Cascade Discusses a New Scheme That Allows Patients to Register With GP Near Work

Plymouth, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/05/2012 -- Patients will be able to register with a GP close to their work under a new proposal. Labour first announced plans to relax the rules on GP registration and now Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has now pushed the proposal forward. A source from Cascade has commented on this report, saying, "Many of us have hectic lives so health services should be there to make things easier. A busy mum needs flexibility - she may want to register at a practice near her children's school. If you work long hours, you may want to register at a practice closer to work. It makes perfect sense."

An agreement between doctors and the Government now means NHS patients in England could also change to a GP near a relative they care for or close to a child's school. It also means that those who move only a short distance can stay with their current surgery. The Managing Director from Cascade, a successful marketing company based in Plymouth which is continually expanding has commented on the proposal, saying, "Giving patients the choice of clinic is a great idea, it will certainly prove beneficial for a lot of people, whatever their circumstances."

Mr Lansley said: "Patients often tell me that they want more choice over which practice they can register with, so I am pleased that this deal allows three major pilots to be launched across England that will allow patients to register at practices away from where they live, such as near to where they work. This will allow us to test and evaluate the issues that the profession has expressed concerns about. The deal will also mean that patients may not be forced to change GP surgery if they move locally. This will save up to three million people who move locally every year the hassle of re-registering as they can remain with the practice of their choice." A source from Cascade, have said "This scheme is great for patients, GP's and for the NHS, I can see the scheme producing better care for patients. In the current economic situation and with Doctor's agreeing to a pay-freeze for 2012 and 2013 this should hopefully see positive financial results as well."

Cascade On Plymouth Athletes Celebrating Women In Sports Day

Plymouth, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/30/2012 -- Competition has always been fierce between the athletes in the North and South of Plymouth. But for at least one day that competition was put to the side recently for a celebration of women in sports. Last month, North's Kacey Dory and Katrina Borofski along with South's Becca Laudermilk and Serena Colbert headed to Faneuil Hall in Boston for the annual Massachusetts celebration of Girls and Women in Sports Day. The event recognizes female athletes and celebrates the achievements of girls and women in sport. We spoke to a source at Cascade, a Plymouth-based sales and marketing company, who said "It's important for female athletes to be recognised and rewarded. There's such a wealth of talent in Plymouth and to see them celebrated internationally is great."

The keynote speech at the event was delivered by Kristine Lilly, who has represented the US in international women's soccer competition more than any other individual, and is one of the most decorated female athletes in US history. You'd have to look long and hard to find another athlete with the career accolades that equals Lilly's. When she retired from the sport in January, 2011, Lilly had been at the top of her sport in four different decades. She played in five World Cups and was a part of three different Olympic teams. A 23-year veteran of the U.S. Women's National Soccer team, she was a two-time world champion and is the proud owner of two Olympic Gold Medals.

"Kristine Lilly is an inspirational individual," said our source at Cascade, "She broke a world record for caps held by a female, and then just went right on ahead to break the men's record as well. You couldn't ask for a better speaker at an event like this."

Laudermilk, Colbert, Dory and Borofski may have seen some familiar faces in the audience at the event. Michaela Flanagan and Ali Dean, both from Plymouth, were chosen to represent Archbishop Williams High School as leaders and contributing members of both their teams and their school community.

"They are stars who shine in many skies," Dr. Carmen Mariano, President of Archbishop Williams High School, said. "They are outstanding athletes and effective leaders. They are excellent students. They are stellar citizens of our school. Just when I don't think they can make me prouder, they do."

Our source at Cascade said, "It's a good sign for the future of sport in Plymouth, when our young people are being recognised like this. I can't wait to see what the future holds for these ladies."

Daunting New Unemployment Rates Have Cascade's Crew Astonished

Plymouth, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/28/2012 -- Cascade are amazed at the enormous increase in the UK's unemployment rate. With Britain facing its highest redundancy rate since 1995, the number of people out of work is just constantly rising. You'd like to think that businesses are looking to gain new employees and recruit higher levels of knowledge, when actually it has been made clear that most businesses are leaning more towards cutting staff rather than hiring. Although there are no groups of people that are entirely safe from this employment disaster, there are particular cultures of people being affected more so than others may be. With Liam Byrne MP, Labour's shadow work and pensions secretary responding to the recent unemployment figures with "The surge in women's unemployment is reaching shocking levels but instead of helping more families into work, next month's cuts to tax credits are set to make thousands better off if they quit their jobs and start claiming out of work benefits". Cascade's crew were also astonished to find the Guardian newspaper state "1/2 of UK's young black males are unemployed."

When looking into the topic of unemployment rates even further, a source at Cascade was found to be "shocked" with the new rise of unemployment in young people aged 16-24. Cascade's source announced "being a young person myself I find it truly shocking with the number of people around my age group being kept out of work."

The new rise in figures is a daunting thought and is looking to become even scarier. With the unemployment figures already having grown from 28,000 to 2.67million sources at Cascade are thinking it's about time these figures became a bit smaller. Unfortunately it doesn't look that way, With the CBI predicting end of 2012 homing 2.87million unemployed people and 2.91million by 2013. Much higher than the present 8.4% we currently hold!

Shocked by the recent publications, Cascade's managing director, Will Higgs, commented: 'It is terrible to read about the devastating effects this recession has had on so many hard working people. We are in a great position here at Cascade to be able to ride out the recession and continue to grow our business thanks to the innovative marketing strategies we have put in place for our clients. We have proved ourselves able to increase a company's market share and profitability whilst simultaneously making them more competitive and offering better value for customers. This has helped our clients to continue their growth through the economic downturn and minimise job cuts. We hope to have a positive impact on the economy in this respect and are confident that through continuing our efforts and combining them with strong business partnerships we can be a major force in rescuing the UK economy and bring business back on track. We look forward to seeing the knock on effect of our operations resulting in customers being able to spend more in the community and local businesses benefitting long term.'

Cascade Supports More Women in Power

Plymouth, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/28/2012 -- As the managing director of a modern, progressive company, Will Higgs is keen to see a rise in the percentage of women heading up some of the UK's 100 largest-listed companies. Recent reports point to an increase of 15.6%. "An improved when compared with 12.5% last March," Will Higgs, MD of Plymouth-based Cascade, commented recently on the statistics released by the Cranfield School of Management.

The government is reported to have warned FTSE 100 companies they must secure a minimum 25% of female directors by 2015 or else face possible measures, with legislature being threatened by the European Union. The EU's Justice Commissioner, Viviane Reding, has said that "self-regulation so far has not brought about satisfactory results".

The Cranfield School of Management intends to publish their report on women in UK every six months in response to the recommendations put forward by Lord Davies in February 2011.

Will Higgs will be keeping up with future reports, expecting to see a steady increase in the number of female directors and board members. The report's co-author Susan Vinnicombe echoed these hopes, saying Cranfield were pleased to be reporting substantial improvements in the role women have to play in the modern corporate world; "The past 12 months have seen a significant amount of global activity around diversifying boards. If the momentum we have seen continues we could achieve 30% women on boards in less than four years, which would be a terrific achievement."

"This can only be good for business," said Will Higgs, whose company – Cascade – has come out in full support of having more women in high-power jobs. "But we must not forget the issue of equal pay for men and women. This is still an issue for many companies which need to be addressed, and only when women are truly considered equal can the world of business can progress to a bright new future."

Cascades Thought Turn to the Queens Anniversary of Her Accession to the Throne

Plymouth, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/27/2012 -- Cascade is a marketing and sales company located on the Barbican in Plymouth. To mark the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's succession to the throne, Cascade reports on this.

On the 6th February 1952, King George VI died unexpectedly in his sleep, forcing Princess Elizabeth and her husband to cut short their tour of Kenya and return to England as Queen. She was welcomed back to English soil by the then Prime Minister, Winston Churchill.

A source from Cascade says: "It's quite amazing to think of the technological advances that have happened since the young Elizabeth came to the throne"

It has been reported on Sky news that when Elizabeth came to the throne, only 75% of houses had baths, hardly any had telephones and the average house price was just £2000.

The queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have made plans to travel as much as possible during her diamond jubilee year, and several other royals have numerous tours to complete around the world as well. No doubt this will bring some great publicity to our shores.

The managing director of Cascade says "It is a fantastic historical achievement for her majesty the Queen to hit the second diamond jubilee of history. Her devotion and work ethic is something we can all aspire to; and be incredibly proud and privileged we have such a dedicated head of state.

Celebrations are set to span 4 days in June, once the weather (with a bit of luck, and fingers crossed!) is warmer, and no doubt will be a time for British patriotism to come out in full force on our little island. As one thing we can safely say we British do very well, is pomp!

Cascade is certainly looking forward to this and will be celebrating her majesties 60 years on the throne in style.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Cascade Plymouth
Email: Click to Email Cascade Plymouth
Web: http://cascadeplymouth.com/

Cascade's Managing Director Comments on Military Wives' Joy As Song Raises £500,000 for Charities

Plymouth, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/27/2012 -- Military Wives Choir members said they were still "pinching themselves" as they announced their Christmas number one single had raised more than half a million pounds for charity. The song Wherever You Are, which used lines from the wives' love letters to their husbands serving in Afghanistan, was the fastest-selling charity single since Elton John's Candle In The Wind in 1997, the Official Charts Company confirmed. Managing Director of Cascade, a sales and marketing company, said "Here at Cascade, we believe in success from within. The military wives' success in raising £500,000 is incredible and all down to how they feel. Their lyrics, which are taken from letters they wrote to their husbands is a prime example of success from within."

As the group, formed by the wives of servicemen from Plymouth-based 42 Commando and RMB Chivenor, and their choral director Gareth Malone presented a cheque for £503,985 to the Royal British Legion and the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help, yesterday, Mr Malone said it felt like a dream. He added: "It's astonishing that something we recorded in a few hours has taken off like this. When I first heard the song, I thought there is something here that will appeal to lots of people but I had no idea it would take off like this. Nothing I have ever done comes close to this. Managing Director of Cascade, continued further, "When I first heard this song, I could feel the emotion in the lyrics, and I think one of the reasons why people love them and why they have had huge success with this song is because although a lot of people may not be able to wholly relate to the song or the wives' they have a better understanding of their situations"

Mr Malone the choral director said he thought the British public enjoyed the chance to have a cry that the song offered. "We are stoical by nature and all that but we like those moments where you get a good chance to let it all out and that is absolutely what that has been like for these women, letting ten years in Afghanistan and all the pent-up emotion and difficulty come out and having a good cry. It makes you feel a lot better" he said. Cascade's Managing Director went on to say, "The Military Wives' 100% deserve every penny of the money raised."

The choir also announced they will release an album in time for Mother's Day, featuring the single, as well as covers of Adele and U2 songs. It will raise money for the Military Wives Choir Foundation to help set up other choirs on military bases.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Cascade Plymouth
Email: Click to Email Cascade Plymouth
Web: http://cascadeplymouth.com/

Cascade Discuss How Plymouth Has Its Eyes on being UK's City of Culture

Plymouth, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/27/2012 -- Arts bosses are exploring the possibility of Plymouth becoming UK City of Culture 2017. Cascade is excited with the prospect of this becoming a reality. The Managing Director comments saying, 'Plymouth is a beautiful city. I chose Plymouth as a base for my business for the growth opportunities available and I was excited to live by the coast and a city that is rich with cultural history.'

Professor Andrew Brewerton, principle of Plymouth College of Art, said the city had the "energy and potential".It would make Plymouth the second UK city to hold the title, after Derry in 2013. This a phenomenal promoting tool to encourage tourism in the area and build up the local community. A source from Cascade that is local to Plymouth said, 'this is just the boost the city has been looking for.'

The UK City of Culture project was launched by the government after Liverpool was the European Capital of Culture in 2008.Prof Brewerton said Plymouth had shown its credentials as a city of culture by hosting British Art Show 7, a program of contemporary art in 2011.

Professor Andrew BrewertonPrinciple of Plymouth College of Art said: "Plymouth people in their thousands showed an interest in some of the most challenging contemporary art around.Plymouth has to look to the horizons rather than look inwards with its cultural scope."He said that the idea was being discussed with arts venues in the city.He admitted that the cost of putting on the event could be a hurdle.

Aberdeen withdrew from bidding for the 2013 event after estimating the cost at up to £12m.But Prof Brewerton added: "The return on the investment will be worth the effort. At the moment it is really just a conversation and we need to see what kind of appetite Plymouth has for it."

Cascade is based near the city centre of Plymouth. Newly formed in October 2011 to service a growing demand in the business development sector, Cascade offers a system of unique direct marketing solutions. Cascade specialize in maximizing the potential of a business to ride out the recession and even continue growing in an economic climate where many companies are struggling to maintain their turnover. The managing director of Cascade comments further to say, 'having Plymouth as the UK City of Culturewill give the city a much needed boost.'s

Tennis Toddler Wows All at Cascade Plymouth

Plymouth, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/27/2012 -- It's yet another YouTube sensation that has amazed the thousands of internet users who have watched since the clip went viral, including those at Plymouth-based firm Cascade - a British toddler, barely two years old, has been filmed playing table tennis.

"I couldn't believe it either," said an overawed source within Cascade. "I thought the clip had to be faked, it just looked so impossible." But the clip is 100% real, according to parents of the talented micro-star. Father Kevin Buddell was reported in the Daily Mail as finding the whole experience "mind boggling".

The ninety-second clip of little Jamie Myskova-Buddell shows the toddler perched on a full-size table, hitting a table tennis ball back to his father with professional sportsman-like skill – and over 630,000 people are already reported to have viewed the clip in the few days since it was first posted on the viral video site. Now the Buddell family, who are from Plymouth, are receiving calls from media around the world as the table tennis toddler becomes a global phenomenon, and even US TV personality Ellen DeGeneres wants to feature the star on her chat show.

"That's the power of the internet," said a source at Cascade, who isn't surprised by the rate at which little Jamie's fame has been growing. "All it takes to make it big with the YouTube generation is to be unusual, funny and a little bit unbelievable, and this certainly ticks all the right boxes."

"Jamie seemed to pick it up naturally after he started playing with a table tennis ball," Kevin told the Daily Mail, "and it wasn't long before he was hitting it with a bat. Now he carries a bat everywhere he goes." Mr Buddell runs a car hire company in Plymouth and is also a former table tennis star, while his partner Marketa Myskova also plays the sport at venues around the UK. Kevin says this whole adventure began when his wife wanted to send a video of Jamie to her folks in Prague. The video was uploaded to YouTube and at first only reached 350 views, but then it went crazy last week." Now the family have appeared on ABC in America. "We did it as a bit of fun," said Kevin. "Now everyone is raving about it."

The Music of Colour

Plymouth, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/27/2012 -- Until he was eleven years old, Neil Harbisson didn't know the only shade he could see was grey. He thought his eyes were seeing colours just fine, but that his brain was confusing them somehow. Then Neil was diagnosed with achromatopsia, a very rare vision disorder which affects the sufferer's ability to perceive colour, particularly in strong light. "It was a bit of a shock," Neil told the BBC News website. "The doctors said the condition was impossible to cure, but at least we knew what was wrong."

A source at Cascade spoke of their interest in such a rare and potentially life-altering condition, and like many, they had never heard of achromatopsia. In fact, type it into Microsoft Word and there is every chance that even the spell checker will not recognise the name. That is because achromatopsia affects only one person out of 30,000 – that's a recurrence of 0.0033%.

Since being diagnosed, Neil Harbisson has endeavoured not to let his condition define his existence. At the age of sixteen he decided to study art, and when he told his tutor he could only see in basic monotones, the incredulous teacher replied: "Then what the hell are you doing here?" Neil explained that he wanted to understand what colour was, and that has become his mission in life.

"I was allowed to do the entire art course in greyscale," Neil, now a well-known artist, told the BBC News website. "I did very figurative art - using only black and art – trying to reproduce what I could see so that people could compare how my vision was to what they themselves saw." His artwork has since been exhibited in London, Vienna and Barcelona among others. "It's pretty unique work," said the managing director of Cascade, who was impressed by the artist's take on modern art.

While in his second year at university Neil attended a lecture on cybernetics given by Adam Montandon, a student of Plymouth University. The pair soon started work on the 'eyeborg', a cybernetic peripheral device comprised of a webcam, a micro-processor and a headset, which translates colour into sound. Once completed, Neil would wear the eyeborg almost constantly, removing it only for repairs. "The eyeborg changed the way I perceive art. Now I have a completely new world where colour and sound are exactly the same thing."

Cascade's MD is one of many to be impressed by what Neil Harbisson has achieved. "This is modern technology at its best. I've even heard that the eyeborg allows Mr Harbisson to see into the infrared spectrum, which human eyes cannot see. It's hard to believe all this came from a chance meeting at a university lecture."

Cascade Comments on Computer Glitch That Halts Post Offices

Plymouth, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/26/2012 -- In the 21st century we rely on computers for almost everything, laptop sales have risen, Smartphone's are the norm and each and every day there is a new computer device made to make our everyday lifestyle easier, but what happens when the computer fails?

Post offices rely on computers for everything ranging from banking to sending parcels but for one post office in Plymouth their postmasters found it "difficult to even sell a stamp" after a computer glitch brought their services to a standstill. Plymouth sub post-master said ""We couldn't get a connection so we couldn't use the computer at all. Each time I went to log in I was unable to do so" a source from Cascade had this to say "Computers are needed more so now than ever before, we use computers in our everyday life we rely on computers to do the most simplistic tasks" The glitch struck Plymouth branches at 11.30am and was not solved until 3.00pm, although very stressful for the employees it leaves the rest of us asking the questions such as "Should their be a back up service"

Plymouth post office was one of many affected by the glitch, Business at every single city branch was affected by a fault thought to have hit the Post Office's £1billion Horizon system yesterday. Staff at the post office in Torridge Way, Efford, said they had experienced exactly the same problem. An employee for the post office had this to say "it was the third time the billion-pound Horizon system had appeared to temporarily fail within a matter of months" The fault is thought to have been caused by the automation project built by fijitsu, the project was brought to all 18,000 branches across the UK, to help improve banking facilities, provide access to government information, bill payments, recharging smartcards and online verification. A source with Cascade has said that "Project Fijitsu was built to make life a little bit easier and help the running of the business to be smoother and faster" but yesterday city customers were left standing in queues and unable to send parcels, renew car tax or access other services.

This computer fault has shown the damage that can be done by failings in the system, which brings back the question "Should their be a back up system" In the days before computers were invented postmasters were required to do everything by hand, Would it be easier to do this? Our source from Cascade said this "Yes, I do agree their should be a back up system in place, but post masters doing it all by hand is not an option as there are just too many customers to cater to" Post Office spokeswoman Valerie Antoine said: "The Post Office apologises to its customers for the inconvenience caused by a computer problem. We are very sorry for any difficulties this has caused our customers."

Cascade Comments on Opening of Plymouth Life Centre

Plymouth, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/26/2012 -- It's been announced that the Plymouth Life Centre will open in March. The centre was originally projected to open in December 2011, but was pushed back due to delays in the construction process. The keys to the building will officially be handed over to owners Everyone Active on the 27th February this year, and the doors are expected to be opened to the public over the weekend of the 23rd to the 25th March, after a short period of staff training and "internal fit-out". A source from Cascade, a local sales and marketing company said, "The project has been a long time coming for Plymouth, and will be a great addition to the city. If it takes a little longer to get it right I'm sure it's worth it."

"We are obviously disappointed that the centre will be opening a few weeks later than expected," said Council Leader Viven Pengelly, "but we have to remember that this has been a major project to create a world-class facility that will cater for the city's sporting needs for many years." The councillor added, "You would normally expect projects of this scale to experience far greater setbacks than this. It's fantastic that we now have a planned opening date for the Plymouth Life Centre and people can finally start counting down the days to using this incredible facility."

The centre will house a leisure pool, climbing zone and a 50-metre Olympic-sized swimming pool, as well as many other facilities. "Although it's taken a while, it's really only a matter of weeks now until we'll finally see the results of all the planning and hard work," said our source from Cascade.

Cllr Pengelly added, "We promised local residents and the sporting community a centre of the highest quality and that is what they will get – we will not be cutting any corners. There are just a few months now until we open the doors and people will be absolutely bowled over when they get to see everything the centre has to offer. I am over the moon."

David Bibby, managing director of Everyone Active, added: "As the operators we're delighted to be getting the opening confirmation - it is very important for the operations team already working behind the scenes in Plymouth. They can begin recruiting staff, finalising internal fit-out, timetables, as well as keeping all the community informed about future use of the centre and arrangements for opening."

"I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the facilities," said our source from Cascade. Cascade is a Plymouth-based company, providing marketing solutions on a nationwide stage.

Cascade Comments on the Impact of Boscombe Artificial Surf Reef

Plymouth, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/26/2012 -- Academics from Plymouth University are set to survey local businesses and people who depend on the sea for work or leisure, to determine the economic impact of Dorset's artificial surf reef. They survey will focus on whether the scheme has value for money. The £3.2m underwater reef, off Boscombe, was closed in March 2011 after only two years, because of damage. A spokesperson for Cascade, a local sales and marketing company commented that the survey was a positive idea, and that it was "important to quantify the performance of the reef, and then make informed decisions."

"What we can now begin to consider is the socio-economic impact," said Emma Rendle, from the Marine and Coastal Policy research group (MarCoPol) at Plymouth University, "Can we quantify its benefits, and if so, do they outweigh the costs of construction?"

The survey will take place online, and will poll a variety of members of the local community to determine the effects the reef has had on them. Fishermen will be asked if their catches in Poole Bay have changed. Hoteliers will be asked if it has had an effect on their bookings.

For those without access to the internet, they will still be able to voice their opinions, as paper copies of the survey will be made available to them. A Cascade representative said, "As this is such an important issue to the community, it's important that they be included in the process."

The reef was opened in November 2009, past deadline and over budget. Created using 55 giant sand-filled bags placed 225m out to sea, the reef is supposed to enhance waves to improve conditions for surfers. Some however, have criticised the reef, saying it doesn't work properly.

However many traders in the area argue that the reef has regenerated the area. New developments have sprung up in the area to support tourism generated by the reef.

"Local tourism is a big economic boost to the town," a Cascade spokesperson said, "This survey will be very helpful in determining if the reef is pivotal to that, or even a detrimental factor." The council remains in talks with ASR Ltd, the firm which built the reef, over remedial works on the reef.
