Misti Armstrong, Customer Service Representative at Larson Tool & Stamping, is recognized in notable 2020 lineup of women in manufacturing

Attleboro, MA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 12/07/2020 -- MetalForming Magazine recently released its 2020 list of Women of Excellence in Metal Forming & Fabricating and Larson is pleased to announce that Misti Armstrong, a Customer Service Representative with 25 years tenure at Larson Tool & Stamping has made honorable mention within an impressive group of women recognized in this year's esteemed choices.

This is the fifth year that MetalForming Magazine, in conjunction with the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA) and with the support of the Women in Manufacturing Association (WiM), have awarded these distinctions that honor the accomplishments of women in the metal forming and fabricating industry. According to the article announcing the results, the selection process was difficult, as there was a "staggering amount" of entries—testament to the impressive talent of females in the manufacturing sector. Brad Kuvin, MetalForming editorial director, said, "The 2020 class, like those of the previous four years, represents the best of the best, and provides excellent examples and inspiration for those who may follow in their footsteps."

The nomination process included submitting details that represent leadership and accomplishment of the respective nominees in the metalforming industry. Brad Hankin, Larson's Customer Service Manager who nominated Armstrong, spoke of her perseverance, dedication, attention to detail, and ability to mediate collaboration between customers and production staff—a pivotal skill for any customer-facing role. She began her career with Larson as a part-time employee purchasing assistant 25 years ago. In her role, she had always been recognized for her willingness to learn, help others, along with her organizational skills. These qualities earned her a spot in Customer Service when the opening became available. A quick learner and initiator—taking on responsibilities that include keeping Larson's KAN-BAN system organized and functional—Armstrong continues to provide invaluable assistance to purchasing and excellent service to customers.

Among her strongest characteristics are her interpersonal skills—"everyone wants to work with Misti," said Hankin. Armstrong holds a wealth of information about the company and willingly shares it with stakeholder to help get things done. She is well respected by all levels of Larson's organization and interacts with leads and operators on the floor daily, with ease. She treats her internal customers with the same level of respect and attention as she does customers.

Hankin said of her work ethic, "No detail is too big or too small for her. If you need to know where something is, you can ask Misti and she will know, even if it is something used only occasionally. No matter the project, she jumps in with no hesitation to ensure things are successful. Misti is a dependable independent worker while also being a conscientious team member—always focused on the company's success as the goal. And all of that contributes to the ultimate success of our customers. We are thrilled that her commitment to excellence has been recognized by industry icons, putting her in exceptional company. We are grateful to Misti for her years of commitment and congratulate her on this accomplishment."

Larson Tool & Stamping Company Expands Its Tool-Building Capabilities

Precision metal stamper invests in lean re-design and update of tooling department to further optimize quality, production, and time to market for customers

Attleboro, MA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 11/24/2020 -- Larson Tool & Stamping Company in Attleboro, MA is celebrating 100 years in the tool and stamping business. Founder Nils Larson started the company in 1920 with patented products based on the metal stamping process. As America entered WW II, Larson produced hardware and components to support U.S. troops overseas. After the war it produced innovative products for the consumer and automotive markets. Later, Larson went on to become pioneers in deep drawn stampings. The Larson family, now in its fifth generation, has always had an engineering focus, developing and adopting new technologies in pursuit of excellence in metal stamping and tool building.

This year, to better serve its customers' needs, Larson is investing more than $200K to update and expand its tooling department. As part of its on-going lean manufacturing efforts, Larson has repurposed over 1,500 square feet, increasing its tooling facility. Larson is using lean principles to consolidate work-flow processes and machinery, automate machining processes, and organize work-in-process and material storage.

Manny Resendes, Larson's Engineering Manager, started with fresh ideas, re-thinking the entire tool building process. He worked closely with his team of engineers, toolmakers, and technicians to map out each process and create flow diagrams for each step of the tool design and build process. Under his direction, Larson's engineering staff has refocused their design process, starting with process design and development through try-out and process qualification, and is working closely with their technicians and programmers to bring their designs to the build process sooner. Larson has also made a capital investment in additional high-speed CNC machining centers and has hired CNC programmer/operators and technicians to focus on making fabrication and assembly processes faster and more efficient.

Although many companies apply their ISO 9001 quality management system (QMS) to control quality of their final product and production processes, the QMS is not always applied to support processes such as tool design and building. Resendes has developed a quality assurance system modeled after Larson's ISO 9001:2015 QMS, using Larson's risk management principles. These are specifically tailored to the tool-build process to minimize error, while bringing designs to completion faster and more accurately.

Resendes said, "My goal is to combine Larson's rich history of innovation and metal forming skill with today's technology, ISO 9001 processes, and lean principles to create a process that is faster, more accurate, and meets or exceed our customers' expectations. We have the best group of people to achieve these goals, and I'm really excited about the possibilities for Larson."

Larson's aim is to benefit its customers by saving time and money, helping bring customers' products to market sooner, and building reliable, quality-driven processes to meet its customers' production requirements in the long term.

Larson Tool & Stamping Celebrates 100 Years Serving the Manufacturing Industry

Precision Metalforming Experts Achieve Impressive Milestone!

Attleboro, MA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 03/16/2020 -- Attleboro, MA – 3/16/2020 – Larson Tool & Stamping Company, a precision metalforming manufacture, is celebrating 100 years in the metal stamping industry this month. Nils G. Larson and C.W. Cederberg, two immigrants with skillsets as apprentice blacksmiths, came to America to find opportunity. On March 15, 1920, tool room machinery and power presses were being installed at the renovated the Attleboro, MA facility as the two founders of Larson Tool awaited granting of their charter from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Larson and Cederberg were well on their way to fulfilling their plan to establish a company dedicated to the manufacture of metal stampings, assemblies, tools, and special machinery. Some of the early accomplishments that Larson has to its credit involve the development and patented ratchet wrench—of which Larson did the first stamping—that contributed to the sale of socket wrench sets, as well as the reinforcement clips for D-type shovel handles and the Larson Ford valve filter.

In the century since then, Larson has led with innovation, quality, service, and customers as their core focus, and has grown in size and reputation to become a valued supplier of precision metal stampings and assemblies to hundreds of companies in the United States. Known for its proprietary deep draw expertise, Larson's fully integrated services and capabilities span a wide range and also include forming, stamping, assembly, brazing, painting, coining, and more, allowing Larson to provide high-quality, cost-effective solutions. Just recently, Larson added state-of-the-art, large capacity press equipment, another CNC machining center, and a new CNC screw machine to its production floor.

Plans to celebrate this impressive milestone include a private party, showing appreciation to the dedicated employees who have helped Larson achieve this longevity. The range of diversity in Larson's abilities have spanned many industries over the years. Industries served include automotive, industrial and consumer hardware, hand and power tools, computer and electronics, fire safety and security, and architecture. Larson also proudly supplied parts to the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II, and continues to produce components and assemblies for military applications.

Larson Tool President, Chuck Cederberg, said, "To say I am proud that Larson has achieved this milestone doesn't quite convey it well enough. It took vision, innovation, and commitment—bordering on sacrifice many times—to bring Larson to fruition and nurture it to the growth and reputation we enjoy today. We are so appreciative of the workforce and our customers who have continued to choose us to partner with for everyone's combined success. We have always believed in re-investing in our people and the technology, which has proven to create quality products and solidify all our relationships through the years. We are very grateful to everyone who has contributed to our longevity and accomplishments and are thrilled to celebrate this anniversary with them and on their behalf."
Larson Tool President, Chuck Cederberg, serves on the educational Committee for PMA and helped lead the exploration into what types of online education platforms were currently on the market and which would be the best fit for PMA's project. Eventually PMA's education committee decided on an appropriate platform and launched METALFORM EDU in October 2018.

METALFORM EDU is a unique online training program that helps companies enhance their own talent pipeline by providing them access to highly-focused, on-demand training. The program comes complete with over 100 industry-specific courses on subjects ranging from onboarding, press operation, die setting, CNC, and much more. Larson now utilizes the online program for its own operations and can specify which courses will be best suited for a new-hire—providing specific training for entry-level courses and adding additional courses and training as the employee advances or shows interest in other career paths in the industry.

Noting the skills gap prevalent in manufacturing today, Bill Jordan, Larson's Human Resources Manager, said, "Having this program available allows me to hire an employee who has manufacturing experience, but who might not have metalforming knowledge. This program bridges the information gap and accelerates learning, enabling them to be a good press operator. It drastically reduces the learning curve, getting employees up and running, working safely, and producing quality parts."

Larson Tool is one of the founding members of PMA, and is committed to creating a sustainable metalforming workforce and ensuring industry knowledge remains intact and accessible to people pursuing careers in manufacturing. Of the program, Cederberg said, "This represents another milestone in our ongoing commitment to training and creating successful futures for those coming up in the trades. Larson is proud to have many leadership positions filled—past and present—with people who graduated from technical vocational schools. The right education ensures our combined success. We've been thrilled to be involved in the piloting of the METALFORMING EDU program, and look forward to using it to help our employees gain knowledge and industry expertise."

Larson Tool Adds New High-Performance Servo Press to Its Metal Stamping Facility

Precision Metal Stamping Manufacturer Expands Production Capabilities with High-Tech Press from Minster

Attleboro, MA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/08/2019 -- Larson Tool & Stamping Company is pleased to announce the addition of a new high-performance servo press to their metal stamping facility in Attleboro, MA. The featured machine is a Minster FX2-400-120 x 60 heavy stamper platform, straight-sided press, equipped with Minster Servo Drive Technology that puts Larson in total control of the press cycle. Power is supplied by planetary twin-end drive, high-powered servo motors capable of putting out around 440 U.S. tons of force.

With a variable stroke length of 13-3/4-inch max, the press can operate at a max speed of 70 strokes per minute (spm) at continuous full stroke, and 95 spm at a 4-inch stroke. The variable stroke allows Larson to perform faster cycle times, with the ability to slow or pause operations before contacting the material for better control of contact velocity. The press also features user-friendly programmable motion profiles for maximum manufacturing flexibility, with a multitude of different profile shapes—affording users full torque and energy at lower speeds for all motion profiles. Other notable features of the press include 4-channel load monitoring, 16-point programable die protection, and a 30-inch-wide servo roll feed with a .250-inch thickness capacity and double coil reel.

Neil Fonger, Larson's Sales and Marketing Manager, said, "The Larson Tool team is absolutely thrilled to have our new Minster FX2 press installed and fully operational at our facility. Minster FX2 series presses have set the industry standards for durability, flexibility, and value retention. This press will offer us a lot more versatility for transfer feeding, deep draw work, and automated in-die assembly. We have already seen some impressive productivity gains from shortening the stroke of the press and increasing speed. Here at Larson, we're always on the lookout for new ways to increase efficiency and are excited to continue offering our customers the production advantages that result from us reinvesting in our company."

Larson Tool & Stamping Company Unveils Updated Logo and New Website

Precision Metal Stamping Solutions Provider, Larson Tool, Presents a New Look

Attleboro, MA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/18/2018 -- Larson Tool & Stamping Company, a fourth-generation, family-owned company is a trusted supplier of precision metal stampings to hundreds of manufacturers and OEMs. Based in Attleboro, MA, Larson has over 90 years of experience in precision metal stamping and deep draw expertise. Known for its innovative culture and reliability in exceeding customer expectations, Larson has a reputable brand within the industry and continues to experience significant growth. Larson remains competitive through significant investment in leading-edge manufacturing equipment, continuous improvement initiatives, including internal training and apprenticeship programs. Larson's most recent investment is the unveiling of its new logo and customer-oriented website, created in collaboration with Boston-based B2B marketing agency, Grant Marketing.

Larson's website presents a completely new look, user-friendly navigation, an in-depth corporate video, and a pictorial tour of the facility. The new color palate replaces the previous blue/orange palette used for many years. In its place is a muted gray, light blue, with yellow scheme that refreshes the company brand with modern, sophisticated appeal. In addition, changes were made to the titles and content of certain pages to ensure customers can easily access immediate, accurate, and reliable information for all their precision metal stamping needs. The user experience was at the forefront of the website redesign, with emphasis placed on enhancing navigation and creating seamless integrations between the site's multiple pages. The last piece of the website is Larson Tool's recently released corporate video, offering visitors an inside view of the company's philosophy and facility.

In addition to rolling out a new website, Larson also made significant changes to its brand logo. The previous logo, an oval, with Larson (since 1920) inside, was a classic mark. The revamped design features the writing "Tool & Stamping" incorporated into the logo, making a stronger statement of Larson's capabilities than the previous logo, while paying homage to Larson's longevity. The new design is more balanced, modern, and speaks to the precision with which Larson Tool & Stamping is known for in the metal forming industry.
Larson Tool recently collaborated with Micah Baclig, a freelance designer based out of Providence, RI, to bring his conceptualized design of a compact and reusable utensil to life. Leveraging its technical know-how, precision metalworking experience and expertise, and in-house tooling capability, the stamping house custom designed and manufactured this innovative utensil—the Kuma™ spork. This hybrid form of cutlery, combining spoon and fork, was designed to be a convenient alternative to disposable cutlery that is often thrown out after one use.

A graduate of the industrial design program at the Rhode Island School of Design, Baclig approached Larson Tool in assisting him to find the right tool, material, and stamping for his creative vision. Continuing on its path of spurring innovation and creating new markets, the company took on the role of a mentor and collaborator to guide him through the entire manufacturing process. Baclig described his experience working with Larson Tool as "far and away the most positive" out of all his dealings with various vendors. He added, "As a company, they have been nothing but willing, receptive, and transparent in dealing with me and my small business."

John Cryan, Sales Manager at Larson Tool, said, "Given our company's impressive patent legacy and having pioneered many great inventions, including the ratchet wrench, load lifting jack, and jack handle, among others. At Larson Tool, we understand that starting a venture is a complex undertaking. That's why we act as a catalyst and nurture innovation by engaging, educating, and supporting the diverse precision metal stamping needs—from complex miniaturization to tighter tolerances—of start-ups. Advancing an entrepreneurial idea on a regional scale can spur economic growth and create jobs."
