Sam's Hope Awarded $10,000 Grant from Banfield Charitable Trust

Nonprofit organization to use grant to provide veterinary care assistance to pet owners facing economic and health challenges in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Wyndmoor, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/09/2014 -- Sam's Hope, a nonprofit animal welfare organization, was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from Banfield Charitable Trust (BCT) to support its Veterinary Care Assistance Program.

Sam's Hope will use the award to assist elderly, disabled, ill, unemployed, and low-income pet owners facing economic hardship in Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties in Southeastern Pennsylvania, in an effort to reduce the number of pets surrendered to shelters due to financial reasons.

"The funding from Banfield Charitable Trust will certainly help us double the impact we had in our first year of operation," says Marianne Iaquinto, founder of Sam's Hope. "Thanks to prior funding from BCT, other foundations and supporters, Sam's Hope was able to provide veterinary care assistance to 38 pets, (27 dogs and 11 cats), since it commenced operations in July 2013."

Each year, millions of companion animals are surrendered to shelters by their owners. Of these surrenders, approximately 1 million were due to the owners' financial inability to provide for their pets basic needs, veterinary care and pet food.

The goal of the Sam's Hope Veterinary Care Assistance Program is to reduce pet suffering, abandonments and surrenders to shelters due to pet owners' financial inability to provide care for their pets; keeping pets and people together.

Doris Day Animal Foundation Awards Grant to Sam's Hope for New "Meals for the Pets of the Homebound Elderly" Program

Pet Meals to Be Delivered to Southeastern Pennsylvania’s Homebound Elderly on a Monthly Basis

Wyndmoor, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/01/2014 -- The Doris Day Animal Foundation (DDAF, http://www.ddaf.org), a national non-profit organization founded by the legendary actress and animal welfare advocate, has provided a grant to Sam's Hope to establish a "Meals for the Pets of the Homebound Elderly" program.

"When we learned about Sam's Hope and their community work to keep pets at home with their families and out of shelters, we wanted to help," Miss Day said from her home in Carmel, California. "DDAF funds 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organizations helping animals and the people who love them. Marianne Iaquinto, founder of Sam's Hope, and the volunteers who help with this valuable work are making a difference in their communities, and we're proud to be able to help with their efforts."

"The funding from Doris Day Animal Foundation will help us kick-start a much needed program that will provide food for the pets of low-income, homebound senior citizens," says Marianne Iaquinto, founder of Sam's Hope. "Pet food will be distributed on a monthly basis via an established home-delivered meals program and will benefit seniors in Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties in Southeastern Pennsylvania."

This program will be a win-win for both the pet and the senior.

The pet will receive healthy, pet-appropriate meals, stay in their home with their beloved person, and not face surrender to an overburdened shelter system where his/her future is very uncertain.

The benefits to the senior are numerous; less strain on limited finances, a longer, happier, healthier life that a companion animal provides, and not having to make the decision of feeding their pet or themselves, (as many as 90% of seniors share meals with their pets, compromising their health and nutrition),

Sam's Hope Awarded Grant for Veterinary Assistance Program from Petco Foundation

Non-profit organization to use funds to provide veterinary assistance program for elderly pet owners facing economic and health challenges in Southeastern Pennsylvania

Wyndmoor, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/10/2014 -- Sam's Hope, a non-profit animal welfare organization, was recently awarded a grant for their Veterinary Assistance Program from the Petco Foundation.

Sam's Hope will use the award to assist elderly pet owners facing economic and health challenges in Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Studies show that pet ownership can significantly benefit the elderly in many ways; reduced stress and depression, reduced feeling of loneliness and isolation, and improved health and activity.

Pet ownership can be costly; providing veterinary care for a pet can be cost prohibitive to a senior on a fixed income.

All too often, a senior is forced to make a difficult choice; providing for his or her own basic needs, or the needs of their beloved pet. When it becomes too much of a stretch on their well-being and finances, the pet pays the ultimate price, and is surrendered to a shelter where it faces a very uncertain future.

Millions of companion animals are surrendered to shelters each year. Of these surrenders, approximately 6% were due to the owner's financial inability to care for the pet.

Our goal is to reduce the surrender of loved and wanted pets due to the owner's financial inability to provide veterinary care for the pet.
