Vancouver, BC -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/04/2009 -- Blenz The Canadian Coffee Company will open the doors to their second location in Vernon today. Only 3 months after opening the first Vernon store, the 56th store in BC marks the first drive-thru location in Blenz' 17-year history.

Situated in northern Vernon in the centre of a rapidly developing area, this Blenz is bordered by the highway, mountains, a new casino, and Vernon's only Real Canadian Superstore right across the street. With most of the neighbourhood's population driving this route daily, Blenz could not ask for a more ideal drive-thru location.

The store is owned by Caroline and Trevor Koenig, the same proud franchised partners of the first Blenz in Vernon. They welcomed friends and guests to their grand opening party last night. The event was attended by Blenz vice-president Tak Aramaki and VP of development Larry Kinash, who congratulated the Koenigs as well as Okanagan master franchisors David and Nancy McDougall and Graham and Carol Hawkins for the store's successful grand opening.

For the Koenigs, integrating the drive-thru component means extra equipment and training, but by making the Blenz experience more accessible to the customer, both the customer and Blenz win.

Vancouver, British Columbia -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/24/2009 -- The newest Blenz Coffee location opened today in the heart of downtown Vernon, marking their sixth location in the Okanagan and their 54th in BC. Now Vernonites too can enjoy the warm atmosphere and handcrafted beverages that Blenz Coffee is renowned for.

This particular location was previously an independent coffee house called El Portillo, owned by the current franchised partners Trevor and Caroline Koenig. Over the last few days, the employees have been transformed into Blenz baristas and the store converted into Blenz Coffee. It is by far the largest Blenz Coffee in BC with three separate seating areas, a spacious patio, and their own parking lot, making it a destination for locals and travellers alike.

The Koenigs were always fans of Blenz Coffee. When they moved to Vernon a little over a year ago they could not find a Blenz Coffee location to purchase right away so they bought El Portillo, hoping that one day they will become a part of the Blenz Coffee family. Now the whole family – Trevor, Caroline, and their two children Ashley and Ryan – are part of the team, raising the bar in the coffee house scene in Vernon. The Millrock Latte Art Competition is the marquis event of Coffee Fest, the premier North American coffee and tea tradeshow. Spectators and competitors alike gather to watch latte artists pour intricate designs of steamed milk into dark, creamy espresso to produce a perfectly balanced latte beverage.

The Millrock Latte Art Competition is a globally recognized latte art competition, and the most recent competition took place in Las Vegas this past weekend, June 12 through June 14. As a member of "Team BC", sponsored by Blenz Coffee, Wang and fellow Blenz barista Tony Tsai were flown to Las Vegas to compete in a field of 40 baristas representing the creme de la creme of latte artists from around the globe, each selected to participate by an expert jury based on their submitted sample photos and essays.

Wang and Tsai both poured well enough in Friday's preliminary round to finish in the Top Ten. After Saturday's competition, the results posted showed that Tsai and Wang had both been bumped, but after Wang showed the judges an error in their scoring tabulations, it was revealed that he had come in at 8th place, which allowed him to compete in Sunday's Finals. On Sunday, Wang placed his bet on his signature rosetta pour, which first put him into a five-way tie for third place, then into a two-way tie for third, until finally, he was able to persevere under enormous pressure to emerge as the true third place finisher. "I was very nervous. I felt like all my energy was drained after the competition, but I am happy now that I finished in 3rd place," Wang said, "I hope I can bring back 1st place next time!"

The judges placed Nathan Black from Brothers K Coffee House in Evanston, IL in second place, and Chris Deferio of Carriage House Cafe in Ithaca, NY is the first place finisher.

Blenz baristas have built a very strong reputation at the Millrock Latte Art competition over the years. In 2007, Blenz Coffee's director of training, Layla Osberg, earned two first place finishes at the Millrock Latte Art Competitions in Atlanta and in Seattle.
