Gina Rubel Wins Public Relations Society of America DeAnn White Achievement Award

Doylestown, PA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 12/11/2007 -- The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Philadelphia Chapter awarded Gina Rubel, president of Furia Rubel Communications, the 2007 DeAnn White Achievement Award for Community Spirit, at the Annual Pepperpots on December 6, 2007. The award honors the memory of Philadelphia journalist and PR professional DeAnn White, whose life was cut short in the tragic Pier 34 collapse in 2000.

For more than two decades, Rubel has devoted time to helping nonprofits tell their stories. As the owner of Furia Rubel in Doylestown, Pa., she encourages all staff to volunteer time during the workday. Rubel utilizes her public relations expertise in the field of community service and volunteerism every day. That is her definition of success. She is often overheard saying, "If I were independently wealthy, I'd donate all my time to helping nonprofits raise awareness and money to make this world a better place." As a policy, the firm maintains three nonprofit pro bono accounts per year.

"We value this recognition from peers in our industry," said Rubel. "This honor is a true testament to how much local public relations professionals value philanthropy and volunteerism. This is an award in memory of a fallen hero, DeAnn White, and of our industry's shared commitment to giving back."

Since its inception, Furia Rubel has assisted Twilight Wish Foundation with media relations. As a startup wish-granting foundation for seniors across the U.S., Furia Rubel landed media coverage for it during the first year alone in Family Circle, which led to the launch of five additional chapters. Furia Rubel also provides pro bono services to Greensgrow Farm, an inner-city urban organic farm in North Philadelphia, and to Deep Run Mennonite Church East in Perkasie, Pa. The firm provides substantially discounted services to the Hepatitis B Foundation, the National Kidney Foundation Delaware Valley Chapter, and the Bucks County Covered Bridges Festival. All told, Rubel and her staff donated more than 300 hours of service to community and nonprofit organizations in 2006 and expect to exceed 500 hours in 2007.

Leah Rice, account manager at Furia Rubel, said, "In addition to running a formidable business, Gina selflessly dedicates time and talent to helping nonprofits, community groups, and her associates every day. She is an inspiration and a role model to many and an asset to our clients and community. I am proud to call her a colleague and friend."

While continuing to build her agency, Gina finds time to devote her talents to mentoring many young businesswomen and -men. To that end, she has created a corporate internship and outplacement program that assists students on their journeys to promising careers. A founding member of the Women's Business Forum, which unites, inspires, and mentors women entrepreneurs who have limited resources, Gina currently serves as president. She drafted the Forum's first By-Laws, oversaw Long-Range Planning, handled the Forum's social programming for five years, and has served as one of its public relations experts for four years. Through the Forum, Gina has had the opportunity to mentor and consult with women business owners extensively.

Celebrity TV Chef Daisy Maria Martinez Joins Top Local Chefs at Oxford Valley Mall For Simon Super Chefs Live!

Free day-long food extravaganza features cooking demonstrations, chef cook-off and more on May 19

Langhorne, PA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/08/2007 -- Philadelphia area food-lovers are invited to experience the joy of cooking at Simon Super Chefs Live!, a day-long food extravaganza, as popular TV Chef Daisy Martinez shares the secrets of her delicious cooking and joins top local chefs on the kitchen-stage. The fun gets underway 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007 and is free to everyone who loves to cook – or eat.

Daisy Maria Martinez was born to mainland Puerto Rican parents in Brooklyn, New York, where she lived at her grandmother's house until she was almost five years old. Growing up in the household of her abuela inspired Daisy, even as a young girl, to the joys that could be unraveled in the kitchen. Before committing herself to the art of cooking, Daisy took pleasure in other arts, including acting and modeling. After her legs and feet tired of being photographed, on a dare, she began acting: American commercials include Ford cars and Newport cigarettes, and Spanish-language commercials include McDonald's and AT&T. Daisy has also appeared in numerous movies including "Carlito's Way" and "Scent of a Woman".

In 1998, Daisy matriculated at the French Culinary Institute, where she won first prize for her final project, "The Passionate Palate". In addition, Daisy manages a small catering business, "The Passionate Palate," named for her cooking school days and is also the host of "Daisy Cooks," which airs on Philadelphia affiliate PBS Station WHYY.

The show, emceed by Emmy award winning TV Host Bill Boggs, will include live cooking performances and demonstrations, a seminar on entertaining, food and beverage sampling, audience participation, autograph signings and an exciting round-robin local chef cook-off.

Top local chefs joining celebrity Chef Daisy Martinez at Simon Super Chefs Live! include Cary Neff of Samson Street Oyster House, Walter Staib of City Tavern and Patrice Rames of Bistro Saint Tropez – from three of Philadelphia's most prominent restaurants. In addition to chef demonstrations, the local chefs will face off in a crowd-pleasing round-robin Simon Super Chefs Live! cook-off.
Bucks County Covered Bridges Festival Exclusive Red-Tie Fundraising Event

The first annual Bucks County Covered Bridges Festival will take place on June 9 and 10 at Tinicum Park in Erwinna, Pa.

Doylestown, PA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/11/2007 -- Covered bridges are a charming reminder of a simpler time. Also called "kissing bridges" because they afforded shade from summer's heat and perhaps a moment to steal a furtive kiss, 36 of these unique crossings once dotted Bucks County. Unfortunately, the majority of Bucks County's covered bridges have since fallen victim to neglect, vandalism and other hazards. This year, county residents and visitors will gather for a weekend to celebrate these symbols of the quiet, rural life for which Bucks County is known.

The first annual Bucks County Covered Bridges Festival will take place on June 9 and 10 at Tinicum Park in Erwinna, Pa. The weekend will kick off with a red-tie fundraising dinner on Friday, June 8. Those who attend the event will be treated to fine dining inside the South Perkasie Covered Bridge, which was constructed in 1832. The funds raised through the red-tie affair will benefit the Perkasie Historical Society, which in 1958 rescued the South Perkasie Covered Bridge from condemnation. All are welcome to attend this exclusive event; tickets are available in limited supply and must be purchased prior to the June 8 event.

"The gala will be a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dine inside a historical landmark," Bucks County Covered Bridges Festival Founder Wayne Siefert stated. "The evening will feature an elegant meal inside this authentic covered bridge, live classical music and an opportunity to enjoy the company of an amazing group of people. The fine cuisine, tasteful music and lively conversation will create an unparalleled evening for our guests."

The Covered Bridge Festival weekend events will feature guided walking and trolley tours of area covered bridges and many additional events for the whole family. Live entertainment, pony and hot-air balloon rides, vendors offering handmade arts and crafts and a petting zoo are just some of the attractions that thousands of festival goers will enjoy. Proceeds will benefit Bucks County covered bridge preservation and awareness efforts.

For further information please visit www.buckscountycoveredbridgesfestival.org. Dinner tickets and discounted festival tickets are available in advance via the festival's Web site. Tickets and additional information may also be obtained by calling 215.822.0552 or e-mailing info@buckscountycoveredbridgesfestival.org.

Lawsuit Filed on Behalf of 8-year-old Girl Who Lost Right Hand in Day Camp Bus Accident

Philadelphia, PA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/27/2006 -- As nearly 60 people – most of them children – from the Norris Square Day Camp in Philadelphia boarded a bus after a field trip to the Baltimore Aquarium less than two weeks ago, they never imagined that the normally easy drive would become a terrifying ordeal in which one little girl, 8-year-old Deneik Brownlee, would lose her hand.

It happened at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5: the school bus in which the children were riding was traveling northbound on I-95 near Aberdeen, Md., when it collided with the cab of a tractor-trailer. The bus careened across the highway and into the median. Its 18-year-old driver was unable to regain control, and the bus re-crossed two lanes of traffic before it turned over on its left side and skidded to a halt on the shoulder of the interstate.

Rescue crews transported children from the chaotic aftermath of the crash to nearby hospitals. Among those children were 8-year-old Deneik Brownlee and her 9-year-old sister, Desha Brownlee. The girls' mother, Makeba Fitzgerald, was also present that day.

Desha later told reporters that her sister was thrown out of a window during the accident. Tragically, Deneik's right hand was severed as a result of being pinned beneath the overturned bus frame. Due to the severity of her injuries, which also included multiple fractures to her right elbow, severe trauma to her shoulders and left arm and hand, and emotional distress, Deneik was airlifted to Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore and has since been transferred to an undisclosed hospital where she still remains.

A complaint was filed yesterday (July 18, 2006) in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas by Bernard W. Smalley, Sr., Mark J. LeWinter and Michael L. Barbiero of Anapol Schwartz Weiss Cohan Feldman & Smalley, P.C., and co-counsel Donald Chisholm, II and Anthony Jackson.

According to attorney Smalley, the complaint was filed on behalf of Ms. Fitzgerald and her daughters. Both girls sustained serious and permanent injuries in the violent collision. The complaint also alleges that the bus's 18-year-old driver, defendant Kevin Talbert, Jr., was reckless and grossly negligent in that he was operating the bus at a dangerous speed; failed to keep a reasonable watch for other vehicles on the road; and was talking on a cellular phone while driving.

In a negligence claim against Talbert's employer, the Yellowbird Bus Company, Inc., of Philadelphia, the family has also asserted that the bus company knowingly and illegally entrusted the 57 children's lives to a driver who, under federal law, was incapable of safely undertaking interstate travel. This is because federal law dictates that bus drivers crossing state lines must be at least 21 years of age.

In addition to negligence and punitive damages claims against Talbert and Yellowbird, the family has filed negligence and punitive damages claims against 41-year-old tractor-trailer driver Michael Schultz of Maryland and his Baltimore-based employer, Cowan Systems, Inc.

Mr. Bernie Smalley may be reached for comment by calling 215-735-3864 (office), 215-285-9146 (cell). He may also be reached via e-mail at bsmalley@anapolschwartz.com or via fax at 215-875-7704. Denise Stovell (202) 588-9875 or denise@stovellmarketingpr.com
Montgomeryville, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/2/2006 -- DM Partners launched an online postage estimator to ease customer transition with postage rate hikes that took effect on January 8, 2006. The simple-to-use estimator provides a range of postage costs based on mailing type, sorting options, letter, non-letter and parcel specs, number of pieces and weight. It takes less than one minute for the user to obtain a projected postage range for their direct mail campaigns.

As of January, 8th 2006, the single-piece rate for First-Class mail increased from 37 cents to 39 cents, Basic Standard Class increased from .268 to .282, and the postcard rate increased by one cent to 24 cents. For volume discount mailers this increase has a significant impact on how marketers manage their direct mail budgets. Other selected rate changes are being felt on priority mail and express mail.

Margaret Lawrence Denton, Esquire, president and chief operating officer of DM Partners said, "The online postage estimator is easy to use, quick and less complicated than other postage calculation products. It allows companies to quickly estimate the cost of postage at any stage of a direct mail campaign; thus allowing them to make more strategic decisions regarding size, postal class and sorting options, weight, type of creative and number of pieces mailed per campaign." The postage estimator also includes a glossary of direct mail terms for the less experienced direct marketer.

The DM Partners Postage Estimator is available at www.dm-partners.com. It is as easy as clicking on the Postage Estimator button and entering your e-mail address as your password then inputting basic mail specifications. After a few steps, the user receives the postal rate range. Users should keep in mind that the actual postage costs will be based on the saturation of the mailing distribution since higher discounts are available for mail that drops in a higher concentration of zip codes. Direct marketers also incur postage surcharges for irregular sizes and shapes of mailings.

DM Partners (http://www.dm-partners.com) provides database systems for direct marketing campaigns, produces targeted mailing pieces for precise lead generation and crucial response fulfillment, and manages back end support and analysis for customers' data driven direct marketing programs. Celebrating their 10th anniversary this month, a three-person operation has evolved into a 25-person full-service database management and letter shop with offices in Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Clients include direct users such as Rodale Press, First Trust Bank, and Mutual of Omaha and producers such as direct marketing advertising agencies and printers throughout the United States.
