This legislation would be aimed directly at carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions and their role in global warming.

In the coming months and years, either a "Cap and Trade" system or a straight up carbon tax will be likely be passed by U.S. legistators. The moderates in Congress and most of the heavy industrial world, faced with the reality of some type of legislation, are rallying behind a carbon tax for its simplicity and for the fact that the cost can be passed along to the consumer much more efficiently and without the distortion and potential fraud of a cap and trade system.

The U.S. House of Representatives approved legislation on June 26 that would place caps on U.S. greenhouse gas emissions and sets nationals standard for the production of renewable electricity by 2020. The American Clean Energy and Security Act (H.R. 2454) would cut U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 17% by 2020, from 2005 levels, and by 83% by 2050.

While much of the focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions will be on the development of next generation renewable energy resources, natural gas can and will play a significant role in this evolving story. Natural gas per BTU of energy is much cleaner than oil or coal, the two primary fossil fuel alternatives, and thanks to new drilling technologies that are unlocking substantial amounts of natural gas from shale rocks, the nation's estimated natural gas reserves have surged by 35 percent according to new studies.

So, if a carbon tax or a Cap and Trade system is ultimately put into place by U.S. legislators, natural gas will likely be a huge beneficiary. Natural gas could emerge as a critical transition fuel that could help to battle global warming. For a given amount of heat energy, burning gas produces about half as much carbon dioxide, the main cause of global warming, as burning coal.

Industrial demand accounts for about 30 percent of natural gas consumption annually in the U.S. Thus, economic health of US industry directly influences natural gas prices in a significant way. During the past year, as world economies have struggled through the worst recession in the last 80 years, natural gas prices have been hovering near six year lows in the range of $3.50 per MMBtu. Domestic production has remained strong and recent gas producer's quarterly earnings indicate that economic activity is beginning to recover as industrial demand starts to pick back up. This should strengthen natural gas prices in the short term, and in the longer term the move toward cleaner energy solutions should put natural gas squarely in the middle between dirty fossil fuels and clean renewable energy solutions.

Natural gas promises to be used as a transitional fuel to alternative to renewable energies like solar, wind and geothermal. Even influential oil-tycoon T Boone Pickens has proposed, and spent a considerable portion of his wealth, promoting the idea of natural gas powered vehicles.

Once fuel cell powered vehicles become practical, within 10 years with government encouragement /subsidy, natural gas is likely to be among the first fuels used by such vehicles. This reality will be encouraged if Pickens is successful in getting existing fuel stations in North America to add natural gas to their product offerings at the pump. Time will tell if that infrastructure will get built into our national transportation fuel system and if you will be able to buy and utilize natural gas powered vehicles. Natural Gas is already in use in many public transportation systems and municipal fleets.

While pure hydrogen vehicles may be a better environmental option (since the byproduct of the chemical reaction is pure water), the manufacture, storage and distribution of highly combustible hydrogen has many science, engineering and production problems that have yet to be solved. So keep a close eye on natural gas prices for possibly higher prices in the near-term as well as the longer-term. As the economy rebounds we think that natural gas prices will rise as industrial consumption picks back up and in the longer term we think that natural gas will be a key ingredient in the mix to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Prosper, TX -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/28/2009 -- After pushing past key upper resistance levels in the major U.S market indexes last week, investors it seems for now are pausing a moment to figure out what to do from here.

The S&P 500, an index used by most traders to gauge general market strength, has rallied nearly ten percent in the month of July alone. With most of the popular names having reported slightly better than expected quarterly earnings already, some normalcy could come back into stocks as we head into the seasonally dull month of August.

The pause could lead to a small correction in the markets which are now trading near overbought conditions, but traders aren't expecting the dramatic pull back most had been expecting during this super rally of nearly forty-five percent off the lows set back in March. The S&P fear gauge known as the VIX, which during the deepest part of the meltdown was trading above 60.00 has leveled off significantly trading back near 24.00, suggesting moves of around fourteen S&P intra day points, not the major intra day swings we have seen most of the year of forty to fifty points.

The cost to protect large stock positions with options has come down considerably also signaling that most large firms aren't expecting a major pullback anytime soon. Although fear has come off the table, it's still a traders market. Buy and hold has all but disappeared from the play book for now.

Stock Futures are pointing to a lower open, so look for economic data out this morning to tell the markets direction the rest of the day. Retail, housing, and consumer data is on tap for Tuesday. Also, watch the previous resistance level on the S&P 500 index of 965 it is now a support level.

Prosper, TX -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/23/2009 -- The major U.S. indexes are all trading at or near their highs for the year. The Dow Jones is sitting just under 9000 with the S&P 500 above 950 and the NASDAQ above 1900, levels not seen since the collapse of the financial markets in October of 2008.

The equities market is at a critical point with significant earnings reports still to come. Money managers remain under invested and cautious traders aren't willing to hold positions very long. The market will be looking for top line growth from further earnings reports if it is to continue this furious rally which has seen a forty percent rise since the lows in March. A close over 965 on the S&P could signal a further technical rise in stocks to the 1020 level, or a sell off if it can't hold 950.

June 2 - USA Superior Reports First Quarter 2008 Results

USA Superior Energy Holdings, Inc. (OTCBB: USSUE), a Houston-based energy company focused on acquiring, owning, operating and applying enhanced oil recovery ("EOR") techniques to existing shallow fields of oil and gas that have been idle or marginally producing, is reporting its operating results for the quarter ended March 31, 2008 and its filing of an amended Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q/A for the three months ended March 31, 2008.

For the quarter ended March 31, 2008, the Company's net loss decreased to $516,740, compared to the same quarter 2007 net loss of $3,379,474. The major components of the first quarter 2008 loss were general and administrative expenses of $463,751 including stock based compensation of $207,436. Stock based compensation in the first quarter of 2008 included warrants issued to the Company's financial consultant and shares issued to a key employee. This compares to general and administrative expenses of $3,375,085 including stock based compensation of $3,020,000 in the quarter ended March 31, 2007 related to the reverse merger and compensation of employees and consultants in the Quarter Ended March 31, 2007.

Revenues for the quarter ended March 31, 2008 increased to $115,563 from $15,443 in the same period of 2007. This increase reflects a full quarter of operations of the Bateman Project which was acquired at the comparable quarter's end in 2007. Sales volume for the first quarter 2008 was a net 1,322 barrels, which was a substantial increase over third quarter and fourth quarter volume of 727 barrels and 139 barrels, respectively. This increase represents the successful results of workover and treatment operations in the Bateman Field performed during the first quarter of 2008. The Company anticipates a further sales volume increase for the second quarter of 2008 as sales volume has exceeded a net 1,183 barrels in the month of May 2008. The Company realized an average price of $91.63 per barrel during the quarter ended March 31, 2008.
