Elinext Increases Commitment to Mobile Augmented Reality Development

A part of Elinext Group – Eligraphics Studio – announces greater emphasis on augmented reality technologies in mobile game development.

Minsk, Belarus -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/28/2012 -- Eligraphics Studio, a producer of high quality stereoscopic 3D films as well as mobile and interactive 5D games, organized a meeting devoted to the opportunities for augmented reality developers. The session attendees included core IT specialists of Elinext Group, an alliance of custom software development companies.

Nowadays, many programmers and businesses firmly believe that augmented reality (AR) will have a bright future, since AR technology is going to set new standards in our everyday lives. The host of the presentation Eugene Filipkov, Senior Game Devloper at Eligraphics Studio, elaborated on the main aspects of this technology, including libraries and frameworks, as well as on the use of AR in games with a few examples.

"From my point of view, the most popular frameworks include OpenCV, Vuforia and String. I personally like the flexibility of OpenCV. It is free and cross-platform compatible. Qualcomm's Vuforia is a very powerful tool either. It supports iOS, Android and Unity 3D, though has a closed source code," said Filipkov.

Augmented reality techniques are much about gamification that makes the user experience more entertaining, engaging and immersive. This essentially means application of game mechanics to real-world objects that aren't typically considered to be interactive. It is achieved by the recognition of markers (for example, printable images or pictures) that are captured through the camera lens on a smartphone, like iPhone and Android or a tablet, like iPad. The data is further interpreted by installed on the mobile device software to create 3D images overlaid on the real-world environment depicted on the mobile device.

Technically, a game object appears in the 3D world on the screen due to the calculation of two matrices: projection matrix (pointed to the placement of marker) and model view matrix (pointed to the dimensions of the game object needed to be embedded). As vivid examples of AR games, Filipkov mentioned Shadow Cities, AR.Rescue and ARDefender.

The applicable areas of AR are very wide. Besides games and entertainment, the key sectors embracing augmented reality in the recent years include advertising, education, retail, publishing, healthcare and military training (simulators).

"In the coming years AR technologies will translate into huge opportunities for developers, but we have to wait a bit for smartphones' hardware to gain more computing power. I am constantly tracking the latest advancements in AR, and I feel confident about our company's skills in mobile augmented reality development projects," pointed out Sergey Morozov, 3D & Games Development Director.

"The cooperation with Parrot, a globally recognized leader in wireless devices for mobile phones, and our assistance in software development for its AR.Drone flying helicopter as well as other AR projects have greatly contributed to the reputation of Elinext as a reliable and competent partner," added at the end Maxim Galinouski, Director of Mobile Development Department.

Elinext Supports HTML5 for Web, Mobile and TV App Development

Elinext Group an alliance of software, web, mobile and TV app development companies recognizes great prospects for HTML5.

Minsk, Belarus -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/21/2012 -- Considering the growing demand for HTML5, Elinext IT-Directors and Senior Developers have organized a meeting to increase the company's involvement with this technology. HTML5 is one of the most talked-about IT-trends today, and many experts have reached a consensus that it is going to be a huge hit in the near future.

So why using HTML5? Although it is still a work in progress that will be finalized during the coming years, HTML5 is already quite mature in terms of the set of tags and application programming interfaces (APIs).

Practice shows that users in many cases are reluctant to install extra players or plug-ins. HTML5 is exactly directed at unification and simplification. "HTML5 is expected to alter the way websites used to work previously. Developers can create with it incredibly catching interactive pages," said the speaker Gennady Sergeenko, Elinext Project Manager and certified HTML5 professional.

A distinctive advantage of using HTML5 is its support of all audio and video media elements. Thus, you do not need a Flash player or any other third party plug-in to effectively stream and access audio and video content. The respective and tags are easy to use and work smoothly on various platforms. HTML5 playback can even replace Flash or Silverlight in some years.

HTML5 implies improved structure of websites. This can result in better scanning by search engines and higher page ranks, since the new semantic code is more SEO-friendly. The set of APIs helps reduce the size and complexity of the code and avoid exterior libraries. The application interfaces include the canvas element for immediate 2D and 3D drawings; drag-and-drop; web workers; web storage; cross-document messaging; file API. HTML5 can be used as a programming language for different frameworks, technologies and even operation systems. Furthermore, HTML5 pushes the boundaries of online games, and the browser game market can benefit greatly from it.

HTML5 makes it easier, faster and more economical to create websites, which are fully functional on mobile screens. "HTML5 has excellent support for mobile devices, which is one of our core competences. Elinext has already completed many projects with native iPhone apps, Android apps, Windows Phone apps and BlackBerry apps," said Elinext CTO Vladimir Antonovich. Overall, the applicable areas of HTML5 include websites and their mobile versions, geolocation applications, TV apps, mobile apps, social networking, CMS, games.
