LifeLock Receives 2015 Besty Award from BestIDTheftCompanys.com

Most most popular review site presents LifeLock’s Member Services with a prestigious award

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/06/2015 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com's (BIDTC) identity theft expert Robert Siciliano and the BIDTC team visited LifeLock, Inc. headquarters last week to present LifeLock with the 2015 Besty Award.

"In ten years, Lifelock has amassed the best of talented people who truly have a passion for identity theft protection," said Siciliano. "When consumers have an identity theft issue, no matter what its nature, they can call 24/7/365 and get a live, empathetic, resourceful professional on the phone to help them resolve their issue."

The Besty Award is an accolade given to companies who have proven to be the best in their industry and can match up to TheBestCompanys.com's proprietary ranking criteria system. LifeLock is the first and only company to have received the Besty Award in the identity theft industry.

Siciliano and the rest of the BIDTC team toured headquarters and observed LifeLock, Inc. on their operations and processes. The BIDTC team was happy to discover that LifeLock's restoration and recovery process was better than what is being advertised.

"When we saw their identity recovery process we were thoroughly impressed," said BIDTC's CMO Paul Adams, "LifeLock's identity restoration sets them apart and is a key reason for receiving this award."

LifeLock, Inc. runs a secure facility and has direct lines to several other companies in affected industries to provide as quick of identity recovery as possible to their clients. When customers call in they are immediately connected to their caseworker who will be their contact the remainder of the time with LifeLock until the situation is best resolved. Not only is LifeLock's restoration process a stand-out, but their protection technology is state-of-the-art.

"Lifelock posses the only existing proactive identity theft protection technology that monitors a consumer's Social Security number in real time on most major creditors databases, and sees when their credit is being considered for new accounts," said Siciliano.

BIDTC's panel of expert scored LifeLock at an 8.3 out of 10. LifeLock has always been the number one ranked company on BestIDTheftCompanys.com regardless of the improved ranking criteria changes made over the years. LifeLock has acquired approximately 150 user reviews with an average score of 7.6 out 10.

Federal Data Breach Inspires BestIDtheftCompanys.com to Complete New Survey

BestIDtheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) releases new survey displaying people’s preference on being informed of a personal data breach.

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/10/2015 -- BestIDtheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) releases new survey results on people's preference for data breach notifications. BIDTC is searching to learn what people are looking for in terms of being notified of a data breach.

With the recent major data breach happening in Washington on the identity theft crisis that affected over 4 million federal employees BIDTC has looked to know what consumers are looking for in being notified about data breaches.

BestIDtheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) put out a survey to understand how consumers want to be notified about a personal data breach.

The results were to help determine how best to direct consumers to the right companies. It also was to see if any of BIDTC's ranking criteria would need adjustments to better match what consumers are looking for. The initial survey had 743 respondents.

The survey was given with the following question:

What type of notification is best to inform you of a data breach?

a. Text Message (41.7%)
b. Email (37.4%)
c. Phone Call (21.0%)

The results between receiving a text message alert or an email alert were answered close enough in percentage that BIDTC experts will not make any drastic changes to evaluating the ranked scores.

BIDTC did discover that the older generation tended to lean more to e-mail and phone calls while 56.3 percent of those that were 18-24 year olds preferred text messages.

For males 62.7 percent between the ages of 18-24 chose text messages. Other statistics included 44.3 percent of all people retirement age and older choosing e-mail over text messages and phone calls.

"While the results seem to be somewhat obvious to many," CMS Isaac Ericksen said. "We couldn't determine without the voice of consumers what best notification features to highlight for BIDTC."

BIDTC will continue to do more surveys to determine the best course for informing consumers about identity theft and protection.

New Evidence Supports Ranking Criteria

New Expert Evidence Supports BestIdentityTheftCompanys.com Ranking Criteria

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/16/2015 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) recently surveyed experts and consumers on how much the ranking criteria for identity protection services contributed to their final decision-making. The criteria were broken down individually and the end-result showed that each point was relevant.

With recent identity theft breaches, identity protection services are more important then ever. Each identity theft company on BIDTC is reviewed and ranked based on weighted criteria. To ensure that the consumer is receiving the most relevant information, BIDTC gathered expert and consumer opinion on the following:

- Identity Protection
- Identity Recovery
- Insurance
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- Better Business Bureau (BBB) Rating

Identity Protection, Identity Recovery and Insurance were considered the basis of every identity protection service. Evidence showed that 67% of identity theft experts agreed that the Recovery portion was the most important part of an identity theft protection service.

CISSP is a recognized standard of achievement that confirms an individual's knowledge in the field of information security. 64% of experts surveyed agreed that having a security certification helps legitimize the identity theft protection company.

"A CISSP certified individual has some serious knowledge to protect information systems and their vulnerabilities. Before technology is compromised, CISSPs are there to proactively put systems in place to protect the public from crime." – Robert Siciliano

The recent survey posted the statement, "The Better Business Bureau (BBB) grade/rating of a company affects my decision in purchasing a product or service."

More than 1,000 individuals were surveyed and the results showed 40.8 percent agreed with that statement. Along with that answer, 33 percent were neutral and 26 percent disagreed. This data confirms that a BBB rating is important to customers when researching companies.

Criteria points used to review products and services are only important if the consumer/expert deems it so. In order to maintain the quality of the reviews, BIDTC made sure to survey both experts and consumers to get their opinion. The evidence is clear that BIDTC's criteria points are crucial items to be considered when researching your identity theft protection company.

Fraudulent Charges Have Been Proven to Start Small

Most consumers who answered BIDTC's recent survey revealed their fraudulent charges weren't high.

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/29/2014 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) is an industry leading review website, known for their thorough research into identity theft companies. Their experts were interested in the amount of money that is typically charged onto credit cards as a result of fraud. They distributed a survey to over 1000 consumers all over the nation, and received back the following results:

How much money have you been charged on your credit card that was a result of fraud?
A: $0-99: 75 percent
B: $100-199: 4.9 percent
C: $200-299: 3.1 percent
D: $300-399: 2.6 percent
E: $400+: 14.4 percent

The answer of $0-99 is the winner holding 75 percent of the vote. As stated in BIDTC's related blog, many instances of fraud and identity theft start out from small, unnoticed purchases here and there; purchases that a consumer may not notice or be concerned about. Bigger sudden purchases will certainly alarm most consumers who check their bank statements frequently.

It is also known that credit card companies or banks will call the original credit card owner to confirm most large purchases. If the purchases are smaller, those consumers will not get a phone call or an alert.

However, as 0 dollars is in the range of answer "A", some of these consumers who responded to the survey may have not been hit by identity fraud yet. This survey was distributed to over 1000 consumers evenly, not only to consumers who have had occurrences of identity fraud.

The answer that holds the next biggest percentage of votes is the largest dollar range given. 14.4 percent of the consumers asked have had over 400 dollars of fraudulent charges on their credit card.

BIDTC believes that consumers should be checking their bank statements regularly and reviewing all charges made on their credit cards, both big and small. Small purchases that consumers don't have any recollection of making need to be addressed. Identity thieves have been known to make a number of small purchases until the account is depleted.

BIDTC Adds Unique Company to Their Rankings

MyLife was added to BIDTC's site as an up-and-coming identity theft company.

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/16/2014 -- At the end of September 2014, BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) added a unique company to their rankings. MyLife, normally used for managing consumer's personal information and social media presence, has made its way into the identity theft industry. BIDTC reviewed them as soon as they caught word of this recent move.

BIDTC is a trusted source for identity theft company reviews. Their team of experts are constantly researching and exposing the greatest and weakest companies in the identity theft industry. Right now, MyLife is ranked low, but BIDTC has stated that they may become a major competitor.

"We see MyLife's potential to become great. They already offer valuable features other identity theft companies don't. And the features that MyLife doesn't offer yet, we know that they will be offered down the road, " says BIDTC website manager, Amber Newby.

MyLife allows customers to not only view their online personal information in one place, but also manage it the way they want. Customers can choose to view this information on their computers or on an app. This app, on both iPhone and Android, was named one of the best apps in 2012.

MyLife's services are quoted at $95.40 a year. This puts them among the cheapest services out of any company ranked on BIDTC. Customer's will be able to protect their personal information, view who is searching for them, and receive alerts whenever there is any suspicious activity or changes to their information. MyLife will calculate their customer's current risk of identity theft. Customer's can then track this risk overtime and monitor their progress.

One of their best features is a basic but valuable tool. MyLife's summary section gives customers a "snapshot" of all of their personal information that is online. The snapshot includes which records need to be removed, which ones MyLife has already removed for them, how many sites MyLife has investigated, and the number of sites that are exposing the costumer's personal information.

MyLife has mentioned adding more components to their identity theft services. BIDTC will stay on top of their development and continually update MyLife's review and score as the change happens.

Consumers Reveal the Most Recognized Identity Theft Company

A recent survey distributed by BIDTC shows LifeLock as the most recognized company in the identity theft industry.

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/09/2014 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) is an industry leading review website, known for their thorough research into identity theft companies. Their experts were interested in what brand comes to consumer's minds when they think of identity theft. They distributed a survey to hundreds of consumers and received back these distinct results:

Which brand do you recognize most when it comes to identity theft?
A) LifeLock – 68.2 percent
B) Identity Guard – 13.0 percent
C) LegalShield – 9.3 percent
D) ID Watchdog – 6.1 percent
E) InfoArmor – 3.4 percent

With 68.2 percent of the vote, LifeLock is the clear winner in brand recognition. This is likely due to their high marketing budget resulting in frequent commercials and ads. They have also proven to be one of the best companies in the identity theft industry. On BIDTC, LifeLock is the number one ranked company out of over 95 companies listed.

Identity Guard comes in second at 13.0 percent. Identity Guard is definitely a well-known brand, but how are they ranked on BIDTC compared to LifeLock? Right now, Identity Guard isn't in the top five. A direct quote from Identity Guard's review on BIDTC states;

"Even though Identity Guard might seem like a big player in the identity theft industry, we believe that they could do a lot more to better their product and take care of their customers."

LegalShield, ID Watchdog, and InfoArmor make up the rest of the votes. They are also all in BIDTC's top five recommended companies. Although ID Watchdog and InfoArmor are ranked higher than LegalShield on BIDTC, LegalShield has over 90 more customer reviews than the other two companies combined. The majority of these reviews are left by satisfied customers.

When comparing results by demographics, the biggest insight BIDTC experts found was that the higher earning men picked LifeLock more than any other demographic.

BIDTC Finds Results of Recent Survey Concerning

A recent survey reveals that most consumers aren’t checking their credit reports and bank statements as much as they should be.

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/17/2014 -- A recent survey was published by BestIDTheftCompanys.com, or BIDTC, that revealed how often consumers check their bank statements and credit reports for fraud. This survey was distributed to hundreds of consumers all over the nation. Within each demographic, interesting data surfaced. But the overall result was the most interesting statistic of all.

How often do you check your bank statements and/or credit report for fraud?

A)Never – 33.2 percent
B)Multiple times each month – 26.3 percent
C)Once a month – 26.2 percent
D)Once a year – 7.6 percent
E)A couple times a year – 6.8 percent

33.2 percent of the consumers surveyed never check their bank statements and credit reports to check for fraud. This response raises concern to the identity theft experts at BIDTC. The following is a comment made by an expert after reviewing results:

"I was blown away by the fact that most consumers don't take identity fraud more seriously," says BIDTC website manager, Amber Newby. "It happens so often, and consumers should definitely be checking their credit reports and statements more frequently."

The next highest results were almost a tie. 26 percent of consumers surveyed are checking their bank statements and credit reports either once a month or multiple times a month.

BIDTC recently posted an article on this survey and analyzed and compared the results by demographic. Their research brought up a few interesting statistical findings.

Their most significant find was within the comparison by age. Consumers who were over the age of 65 were much more concerned about checking their bank statements and credit reports than those between the ages of 18-24. A big 50.7 percent of consumers between the ages of 18-24 never check their reports and statements, while only 15 percent over the age of 65 had the same response. Yet, a full 39 percent of those over the age of 65 claimed they check their statements and reports multiple times a month.

BIDTC's article also gives some valuable advice. They insist that consumers should be checking their credit reports at least a couple of times a year. If consumers are checking their reports and statements any less than that, they are running the risk of becoming susceptible to identity fraud.

BIDTC Uncovers LifeLock's Most Recent and Biggest Competitor

IdentityForce is maturing into a competing force in the identity protection industry

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/09/2014 -- On Friday, September 6th, IdentityForce surpassed Identity Guard and gained the #2 spot on BestIDTheftCompany.com's most recommended Identity Theft Companies' list. They are now in close running with identity theft's top dog, LifeLock. BestIDTheftCompanys.com, or BIDTC, has found many positive things about IdentityForce that consumers should take note of.

BIDTC is a trusted source for identity theft company reviews. Their team of experts are constantly researching and exposing the greatest and weakest companies in the identity theft industry. Recently, IdentityForce has been catching their eye as one of the greats.

"IdentityForce has been making great strides in improving their services to customers and setting themselves apart from their competitors," says BIDTC website manager, Amber Newby.

What sets IdentityForce apart from the others? They not only offer the complete package for identity protection at an affordable price, they save customers hours of work by doing paperwork and making phone calls for them. Several customers have been leaving positive comments on IdentityForce's profile on BIDTC. Below is a comment that was left on their profile by a customer by the name of Steve:

"My wife and I have been using this company for about a year and a half now and they have never failed to send both monthly alerts and updates on our ID risks. We also did a lot of research ahead of time and found that Identity Force was one of the most trusted ID protection companies. Very satisfied!"

IdentityForce offers something else that other companies don't, their Delete Now feature. This is such a unique feature in the fact that customers can simply and quickly delete any personal information spotted on the Internet in places the customer does not approve of. The Delete Now feature can search up to 190 websites for a person's personal information. It will then allow customers to pull up their report and look through the different areas that their information is being displayed. If they are uncomfortable with anything they see, with just one quick press of a button and the information is gone. If the website happens to repost their information again, the customer will get alerted and can easily delete it once again.

The Delete Now feature is such an innovative addition to the customer's identity theft package; it's hard to want to choose any other company to subscribe with, knowing you wont have that option.

About IdentityForce
IdentityForce has over nine years of experience with an A+ Better Business Bureau rating. Not only do they provide excellent identity theft protection, they've proven to be a well-run and trusted company. After reading through IdentityForce's complete review on BIDTC, consumers will agree that their recent move up the list of most recommended identity theft companies was the right move.

Interesting Statistics on Who Reads the Terms of Service

A survey distributed by an identity protection company reveals surprising facts.

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/26/2014 -- San Francisco, CA - A recent survey was published by BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) that shows which consumers actually take the time to read the Terms and Services before making a purchase online and which do not. This survey was conducted to over 1,000 consumers of all different demographics. Within each demographic, interesting data emerged. Below is the exact question that was handed to the consumers and the results. Upon further reading, you'll find out which demographics made up the most of these responses.

How often do you read the Terms of Service/Conditions before purchasing a service online?

A) Often – 23.8 percent
B) Sometimes – 22.7 percent
C) Seldom – 18.6 percent
D) Never – 34.9 percent

Do more consumers read the Terms of Service information before making purchases or do more ignore it?

According to BestIDTheftCompanys.com's most recent blog post on the subject, more consumers skip reading the Terms and make their purchase.

"The statistics found while comparing age were especially interesting to me," said Rachel Patterson, a Content Manager for BestIDTheftCompanys.com. "It just proves how different the habits are of each generation."

Rachel was referring to the very clear and statistically proven finding that older consumers were much more likely to read through the Terms of Service while younger consumers would "never" read through them.

Another interesting fact was uncovered in their research. Their comparison by income revealed that most of those consumers making less than $25,000 yearly also never read the Terms and Services before making a purchase. But did that mean the highest-earning group would "often" read the Terms? Not necessarily. The $150,000 plus group all fell into the category of "seldom" reading the terms.

About BestIDTheftCompanys.com
BestIDTheftCompanys.com believes it's extremely important to always go through the Terms and Services (or Terms and Conditions) before making any sort of purchase or using any kind of service online. They have even gone as far as breaking down important points in each Terms of Service section for whatever identity theft company you are reviewing, and posting it in easier terms to understand. You can check it out on BIDTC, under any of their company reviews.

Consumers Reveal Where They Are Most Afraid of Their Personal Information Being Stolen

BestIDTheftCompanys.com uses consumer insight to push identity theft industry in a new direction

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/12/2014 -- San Francisco, CA — With the frequent security and data breaches, the BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) Research Team hypothesized that consumers would be most concerned about their information that is within company databases, but results showed differently.

BIDTC took a poll of approximately 1,000 random and asked them, "Regarding identity theft, what type of information do you think is the most vulnerable?" Answers include:

A. My information that is saved online – 31.6%
B. My physical documents (license, Social Security card, etc.) – 25.8%
C. My information that is saved in company databases – 20.8%
D. My information that is saved on my computer – 20.1%
E. All of the Above – 1.7%

The BIDTC Research Team conducts these polls not only to better the expert knowledge within BestIDTheftCompanys.com, but to also help companies in the industry improve their product quality.

"We believe that identity theft protection companies should take this information to help better their services for consumers," said website manager Amber Newby. "All companies in this industry should make sure they offer services that can protect information that is saved online, since most people believe that is where they are most susceptible to becoming an identity theft victim."

Newby said that BIDTC predicts that the companies who do offer that service will give many of their customers peace of mind, therefore leading to a happier and committed customer.

The BIDTC Research Team also broke down survey responses into demographics analyses, which can help further interpret some of the data. Listed below are a couple of those insights without any accompanying conclusions or theories.

In each of the response options (A through E), men and women showed approximately an equal response rate, except for two of the responses. Women showed more responses to "physical documents" where men showed more responses to "information saved in company databases."

Another insight the BIDTC Research Team found was that people who made more than $100,000 each year displayed an overwhelming response to information that is either saved online or in company databases.

54 Percent of Americans Show That There Is More Than One Way to Protecting Your Identity

BestIDTheftCompanys.com Finds the Most Popular Ways People Are Keeping Their Personal Information Safe from Fraud

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/24/2014 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) surveyed more than 1,000 random people and found that more than half of them are currently protecting their identity in some way. Protection methods in the survey included:

- Checking bank statements
- Monitoring credit reports
- Signing up with an identity theft protection company
- Using a credit freeze

In the survey, it also showed that 45 percent of those surveyors don't do anything to protect their identity. The BIDTC Research Team's hypothesis for this survey was that the "Nothing" response would far outweigh all of the other responses combined.

"The 'Nothing' response seems to be the most important take-away from this survey, but we combined all proactive responses (response letters B, C, D and E) and found that a little more than half are actually taking some steps toward protecting their identity on their own," said website manager Amber Newby.

Newby said that their team values protection through an identity theft protection company the most reliable, but they commend anyone who takes the do it yourself approach (responses B, C and E).

Survey insights include information from two types of demographics: age and income.

The BIDTC Research Team found that one specific age group had a majority response to each one of the proactive responses. For example, people who are 65 years old and older was the majority age group that responded to "I check my bank statements." The 35 to 44-year-old age group was the majority responder to "I monitor my own credit report."

Other interesting information the Research Team found related to income was that in almost every single proactive response (ones where people are actually doing something about their identity), the majority income average were easily those who make more than $75,000 a year. A couple of responses showed that the respondents were bringing in more than $150,000 a year.

Review Site Exposes Most Affordable and Expensive Companies in the Identity Theft Industry

BestIDTheftCompanys.com finds a big gap between what people want to pay and what companies are charging

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/16/2014 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) took a poll of 1,000 random people and asked them how much they are willing to pay (per month) for a high-quality identity theft protection service. An overwhelming response of more than half the surveyors said they would pay no more than $9 each month.

The BIDTC research team also compiled data from all of the 88 companies reviewed on their website and found that the industry average for an identity protection costs $17.76 each month. This is nearly double the amount consumers are willing to pay for this type of service.

Also noted in the process were the two most affordable and expensive identity theft protection services currently offered. ID TheftSmart was found to be on the cheap end, only charging $7.95 each month with an Overall BIDTC Score of 3.0 (out of 10). LifeLock is another affordable company for only $9 per month, with an Overall BIDTC Score of 9.5.

"[LifeLock] has good customer service, [and] the price is cheap which is what I need," said LifeLock customer Spencer K.

On the other end of the spectrum, the most expensive identity theft protection company was Check Credit Guard with a monthly price of $29.99 and an Overall BIDTC score of 3.3. LegalShield was the second most expensive company in the industry charging people $29.95 each month, and their Overall BIDTC score is a 5.7.

"We wanted to show the big gap in between what companies are charging their customers and what the people are willing to pay," said website manager Amber Newby. "The need for an identity theft protection service is great, especially now, and we expect the companies in the industry to make the adjustments needed so consumers can afford the protection they need."

Only 12 percent of consumers are willing to pay more than $20 each month for a service to protect their identity, and approximately half of the companies in the industry charge more than that.

The BestIDTheftCompanys.com research team concluded that if the companies in the identity theft industry lowered their prices across the market then more people would sign up for the protection service, therefore yielding to more customers (and revenue) than before.

"If the identity theft industry made this change, then we can foresee a big win-win situation for both identity theft protection companies and consumers across the country," said Newby.

New Survey Results Show What Consumers Really Want in Identity Theft Services

BestIDTheftCompanys.com uses survey data to help rank identity theft companies

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/20/2014 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) discovers what consumers find as the most important part of an identity theft service. After surveying more than 1,000 random people, the majority of consumers revealed that they see identity protection and prevention features as the most important component to a service. Other survey results include:

-Identity Protection & Prevention Features – 41.4%
-Price – 23.8%
-Identity Recovery & Assistance – 22.0%
-Insurance Amount & Quality – 11.2%
-Other – 1.6%

The survey data is backed up with multiple customer reviews left by BIDTC visitors stating in their reviews that they appreciate the protection their company is offering them.

"When I signed up [with] LifeLock [they] ran my public records that same day and pulled some traffic violations I had from over a decade ago... It's a great added protection," said BIDTC visitor Jeff.

"This [identity] protection is really great! I can easily see if a site is not legit and I know were not to put my credit card information (I do a ton of online shopping)," said BIDTC visitor Stephanie.

The results of this survey data has even affected the BIDTC's How We Rank criteria that is used to rank all of the identity theft protection companies in the industry. The updated ranking criteria reflects Identity Protection & Prevention Features and Price as one of the most heavily weighted factors.

"We directly ask the consumers what they want out of an identity theft service, and with that information we apply it to our ranking criteria," said website manager Amber Newby. "Now our company rankings truly display what the consumers want out of these companies instead of how review sites think companies should be ranked, like most do."

Other interesting data collected from this survey shows breakdowns of responses to demographics.

-In a gender breakdown, women had a greater response to all answer choices except for Insurance Amount and Quality.

-The majority of people who selected Protection and Prevention as the most important component were those who make at least $75,000 a year.

-People who were in between the ages of 25 and 34 years old had a significantly higher response to choosing Insurance Amount and Quality.

Answers under the category of "Other" include "I would never pay for an identity theft service", "all of the above" and "how agents treat me."

Identity Theft Review Website Collects More Than 100 Real Customer Reviews

BestIDTheftCompanys.com becomes the number one source for user reviews on identity theft companies

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/13/2014 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) has more customer reviews and ranked identity theft companies than any other review site.

Currently, BIDTC has 86 companies rated and 130 real customer reviews, and both numbers are growing every day.

BestIDTheftCompanys.com values customers' opinions and hold it to be one of the most important factors when ranking a company. The average score of user reviews for a company reflects approximately 15 percent of a company's overall score.

Each company or service has a user review section where current or past customers can comment, rate and review their experience. BIDTC strictly moderates each consumer review that is submitted so that visitors get the facts from a trusted source of real, verified customers.

User reviews prove to have a big impact on how companies are ranked on BIDTC as they score as high as a 9.7 in user reviews and others can score as low as 0.5 in user reviews.

Customers can find honest comments that praise a company and recommend their service or reflect on a troublesome experience with a company.

"I subscribed to LifeLock after I learned that somebody used my credit card and bought things on the Internet maybe six years ago," said BIDTC user Cindy. "[I] really like the alerts I get from [LifeLock] periodically via email informing me whether my information has been compromised or not. I also receive phone calls when there are unknown suspicious activity."

Other comments may not be in favor of a company, but sheds some light on their frustrating experience.

"The problem I have with Equifax is trying to get a hold of someone you can understand," said BIDTC user Anita. "This makes me very nervous that all these people on the other side of the world have my Social Security number and personal information."

BestIDTheftCompanys.com Analyzes Consumers' Reason to Sign Up for Identity Theft Protection

Identity theft site finds what kind of people are purchasing identity theft protection and why

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/23/2014 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) asked people across the United States, "When would you most consider purchasing identity theft protection?" Responses weren't too dramatic, but the analysis of demographics was surprising.

According to BIDTC's analytics and trends, their team found two main reasons why people are signing up for identity theft protection today. When there is news of a big data breach and/or identity theft is a highlight in the news then the need for protection spikes up.

People specifically from the ages of 35 to 40 years old seem to be most compelled to purchasing identity theft protection if there were potentially affected by a data breach and if identity theft was constantly in the news.

Interesting insights were also found in people with different income levels. People with an income lower than $25,000/year would most likely sign up for protection if identity theft were constantly in the news, which is well before anything is likely to happen. People with a lower income seem to be more willing to take early action so their chances of being victimized are minimal.

The response "If I was potentially affected by a data breach" was significantly chosen more by people who fell within $25,000 to $50,000/year of income. The BIDTC team classified this response as having a bigger chance of being a victim of identity theft. The person is not completely safe, but still has a chance to do something to minimize the risk.

The most interesting of the responses comes from people who make more than $75,000 a year. The only time they would consider purchasing identity theft protection is if someone stole and used their credit card info and if they suspected that their identity was illegally being used. This really means that people with above-average income will only do something if they are already a victim of identity theft.

"Our top ranked identity theft protection companies like LifeLock, Experian and Identity Guard have proven to have services in place that can help protect and resolve all of these possible situations for their customers," said BestIDTheftCompanys.com website manager, Amber Newby.

Three main response from the "Other" category include:
- I already have identity protection
- If my friends or family was affected by identity theft
- If I lost my wallet

New Data Reflects Approximate Ratio of Identity Theft Victims to American Population

BestIDTheftCompanys.com finds which types of identity theft is most common among people

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/14/2014 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) finds approximate ratios of identity theft victims to non-victims within different types of identity fraud. From a pool of more than 1,000 random respondents, about 30 percent of Americans have been a victim of at least one type of identity theft.

Data shows that the other 70 percent of people have not experienced any form of identity fraud. Breakdown of results are as follows to the question, "What personal/financial information have you had compromised or stolen?"

-My credit card – 17.2%
-My taxes – 2.6%
-My child's Social Security number – 1.8%
-Medical or insurance information – 1.7%
-Other – 6.9%
-None of the above – 69.8%

Most people experience compromised credit or debit cards because essentially, most thieves and hackers aim for money in the end. Luckily, many financial institutions already have policies in place to refund lost money due to fraud.

"We recommend that people place only an essential amount of money in their checking accounts and put the rest in a savings account," said website manager Amber Newby. "The reason for this is that some banks and credit unions will not refund stolen money from a debit card, and will only do so for stolen money on credit cards."

The ratio from the survey data can be applied to the current American population. This means that more than 95 million people in the States will fall as a victim to identity theft, and that 30 percent all of a sudden seems a lot bigger.

"These numbers similarly reflect real life, even though the majority of the people don't experience identity theft at all, there is that other 30 percent that unfortunately do experience the seriousness of it," Newby said.

The "Other" category fits all other types of identity fraud such as criminal identity theft, voter fraud, stolen email or social media login and passwords, employment theft, family fraud, and more.

Demographic analysis breakdown shows a few main points:

-People between the ages of 18 and 24 years old experienced more identity theft with their child's Social Security Number
-Those who have experienced more tax fraud are those who are also between the ages of 18 and 24, as well as people who make more than $100,000 a year.

New Survey Results Show Americans Don't Care About Data Breaches

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/08/2014 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) recently released new survey results showing how Americans respond to news of major data breaches such as Target, Neiman Marcus and Sally Beauty.

More than 1,000 random surveyors answered the question, "How would you respond to a data breach that you may have been affected by?"

Results are as follows:
- 39.1% - Wait to see if I actually need to worry about it
- 36.3% - Ignore it, doubt the data breach will affect me
- 16.1% - Sign up for identity theft protection
- 5.60% - Sign up for another type of protection
- 3.00% - Other

BestIDTheftCompanys.com's analysis of the survey showed that the majority of surveyors who chose the proactive choices ("Sign up for identity theft protection" or "Sign up for another type of protection") fit into two specific demographics. People who were more likely to sign up for some form of protection were 45 years old and older and people who made more than $100,000 a year.

"We assume that people who are older and people who make more than $100,000 a year typically have one thing in common--they have more assets," said website manager Amber Newby. "Because they have more assets, they have more to lose if they were victims of data breaches."

The other part of the data shows that approximately 75 percent of consumers would not take immediate action to a data breach. Half of those people would completely ignore it and the other half would wait to see if they actually needed to worry about it.

"A little more than one third of respondents would ignore the data breach. Those are the type of people identity thieves and hackers are looking for!" said Newby.

Newby also forecasted other problems that data breaches could cause. She said the lack of people not signing up for protection is a major concern not only for the individuals, but also for the companies that encounter the data breaches. If their customers ignore the breach warnings and end up having identity or financial fraud occur, then the upset customer will go to the responsible company to fix their problems.

This will add more stress to the company, which will in turn lower their reputation and credibility in the customer's eyes, which could potentially decrease company sales. Companies that face data breach issues should emphasize the importance of protection like Target and Neiman Marcus have by allowing free accounts with an identity theft protection company like Experian's ProtectMyID.

The few respondents who chose the last option "other" were asked to fill in their own response. Some of the more popular answers include:
- Cancel my credit card(s)
- Contact my bank or financial institution
- Keep a close eye on my bank statements
- Already have appropriate protection

BestIDTheftCompanys.com Responds to Tax Identity Theft Investigations

Review site now provides free resources to consumers during height of tax identity theft

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/19/2014 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) focuses its efforts on providing educational resources and the best identity theft protection services to consumers during tax season.

In recent news, the IRS announced a 66 percent increase in tax identity theft investigations. The U.S. Government Accountability Office said that the IRS does not have a complete picture of reason for the rise of tax identity fraud; therefore they are unable to completely resolve the problem with it.

Due to the lack of understanding on how the fraud is occurring and evolving, citizens are seeing an increase in identity theft.

Last year, within the first six months, 1.6 million taxpayers were reported to have been affected by identity theft.

"Tax related identity theft is reaching nightmarish and epidemic proportions." Said BIDTC's identity theft expert Robert Siciliano. "[People need to] heed to certain precautions in order to minimize the risk of becoming a tax identity theft victim."

Even though identity theft can't be 100 percent prevented, BestIDTheftCompanys.com provides all safeguards to make sure your identity and taxes are not compromised.

Identity fraud that affects federal documents such as your Social Security number and taxes can take months to fix. All professionals, experts and authorities in the industry recommend that consumers take extra precautions during the tax season so they don't regret the potential consequences.

The BIDTC team has already answered all basic questions regarding identity theft during the tax season:

-How can you protect yourself from tax identity theft?
-How does tax identity theft happen?
-How can you avoid the risk of becoming a victim of tax identity theft?
-How do you know if you've become a victim to tax identity theft?
-What can you do to fix your taxes if you've become of victim to tax identity theft?

People can find the answers to the above questions in BIDTC blogs, resource center articles and news articles.
New Survey Finds Consumers Look to Banks for Identity Protection Services Too

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/10/2014 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) finds consumers considering two different resources for identity protection amid the season of data breaches and identity fraud.

More than 1,000 surveyors responded to the national survey question: Where would you most likely purchase identity protection? The results showed a little more than one-third of the respondents (36.4 percent) would go to a specialized identity theft protection company, such as LifeLock and Identity Guard. Approximately another one-third of surveyors chose to go to their current banking or credit card company (Wells Fargo, Chase, VISA, etc.) for that same protection.

According to the BIDTC review team's research, financial institutions like banks, credit unions and credit card companies offer a fraction of what specialized identity theft protection companies do.

"Consumers will find that most financial institutions only provide some form of insurance with minimal identity protection services," said BestIDTheftCompanys.com's website manager John Toolson. "On the other hand, identity theft protection companies provide full services for identity protection, monitoring, resolution, insurance, tools and more."

BestIDTheftCompanys.com's highest ranked financial institution earns a 4.6 out of 10, where the highest ranked identity protection company displays a 9.5 out of 10.

"We want to people to know that purchasing the right identity protection service can make a big difference," said Toolson. "Financial institutions typically don't provide the extent of protection you need in an event of a major data breach like Target or Neiman Marcus."

The BIDTC review team encourages consumers and data breach victims to learn about identity theft protection. Their team has already done the hard work and provides the most important information people should look for in identity protection. With the assistance of BIDTC, all consumers have to do is sign up at their convenience and leave a review (if they wish) to help with the accuracy of each review.

BestIDTheftCompanys.com finds, reviews and ranks all identity theft protection companies in the industry. The BIDTC team scrutinizes all features before appropriately ranking them, making it easy for consumers to choose the best product.

BestIDTheftCompanys.com Reviews and Ranks Target's Temporary Solution for Their Data Breach Victims

Target offers free credit monitoring instead of identity theft protection

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/21/2014 -- BestIDTheftCompanys.com (BIDTC) has reviewed and ranked Experian's ProtectMyID, which was chosen by Target to give their 70 million data breach victims one year of free credit monitoring.

Target customers recently received a mass email from Target's President and CEO. Part of the letter read, "Target is offering one year of free credit monitoring to all Target guests who shopped in U.S. stores, through Experian's® ProtectMyID® product which includes identity theft insurance where available."

The BIDTC review team found that even though Experian's ProtectMyID is a well-known brand, their features are limited to what data breach victims need in order to stay clear of becoming identity theft victims. The ProtectMyID plan that is pre-picked for Target customers only includes credit alerts, change of address alerts, credit reports and scores and insurance.

ProtectMyID's pre-chosen plan for Target customers lacks comprehensive identity protection and detection that other identity theft protection companies like LifeLock can provide.

"In the event [of a breach], read very carefully any notification of a data security breach and don't assume that the breach was accidental or that identify theft is not likely," said BIDTC's identity theft expert Robert Siciliano. "Use an identity theft protection product. It will scavenge cyberspace for any unauthorized use of personal information."

The current BIDTC review for Experian's ProtectMyID displays a 4.9 out of 10 score with a user score of 2.8. Other identity theft protection companies ranked on BestIDTheftCompanys.com ranks as high as 9.5 for overall and user score.

"Our team provides as much information to data breach victims in order to help them keep protected from identity theft. " said BestIDTheftCompanys.com's website manager John Toolson. "There are multiple ways to protect yourself from the consequences of a data breach and BIDTC is a one-stop-shop for that."

BestIDTheftCompanys.com researches, reviews and ranks all identity theft protection companies in the industry. The BIDTC team analyzes all features before appropriately ranking them, making it easy for consumers to choose the best product for them and their families. BestIDTheftCompanys.com also invites real customers to leave reviews concerning their company's identity theft services.
"Use an identity theft protection product. It will scavenge cyberspace for any unauthorized use of personal information such as from your credit cards and Social Security number," said BIDTC's identity theft expert Robert Siciliano. "Identity theft protection will keep track of personal credit information, and it will send an alert if suspicious activity is detected—maybe even prior to you receiving a consumer notification."
