Originally from North Carolina and New York, Erik says, "I grew up listening to all types of music and absorbing various art forms, I definitely have many influences from Sly Stone, Prince, Michael Franks, Roberta Flack, but more importantly for me are musical genres and not so much particular artists. I'd say soul, jazz, various forms of rock, reggae, gospel, blues and anything soulful with a positive energy touched and motivated me very early on in my development. My first musical purchase was the 7 inch of "One Nation Under A Groove" (Parliament/ Funkadelic) and indeed it made a lasting impression on who I am musically and my overall artistic outlook, it really spoke to creative freedom."

With the emergence of new technology, Erik Rico would release his first full length album "Journey Back To Me" followed by tour dates in Europe, Asia and the U.S., resulting in collaborations with artist: Marc Mac (4 Hero), DJ Spinna, Groveman Spot, Ron Trent, and Opolpopo to name a few.

In a program sponsored by the US State Department's Performance Arts Initiative, Erik would tour the Middle East and Southeast Asia promoting positive examples of African American artist to the international community.

Recognizing the trend in social media and emerging mobile technology, Erik founded, LifeNotes Music, to establish his own platform for releasing and promoting music globally, regardless of genre, operating without physical boundaries or compromise. Looking to reconnect with a grass roots level of music, Erik relocated to Austin Texas, eager to contribute to their highly regarded live music scene and creative community.
