States with the Most Trucking Jobs in 2014-2015

Best paying trucking jobs in these locations

Tuscaloosa, AL -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/17/2014 -- The need for truckers is estimated to grow by 11% between now and 2022, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. With over 1.7 million truckers already on the highways, this equates to roughly 200,000 new jobs in the next 10 years. The trucking industry will grow at a similar rate to other industries. As the economy continues to grow, so will the need for truckers. The American Trucking Association (ATA) projects growth in the overall freight industry. However, the projections see trucking as the dominant method of freight transportation. In fact, the average revenues will increase 72% by 2015, and total freight tonnage will increase 23.5% during the same time period.

What does that mean when considering trucking for a living? It means that odds are good about having a long career in trucking. However, there are some states where the need is greater than others. This article lists the states with the most trucking jobs in the current economy.

The following 10 states have the most active trucking firms:

1. Ohio 155 companies
2. Illinois 149 companies
3. Indiana 146 companies
4. Pennsylvania 139 companies
5. Tennessee 135 companies
6. Georgia 131 companies
7. Texas 130 companies
8. Kentucky 129 companies
9. Michigan 121 companies
10. North Carolina 120 companies

The nation's largest trucking employers include United Parcel Service (UPS), FedEx, Schneider, Yellow Transportation and Roadway. UPS, based in Georgia delivers over 15 million packages daily to approximately six million customers. Its closest competitor, FedEx employs over 70,000 people throughout the United States.

Schneider, based in Wisconsin, is the largest privately owned freight firm in the U.S. The company delivers to nearly two-thirds of the Fortune 500. On any given day, Schneider travels over five million miles. Yellow Freight, based in Kansas, is one of the largest shippers in the United States. It is also the fastest growing freight company.

Because of the growth potential in trucking, it may be feasible to relocate to one of the states with the most trucking jobs. Of course this approach carries with it a certain level of uncertainty. However, if a job in trucking is in the future, and one lives in a state with fewer opportunities, relocation may be the best option. if that is the case, consider firms that are located in the states with the most trucking companies.

It is reported that Walmart is the highest paying employer for truckers, providing a salary average over $70,000 per year. Specialty drivers, such as ice road or mining drivers are the highest paid trucking occupation. The highest paying states include: Mississippi ($68,000); Wyoming ($61,000); and New York ($60,000). There are a number of factors to consider when searching for a trucking job. Location, salary, benefits and perks must be considered as well.

Imposed Gas Tax Affecting the Trucking Industry

Bipartisan bill could raise the Federal Gas Tax by 12 cents over the next two years

Tuscaloosa, AL -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/20/2014 -- Recently, Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) introduced a bipartisan bill that would raise the Federal Gas Tax by 12 cents over the next two years. This would raise the prices at the gas pump, however many see it as a more equitable way to fix the nation's transportation problems. The money raised would be used to repair and replace aging, obsolete infrastructure, as well as replenish the Highway Trust Fund.

This could benefit certain areas of the country, especially the Northeast, which sees the highest road use in the country and a harsh winter climate that destroys the asphalt each winter. Local taxes and tolls are mostly used to try and bridge the gap between the expensive and/or necessary road repairs.

In the Midwest, it is a different story. Better, maintained roads are needed, but the region does not have the local population to pay for them. Kansas and Nebraska needs to almost completely rely on the money needed to come from out of state.

The gas tax has not been raised since 1993, as Congress has been reluctant to increase it for fear of a voter backlash, however, the proposed bill to raise it has been endorsed by the AAA and has the approval from the Owner Operator Independent Driver's Association (OODIA) and other key players in the carrier industry.

However, considering the improvements made to passenger cars in the past 20 years, motorists are not pumping as much fuel as used to, as later model cars are more fuel efficient. Again, this would put the brunt of this tax increase off to the trucking industry, as the average passenger car gets about 20 miles to the gallon, versus a semi truck, which gets about seven miles to the gallon. The direct cost for the average truck driver depends on how many miles are actually driven and the semi trucks actual average gas mileage.

While almost all within the trucking industry can understand the growing problems with the nation's highway system and do not want to pay more for diesel fuel, most prefer a fuel tax to an increase in tolls. The burden of paying tolls falls heavily on truckers than it does passenger cars. Crossing the George Washington Bridge in New York/New Jersey is the prime example. Truckers can expect to pay $100 or more, compared to $13 for a passenger car.

Regardless of whether the Federal Gas Tax sees an increase, for the first time in 20 years, or the tolls on bridges and highways are increased nationwide, it is certain that the increase in the cost of transporting goods to retail outlets and supermarkets will pass the cost of delivering the goods along to the consumers.

Trucker Shortage Jobs in Trucking Go Unfilled

New job opportunities due to truck driver shortages

Tuscaloosa, AL -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/15/2014 -- Truck driving jobs are going into a decline. The positions are just not getting filled anymore. This is a bad thing in many ways.

Longer Deliveries

Having a shortage on truck drivers leads to longer delivery times. Customers are going to end up getting purchases outside the time frame promised, which may also lead to a decline in sales.

Decline in Sales

There will eventually be a decline in sales. Customers are going to do whatever possible to get the product, even if it means not ordering it. Instead of waiting around.

There are numerous companies looking to hire for trucking jobs. The following are advantages of being a truck driver.

The Pay

The pay for being a truck driver is a decent amount of income. The more experience one has is usually the best, and may be able to receive more compensation.

Traveling

Depending on the type of truck driving job, it could be local or national. It's nice to see different scenery and it makes for a relaxing drive to the next destination.

Benefits

The benefits of being a truck driver are extraordinary. With most companies, one will be able to receive a 401K, medical benefits, salary benefits, holiday pay, along with other benefits. Having a job with all of these benefits can be hard to come by. With the trucking industry needing so many employees, this is an opportunity that shouldn't be passed up and can get right in to.

Experience

Some trucking companies will only CDL drivers and can provide training. A trucking job is usually only delivering, so no experience may not matter. With other jobs, one may need 10 + years of experience, so taking on the opportunity to experience a truck driving job is going to be beneficial.

With all of the benefits and how trucking jobs are in demand right now, don't let this opportunity pass. Having thought about this career before but never took the step towards it, right now is the chance to jump on the opportunity. This could be the job that a family has been needing.

Find Cheap Diesel Fuel with Gas Buddy

Tuscaloosa, AL -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/18/2014 -- One of the most difficult parts of being a professional trucker is knowing where to stop for gas. Sure, truckers have favorite spots to stop, but what happens when a trucker's favorite spot is out of order or to far. That's where Gas Buddy comes in.

GasBuddy.com offers great tools for all looking for gas, but it's especially wonderful for truckers making long journeys across the United States. Here are some benefits of Gas Buddy for truckers:

-GasBuddy.com is now available as an app in the Apple iTunes Store or through the Android store. This means that the great information about gas prices is always available through a phone, even if in the middle of a long trucking haul.

-Unlike other apps, Gas Buddy shows the information for diesel fuels, which can sometimes be more difficult to locate.

-For truckers who work as subcontractors, Gas Buddy saves money at the gas pump. This means that at the end of the trip, there is more money in truckers' pockets.

-Gas Buddy's trip planning tool allows users to create more accurate price quotes for customers that reflect the actual gas prices to be encountered on the upcoming trip. Even if the trucker is a member of the staff and isn't concerned with personal cost, Gas Buddy's Trip Cost Calculator tool allows company's to better budget transport costs.

-Gas Buddy allows truckers to anticipate costs, see overall trends in gas prices, and discover rising costs. Aside from being incredibly informational, this information can be pivotal in planning an annual budget.

-Gas Buddy allows truckers to find gas closest and the cost per gallon. It is a great tool to help truckers in a pinch, especially when detours and other road conditions force truckers to take a different route than the one initially planned on taking. It is this ability to make decisions on the go that makes downloading the Gas Buddy app just a smart decision for truckers in any industry. Detours happen. Gas Buddy ensures that personal safety and budget stay in the clear.

-Gas Buddy makes it easy to know if truckers are overpaying for gas. Both the website and the phone application show the average price of gas at each location. This means that with a quick look, truckers can know if overpaying for gas or gotten quite the steal.

-Gas Buddy now even offers gas price information for Canada. This makes Gas Buddy still applicable for truckers crossing into the Canadian border. As Gas Buddy continues to grow, it is possible that more countries will be represented. This will continue to aid truckers who travel long distances and are ever in need of finding gas.

Unemployment Rate Tumbles - Trucking Companies Are Hiring Now

6,800 of the 288,000 jobs in April of 2014 came from the trucking industry

Tuscaloosa, AL -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/14/2014 -- People do not constantly want to be looking for a job. Most people do need gainful employment though since one does require an income in order to survive. Those with a commercial drivers license just might be best primed to land employment when searching for a job. The reason is trucking jobs are growing in abundance. In fact, the number of jobs added to the economy has helped, in part, to bring down the current jobless rate in the United States.

The figures do speak for themselves:

- 6,800 of the 288,000 jobs in April of 2014 came from the trucking industry

- The inclusion of the 6,800 jobs aided in dropping the unemployment rate to 6.3%.

- 6.3% is the lowest unemployment rate since September of 2008.

- 11, 300 jobs in the transportation and warehousing sector were added in April and this sector includes trucking positions.

- For-hire trucking jobs found here in the United States are roughly at 1.4 million total.

The numbers are even more impressive since reflecting an increase over original forecasted figures. Original estimated figures on jobs created were in the range of 218,000. The 288,000 figure does present some optimism about job prospects in certain industries.

Not every industry is automatically going to experience job growth though and the decrease in the unemployment rate does not mean job creation is occurring uniformly across all sectors of the economy. For those involved in the trucking industry, the news is certainly positive. Quite a few factors have contributed to the growth in jobs. The harsh winter is over and this means manufacturing and transportation sectors are back on track to conduct normal operations. The gaining of manufacturing and industrial jobs in the United States in lieu of troubles in these same sectors overseas is another contributing factor.

Clearly, workers who want to enter into the trucking industry can look towards the existing figures optimistically. Truckers who have been working in a trucking capacity for many years also have much to look forward to. The greater the growth in available jobs, the more likely it becomes to find better employment. Better employment can be defined by higher pay, increased benefits, a more preferable travel route, and more.

Of course, the ability to find a job is going to be based on how hard one actually looks for one. As the old saying goes, jobs never come to anyone. Jobs have to be sought out. This does raise questions about where one should look for a job. Among the best resources online is EveryTruckJob. As the name suggests, this is a fantastic resource for trucking industry jobs all across the United States. Through carefully looking over the available jobs and then applying to the ones that are open, eventually landing a job becomes a possibility. The chances of being hired right now may be better than ever. The industry surely is creating new jobs at an amazing pace.

Trucking Industry Jobs to Increase by 2022

Tuscaloosa, AL -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/22/2014 -- The Trucking Industry has seen a fluctuation in the past few years but the future is very bright on the horizon as trucking is considered one of the best jobs of the future. Trucking jobs are projected to increase by almost 200,000 new jobs by 2022.

- Why trucking jobs are expected to increase

As the economy recovers from recession businesses will be moving and thriving and that will bring trucking into the top twenty jobs that will be a thriving career move. Product and services are expected to rise exponentially and this will bring jobs and increased need for over the road drivers to meet these needs.

- Trucking is a needed component to supply and demand

Production is down because of a lethargic economy. However it is expected to pick up because supply and demand are picking up. As trends show at the bureau of labor the fall and rise of supply and demand, it is now showing a serious upward trend towards 2022.

Trucking will continue to stay on top as the main use of transporting goods. It will stay on top as it is the most cost effective means as well. The nation's leaders in the industry are forecasting a tremendous rise in the need for over the road transportation.

- How much will the trucking industry increase?

It is projected by many forecasters that by 2022 trucking will increase by sixty six percent. Tonnage is expected to rise as well and the predicted percentage is twenty four percent. Freight transportation is handled by the Trucking Industry and it is also predicted as the winner in transporting goods over the next few years.

- Driver shortages

Many trucking companies are facing shortages of drivers all over the US. The time is now to get in and get the necessary skills to be in on this rapid rebound of economic growth. Companies are facing a desperate time and are short handed to handle this rise in business demand. Drivers are needed immediately for positions all over the country.

- The forecast is predicting that trucking is in the top twenty best jobs for 2022 and beyond

Trucking companies offer long term security and advantage for employees to get and keep experienced drivers. Training now and becoming an experienced over the road driver is an advantage for people looking for a good career. This is the time to pursue with vigor.

Training and experience are the two factors needed to get in on this economic turn-around for the trucking industry. This is a good career move and it should be considered seriously for long term job security.

How Truck Drivers Are Going Green in 2014

Truck drivers are going green in 2014 mainly due to the high cost of operation

Tuscaloosa, AL -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/20/2014 -- No matter where one goes and what industry one works in, more and more people moving to a greener experience. For truck drivers of vehicles of all sizes and that drive in all types of road conditions this is an especially important move, mainly due to the high cost of operation that these individuals face. Some of the ways that truck drivers are going green in 2014 are highlighted here.

Keep the Engine Tuned Properly
When a vehicle receives a tune up, it can improve the overall fuel efficiency and gas mileage by up to four percent. However, the results that are seen will vary based on the type of vehicle that it is and the kind of repair that is completed. Additionally, the qualities of the repairs will affect the overall performance of the vehicle. An engine tune up and fixing serious maintenance issues, such as an oxygen sensor that is faulty, can improve the mileage by up to 40 percent.

Check and Replace the Trucks Air Filters
When a clogged air filter is replaced it can improve the fuel mileage of the vehicle by up to 10 percent. The air filter is responsible for keeping impurities from causing damage to the insides of the engine. Not only can the replacement of a dirty air filter save on gas, it will also protect the engine.

Ensure Tires are Inflated Properly
Gas mileage can be further improved by up to four percent by ensuring that the tires on the truck are inflated to the ideal pressure. Tires that are under inflated can result in a lower amount of gas mileage. Additionally, tires that are inflated properly are much safer and will last a much longer time.

Use the Proper Type of Motor Oil
Fuel mileage can be improved by using the proper grade of motor oil that has been recommended by the vehicles manufacturer. It is also important to utilize the right type of oil filter. Truck drivers should also seek motor oils that include the "Energy Conserving" label to ensure that it contains additives for friction reduction.

Use Sensible Driving Techniques
If a person drives aggressively, such as speeding and rapid acceleration, it will waste a significant amount of gas. Driving smartly will help to lower the overall gas mileage by up to 33 percent on the highways. Sensible driving also provides much safer roadways providing better driving conditions for everyone.

Making a move toward green driving can also be a substantial amount of money savings. No matter the size of truck that is driven or how often it is driven, using the tips and techniques highlighted here will help reduce costs and expenses related to driving.

American Trucking Association Supports Fuel Tax Hike

New House Bill Proposal

Tuscaloosa, AL -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/19/2014 -- On December 4, 2013, a new House bill proposal was introduced by Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) to the public that would raise federal gasoline tax in an attempt to bring in much needed funding for the nation's decaying and failing infrastructure system. If passed, federal gasoline tax would increase by 15 cents per gallon.

Overtaking Inflation

The federal gasoline tax has not kept pace with the nation's inflation over the years, and has not seen an increase since the year 1993. The federal gas tax revenue flows into the nation's Highway Trust Fund to support the entire infrastructure system – this includes every road, bridge and transit system.

Reasons for the Fuel Tax Hike

The decision for this new bill proposal was based on the Simpson-Bowles report, the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Commission and the National Surface Transportation Financing Commission. Representative Blumenauer has stated that this may be a short-term funding solution and that the United States should later transition to a more stable and long-term funding source for the country's infrastructure system by the year 2024. Fuel tax hikes are expected to be phased in some time in 2014.

Fuel Tax Hike Support

The fuel tax hike was endorsed by AAA and is supported by the American Trucking Association. In fact, the American Trucking Association's President and CEO, Bill Graves, is quoted in a statement as being "very pleased" to support this new bill. Many experts feel that this new legislation is long overdue and that the country is presently in desperate need of funding for an issue that has not been addressed for many years.

It seems that everyone is onboard with the fuel tax hike. The new bill is also supported by the Laborers' International Union of North America, national AFL-CIO, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the construction industry, as well as many professional groups, cyclists, businesses, transit agencies and local governments.

The Highway Trust Fund depends on Washington for half of their funding, but the other half is drawn in through gas taxes. The Federal Highway Administration estimated three years ago that in order to maintain a safe infrastructure, more than $70.9 billion worth of repairs would be needed. And according to The American Society of Civil Engineers, it is estimated that $2.7 trillion is needed by 2020 for infrastructure, which includes transportation.

Representative Blumenauer had a large coalition of support during the December 4th news conference. It is pointed out by Blumenauer that the gas tax burden is now put on those who rely on and use the roadways. Historically, this has been an acceptable policy with Republicans. It was President Ronald Reagan who raised the gas tax price by five cents per gallon back in 1982.

Increase In Pay

With fuel prices increasing, truckers will need to find higher paying jobs. Gasing a truck will now be much more costly. Therefore, wages should increase. Looking for a new or better job with truck drivers transitioning is well under way. A highly recommended resource for tracers on the hunt for a new job is EveryTruckJob.

2014 Poll: What Drives Trucker's to Find New Jobs

Recent poll confirms ‘pay’ as top motive

Tuscaloosa, AL -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/30/2014 -- All truck driving jobs have benefits amongst other jobs, but sometimes the idiosyncrasies can drive people insane, making driver's want to look for new employment. This is especially true when the promises made initially are not kept or when pay is affected. There are many reasons why employees would be driven to find a new job, but the most common ones involve long waits to unload, poorly maintained trucks, not enough time at home, and unexpected variations in pay.

Job Security
When these instances occur drivers may feel job security is at risk. It may seem like employees are being cheated after carrying out the duties of the job. Sometimes these things can't be avoided and mistakes are inevitable; but when it occurs on a consistent basis, it may be time to reconsider whether to continue or truck on.

Poll Results
According to a national EveryTruckJob.com poll, over 1,000 truckers were asked "What drives you nuts enough to look for a new job?" Not surprisingly, salary issues came in at 24.78% ranking this ongoing issue at the top of the list. Coming in at a very close second stealing 23.89% of the votes, is unpredictability or little home time. Long waits to unload, mechanical issues and unavailable dispatching came in at the third, fourth and fifth important issues in the trucking industry, respectively. According to drivers comments "not enough miles", "no communication" and "poor paying loads" are also major concerns which compel truckers to search for another job.

Long Waits to Unload/Salary Issues

Long waits can also put a damper on the job. Waiting to unload means not being paid and the longer the waiting time, the more money is lost. Above all, not knowing when one will be home is probably the biggest reason why truck drivers look for new jobs. The road is long and hard and nothing can help relieve the stress and exhaustion from driving like a weekend at home with the family.

Maintenance
Many reputable companies pay special attention to the maintenance of trucks, because it is in essence the factor that will determine income. Because of this, it is in best interests to keep trucks in top shape, an investment that can shorten down times and breakdowns on the road.

Mechanical Issues
When a company does not invest any time and money into trucks, mechanical issues are brought to the forefront enabling engine failure and unsafe vehicles. This alone is enough to force anybody out of the business, looking for a new career.

Lies?
After reading comments from poll takers, it has been concluded that many drivers claim that dispatchers tend to "lie" while giving information regarding the load. While doing further research, a forum from Expeditersonline.com discussed that the majority of dispatchers don't generally lie, but tend to omit certain information which comes off as a lie. One post stated that "…they'll lie to you if it gets them to the resolution of the problem quicker, but for the most part there's nothing for dispatchers to lie about, no reason to." Another post gave an example of a lie by omission stating, "I have this great load going from Chicago to Los Angeles, do ya want it?" and might forget to say, "Oh yeah, the load doesn't pick up until 4 days from now and delivers the week after next." There is a "…load that is going to make the company money and they need to get it covered."

Bottom line, errors happen, time is lost and unpredictability is a given. The best bet is to go out and find a different truck driving job, which can provide the satisfaction and peace of mind a well run company can give. When being alone on the road the only things to depend on are sanity and a great truck to drive.

Whats Driving Truck Drivers to Look for a New Job?

A poll by www.everytruckjob.com attempts to get deeper insights into the challenges faced by truck drivers

Tuscaloosa, AL -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/20/2013 -- Truck drivers in America are under a lot of stress and do switch jobs quite often. A poll by http://www.everytruckjob.com attempts to get deeper insights into the challenges faced by truck drivers. Good truck drivers are hard to find and businesses need to know about the challenges truck drivers face in order to provide them better facilities and keep employees glued to their jobs.

Hard Work
The work load is pretty high and drivers get very few hours of rest after a long drive of more than ten hours. Truck drivers stay away from home most of the time and are not able to spend enough time with their family. These are some of the reasons that make the job of truck driving more stressful and far less fascinating than it appears in the beginning.

Patience Is Key
Now is the age of instant gratification. Anyone can get whatever is needed without going anywhere simply through a few clicks. Being born and brought up in such an environment, the truck drivers' job requires a lot of patience. The traffic on roads is unpredictable and one cannot make any plans in advance. A lot of time is consumed in loading and unloading the truck and the driver has to be present during these processes. This can be very irritating for some drivers by waiting and have nothing else to do during this time.

Cutting Down On Time
If the truck is not maintained well, it also puts the driver under stress because the driver is the one who has to face the consequences. Similarly, lack of directions from the dispatcher also causes problems because truck drivers have to take longer routes and spend more time driving. With a better dispatching system, drivers can take shorter routes and reach home quicker and more often.

Place Your Vote
This poll is a great effort by Everytruckjob to bring the problems faced by truck drivers into light. Greater the number of truck drivers voting on the poll here, the better and more efficient the results are going to be. It is important for truck drivers to understand each other's pain and take a simple step like voting on this poll for each others benefit. Once the results are out, attention can be given to the issues at hand and a solution can be reached.

Every responsible truck driver who has either changed a job or thought about quitting their job must vote on this poll. It will not only help them but the entire truck driving community.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

mark reidenbach
Telephone: 866-383-7956
Email: Click to Email mark reidenbach
Web: http://www.everytruckjob.com/

"EveryTruckJob's professional truck drivers were polled on their healthy eating habits as they spend significant time on the road," said CEO Mark Reidenbach of EveryTruckJob.com.
Many people visit different fast food restaurants every year, especially when traveling the highways, and having a healthy eating choice is very important. Americans want to eat healthier with food choices such as nutritious salads, healthy soups, and calorie counting desserts. As Americans are becoming more health conscious, corporate restaurants are trying to provide a healthy alternative to fatty foods usually found on fast food restaurant menus. Advertising is one of the main ways to get the word out about new healthy eating options.

An example of a great weight loss story comes from the winner. Subway created an advertising campaign around a customer named Jared from Cincinnati, Ohio. Jared lost a tremendous amount of weight by eating healthy sub sandwiches purchased from Subway, and became famous because of this. There is even a "Subway Diet" that offers seven different Subway sandwiches with each of them having less than seven grams of fat.

Subway is leading the way in marketing healthy selections in the fast food industry, but every major fast food chain is making strides in offering these selections in their fast food restaurants as well. The Food and Drug Administration is encouraging restaurants to provide healthier food options for customers, even requiring them to post calorie counts and fat content on menu boards.

Healthy meals are available at every restaurant; Americans simply need to make better choices. There is no problem with eating at McDonald's from time to time but opt for the low fat/low calorie food items, which will result in a healthier person!
