While scientific technology has progressed to the point where antiretroviral drugs can effectively kill HIV viruses in the body that are out in the open, HIV persists in places where the drugs can&apos;t get to them. These places are called HIV reservoirs, and these reservoirs ensure that small batches of virus remain in the body, ready to replicate when necessary. This is part of what makes HIV a chronic infection—the remaining virus finds ways to remain dormant in the body until activated. Research is now focusing on cracking the case of HIV persistence.<br />

The goal of researchers now is to remove the "chronic" term from the chronic illness that is HIV and come up with a cure for the disease. A better understanding of HIV and how it infects people to begin with might be the key to discovering ways to enter the reservoirs within the body and eliminate the virus. As we already know, HIV infects cells in two ways: through blood plasma contact with T-cells, and from infected T-cells to non-infected T-cells.  Antiretroviral drugs, while effective, don&apos;t remove the entire virus quantity, and all it takes is for one HIV virus to remain behind for the replication to continue.<br />
<br />
Recent research has found that while antiretroviral therapy (ART) is effective at significantly reducing the number of plasma-to-T-cell transmissions of HIV, it&apos;s not as effective against T-cell-to-T-cell. The remaining virus hides in infected T-cells, which allows it to easily be passed on to non-infected ones; this, in fact, is one of the reasons why HIV persists through ART. To use a football analogy, ART is able to intercept passes through the air (plasma) from one cell to another, but it can&apos;t stop direct handoffs. A strategy is needed to defend against each separately, because the same defense can&apos;t be used against both.<br />
<br />
Even with antiretroviral drugs present, infected T-cells can still infect other T-cells in close quarters instead of through the bloodstream; this often happens in the lymph nodes. Therefore, in order to find an actual cure for HIV, researchers need to find a way to deal with HIV reservoirs filled with both latent HIV virus and active virus that is transmitted from cell-to-cell. XZERES began developing its presence in the United Kingdom last November with the deployment of its first sales person in Scotland.  Earlier this year the Company achieved MCS certification in the United Kingdom, becoming at that time, one of only six small wind turbine companies globally to achieve this certification and thereby receiving permission to sell its small wind power systems in the UK; whereby UK customers receive a 20 year government grant (the Feed-in-Tariff) for purchasing and deploying a grid-connected small wind power system.  We then launched the UK-based direct sales program and released our WindRx renewable energy software to provide the economic value proposition to customers in the UK market.  Subsequent thereto, in May of this year, XZERES shipped its first container (9 units) of its next generation 442SR 10kW small wind power systems to the United Kingdom.<br />

For the three months ending June 30, 2011, MWW reported net sales of $449,235, a decrease of $602,260 compared to $1,051,495 for the first quarter of fiscal 2010. This decrease was driven by the exceptional decline in industry sales during the period, caused mainly by the catastrophe in Japan resulting in no or only minimal available inventory of automobiles from Japanese manufacturers. This lack of inventory resulted in a temporary reduction in orders from the Company&apos;s major customers. The production and inventory problems had already reduced sales in the 2nd quarter 2011, but are expected to be overcome sometime during late August or September. Despite the continuing lack of inventory during the third quarter, the Company has increased sales by 69% to $449,235 in the third quarter of 2011, compared with $265,354 in the 2nd quarter of 2011.<br />

Operating loss was reduced to 62% of revenue in the third quarter of 2011 compared with a 269% loss of revenue in the second quarter of 2011. This improvement was primarily attributable to the impact of the successful corporate-wide cost reduction exercises and streamlining of operations, although implementing significant expansions of the production lines at MWW&apos;s painting and assembly facility. The streamlining of these operations and the expectation of increasing production volume is expected to have a significant positive impact on revenues and profitability going forward. Despite this temporary lack of inventory MWW has been able to increase its sales and reduce operating expenses as a percentage of revenue in the third quarter of 2011 compared to the second quarter 2011. MWW&apos;s new management team has made significant progress on the Company&apos;s path of recovery, with the main focus on streamlining and expanding the production facilities in its "Class A" painting facility in Baroda, Michigan, in anticipation of the imminent start of production for new automotive customers and several large industrial projects. MWW has expanded its customer base significantly by adding large global and domestic automotive manufacturers and has completed the negotiations for its entry into the industrial markets, details of which will be announced soon.<br />

During the last two quarters, MWW has focused on stringent cost down exercises throughout the Company to compensate for the temporary decrease in revenue caused by the shortage of product deliveries from Japan.  MWW&apos;s new management team has utilized this time to acquire new customers not only in the automotive industry, but also in the industrial sector, in order to reduce its vulnerability caused by dependence on one industry or customer (brand) concentration.  As of now, the Company has commenced production on new contracts with automakers such as Hyundai, Nissan, Subaru, Chevrolet and Ford at its Class A painting facility. For all its faults, the post-secondary credential remains critical to the nation&apos;s as well as an individual&apos;s growth and prosperity. Geniuses, young or old, can&apos;t work through problems and discover solutions from inside a bubble, even if it is a $100,000 bubble. Before publishing his theory of relativity, which enriched physics and astronomy in the 20th century, Albert Einstein earned a four-year degree to teach mathematics, helping launching his career as a theoretical physicist.<br />

Thiel is correct that colleges have become moribund in how they prepare students for today&apos;s high-tech economy that has seen great innovations and promises more. We agree with him that the nation needs different models for higher education. As computer technology advances, rapidly and with no end in sight, in the last half century it has created a different world with societies and people connected at work and play and daily living. And it does so in a multitude of ways unimagined just 15 years ago. It is time for higher education to advance and adapt to reflect this new order.<br />
