Common Reasons for Failing Your Practical Driving Test

Learner drivers, who want to pass their practical driving test, must prepare driving test with confidence and avoid some common mistakes.

Jersey., St. Helier, Channel Islands -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/11/2012 -- Following are the most common mistakes that will cause failure in practical driving test:

- Proper use of steering failure:

When you are driving your vehicle you must control on your vehicles steering. This category involves a lot of care of the steering wheel and the control of it. Don't cross your hands on the wheel, Allow steering wheel to spin back after a turn or drive with any hands off the wheel for any longer than they have to be.

- Proper use of gears failure:

In normal driving, Gears plays a very important role to control the car. Before you move away, make sure you are in the right gear. When slowing down or coming to a stop, use the brakes to slow down the car. Remember that you should not use gears. If you are in emergency situations, you can use gears for braking. In general rule, Move into 2nd gear as soon as you move from stationary, 3rd gear at 20mph, 4th gear at 30mph, and 5th gear at 40mph.

- Problems with parking manoeuvres:

One of the hardest manoeuvres is reverse parking. On the road, probably the most used manoeuvre is Reverse parking. In this manoeuvre, the purpose to test your observation, accuracy, control over vehicle and clutch while moving backwards. When reversing keep slow and giving yourself a plenty of time to reverse and observe cyclists, pedestrians and other vehicles if they seen then stop your vehicle.

Drive alongside a parked car and reverse back within the space of two car lengths without hitting the kerb and whilst observing for other road users.

- Incorrectly reversing around a corner:

In this manoeuvre, the purpose is to test your Control, accuracy and observation. Lack of observation and hitting the curb and is a common reason to fail your test. During the reversing, use an appropriate speed. Keep slow and giving yourself enough time to judge your distances correctly.

- Failure to drive at road junctions:

If you are driving over a junction, you must slow down your vehicle and check your mirror that helps to make an emergency stop. If you want to turn, check signal to turn and your mirrors, and slow down your vehicle while turning. A common test fail with junctions is limit lines. Lack of observation and fast driving in junctions results fail in test.

- Effective use of mirrors Failure:

Wrong use of mirrors is a common mistake, especially when turning and changing lane. Check your mirrors if change speed, direction change and slowing down. Between 25 to 50% of your driving time should be glancing in mirrors.

- Failure to drive properly turning right:

Use the correct mirrors and indicate when turning right. It can be difficult to Judge the correct time to turn. Observe an appropriate gap in the oncoming traffic and Wait when traffic goes on. You know how long it takes for you to turn right; the aim is not to hold other people up.

- Too slowly driving:

When are driving over the speed limit or drive too slowly, the examiner will fail you. Drive at the speed limit and not unnecessarily slow when the road you are driving is safe and clear. Very slow driving slow can be frustrating for other road users.

If you want to pass your driving test then must avoid above mistakes and perpare driving test questions with confidence.

Foreigners Without Knowing English Clear UK Driving Test

According to government documents, over 10,000 people of various nationalities have cleared driving tests in Britain without having a basic knowledge of English.

Jersey., St. Helier, Channel Islands -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/21/2012 -- According to Daily Express documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act showed that the 10,330 learner drivers passed the driving test with interpreters sitting in the back seat relaying instructions in their local language.

There are number of facilities provided by Driving Standards Agency (DSA) to the people who don't understand English language. Foreign drivers are not capable of reading instructions on road signs written in English. The DSA has provided special facilities for those people, who are unable to understand English. All these facilities need to be requested at the time of booking your theory test. There are theory test practice study material available that can help to clear driving test.

Ministers are also worried about the safety implications of providing driving license to number of people who do not speak English and cannot read road signs.

Transport minister Mike Penning said: "I find it incredible that Labour thought it was a good idea to let people without Basic English loose on our roads. Road safety should be our priority, not political correctness".

"Instead of spending taxpayers' money on costly translation services and interpreters we want to explore whether that money would be better spent on actually helping people to learn enough English to be able to drive safely".

Driving Standards Agency said: "We are review the level of foreign language support currently provided for drivers. Any changes to the current measures would be subject to a full public meeting".

The Driving Standards Agency website tells drivers that it is their responsibility to arrange an interpreter, who must be at least 16, and pay for the service.

The rules currently allow the theory test to be sat in 21 foreign languages. People are also permitted to attend the practical test with a translator.

If your first language is not English, or you can not read or understand written English well, you can request a voiceover in one of 21 languages(Albanian, Gujarati, Hindi, Arabic, Bengali, Punjabi, Pushto, Spanish, Tamil, Turkish, Urdu, Cantonese, Dari, English, Farsi, Kashmiri, Kurdish, Mirpuri, Polish, Portuguese, Welsh). A voiceover allows you to hear the theory test instructions and questions through headphones. The questions will automatically be read out to you, you can hear the answer options by touching the text on the screen. You can hear the questions as many times as you like, you simply need to touch the text of the question onscreen again.

It is cleared from the recent survey conducted by DSA people who don't have basic knowledge of English still book theory test and pass the driving theory test in UK. There might be a possibility that DSA will allow English as a compulsory language in future.
