Dr. Stone Explains the Reasoning Behind Separate Bedrooms

Irvine, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/23/2016 -- Recent news reports reveal that more and more couples are sleeping in separate bedrooms for a variety of reasons. Most often this is due to one of the bedmates snoring so loudly that the other person prefers to sleep in a separate bed in a separate bedroom.

More than a quarter of U.S. couples -- 26 percent -- report sleeping more soundly when they're alone in a bed, according to a survey from the Better Sleep Council. Housing developers report that somewhere between 15 and 20 percent of their customers show interest in the "dual master bedroom concept".

Dr. Stone comments on the effects of snoring, "Snoring affects 30% of people in America, while second-hand snoring–being kept up or having your rest disturbed by a snoring partner, affects about 73% of people who sleep with someone who snores. Your entire night is spent trying to get enough oxygen to keep you alive. That doesn't sound like a rejuvenation of the mind and body, but rather like a bad dream," remarks Dr. Frank Stone.

"Although snoring seems physically harmless, it may be a red flag for a much more serious and sometimes fatal condition called obstructive sleep apnea. This happens when the air passage deflates, blocking airflow into the lungs. The harder one tries to breathe, the tighter the air passage seals." This airway blockage persists until the brain partly wakes up the person.
The exhausting sleep apnea cycle starts out by a person falling asleep, the jaw relaxing and the air passage collapsing. When the brain struggles to rouse itself before suffocation, the person unconsciously awakens with a gasp and then falls back to sleep only to start the cycle again.

There are a number of common sense reasons for getting a good night's sleep; the consequences of not getting seven or eight hours of restful sleep may cause:

- Being slow to react to things
- Getting angry quickly
- Overeating
- Overspending
- Looking haggard
- Feeling just downright crappy

Dr. Stone Offers an Oral Appliance for Sleep Apnea as an Alternative to CPAP Mask

Irvine, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/11/2016 -- Although snoring seems harmless, it may be a red flag for a much more serious and sometimes fatal condition called Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). This happens when the air passage deflates, blocking airflow into the lungs. The harder one tries to breathe, the tighter the air passage seals.

The exhausting sleep apnea cycle starts out by falling asleep, the jaw relaxing and the air passage collapsing. Then the brain struggles to rouse itself before suffocation, the person unconsciously awakens with a gasp and then falls back to sleep only to start the cycle again.

"What has been shown to be effective at silencing snoring and preventing OSA, is a lightweight dental device worn by the snorer like a mouthguard that I mold, and then send to Glidewell Laboratories for a final fit," explains Dr. Stone. The snore-stopping appliance helps the snorer keep the lower jaw positioned slightly forward, preventing the airway from closing and ending the vibration of the soft tissues.

Dr. Frank Stone will conduct an Airway Analysis to see what is causing the OSA. The anatomic structure and airway level, which are most commonly involved in obstruction, are the soft palate and the oropharynx (the part of the throat at the back of the mouth). The soft palate alone is the most common obstructed structure in mild OSA and the combination of the soft palate and the tongue base is more frequent in severe OSA.

Dr. Stone will then send the patient home with a Home Sleep Test with an ARES™ measuring device. This device is worn on the forehead and stores up to three nights of nocturnal data.

ARES™ Screener measures:
- Blood oxygen saturation
- Pulse rate
- Airflow snoring levels
- Head movement and head position

The results will allow Dr. Stone to fit the oral appliance accurately to the snorer's mouth.

"Everyone knows about the ugly results of second-hand smoke, but have you seen the news about how bad second-hand snoring can be to you?" asks Dr. Stone. Given that snorers can produce nearly 80 decibels of sound, a bed partners' noisy rumbles are detrimental to the snorer and the bedmate.

SoproCARE Integral in Dr. Stone's Practice

Irvine, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/05/2015 -- Dentists sometimes find themselves faced with the challenge of trying to explain tooth problems to their patients without being able to show them precisely where the trouble areas were or how to treat them. At Dr. Stone's office, patients have the privilege of being able to observe these trouble areas for themselves by making use of the digital radiography technology available.

The SoproCARE camera is Dr. Stone's choice for digital radiography. This award-winning intraoral camera operates in three different modes to provide intraoral imaging, caries (cavities) detection and gingival inflammation detection.

1. The Perio mode shows the oldest and newest plaque and gum inflammations.
2. The Cario mode detects cavities.
3. The Daylight mode with Macrovision provides magnification up to 110 times—allowing Dr. Stone to watch for the stability and growth of tiny fractures.

Working within a system that achieves optimal patient communication, the SoproCARE assesses the health of the tooth's hard and soft tissue. It illuminates dental tissue with light and the exposed tissue absorbs the energy, reflecting it in fluorescent form. This reflection creates a clear, visible representation of the tooth's condition, which is invisible under normal light.

About SoproCARE
SoproCARE is a pioneer in the market for gingival inflammation detection. A non-destructive periodontal disease, the most common form of gingivitis is plaque-induced gingivitis, caused by plaque on tooth surfaces. Dr. Frank Stone emphasizes, "Gingivitis can be reversed with good oral hygiene. In the absence of treatment, or if not controlled, gingivitis can progress to periodontal disease. The inflammation results in tissue destruction which can ultimately lead to tooth loss."

The SoproCARE system enables a dentist or dental professional to explain to the patient what procedures need to be done and why the treatment being prescribed is necessary.

"Instant gratification," says Dr. Stone before elaborating, "If I notice a crack in the patient's tooth, the intraoral camera can be used to show it to them immediately and to educate them about needed treatment."

Dr. Stone has more than forty years of experience in restorative and esthetic dentistry for adults. He is a multiple-time international American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Smile Gallery award winner.
Dr. Stone Minimizes Radiation Exposure by Integrating New Digital Equipment

Irvine, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/03/2015 -- Dr. Frank Stone has recently implemented digital radiograph technology that provides both single intraoral as well as panoramic full head images. This means he is now able to diagnose and explain tooth problems to his patients more easily. It is a huge leap from the days of photographic film x-rays. While the latter can be compared to an old black-and-white still on a twelve-inch round screen TV, digital x-rays can be likened to a widescreen high-definition image.

Dr. Stone recalls how the large piece of cardboard that was used to hold the film would make some of his patients choke, while the sharp edges hurt their gums. He is also reminded of the 5-15 minute process required to develop the x-ray film in chemicals that were later disposed—polluting the water cycle. Thankfully, that antiquated method of x-rays has now been replaced by digital radiography at progressive practices like Stone Smiles.

The Dexis Module is Dr. Stone's preferred digital x-ray system. This system enables him to easily explain to his patients their dental situations. Neither doctor nor patient has to wait to view x-rays as they are processed in less than five seconds. "It's instant gratification," declares Dr. Stone before explaining, "If I notice a crack in my patient's tooth, for example, our digital intraoral camera is used to augment the digital x-ray image. We can now immediately point it out to them and educate them on necessary procedures, along with the risk and benefit of recommended treatment." Furthermore, digital x-rays expose patients and staff to 90% less radiation than standard film-type x-rays and are considerably more precise as compared to photographic film x-rays.

Dr. Stone Now Using Botox for Therapeutic Facial Esthetics and Headache Pain Relief

Irvine, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/10/2013 -- Botox is a facial therapeutic and esthetic agent that has been used for therapeutic and esthetic facial applications for the treatment of facial pain, medical facial therapy, dental-facial therapy, TMJ syndrome and occlusal (bad bite) dysfunction for close to 20 years. The use of Botox is said to be one of the most underused facial pain therapies, having tremendous potential to provide new services and better treatment outcomes in every medical and dental practice.

Dr. Stone recognizes that this is effective therapy at the source of bruxism (excessive tooth grinding), jaw muscles and facial muscles themselves. "Botox allows these muscles to relax and return to their normal size. The skin covering these muscles also relaxes and many of the facial wrinkles also relax and disappear. It has two positive effects at the same time – pain relief and making patients look younger," noted Dr. Stone.

"Botox has proven to be very effective in treating TMJ pain," stated Dr. Stone. Botox is used as an alternative treatment for TMJ disorders and associated jaw tension and pain. When injected into facial muscles afflicted with soreness and discomfort, Botox relieves TMJ and jaw tension for many patients. The injections often eliminate headaches resulting from teeth grinding and, in cases of severe stress, Botox can even minimize lockjaw. Dr. Frank Stone, Stone Smiles, is now offering Botox in his office for his patients who suffer from TMJ pain that hasn't responded well to other medications. Some medications previously used to treat TMJ have side effects or are ineffective.

Some 30 percent of the population suffers from headaches, a condition that occurs more frequently in women than men. Often these headache symptoms are caused from migraines, stress and chronic tension. Doctors have proposed several explanations for the disparity, including different levels of external stress and gender-related differences in the psychological response to pain. The best research, however, now suggests that sex hormones are to blame and loads of circumstantial evidence support this theory. In women, the headaches typically begin after puberty and tend to decrease in both frequency and intensity after menopause. These are the patients that Dr. Stone wants to help and he said, "For some patients headaches are both severe and occur frequently, even daily, and I know Botox can be the answer to relieving their pain."

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Dr. Frank Stone
Telephone: 949-786-8234
Email: Click to Email Dr. Frank Stone
Web: http://www.stonesmiles.com

Dentistry Gives Dr. Frank Stone Foundation for Sculpture Artistry

Dr. Stone’s artistic abilities not only come through in the smiles he creates, but also in the sculptures and paintings he creates. This self-taught, artistic passion began with one to two inch sculptures and has now evolved into larger creations and paintings.

Irvine, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/01/2013 -- Dr. Frank Stone of Stone Smiles has combined his trained and advanced dental skills with his artistic talents to create dental restorations for his patients for over four decades. Dr. Stone's ongoing commitment and involvement in his profession is woven throughout his entire career with regard to teaching and continuing education. Each year, his lineup of esthetic dentistry, restorative dentistry, implant dentistry, and laser dentistry techniques expand with the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies and dental materials.

After sculpting some of Orange County's most remarkable smiles, Dr. Frank Stone goes home and continues to sculpt, but these works of art don't involve enamel and gums. His interest in constructing three-dimensional sculptures began about 20 years ago when his interest was working with jewelry and small sculptures. He then began experimenting with larger art pieces.

"The three-dimensional aspect of a sculpture forces the viewer to look and interact with it and hopefully connects on a visceral level with my intensity, motivation and love for the piece," says Dr. Stone.

Each art piece takes a minimum of 50 hours to produce, and he is usually working on more than one piece at a time. Stone's 40-year-plus career in dentistry provided him with the foundation of knowledge for creating sculptures, one of which is his favorite, a multi-colored bird named Phoenix. The piece was awarded Best of Show at an international art competition in Nashville, TN sponsored by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. More recently, Dr. Stone has taken up yet another form of art – digital painting.

"Faces are three-dimensional pieces as well. I design how to make a face beautiful in its proportions. Symmetry is beauty," stated Dr. Stone. Dr. Stone who currently works on his creations at a studio in his garage in Newport Beach, CA says, "A professional art gallery and studio are in my future, but for now, my dental office in Irvine serves as my showroom."

His sculptures are on display in the waiting room. Digital paintings by Dr. Stone are mounted on the walls in patients' rooms. His ability to sculpt and create is most evident in his greatest works of living and functional art – his patients' smiles.

Dr. Frank Stone, Stone Smiles Presents BioEsthetic Face Rejuvenating Dentistry

BioEsthetics is the study of living things in their natural environment of health, function and beauty. Regarding BioEsthetic Face Rejuvenating Dentistry®, Dr. Stone says, “I have studied long-lasting, highly-functional and exceptionally-beautiful chewing systems for many years.”

Irvine, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/03/2013 -- The goal of BioEsthetics is the restoration of esthetics and function as opposed to a strong movement in dentistry today toward cosmetic dentistry only. When the function is restored properly the cosmetic result is beautiful.

As people age, teeth wear down until they're almost flat. With the wearing away of the teeth, especially the back teeth, the face starts to sag causing a more pursed look around the mouth and eventually, wrinkles start to appear. Dr. Stone can restore a patient's youthful appearance by creating longer crowns for the back teeth, which lengthens the face and restores the patient's original facial architecture. "This takes away from that pinched look that makes your face look older," says Dr. Stone.

Dr. Stone stated that, "As a BioEsthetic Dentist, I have undergone a rigorous four years of additional study and training specifically to diagnose and treat failing chewing systems as opposed to merely treating problems as they occur in outdated tooth-by-tooth 'repair' dentistry."

He reiterates, "Functional maximization, smile restoration and face transformation is the goal of BioEsthetic Face Rejuvenating Dentistry."

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Mark Curtis
Telephone: 949-786-8234
Email: Click to Email Mark Curtis
Web: http://www.stonesmiles.com
