Wonderful Restaurants - Menu Pages New Delhi Restaurant

What a Wonderful Restaurants in Delhi

New Delhi, India -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/02/2011 -- It would appear that Connaught Place, New Delhi (India) is the latest address to be getting a makeover. A slew of new restaurants are making their appearance, the latest (and most glitzy) of which is Side Wok, of Khan Market and Malcha Marg fame.

http://www.indiabite.com/non-veg/mutton/

The good news is that the Madras Hotel block is now filled to bursting with some great eating places, the most fancy of which is Side Wok. The bad news is that parking continues to be the nightmare it is. If you are lucky, the kitchen will be presided over by Chef Sarabjit Singh, executive chef of the chain. The only known turbaned Sikh to have specialised in Chinese food, he is as good as a chef from China! In spite of that, the menu is not overly exotic and has a huge range of dishes that you and I have enjoyed before.

http://www.indiabite.com/desserts/

Seafood asparagus dumpling (Rs 295) is great value for money, being filled with whole prawns in a rice flour dumpling, topped by a fresh asparagus spear. Served with two kinds of dips, it is a stylish way to begin your meal. Lumpia (Rs 235) is a pancake where the wrapper is made from egg and the filling is either minced prawns, chicken or lamb. I chose lamb and was quite intrigued with the sliced rolls from Philippines that worked well as a novel dim sum. The finest starter was paper chicken (Rs 255). Morsels of boneless chicken, a generous dollop of soy and shiitake mushrooms all wrapped in a sheet of butter paper and steamed, it was flavourful, filling and infinitely healthier than a deep-fried starter would have been.

http://www.indiabite.com/

Mizutaki soup (Rs 315 for two persons) was the old-fashioned steamboat soup, served the classic way, in a tureen with a central chimney, filled with fuel that kept the soup piping hot for over half an hour. The soup was a simple enough clear stock, to which rice noodles, sliced chicken, broccoli, carrots, fried tofu and bamboo shoot had been added. Only recommended when the rest of your meal is being kept light, it fills you up in no time. Side Wok meanders through the region of South East Asia, though the accent is on China. Our kung chu chi (Rs 495) was a delicate dish of prawns, with as much coconut cream as Thai red curry paste, flavoured with shreds of kaffir lime leaf. Elsewhere, the same dish has more curry paste, making it spicy rather than sophisticated. In the hands of Chef Sarabjit (he divides his time between the three branches and it was just my luck that he happened to be there on the evening of my visit) each dish has a clearly defined characteristic and not much gravy — just the way it ought to be.

Food - Mexican Food Chain Plans to Enter India

Mexican Food in India

New Delhi,-- (SBWIRE) -- 03/02/2011 -- Mexican food has all the things Indians love — corn, cheese and lots of chillies. Then why are we hung up on imitation enchiladas.
One item leaps out at you from the menu of Shiv Sagar, a preferred chain of Udupis in Mumbai: the quesadilla. It's like searhing samosas at a McDonald's. Unsurprisingly, the quesadilla at Shiv Sagar has been so Indianised it tastes like a cheese kathi roll. Even its pronunciation has been localised. The waiters solely understand it as ka-sa-dya.The final syllable is uttered with an emphatic, Bambaiyya roll of the tongue.
http://www.indiabite.com/

In Mumbai's Khar, the Taco Fresco, a franchised outlet of the Chicago-based chain of Mexican restaurants and eating places, is trying to fill this gap. Co-owner Sayeeda Kurlawala, who grew up eating Tex Mex in Houston, said she missed Mexican food and meals on her tours to India. Szechwan tacos were no substitute. The response to her eatery "has been two ends of the pendulum. Those who've had it domestically seek those kinds of items. The individuals who have had Mexican food in the West actually love it." Habitues of Indian Mexican won't find tacos filled with mushy rajma or enchiladas which can be stuffed, topped and surrounded with cheese and ketchup, the type available at Mumbai's New Yorker, or Delhi's Rodeo. At Taco Fresco, patrons ordering a taco will be served a tortilla heaped with chopped tomatoes, onions, Chihuahua cheese with salsa.
http://www.indiabite.com/desserts/

The owners of Sammy Sosa, a restaurant in Mumbai, believe in pandering to the Indian palate. The result is Indian meets Tex Mex, the culinary equivalent of a hombre in a Stetson. "The most important problem is of awareness,". "It's like Italian food 5 years back. You must cater to all types of crowds. Eating is not about a person. But also his father, grandfather, his family."Kapoor believes that adaptation "helps folks take pleasure themselves". Attracting diners wasn't easy. "Out of 10 people, three were keen to try. "People were apprehensive. However the restauratants at the moment are confident sufficient to coax diners to try experimental Mexican dishes.
http://www.indiabite.com/non-veg/mutton/

Taco Fresco is just not the first restaurant to supply authentic Mexican. Delhi has Sancho's, which patrons claim is the closest you will get to the real enchilada, and Mumbai had 2 well-known Mexican joints in the past, The Oberoi's Casa Mexicana and The Taj President's El Mexicano. The latter opened in 1996 and ran for about six years, after which it was shut down, however not because it didn't do well. Solomon reckons that Mexican isn't properly represented because Indians don't travel to Mexico much.

In fact, people didn't know what to order and needed to be steered to their decisions by the staff. Many nonetheless don't know what to order at Taco Fresco. We have to ask questions, then we suggest. Based on Solomon, "you have to position Mexican in the method that Thai was positioned" to ensure that it to be successful. He's referring to The President's Thai Pavilion, which went from being a great restaurant to the flag bearer for authentic Thai food in the city.

Admission process in Jamia Gets a Makeover

New Delhi, India -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/02/2011 -- The admission process at Jamia Millia Islamia university awaits a drastic makeover. From conducting 50 entrance tests every year, the university will now hold just eight tests in all for admission to all its undergraduate programmes this year, vicechancellor Najeeb Jung said.
http://www.onlineduniya.com/education/

Jamia — a central university — starts its sale of admission forms in March and conducts written tests usually in May every year. A large number of students applying to my university come from rural areas. Seeking admission to two or more programmes means that they need to stay here longer to take different entrance tests. I want to cut down on this inconvenience. "So, we've decided to reduce the number of entrance examinations by almost 85 per cent." The university intends to implement this decision by conducting a common test for all subjects under one stream. For instance, there will be one exam for all programmes under arts, science and social science streams, respectively. This year, the gap between the tests and their results will also be reduced. The makeover won't stop at this. The content of the question papers, too, is set to change.
http://www.onlineduniya.com/education/online-degrees/

As against testing students mainly on the knowledge of the subject they wish to study at Jamia, we will now evaluate the applicant's aptitude for the discipline. So a science student applying to an arts programme, comparatively, is not at a disadvantage.

To assess the aptitude for a particular discipline, the question paper will test applicants on their grammar, general knowledge, basic mathematical skills and elementary knowledge of the subject they are applying to.
http://www.onlineduniya.com/education/mba-education/

Ba Course Back
A year after it was discontinued, the BA course is set to make a comeback at the university in the next academic year. It was discontinued temporarily last year as the university felt that it was " non- serious" in content and, consequently, the students, too, were uninterested in studies. But the course — which has undergone a complete overhaul under the supervision of the dean of social sciences, the head of political science and the dean of natural sciences — will have fewer seats on offer. Earlier, the programme would admit 190 students, but this time it has been reduced to 50. " We want to ensure eye- to- eye contact with the teacher,".

The course will allow students to study classical subjects and also imbibe some job- oriented skills. There are five papers in all. For one paper, students will have to study either computer application or travel and tourism.
http://www.onlineduniya.com/education/online-degrees/accounting-degree-online.html

What's New
Students applying to Jamia this year...will have fewer entrance exams to take as the university has reduced the total tests from 50 to eight will be tested in basic aptitude for the subject applied to as against their knowledge of the subject will be able to apply to the BA programme. The course has been restructured and will be relaunched in the new academic session.

Delhi University Teacher Stir Leads to Poor Results in Semester

New Delhi, India -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/02/2011 -- They were told the battle was being waged for their " own good". But undergraduate science students of Delhi University ( DU) have now discovered that they were the biggest casualty in the protracted standoff between the university's administration and teachers.

http://www.onlineduniya.com/education/online-degrees/accounting-degree-online.html

There are a total of four theory papers in each science subject under the semester system. An analysis of the results of science students in the North Campus — comprising 18 colleges — shows that the majority of those who failed were from colleges worst affected by the teachers' stir.

While students of Miranda House, St Stephen's, Hansraj, Kalindi, Daulat Ram and Bhagini Nivedita — colleges largely aunaffected by the stir — have passed in most of their theory papers, the marksheets of students at Kirori Mal, Ramjas, Zakir Husain, Rajdhani, Shivaji, Swami Shraddhanand and Deen Dayal Upadhyay are dotted with small, black letters ' E- R' — meaning ' essential repeat'. At Kirori Mal College ( KMC), for instance, classes for BSc courses hardly took place before November.

http://www.onlineduniya.com/education/
It was only after November 15, when the Delhi High Court ordered professors to teach in the semester mode, that classes picked up speed. Accordingly, the first semester syllabus had to be completed in less than a month's time.

KMC, predictably, has the worst results among the eight coveted North Campus colleges offering science courses. Six of the 29 students studying zoology ( almost 21 per cent) have not passed in at least two or more theory papers.
http://www.onlineduniya.com/education/online-degrees/
Students of life science, botany and physical science at KMC have suffered a similar fate. Over 15 per cent of the total students in each of these subjects have got an E- R in two or more papers.

Giving KMC competition is Zakir Husain College — known for its science courses. Professors of this college, too, participated actively in the agitation and the results are for all to see.

Twenty two of the 53 students in electronics first- year have flunked at least two of the four theory papers. More than 20 per cent students in botany, physical science, chemistry, life science and zoology courses have also failed in at least two papers.

"The results clearly reflect where the strikes were at their worst," a member of the vice- chancellor's team said. But the abysmal performance by a few colleges hasn't caused a furore, thanks to a huge concession provided by DU. All students, including those who have E- R in all four theory papers, have been promoted to the second semester. This, however, is a one- time exception.

http://www.onlineduniya.com/education/mba-education/

"This was done at the suggestion of the committee formed under the direction of high court to resolve the semester tussle amicably.

Keeping in mind the interest of the students, it was decided that everyone will be promoted this time. DU professors had locked horns with the administration last year over the semester system across 13 science programmes.

"The teachers were so confident that the annual system would continue that they taught us topics which were not part of the first semester syllabus. Towards the end of November, they rushed through the syllabus," Saumya Jaitley, a first- year chemistry student at KMC, said. While some college principals have directly acknowledged the effects of the stir on science results, others have chosen to attribute it to a host of other factors.
