the team buzzing with enthusiasm since the team had zero testing time before the official launch of the program. It's always harder to do your development testing amongst your competition, but AM Performance was up to the task. "I can't believe a brand new car was this good! It's a testament to all the long nights and hard work the crew put in at the shop and it's an honor to drive a car that has been put together by such talented hands" states an excited Mike Sweeney.

Sweeney would start the race strong, picking up a few spots on the field in the first eight laps of the race before coming on the radio to report issues with the power of the car. On lap nine the car would stop on course and would have to be towed back to the paddock. The team would retire the car from the race to diagnose the problems, but in all was deemed a very successful debut.

Sweeney adds; "This was a tough weekend but a good weekend. Our NISMO 370Z was fast in race trim, really took care of its tires, and was just plain good to drive, which really shows that Nissan has given us a great platform to start with. Unfortunately, we had some issues that forced us out of the race early, which is just part of developing a new car. It was also great to get out and represent the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in front of the great crowd at Barber Motorsports Park; I can't wait to raise more funding for them at VIR!"

Rounding out the GS Class for P1 was Bret Spaude in the #35 Subaru Road Racing Team, who would lead seven laps in the race after starting in sixth position for his first laps led on the season before the car ultimately retired and Matt Bell in the #9 Stevenson Motorsports Chevy Camaro GS.R. Bell would again show his ability to qualify the car well by putting his machine on the front row, just one tenth of a second off pole position. Bell would run strong on the day, turning his car over to his co-driver in the Top-5. After restarting back in the field by pitting out of sequence with the others in the lead pack, his co-driver John Edwards would fight his way through the field for a strong Top-5 finish for the pairing. They currently are 12th in the Team Championship standings after the teams' first Top-5 of the season, but appear poised to make a strong run over the long haul of the season.

The Street Tuner Class would feature drivers Tim Bell in the #14 Doran Racing BMW 128i and Owen Trinkler in the #198 RSR Motorsports Mini Cooper S. Bell, who was balked on his fast lap in qualifying only to muster a 19th starting position, would be very strong in his opening stanza behind the wheel to turn over the car to his co-driver BJ Zacharias well within the Top-10. Zacharias would go on to battle for the lead at the end, and the tandem finished with the first ever podium finish in second place for Bell, the new BMW 128i and Doran Racing in this series. It was a great start for the season for the Doran Racing #14 team which now has its drivers in sixth in the Drivers Championship and fourth in the Team Championship. Bell is currently second in the Rookie of the Year standings.

For Trinkler, his co-driver Sarah Cattaneo would qualify the car in eighth position, but would have to start from the rear of the 32-car field for failing post qualifying inspection. Cattaneo would run very strong through the field to turn the car over to Trinkler in position to make a push to the front. Trinkler would lead 10 laps on the day, but a late stop for fuel under yellow would put him back in the pack for the restart. He would make a strong push to the end to come across the stripe in 11th position.

The pair is currently fourth in the ST class Driver Championship and third in the Team Championship, ready to make a push for the lead in both categories.

Next up for the GRAND-AM drivers is the very technical Virginia International Raceway on May 14th.

Bret Spaude Barber 200 Race Recap

Altamonte Springs, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/25/2011 -- One of the Young Guns in the 2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series, Bret Spaude is quickly opening eyes with his on track performance, and this past weekend for the Barber 200, was on a mission to put his Subaru Road Racing Team in contention to win. Spaude would qualify his Subaru WRX STI in eighth position for Saturday's race, but would start from sixth after a few cars were forced to the rear of the field for qualifying infractions.

Bret was quickly up to speed at the drop of the green flag, picking his overtaking spots carefully, making sure to take care of his equipment as the leaders would battle viciously ahead of him. The all-wheel drive car allows Spaude to balance the wear on his tires evenly across all four tires, and he figured that would come into play as the race wore on. In time Bret was able to crack the Top-5, and under yellow flag conditions, the team took the gamble by not pitting. This strategy put the #35 Subaru machine in the lead for the restart. States Spaude; "I will admit that when Joe called for us to stay out on the first caution I was very concerned about the strategy. On the other hand it allowed us to be able to take the lead and showcase our awesome car. The flag dropped on the restart and off she went."

At the drop of the flag the Subaru was overtaken going into turn 1, but in a great showing of patience and skill Spaude was able to retake the lead a few turns later. He would hold that lead until the next caution, some seven laps later, turning the car over to his co-driver Andrew Aquilante from the overall lead. "Leading in my first GRAND-AM event at Barber Motorsport Park was very cool. I have been going to Barber for many years as a karter and now as a GRAND-AM driver the past few trips, and I love that track." Spaude continues; "We had a great run just like last years' race there. Our Subaru WRX STI was by far the class of the Field. When I was able to pass for 4th place, I knew that our car was going to be the one to beat! We pulled out to a two second lead in a few laps before the next caution came out. Our Subaru was the only car not in a four wheel slide/pitch/drift the entire time on the track."

When Aquilante went out, still under the caution period, the car locked up going into turn five, unable to restart, had to be towed into the paddock, ending a strong showing for the team on the day. "Sadly, a small fuse blew out causing an ECU failure that retired us early. Playing the rest of the race out according to our computing and math, our pit strategy was dead on for a race win" states Spaude. The Barber 200 will be televised this Saturday, April 16th on SPEED at 2pm EST.

Next up for Spaude is the ''The Devil in the Dark 12 Hour Endurance Race'' at New Jersey Motorsport Park, April 30th. He will be part of a four-driver lineup also featuring his usual co-driver in Andrew Aquilante. They will be sharing the Pontiac Firebird known locally as "The Buzzin Half Dozen", and is Spaudes' first 12 hour race in three years; "I am always excited to do longer races. I normally don't get to do much night driving which is always fun. We will see how the driver rotation goes, hopefully we all we will get a good amount of seat time. New Jersey is a great place to hold this event for us. It's a great way to help get ready for the GRAND-AM event there later in the year" mentions Spaude of the event.

P1 Groupe Signs Up-And-Coming Driver Tristan Nunez

Altamonte Springs, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/20/2011 -- If you don?t know the name yet, you soon will! Tristan Nunez, of Boca Raton, Florida, is just 15 years old and is sky rocketing into a professional racing career that started with karting a brief three years ago. Catching the eye of many seasoned veterans and top professionals from around the world, Nunez quickly started getting recognized around the karting community as one of the top drivers to enter the ranks in a very long time.

Graduating from Karting and into the Skip Barber Racing Series in 2009, Nunez captured "Rookie of the Year? honors, and in 2010 became a scholarship winner in the series for the upcoming 2011 season. But that wasn?t enough. Performance Tech, a South Florida based race team that competes in the IMSA Lites L-1 class, as well as running an LMPC Prototype in the American Le Mans Series, quickly took notice of the local driver, and arranged a test for him in the teams? IMSA Lites car for the American Le Mans Series Winter Test taking place at Sebring International Raceway.

Nunez did not disappoint in his first official professional series test, finishing third overall among a cast of seasoned veterans and race winners. Recognizing talent when he sees it, O?Neil quickly signed the young driver to the IMSA Lites season opening races on the same weekend as the famed 12 Hours of Sebring for the ALMS. States O?Neil; "For his first professional race Tristan showed a lot of consistency and maturity. You would never guess this is a 15 year old behind the wheel. He?s got a great career ahead of him, and I?m very happy he?s with Performance Tech, our team structure is such that we can help him achieve his goals of racing the prototypes in the American Le Mans Series before long."

The youngest driver in IMSA Lites history, Nunez finished on the podium his very first race in a very strong second place. He will also be taking on the ranks in the Skip Barber Racing Series this season, as well as having made the decision to stay in the IMSA Lites program after such a strong start.

Recognizing what?s ahead of them in the way of a professional career, Tristan and the Nunez family chose to seek a management team that can maximize the opportunities, and limit the pitfalls that can often stumble a budding career. For this, they signed with professional motorsports management company P1 Groupe. "I am very excited to team up with P1 Groupe as I enter into this 2011 racing season. As an up and coming new driver, I feel that P1 Groupe has what it takes to help me get to the next level in my motorsports career" states Nunez. The Orlando, Florida based P1 Groupe is a full-service management company with past experience in all disciplines of motorsport.

Trinkler Roars Into Birmingham for Barber 200

Trinkler and RSR Motorsports Are Third In Team Championship Points This Season

Altamonte Springs, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/14/2011 -- Owen Trinkler heads into familiar territory this weekend as he and his #198 RSR Motorsports squad embarks on the third round of the 2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series at Barber Motorsports Park for the Barber 200. Trinkler shares his #198 Mini Cooper S with the up-and-coming Sarah Cattaneo, and the tandem is currently enjoying a solid start to the season as they sit in third place in the Team Championship standings, a mere one point out of second place, following their impressive third place podium finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 5th.

The RSR Motorsports team feels like it has unfinished business at this circuit despite a good history at Barber Motorsports Park, and all the hard work in the offseason to continue pushing the development of their fleet of Mini Cooper S's has Trinkler excited to be going back to him home track. The Barber 200 is held at the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama on April 7-9.

"Sarah and I both very much enjoy Barber, I do a lot of my coaching there, and Sarah has always qualified and run strong there," said Owen Trinkler. "We finished 4th there in '09, and finished at the top of the leaderboard in two of the sessions last year, so I know we will be strong after all the work we've put towards the cars this season. Randy and the RSR team has done a great job for Sarah and I, so we're looking to repay all their efforts this weekend with a great result." The team would also like to welcome Pilot and Flying J on board to support their efforts.

This season RSR Motorsport is supported by Pilot, Flying J, Cruise America, Thor Motorcoach, and Mini USA as they campaign three Mini Cooper S race cars out of their Orlando, Florida race shop to take on a very strong challenge in the Street Tuner Class of the Continental Tire Challenge in 2011. The team and sponsors are looking forward to a strong 2011 racing season.

Wimmer Holds on for Solid Finish at Bristol

Altamonte Springs, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/31/2011 -- Scott Wimmer went into the Scotts EZ Seed 300 at Bristol this past weekend with a great deal of confidence, and for good reason. Not only is Bristol one of Wimmers favorite tracks, but his results speak for themselves. Wimmer would again show what he can do on the famed circuit qualifying in the Top-20 in a field littered with Sprint Cup drivers, and just over one tenth of a second off a Top-10 start.

As the green flag dropped, Wimmer, in his customary fashion, carefully picked his spots to overtake and preserve his #40 PREVAL/Anderson's Maple Syrup Key Motorsports Chevrolet Impala. He soon found himself battling within the Top-15. Restart after restart the Wausau, Wisconsin native would overcome spots lost in the pits to consistently run top times and put him in position for a late run. Unfortunately late in the race Danica Patrick would hit the wall, and as she slid back down the track she came into Wimmers driving line and in what some could consider being his best move of the race spun himself to keep from hitting Patricks' mangled #7 JR Motorsports machine.

Wimmer would suffer only minor damage to the rear of the car as he was hit by another car, but most importantly lost several positions fixing the damage to take him outside the Top-20 with little time to make up spots for a solid points finish. As it was, Wimmer would finish 22nd, and with eight Cup drivers finishing ahead of him, still managed a strong points race and made up three spots in the overall Drivers Championship, now in 20th position. On the season Wimmer, although having two DNF's in four races, is doing a great job with what he has to work with as evidenced by his driver rating and the rating of his pass differential on the track. Thus far, out of the 45 drivers that have collected points on the season, only Reed Sorenson has a better pass differential on the season. Add that with the 19 drivers that are not eligible to collect points, making the total number of drivers to start a race this season at 64, only four total have a better differential than Wimmer!

Two new Marketing Partners to the Key Motorsports team were introduced in the race. They are professional grade spray gun manufacturer PREVAL, based out of Chicago, IL and Wisconsin's Anderson's Maple Syrup. Key Motorsports owner Curtis Key was happy to have both companies on board this past weekend and looks forward to working with them again during the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series season.

"We have good cars this year, Key Motorsports has done a good job putting some good cars under me," said Scott Wimmer. "The team is working now on just getting a little more power out of the engines and getting our pit stops a little better. Even where we are, if it wasn't for the two DNF's we'd easily be in the Top-15 in points." Wimmer continues; "I know we're a Top-15 team, and the season is still young, we're just looking to put it all together," continued Wimmer. "Having two new sponsors on board this weekend, we really wanted to put on a good show for them. Getting sponsors like them on board is what is going to get our team over that hump to start competing for Top-10's on a consistent basis."

P1 Groupe and Subaru Road Racing Team Driver Bret Spaude Launches New Fan Site

Spaude is in his second full season with the Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT), which earlier this season debuted their new Subaru WRX-STi featuring the Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive.

Altamonte Springs, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/21/2011 -- Bret Spaude is a young driver on the rise in the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series. Spaude is in his second full season with the Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT), which earlier this season debuted their new Subaru WRX-STi featuring the Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive that has had a strong beginning to the season and only looks to improve on many aspects of their competitive level going forward in the 2011 racing season.

"The SRRT has made some pretty big strides from just one season ago," said Brett Spaude. "This time last year we struggled with engine reliability through the first two rounds. The SRRT team has developed a much stronger unit since that time, and the team is applying what they've learned from issues that arise from developing a new car and drive train."

"Daytona was a big success for the team as we've drastically improved on our times from last season, and we were well on our way to a Top-10 finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway last weekend when we encountered transmission issues midway through the race that ended our day," continued Spaude. "I think Barber will be another step forward for the team as we continue to improve every time out, as well the Barber Motorsports circuit does suit the car and our Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive to give us a nice result to build on for a strong summer run to get top results."

Bret is aware that there are certain steps that are equally important to continue moving his career on the upward swing he's been on for the last year. Of those changes, he's dedicated a lot of time in building his brand, developing a stronger relationship and visibility with his fans, and becoming the face of his team and his sponsors alike. The natural next step was setting up his fan web site so the fans and sponsors can keep up with everything Bret Spaude!

"Having my own site up is something that I've been wanting to get accomplished for some time now," said Spaude. "I'm glad I had a great group to help with the set up and design of the site, I'd also like to thank Andrea Mead Cross and her team for the professional photography. My management team at P1 Groupe have stressed how important that relationship with my fans can be as my career continues to develop, and has already set me up with my Facebook and Twitter fan pages. I'm really looking forward to a strong 2011 season both on and off the race track."

Spaude Ready to Take Homestead in Kia 200 in the 2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge

Will Be Racing For Subaru Road Racing Team

Altamonte Springs, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/14/2011 -- P1 Groupe driver, Bret Spaude of Bushnell, Florida is looking to build on a strong run at the Daytona International Speedway for the opening round of the 2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series, where the Subaru Road Racing Team debuted their new 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. The track doesn't suit the all-wheel drive car as some of the others on the 2011 calendar, nonetheless the team went to work and came away with a 13th place finish in one of the more competitive classes in all of GRAND-AM racing.

"We had a good run at Daytona, and we learned a lot about the new car," said Spaude.

The driving tandem of Spaude and Andrew Aquilante of Chester Springs, PA were able to increase their lap times over the weekend every time they stepped into the car, with their fastest time of the weekend coming in the race itself. Going into this weekends' Kia 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway the team is preparing to build on what they learned at Daytona. The #35 squad enters a track that better suits the attributes of Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.

"My job is to make sure I turn over a car that is in contention and one that Andrew can go out and bring home the finish," said Spaude. "The team gave us a great car for the race, and Andrew and I were both able to pick our spots and make up some important positions to be there at the end."

"I think we could have a very strong run at Homestead, Andrew and I both have a lot of laps under our belts there and I think the team and Subaru are giving us a car to compete for a podium run," continued Spaude. "We really want to make a strong push for the Championship this season and the whole team knows we need to be competitive each and every race with the level of competition we're facing out there if we're going to have a shot at it."

The race weekend kicks off with practice on Friday, March 4th at 11:50am, and the 2.5-hour race at 4:15pm on Saturday March 5th. The race will air on SPEED TV on March 19th at 2pm EST.

Wimmer Shows Strong in Daytona

Looking Forward To Strong Season With Key Motorsports

Altamonte Springs, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/10/2011 -- NASCAR star, Scott Wimmer, and the entire racing team of Key Motorsports were excited to be back in Daytona to race in NASCAR's Drive4COPD 300 in the new #40 Chevy Impala this past weekend. They would face an uphill battle to keep up with the changes to the restrictor plates as NASCAR tried to eliminate the 2-car drafting which proved to be the quickest way around the circuit. A number of these changes were to take place at a moments' notice, and kept the team hard at work. The team handled their task and never missed an on-track session.

Wimmer was still confident, and improved by more than two tenths from the first practice to the second. Focusing more on having a comfortable car for the race than a quick car in qualifying, Wimmer would start the Drive4COPD 300 in 42nd position. In classic fashion, Wimmer would pick his spots wisely to make up ground on the leaders. Before long Wimmer would find himself in 25th position after the first cycle of pitstops, when he would radio in that the hood was bowing in the center and cutting off air to the intake.

The team brought the #40 Key Motorsports Chevy Impala in twice during the next caution period, and Wimmer was able to still gain a lap back and rejoin the fray with his goals still within reach.

"I really wanted to make sure I brought Curtis' car back in one piece, and in the Top-15," said Scott Wimmer. "With the new points system in place I was confident we could accomplish a good finish here and head into Phoenix in the Top-10 in points."

With the hood situation still creating aero issues as well as robbing the car of its top end power, Wimmer would report in that the engine was skipping intermittently before it started smoking. Wimmer would radio into the crew that he knew the engine was going and brought it back to the garage for the remainder of the race.

Wimmer and the Key Motorsports team will load up for their west coast swing in Phoenix and Las Vegas, two tracks Wimmer has always done well at. In his previous nine starts at Phoenix, Wimmer has 1 win, 4 Top-10's, led multiple laps with an average finish inside the Top-15 for his Nationwide career. Wimmer, currently 24th in driver points, remains confident about the next few rounds; "Curtis and the team has put together some good cars for these next few races, I'm sure we can get out of there with some strong results and contend at the front of the grid." Key Motorsports is still searching for a primary sponsor for the season, but is dedicated to putting on their best effort until they can get the right company signed on.

Bennett Racing Announces Driving Lineup For The 2011 Rolex 24 hours of Daytona

Drivers Include Mike Skeen, Glynn Geddie, Jean-Francois Dumoulin, Michael Davidson, and Jonathan Allen

Altamonte Springs, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/27/2011 -- Bennett Racing is proud to formally announce the driving lineup for the 2011 Rolex 24 hours of Daytona in their #56 yellow and black liveried Ferrari F430 GT class effort. The drivers include Mike Skeen, Glynn Geddie, Jean-Francois Dumoulin, Michael Davidson, and Jonathan Allen. This will mark a departure from the driver seat for Team Principal Skip Bennett who raced in the 2010 season for the first time at the Virginia International Raceway. The 2011 Rolex 24 hours of Daytona is being held on January 29-30, 2011 at the Daytona International Speedway. It is the official start of the 2011 GRAND-AM season.

"We did a lot to the F430 to make it GRAND-AM compliant, and in the end Bennett Racing kind of took a life of its own." exclaims Bennett. "Going into 2011, I really wanted to take a look at raising the level of the performance of the car and team as a whole, as well as my own driving. As things progressed I was so busy out of the car that I didn't see how I'd have time to both drive and ensure everything gets done to the level it needs to be, so I made the tough decision to step out of the car."

Bennett has spent time in Ferrari Challenge competition and built the program around himself and driver coach, Mike Skeen. This season Bennett decided to step back from the driver's seat and selected an impressive five driver lineup that he believes will give the team the results he desires not merely for the 2011 Rolex 24 hours of Daytona but for the entire 2011 GRAND-AM Rolex season with the lineup initially built around Skeen.

Mike Skeen began racing karts at the age of 10 and went on to win several championships in NASA competition. In the last two seasons, he has been a standout in Trans-Am, Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, and World Challenge GT competition. Jonathan Allen began racing in 1998, and has had many wins with EMRA, BMWCCA, PBOC, NASA and SCCA. Mike Davidson started racing competitively in the NASA SPEC E30 series in 2006. He has multiple series wins and podiums, and has finished in the top 5 at the NASA nationals 3 years in a row. Glynn Geddie was the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Pro-Am 1 Champion as well as helping his Trackspeed team mate win the 2010 British GT Championship. He is considered one of racing's fastest rising stars. Jean-Francois Dumoulin made his Rolex Series start in 2000. In 2007, he won the Rolex 24 at Daytona in GT competition.

"The thing I've found to be key is not only setting up a car that is going to be competitive on pace, comfortable for all 5 drivers and their varying styles, but also driver continuity. At the recent test I was impressed with how everyone communicated in general," Bennett said. "We have guys like Glynn that are only 20 years old, but showing excellent pace and skill on through to Dumoulin who has an impressive resume of experience he's bringing to the team. In all I am very pleased with our lineup and our chances to do well this weekend."

Bennett Racing is currently exploring the potential of a full season program and if things go as planned, could look to add additional cars to their stable to compete full time.
