Crowdfunding for Wearable Technologies Research Provides New Data About Funding Trends for Technology Startups

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/18/2014 -- Crowdfund Productions (www.CrowdfundProductions.com), Colorado based crowdfunding consulting and event management company, completed a research "Crowdfunding for Wearable Technologies".

The industry, which includes activity tracking and health monitoring devices, smart textile, virtual reality hardware, wearable computers and hands-free communicators, already has reached billions of dollars in sales and continues to grow very fast. Alongside huge global corporations spending millions of dollars on R&D, small startups around the world create revolutionary new products. Crowdfunding has become the mainstream in bringing these ideas to market.

"We researched 300 wearable technology projects which have raised money on two largest crowdfunding platforms Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Combined, these campaigns have raised almost 50 million dollars," said Elena Mikhaylova, CEO of Crowdfund Productions.

Here are some of the findings from the research:

-Crowdfunding for wearable technologies has grown hugely over the last several years. There were only six campaigns which combined, raised less than $400,000 in 2011. During just three months of 2014, we've seen 45 active campaigns. Successful projects have raised over eight million dollars in January – March of 2014.

-34% of Indiegogo and 45% of Kickstarter projects have succeeded in reaching their funding goals.

-While 34% of all successful campaigns have been originated in California, there is a large upswing in other countries and continents as well. Creators of successful campaigns live in 20 countries on five continents.

-One in four projects has risen over $100,000.

-The major problem of the industry is the lack of responsibility of the creators. Only 24% of the projects that reached their funding goals in 2010-2013 on Indiegogo and 51% of successful projects on Kickstarter have delivered the funded products to their backers. For flexible funding Indiegogo campaigns these numbers are even worse.

The research conducted for the first time in history provides invaluable data to highlight major industry trends, potential problems and to evaluate the growth rate for the market niche in crowdfunding for technology products. It will be beneficial for wearable technology entrepreneurs, crowdfunding experts and enthusiasts, and those interested in studying or investing into the industry startups.

Aspen Forum...the First Major Investment Conference of 2014 Will Be Held January 6-7, 2014

Leaders in crowdfunding and angel investing, entrepreneurs, and lawyers will meet January 6–7, 2014, at the legendary Jerome Hotel in Aspen, Colorado, for the Aspen Global Investment Forum.

Denver, CO -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/30/2013 -- The passage of the JOBS Act has created new opportunities in the private investments industry. This legislation has resulted in high expectations but also raised many concerns. This fall we saw two major developments: in September, an 80-year ban on general solicitation was removed, allowing private companies and investment funds to openly promote their fund-raising needs. Then, in October, the SEC voted on the rules for crowdfunding to allow nonaccredited investors to participate. Aside from the legal battles, we witnessed the emergence of new crowdfunding portals and entrance into the industry of established financial institutions and global corporations.

Participants at the Aspen Forum will discuss new trends in the industry and how they will influence specific segments and the investment ecosystem in general.

Among the speakers are founders of seven real estate crowdfunding platforms, which offer investment opportunities through business loans to real estate developers, equity in commercial and residential projects, and distressed mortgages.

Healthcare entrepreneurs will learn from Andrew Farquharson, founder of equity crowdfunding platform VentureHealth; Dan Burnett, CEO of Channel Medsystems, a company currently raising money through crowdfunding; and Howard Leonhard, an inventor of more than 20 products for treating cardiovascular disease.

Those interested in portfolio diversification or business loans will benefit from attending the "Innovations in lending industry" panel. Speakers represent companies offering loans and lines of credit up to $500,000. Financial groups and investment funds have already started outsourcing some of their loan originations to lending platforms. With further progress in technology and significantly lower overhead costs, social lending will continue to grow and impact the financial world.

In addition, presentations will be devoted to the legal landscape of private placements, common misconceptions about equity crowdfunding, investor relations in the post-JOBS Act era, secondary markets for the new class of securities, investing through self-directed IRAs, and how global corporations can benefit from crowdfunding.

Other speakers represent AngelList, the largest online community of private investors; SparkMarket, first US equity crowdfunding platform for nonaccredited investors; due diligence service providers; legal firms; and leaders of investment/crowdfunding communities from the UK, Sweden, Israel, Netherlands, and Australia.

The Forum is organized by Crowdfund Productions LLC with financial support from Pepper Hamilton LLP, Ellenoff Grossman & Schole LLP, and Patch of Land.

Unique Crowdfunding Conference Comes to Chicago

Chicago, IL -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/04/2013 -- More than twenty experts from five states will gather on November 15th in Chicago to discuss the latest developments in crowdfunding industry at Midwest Crowdfunding Conference.

The conference includes five panel discussions, presentations and a networking reception. The Morning session, opened with a keynote delivered by Daryl Montgomery, an author and leader of a major investor group in New York City, will examine the rewards and donation-based crowdfunding. Lunchtime Workshop will help those who consider running a campaign by offering a road map and a toolkit to make it more predictable and efficient. The Afternoon session will explore business financing options. Attendees will hear from private investors, lawyers and entrepreneurs, who will be sharing their experiences and discuss pros and cons of different fundraising options.

A special panel will be devoted to crowdfunding for real estate. This option provides unique opportunities for those who want to get involved in commercial real estate investing without spending a fortune on it. With only a thousand dollars "ordinary Joes" will have an access to lucrative projects, best experts who have been involved in hundreds of huge transactions and an opportunity to mitigate risks by investing alongside large funds. On the other hand, it will give real estate developers access to millions of small investors while leaving the legal and organizational hassle to crowdfunding portals.

People interested in starting projects on Kickstarter and other platforms will get "insider information" from those who have succeeded in reaching their goals. Among the panelists are those who have raised money for spice blends (think about a combination of liquor and hot peppers!), all-in-one bike multitool, women's fashion collection, a science fiction movie as well as a woman who has raised on GiveForward more than a million dollars for medical expenses of her classmate injured in Boston Marathon bombing.

This fall has brought many changes in funding options for small businesses. In September eighty years long ban on general solicitation was removed allowing businesses openly promote their projects to investors; in October SEC voted on the rules for crowdfunding for non-accredited investors. After becoming a law it will let all Americans invest in private companies. The afternoon session will educate entrepreneurs about these changes and how they can benefit from them. The attendees will hear in-depth presentation by well-known corporate lawyer from New York City Brian Korn, discussions between founders of equity crowdfunding and P2P lending companies, and a closing keynote speech delivered by Ron Suber, director of global institutional sales at Prosper, the leading lending marketplace.

Crowdfunding Gains Popularity Across Business Community

Crowdfunding events are happening all over the United States, attracting significant interest from startups to global corporations.

Boston, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/09/2013 -- Crowdfunding workshop was voted as the second most desirable topic for discussion at Denver Startup Week, an annual business gathering which attracts several thousand local entrepreneurs. All available spots were taken almost three weeks prior to the event on September 20th. A representative of IBM spoke at the Crowdfunding East conference in Boston at the end of August. These are the components of the same movement: crowdfunding is becoming an essential part of the business for all types of enterprises, from garage entrepreneurs to global corporations.

The recent financial crisis has led to severe lack of funding available for small businesses and ambitious inventors. Lack of availability of traditional bank financing and decreases in government funding programs has made entrepreneurs look for alternative options, including consumer financing. The Internet has expanded friends and family funding into online community fundraising campaigns known as crowdfunding.

This fundraising mechanism, which was traditionally used by non-profits and artists, is becoming a significant factor in the business world. Research company Massolution, a firm which is running a crowdfunding and crowdsourcing conference in New York City this month, forecasts that crowdfunding portals will raise over $5 billion in 2013.

A recent crowdfunding conference hosted at Harvard Faculty Club by Crowdfund Productions provided several important insights in the industry trends:

- While Kickstarter attracts the most publicity, there are many options available for entrepreneurs looking to raise funds for their projects,
- The rise of niche platforms opens new opportunities for innovators and companies interested in additional support and industry expertise,
- The industry growth involves the creation of additional services: white label platforms, escrow, legal, technological and accounting support, etc.
- P2P industry has seen huge growth over last years, providing an opportunity for investors interested in higher rates of return compared to most other options currently available,
- The vast majority of accredited investors are not currently participating in any kind of private placements; educating them about crowdfunding and crowd lending opportunities, and tax benefits through self-directed IRAs would provide a huge increase in money available,
- Universities recognize the value of crowdfunding to fund research projects and student enterprises; we see the movement from single research projects on general platforms to the creation of University sponsored white label platforms involving student, alumni, academics and local investor communities,
- Crowdfunding is now on the radar of established financial institutions, global corporations and local governments. Procter&Gamble, IBM, Cisco, ABN-Amro, and Coca-Cola use crowdfunding for market validation for new products and concepts and customer engagement. We will see more major corporations and investor groups coming into the market after equity crowdfunding rules are finalized by the SEC. Global Aspen Investment Forum next January will examine the impact of crowdfunding on the whole investment eco-system.

Crowdfunding is growing exponentially. It expands in diverse industries and regions. Owners of small coffee shops and leaders of large technology companies are learning to use it for innovation, community engagement and project funding.
