Smartphone Growth in India Identifies 48 Percent of Owners Under 25 Years Old, Cheap International Calls Provider Firstnumber Comments

Cheap international calls provider Firstnumber comments on the recent study conducted by Nielsen Informate Mobile Insights.

Edinburgh, UK -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/15/2013 -- A recent study conducted by Nielsen Informate Mobile Insights polled more than 10,000 Indian smartphone users. Which has identified some very interesting statistics. For example, there are roughly 900 million mobile phones currently being used in India. 40 million of those are smartphones.

Although there has been a dramatic growth among those striving to remain connected and seeking new ways to remain connected to social networking sites. Only 50 percent of those who own a smartphone have mobile internet connectivity.

The most startling statistic that surprised cheap international calls provider Firstnumber, was the revelation that 48 percent of the 40 million smartphone owners are under the age of 25 years old.

The study explained the cause of the exponential growth was down to "decreasing device and data costs, coupled with a wide range of features that today's smartphones offer, readily encourage consumers to trade in their traditional cell phones for handsets with much more functionality."

A spokesperson from Firstnumber comments:

"It's interesting whenever a study is released regarding other countries mobile habits. Although we find the key figures surprising, its even more interesting when reviewing the declared smartphone usage.

Similar to the UK, text communication via smartphone in India is in decline. Which resulted in voice calls and texting accounting for 25 percent of smartphone usage. With chat and instant messaging apps being a major use amongst smartphone users."

As a company who values consumers needs, Firstnumber provides cheap calls to India.
Report Reveals How Consumers Use Mobile Phones Around the World, Cheap International Calls Provider Firstnumber Comments

Cheap international calls provider comments on a recent report that looks into the mobile consumer behaviour and device preference and usage in 10 different countries.

Edinburgh, UK -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/14/2013 -- A new report, published by the research company Nielsen, entitled "The Mobile Consumer: A Global Snapshot". Looks into the mobile consumer behaviour and device preference and usage in 10 different countries. The countries examined were Australia, Brazil, China, India, Italy, Russia, South Korea, Turkey, United Kingdom and the U.S.

The report interestingly sets out to identify how each different region engages with mobile devices. Identifying that although the popularity of mobile phones has become equal around the world, Nielsen confirms that "usage is significantly different by market and demographic groups".

A spokesperson from cheap international calls provider Firstnumber comments:

"Getting insight into mobile consumer behaviour and usage from many countries around the world is very interesting. It's possible to have tunnel vision, and believe we all have similar needs and wants when it comes to owning a mobile phone.

But, it becomes very apparent that regardless of the amount of mobile users in each country, they all have different needs, which can often be dictated by cultural differences."

A clear pattern amongst developed markets show that wherever there is widespread 3G and 4G access, smartphone owners become the majority. Also, device preference is changing with the penetration of smartphones being led by "a new generation of young adults eager to embrace smartphone technology", Nielsen states.

For example, smartphone adoption rates have significantly outnumbered the amount of feature phone users in Australia, Italy, China, the U.S., South Korea and the United Kingdom. Whilst, the feature phone is still has widespread use in India, Turkey, Russia and Brazil.

Looking at specific mobile usage, it was identified that smartphone owners gravitate towards games and social networks. But, the level of activity changed depending on the market.

GetLenses in Fight with Focus Dailies Manufacturer

Online retailer asda-contactlenses.co.uk has taken the enormous step to stop selling Focus Dailies, and any of this manufacturer’s products, online.

London, UK -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/11/2013 -- In the UK, 10% of those wearing contact lenses purchase them online as it's easier (takes one minute to order), more convenient and nearly always cheaper than buying on the high street.

Considering these factors, Asda online have taken the remarkable step to delist all Ciba products of which Focus Dailies are the most popular.

The decision becomes even more significant when you get to know that Focus Dailies Contact Lenses and other products produced by this manufacturer make up a 35% share of the branded contact lens market.

But Asda aren't alone in taking this decision. Other online retailers are also looking at the option of delisting Ciba products due to the 20% price increase the company are now trying to apply to all online sales.

Ashley Mealor from www.Getlenses.co.uk said these price rises are doing three things in the market:

1. Online players are looking to delist some of these products as consumers just don't want to be paying more for them.

2. It's driving consumers to buy from overseas players like Lensway which offer no option to get their prescription checked. This is a legal requirement for UK-based contact lens retailers.

3. We've also seen customers actively switch away from this nine year old product to newer products such as Bausch and Lomb Soflens which many opticians agree is a much better contact lens.

Are Ciba on their way to becoming the next HMV? This is, inevitably, a question that online retailers are asking. Online consumers want the power to choose how they buy contact lenses, and shouldn't be faced with such a remarkable price hike.

GetLenses are a specialist contact lens retailer which sells exclusively online.
