Natural Lawn Maintenance Linked to Global Warming

Andyman Synthetic Turf Sunshine Coast offers ecofriendly alternatives

Sunshine Coast, QLD -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/29/2012 -- In light of an alarming study that links fertilizer use with dangerous greenhouse gases, Andyman Synthetic Turf Sunshine Coast announced today its safe alternative for natural lawn owners who wish to stop indirectly contributing to global warming by eliminating the use of fertilizer for lawn maintenance.

A U.S. study at the University of California, Berkley, found evidence that links increased fertilizer use over the past 50 years with a major greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming: nitrous oxide.

"Our study is the first to show empirically from the data at hand alone that the nitrogen isotope ratio in the atmosphere and how it has changed over time is a fingerprint of fertilizer use," said study leader Kristie Boering, a UC Berkeley professor of chemistry, earth and planetary science. Boering said she and her team hope the study encourages changes to fertilizer use habits as well as modifying agricultural operations that will help alleviate the release of nitrous oxide into the atmosphere.

Other studies have shown rising nitrous oxide levels by 20 percent since 1750 – from under 270 parts per billion (ppb) to more than 320 ppb. The study found increases in nitrous oxide from recent decades since 1940. Researchers say that nitrous oxide is the most harmful greenhouse gas after carbon dioxide and methane. Like carbon dioxide, it traps heat and contributes to the global warming epidemic.

Andyman Synthetic Turf Sunshine Coast's managing director, Andrew Sullivan, expressed his concern about the study and hoped it would alert natural lawn owners to the possible negative consequences of maintaining a natural lawn.

"Fertilizer can't be simply removed from everyday use. There's too much dependence on it. However, this study should serve as a serious wake-up call," Sullivan said. "Other alternatives should be developed for sustainable agriculture. Homeowners now find themselves with a great opportunity to help do their part in eliminating nitrous oxide contribution by switching from a natural lawn to synthetic turf."

Sullivan said that aside from helping reduce the levels of nitrous oxide, the benefits of synthetic turf far outweigh those of natural lawns. Fake grass looks the same as natural lawns, he said, except it offers low maintenance, drainage solutions and can endure almost any natural or artificial disturbances. And, it provides the same look and feel of natural turf.

"Within the past several years, artificial turf has come a long way," Sullivan said. "These days, people are really surprised when they take a closer look at synthetics. It's become a very plausible alternative that provides the same lush comforts of a lawn."

Andyman Synthetic Turf Sunshine Coast is an Australian owned and operated company and a leading artificial grass installer along the Sunshine Coast. Offering high-quality products and installation, the company has helped hundreds of families reduce their water consumption and bills through the installation of life-like synthetic turf.

Sunshine Coast Synthetic Turf Company Supports Racing NSW Turf Replacement Proposal

Replacement would save organization million in watering costs, keep animals safe

Sunshine Coast, QLD -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/04/2012 -- Recent proposals for replacing the natural grass at Racing NSW's tracks could lead to significant cost savings in the long run and has the full support of synthetic grass Sunshine Coast Company, Andyman Synthetic Turf.

The wettest summer on record for New South Wales has led to many problems around the region, including many flood warnings issued in Sydney and other coastal areas. The flooding issues have also impacted Racing NSW, with many races being postponed or canceled. The postponements come at a time when the horseracing organization has been struggling with keeping pace with public demand and rival organizations in other states and territories. In order to keep up, the organization has devoted much of its resources into prize money.

"That's come at a cost where our infrastructure now needs rebuilding, especially the stage which is the racecourse and the training facilities," Racing NSW CEO Peter V'landys recently said in an interview with the Illawarra Mercury newspaper.

These facts alone have led to several proposals for replacing the natural grass tracks with synthetic turf or blends, with the Illawarra Turf Club quickly expressing its support for the plan.

"Artificial grass has many features that could help the organization see significant cost savings," says Andyman Synthetic Turf Managing Director Andrew Sullivan. "Some may be skeptical of what the results could be, though our clients have all found that making the switch has brought superior lifestyle and budget improvements."

Among the concerns at Racing NSW tracks have been water drainage issues, which have been at the heart of many race closures. With professional layout and planning, that could be significantly improved upon by using synthetic grass Sunshine Coast resident Sullivan says. This alone could save the organization millions by not having to cancel races. In addition to better drainage, fake grass brings about many more advantages:

Natural grass requires lots of water to remain alive. The figures vary based on the humidity, heat and amount of sunlight a location receives. However, on average, a square foot of lawn requires roughly half a kilolitre of water annually. This amounts to more than 55,000 kilolitres of water per hectare. According to the Australian Water Association, Australians pay an average of $1 per kilolitre of mains water, which amounts to more than $55,000 per hectare of natural grass. With most tracks covering dozens of hectares with grass, the money saved could be in excess of $1 million per year.

By the same token, the amount of water saved would be in excess of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of kilolitres annually, per track. While in wet regions of the country that may not seem like a priority, other, drought-stricken areas of Australia would do well to have access to that water.

"We live in a community that's greater than just our local neighborhood," Sullivan said. "As a nation, we have a responsibility to our progeny to be caretakers of this land and its resources. Water is one such resource. Since we have the tools to help conserve both water and financial resources, it goes without saying we have a responsibility to use those tools. Racing NSW should look at the options before it and seriously consider the same synthetic turf Sunshine Coast residents have made use of for years."

Andyman Synthetic Turf serves the Sunshine Coast region and provides superb synthetic grass Sunshine Coast residents can be proud of. As the premier supplier of artificial grass Sunshine Coast, the company provides a wide selection of fake grass perfect for residential lawns, sports turf, golf grass, lawn bowling greens, tennis courts and more.

Andyman Synthetic Turf Pledges Support for Community Sports Organizations

Installing Synthetic Turf in Sunshine Coast May Help Lessen La Nina Damage

Sunshine Coast, Queensland -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/21/2012 -- Synthetic grass supplier Andyman Synthetic Turf announced today its support for community sports organizations that have been greatly impacted by the recent flooding and heavy rainfall due to La Nina. Though the weather phenomenon has brought some relief to drought-stricken areas, the company said, sports organizations are now faced with challenging conditions for maintaining natural turf fields.

The weather phenomenon La Nina had recently showed signs of dwindling in the past month. Unfortunately, heavy rainfall has remained throughout the eastern coast particularly along New South Wales and the Sunshine Coast area of Queensland. Earlier this year, thousands of residents from New South Wales were forced to evacuate and authorities expected 300mm to fall within a day's time.

"It is true that major flooding is starting to subside in parts of the country, however, the effects of La Nina are still felt, especially by athletic departments and sports organizations that must try to make use of unfit fields," Andyman Synthetic Turf Managing Director Andrew Sullivan said. "We encourage the use of artificial grass fields for their low maintenance requirements and superb drainage systems."

Heavy rainfall can seriously compromise playing conditions for natural turf mainly due to lack of proper drainage. When standing water collects on the field, it becomes unplayable. Andyman Synthetic Turf recommends fake grass in Sunshine Coast and other regions that are being hit hard by La Nina.

Many sports sectors have seen the benefits of fake grass with stadiums across the country implementing artificial turf. A healthy-looking field can be seen all year round with very little maintenance in times of drought or heavy rainfall.

"Long periods of drought have ruined many sporting fields until they are just about unplayable. Heavy usage and prolonged rainfall only add to the corrosion of the field," Sullivan said. "Artificial turf fields have a proven track record of durability and have proper drainage which can go a long way in preventing missed practices or competitions."

Sports teams and athletic departments that use, practice, and compete on fake grass can count on:

- Low maintenance. No need to mow, water, or worry about weeds. Forget about fertilization, topdressing, aerification, and seeding, too.

- Great drainage. Artificial turf drains better than real grass and can solve most drainage problems associated with damp areas. Over the years, constant innovations have improved drainage.

- Rugged endurance. Rubber and/or sand is scrubbed into the fake grass and is held firmly in place by connecting fibers, resisting wear and tear.

Andyman Synthetic Turf offers the best artificial grass Sunshine Coast athletic departments, sports teams, and residents can find, Sullivan said, and Andyman is dedicated to supporting community sports and activity programs during times of heavy rainfall and sporadic flooding.

Sunshine Coast's Artificial Turf Company Pledges Water Conservation Agenda Following Bureau of Meteorology Drought Statement

Andyman Synthetic Turf encourages Australians to be mindful of future droughts

Sunshine Coast, QLD -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/20/2012 -- Synthetic grass supplier Andyman Synthetic Turf announced today that it will continue to push for water conservation due to concerns over the most recent Bureau of Meteorology drought statement. Drought measures should take centre stage across Australia and not just in the most heavily stricken drought-prone areas, the synthetic turf company says.

Australian rainfall deficiencies still loom overhead in the medium to long-term range, despite the third-wettest year on record, according to a recent drought statement issued by the Bureau of Meteorology. The report revealed that many areas of country still experienced below-average rainfalls, though most areas received much-needed relief thanks to the weather phenomenon La Nina.

"Australians are very familiar with the dangers of drought and the devastation it can bring to communities if they don't plan ahead," Andyman Synthetic Turf Managing Director Andrew Sullivan said. "That's why it's vital for communities not to waste water and to enact policies that reduce wasteful uses of water, such as leaky plumbing or water-thirsty grasses."

Lawns are some of the most water-thirsty elements of any community. According to one study commissioned by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, an average lawn uses nearly 38,000 litres of water annually. Artificial grass is a water-friendly alternative that eliminates water-waste and significantly lowers a homeowner's water bill.

Already, the commercial and sports sectors have long recognized the potential water- and money-saving benefits of fake grass, with sports stadiums across the country installing artificial turf as a way to attain a year-round, healthy grass look without the need to maintain and water.

"Sporting organizations have really helped lead the way in responsible water use," Sullivan said. "Synthetic grass is a vital tool in conserving water, and it's one of many ways that residents and communities can help prepare for future warmer years, as the Bureau of Meteorology has warned."

For Sunshine Coast residents who want to take steps toward water conservation, Andyman Synthetic Turf offers these tips:

- Fix leaky pipes as soon as you're able, and make sure to turn the faucet off completely to avoid perpetual dripping.

- Replace water-hungry lawns with drought-tolerant landscaping, such as native plant species or with the latest in artificial grass.

- When brushing your teeth, turn the water off until you're ready to rinse.

- Standing in the shower during morning may be a pleasant way to wake-up, but it's very wasteful. Shorten your shower time, and install shower heads that are more efficient.

- Consider purchasing appliances that use less water. For example, homeowners could save more than 24,000 litres of water annually by switching to a five-star rated washing machine.

If It's High Quality Artificial Grass You Need, Look No Further Than Andyman Synthetic Turf

Sunshine Coast’s Andyman Synthetic Turf Offers the Best Quality Synthetic Turf in Australia

Sunshine Coast, QLD -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/20/2012 -- Andyman Synthetic Turf, Australia's premier artificial grass provider, has carved a niche for itself as a provider of superior quality artificial grass for sports, turf, golf, tennis court, and domestic purposes.

The backyard is a place where innumerable people lounge around or spend most of their leisure time in order to unwind. Therefore, it is important for a home to have a lush and green lawn for the family to spend time in. Andyman Synthetic Turf offers high quality fake grass lawns that not only look and feel like real grass, but also offer several distinct advantages over natural grass, such as low maintenance and a lesser likelihood of allergies. Backyard and home garden upkeep has now become a far bearable chore thanks to artificial turfs.

Artificial grass was developed in the first half of the 20th century and has evolved from Chemgrass to Astroturf, and finally, the high quality artificial grass offered by Andyman Synthetic Turf. The company offers only the best artificial turfs that have a gamut of advantages over their natural counterparts. Firstly, fake grass completely does away with the need to oversee its growth, unlike natural grass.

Artificial turfs can also positively overhaul the look and feel of a home once it is installed. Secondly, there is no need to mow the lawn to maintain the look of the fake grass. Once installed, an artificial lawn would remain exactly how it is regardless of the weather and time.

Another benefit of the turfs offered by Andyman Synthetic Turf is that they are extremely easy to clean. They are porous enough to allow water to be thoroughly drained instead of collecting on the lawn surface. This makes it convenient to hose down and wash away any dirt, debris, or pet litter that is accumulated on the fake grass.

The above benefits make Andyman Synthetic Turf a great choice for those who desire a low-maintenance solution for their backyard or office.

The company also offers installation services for both homes and commercial establishments, including sports stadiums. To top it all, all turfs provided by Andyman Synthetic Turf are backed by a 7-year manufacturer's warranty and are also safe for children to play on.
