Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists Shares Important Information Regarding IVF Success Rates

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/06/2015 -- Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists, an award-winning fertility clinic based outside of Philadelphia, frequently shares enlightening information about reproductive technology with its patients, in keeping with its patient-centered philosophy. Recently, the clinic shared information regarding a recent report on the success rates of in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments that used fresh embryos versus those that used frozen ones.

The report, released on MDLinx on September 17, 2015, gathers information from the Assisted Reproductive Technology in Australia and New Zealand 2013 report, which was assembled by the University of New South Wales' National Perinatal Epidemiology and Statistics Unit. The report compared the use and success rates of fresh versus frozen embryos for in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments from 2009 to 2013.

During this time period, success rates for IVF using fresh embryos consistently stayed at 23%. However, during the same time period, the success rates of IVF using frozen embryos improved considerably, rising from 18% to 23%. Furthermore, the use of frozen embryos in IVF saw a significant increase; in 2009, 39% of IVF treatments used frozen embryos, whereas, in 2013, 45% of IVF treatments used frozen embryos. The increase in usage and improvement in success rates is attributed to refinement of rapid freezing techniques.

Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists welcomes the information gathered in the report. Frozen embryos allow for greater reproductive flexibility for women who are struggling with infertility. The improved success rates in IVF treatments that use frozen embryos demonstrate that IVF technology continues to offer women more fertility options.

Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists provides women with multiple options, including artificial insemination, in its Philadelphia-area facility.

Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists Shares Hopeful News for Future of Fertility Treatment

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/31/2015 -- Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists, routinely recognized as one of the leading fertility clinics in the Philadelphia area, regularly shares information with their patients to better educate them on fertility science and developments in the field. Recently, the clinic shared a Medical Daily article, which reported on a study that details promising developments in the field of genetic research for infertility treatment.

The August 10, 2015, article entitled, "Genetics May Be Underlying Cause of Infertility; New Technology Identifies Genetic Diseases," and written by Stephanie Castillo, reported on a study by Priti Singh and Dr. John C. Schimenti that appeared in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. According to the authors, infertility (which affects about 15% of couples who are of childbearing age) has a genetic basis in nearly one half of all cases.

However, the specific gene mutations that may cause infertility are as yet unknown, since the traditional methods used to study inheritance do not translate well to studying reproductive processes due to the complexity thereof. Singh and Dr. Schimenti have developed their own strategy to identify gene mutations that may cause infertility. Future research using their method may lead to gene identifications that in turn lead to greater success rates for infertility treatment.

These future developments may lead to more precise diagnosis of fertility issues in patients at Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists. The clinic already has an IVF success rate in Philadelphia that is well above the national average for women under 35, with a 74% rate of live birth after infertility treatment.

The clinic is also known for warm, attentive and caring treatment for each individual patient, and Dr. Annette Lee earned a 2014 Top Doctors Award for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility from Castle Connolly.
New Method of Analyzing Embryos May Boost Success at Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/29/2015 -- According to a July 8, 2015, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology News article entitled, "Faster Identification of 'Best' Embryos May Boost IVF Success," researchers at Igenomix, Oregon Health & Science University, Stanford University and the University of Valencia have jointly found that a new form of analysis may lead to quicker and more precise identification of embryos suitable for implantation in IVF procedures. Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists, one of the leading fertility clinics in the Philadelphia area, welcomes this news as a potential sign of higher IVF success rates in the future.

Embryos created specifically for IVF have a high rate of chromosomal abnormality—as many as four out of five are not viable for pregnancy and result in miscarriage. Typically, abnormal embryos cannot be identified until five or six days after being created. This poses a problem for fertility doctors because embryos must be implanted three to five days after being created, thus making it difficult to identify abnormal embryos.

However, the new method deployed by researchers may allow for a speedier identification of chromosomally abnormal embryos. Using advances in cell imaging and genetic profiling, the researchers, who published their findings in the journal New Communications on July 7, 2015, found that observing the embryo during the period between fertilization and the eight-cell stage enabled them to accurately predict the chromosomal normality or abnormality of each embryo.

Although more research is needed to clear this method for clinical use, Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists hope that this news will eventually lead to more accurate identification of healthy embryos in regular clinical practices, further enabling them to provide the best fertility care and IVF in the Philadelphia area. The clinic already has a significantly high success rate, with 74% of patients under 35 carrying pregnancies to term.

Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists Caution Against Fertility Scams

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/25/2015 -- A recent About Health article written by fertility expert Rachel Gurevich explains why many offers that purport to sell miracle fertility drugs are exploitative scams. Even when well-intentioned sellers of off-market prescription drugs might not be as reliable as they claim to be. Purchasing these drugs or treatments puts patients' wallets and health at risk. Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists, a clinic offering IVF in Philadelphia, supports Gurevich's cautionary statements and urges its patients to make sure that they obtain fertility treatments only from reputable doctors

Gurevich writes in depth about several warning signs of fertility treatment scams. Scams that promise instant results or, indeed, guarantee results at all should be avoided. "[N]ot even the very best fertility clinic in the world, with the very best technology and limitless amounts of money…can guarantee you'll get pregnant," writes Gurevich.

Similarly, unusually low prices are also a warning sign, as are vague claims about ingredients or medications being backed by "research" without citing said research. Gurevich also advises against buying into aggressive sales tactics. Most purported vendors of "miracle" fertility drugs who use these tactics are scam artists who prey on the hopelessness or vulnerability of women struggling with infertility.

Furthermore, Gurevich writes that no one should purchase third-party fertility drugs from women with leftover medication. The drugs might be ineffective or dangerous. Gurevich also warns that some disreputable fertility clinics will sell leftover medication, as well. However, a reputable fertility clinic will write patients their own prescription of the appropriate medication after careful consultation and analysis of their individual physical needs.

At Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists, patients will find only reputable fertility doctors in the Philadelphia-area clinic. The clinic's attentive patient care and high pregnancy success rate can assuage fertility issues more than online scams can.
Hormone May Improve Infertility Treatments at Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/11/2015 -- As reported by Independent Online, British researchers have identified a human hormone that could be a boon to women who are struggling with infertility. As scientists continue to investigate the effects of the hormone on fertility and IVF treatments, their discoveries could lead directly to higher success rates. Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists, a fertility clinic in Philadelphia, provides in vitro fertilization and other treatments to women who are struggling with an inability to conceive or carry a pregnancy to term.

The hormone in question is called kisspeptin. According to the Independent Online article, published in May 2015, scientists believe that it may be the catalyst for the production of gonadotropin-releasing hormone. In turn, gonadotropin-releasing hormone boosts the production of two hormones that stimulate ovulation in women and sperm production in men.

Kisspeptin's possible role in human fertility is further evidenced by a 2014 study by Imperial College London, which compared blood levels of kisspeptin in women who successfully carried pregnancies to term and women who miscarried. In women who miscarried, levels of kisspeptin were 60% lower than those found in women who carried their pregnancies to term. Furthermore, kisspeptin may reduce the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, a serious condition that sometimes occurs in women undergoing IVF treatments.

Independent Online reports that kisspeptin is currently the subject of several ongoing clinical trials. The results gathered by researchers may give the doctors at Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists a better understanding of if and how they can use kisspeptin in fertility treatments. The clinic already has a rate of 74% successful pregnancies in women under 35, one of the highest success rates in the nation. Their patients come to the clinic when they want a fertility doctor in Philadelphia who will provide safe, attentive and successful fertility care.

IVF Test May Lead Directly to Increased Success at Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/22/2015 -- Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists of Philadelphia have already helped thousands of couples conceive, earning them one of the highest IVF success rates out of all fertility doctors in the Philadelphia area. Dr. Annette Lee and her team are always looking for ways to improve results for their patients. Recently, research in Europe has led to the development of a test, now in its initial stages, for optimal fertility treatment timing.

According to a Guardian.com article by Hannah Devlin, the test, which was developed by a team of scientists in Madrid, uses a new method to more accurately determine the best time for IVF treatment to occur. The scientists who developed the test believe that "so called unexplained IVF failure" is often due to normal embryos being transferred to the womb at the wrong time, resulting in a failure to implant. Dr. Geeta Nargund, medical director of Create Fertility in London, was quoted in the article as saying that prior to the development of this test, the correct window of implantation was a mystery to fertility doctors.

However, the test developed by Professor Juan Garcia-Velasco and his team may shed some light on the best window of opportunity for fertility treatment. The test monitors the activity of genes in the uterine lining to identify the optimum time for fertility treatment. In initial studies, this method improved success rates significantly: out of 85 women with an average of five unsuccessful IVF treatments each, 33% had a successful implantation. In the test's next phase, Professor Garcia-Velasco will lead a clinical trial with over 25,000 patients.

Dr. Nargund believes that the test is a "breakthrough." The team at Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists already has a consistently high IVF implantation rate, and may be able to raise their percentage of implantations higher with technology like the gene analysis test. To keep up with news about new IVF technology or to find a fertility doctor in Philadelphia, visit the Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists website.

Discovery May Lead Directly to Increased IVF Success at Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/16/2015 -- A recent study reveals that researchers have discovered a possible cause of in vitro fertilization implantation failure. The study, published in the Journal of Cell Science, was conducted by scientists at the University of Manchester's Institute of Human Development. According to the study, it possible that microRNA molecule levels can affect the implantation rate of embryos during IVF procedures. Study results like these may directly lead to improved technology and increased success rates at Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists, an IVF clinic near Philadelphia.

Such news is worth celebrating to patients in the care of Dr. Annette Lee of Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists. Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists is already one of the most successful fertility clinics in the Philadelphia area, with a 74% rate of pregnancy per IVF treatment in patients under age 35, well above the worldwide average of 32% put forth in the study. However, the clinic is determined to continue to increase its success rate and end infertility woes for its patients.

In-vitro fertilization is a delicate process. First, eggs and sperm cells are collected in minimally invasive procedures, and then combined in a laboratory environment conducive to fertilization. Once the eggs have been fertilized, the embryos are gently transferred to the uterus. While Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists have a high rate of success, IVF is not yet a perfect process, and frustrating failures still occur. However, The University of Manchester study sheds new light on the process, resulting in information that may later be used to improve IVF technology.

The study suggests that the molecule called microRNA, or miRNA, inhibits another molecule called insulin-like growth factor receptor 1, or IGFR1. According to Professor John Aplin, who co-wrote the study, it is possible that IGFR1 must be present in order for the embryo to successfully implant in the uterus. Previously, this was completely unknown information.

Discoveries like this one are a boon to Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists and its patients. An increasingly comprehensive understanding of the implantation process and its deterrents can lead to new fertility technology in the future, which may later be utilized by the experienced fertility doctors at the Philadelphia area clinic.

Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists Announces Enrollment for a 3 IVF Clinical Trial Is Ending Soon

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/05/2015 -- Everyone deserves the opportunity to have a child. Unfortunately, around 15% of couples face an uphill battle and have difficulty conceiving. Helping further in vitro fertilization research, Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists has announced that enrollment for their 3 IVF clinical trial coming to an end. The study is being conducted to test a new follicle stimulating hormone treatment in order to compare it to a similar treatment that has been approved in America called Gonal-f.

The study drug of the new treatment, which is called AFOLIA, is provided to all participants free of charge. Along with receiving the study drug at no cost, the IVF procedure is offered at a lower rate. Patients will participate for approximately 14 weeks per cycle. Women taking part in the study will need to visit the IVF clinic in Philadelphia on a consistent basis for a variety of procedures. During these visits, they will have blood drawn and ultrasounds taken. They will also receive self-injected medications and have the eggs removed in preparation for the embryo transfer.

Those interested in becoming part of the clinical trial need to meet several qualifying measures. All participants must be between 35 and 42 years old and are required to have both ovaries. They also need to be in good clinical heath and experience regular menstrual cramps. The applicant must be trying to conceive and previously been told that the only way they can have a child is through in vitro fertilization. During the study, they will be examining the outcome of clinical pregnancies and searching for signs of immunogenicity and local and systematic adverse events.

Those interested in becoming a participant of the trial must enroll quickly as they will soon stop taking applications. Woman can learn more about the testing and speak with a fertility doctor in Philadelphia by visiting the Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists website or calling 215-822-8400.

Major Corporations Now Cover Cryopreservation Conducted by Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/08/2014 -- Companies like Facebook and Apple always seem to be at the forefront of not only their respected industries, but also at the forefront of new business practices. In their latest workplace revolution, these companies are now covering cryopreservation for women, a service conducted at Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists. This coverage has created a controversy between those in support of it and those who see it as a way of encouraging women to put off pregnancy.

While egg freezing does allow women to save healthy eggs until later in life, it does seem like a stretch to say companies are offering the coverage with the intent of getting extended value from female employees. Is it such a radical idea that big business cares about the overall well-being of its employees? The doctors at Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists, a leader in fertility clinics in Philadelphia, think not.

For many women, the procedure on average will cost $10,000-$12,000 and be too expensive for them to afford. With companies' healthcare covering the costs, more women would be interested in working for a business that has all aspects of women's health in mind.

There are a variety of reasons a woman may want or require egg freezing such as cancer treatment that may damage the egg supply or they want to find the right partner to join them in raising a child. Whatever the reason, it is a more than generous offering from these companies. It has the potential to become an industry standard if it can withstand the backlash from those who find it to be insulting to women.

Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists Now Offering Financial Aid Programs for Affordable Fertility Treatment

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/14/2014 -- Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists is now offering a financial aid programs to help patients pay for fertility treatments. EMD Serono and Merck, the manufactures of fertility medications and have created programs that make treatment more affordable. To qualify, patients must have no insurance coverage for fertility medication, be currently undergoing fertility treatment with a qualified specialist, and possess US citizenship or permanent residency. Patients must meet the qualifying household income and not have received medications through the program in the past.

Many patients who are having trouble conceiving end up overpaying for fertility treatment, often averaging around $5,300 out of pocket. Those who undergo IVF pay substantially more – about $12,000 for each attempt. One way to avoid these exorbitant costs is to make sure to find the right match and work with a doctor who is more likely to help their patients achieve conception on the first treatment.

Dr. Annette Lee is a well-known fertility doctor in the Philadelphia area with a proven track record. A good doctor will also be able to tell patients what their chances of success are given their specific diagnosis.

Some clinics market "money-back" guarantees to attract patients, however, consumers need to be careful. Many times, only patients who are likely to conceive during their first attempt are accepted, and ultimately they end up paying more for their treatment than if they had not entered into a "shared risk" or multi-cycle package. Commonly, if the first cycle fails, patients are told the second and third cycle will be "free" however, in the fine print, they discover that "free" does not include anesthesia, fertility medications, and other costly parts of the actual IVF cycle.

Always check to see if insurance plans cover a procedure before going ahead with it. If a patient's plan doesn't cover fertility medication or IVF treatments they can ask the staff at Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists programs such as Compassionate Care Program, discounted rates for "self-pay" patients, and Dr. Lee's staff will always contact a patient's insurance company on their behalf to verify what treatments are or are not covered. Finally, Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists participates in clinical research trials, which often provide free medications partially cover the cost of treatment for qualified patients.

Dr. Annette Lee Recognized as Vitals Top Ten Doctor

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/20/2014 -- Dr. Annette Lee of Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists has been recognized as a Vitals Top Ten Doctor in the Philadelphia area.

Every year, Vitals.com collects feedback from hundreds of thousands of patients online regarding their experiences with doctors. Patients rate doctors based on doctor-patient face time, bedside manner, and follow-up, and also provide an overall rating. Vitals.com analyzes these ratings and chooses doctors for the top ten list who rank highest in their location and field of practice.

Dr. Annette Lee and Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists have been recognized among fertility doctors in Philadelphia for their personalized care and individual attention paid to each of their patients. Patients surveyed appreciated the understanding and patience Dr. Lee consistently shows during infertility treatments, an often difficult and uncertain time for many women. The practice's dedication has placed them in the top 1% of the nation's 870,000 active doctors.

Vitals Top Ten rankings are significant because if a patient takes the time to rate their doctor it means they think particularly highly of the doctor. If patients have a lackluster or run of the mill doctor experience they are less likely to take the time out of their day.

Vitals.com is out to celebrate and commend top performing doctors, which is why they gather this information each year. To go along with the recent recognition, Vitals.com will place a Vitals Top Ten Doctor icon on the Dr. Annette Lee's Vitals.com profile.

Research Supports IVF Procedures Conducted by Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/12/2014 -- A recent study confirms that pregnancy achieved via IVF has no negative long term effects on the resulting children. The study examined body mass index, development, and academic performance in young adults between ages 18 and 29 conceived through IVF and young adults from the same age group conceived without IVF and found no significant difference between the two groups. Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists offers expert IVF services at their fertility clinic in Philadelphia and can vouch for the safety and success rates of the procedure.

The study was conducted by Professor Jane Fisher and Dr. Karin Hammarberg, staff members at the Jean Hailes Research Unit at Monash University and the results were published in recently in the journal Fertility and Sterility. In one of the largest and longest term studies ever done to assess the long term outcome of babies conceived through IVF, researchers interviewed 656 mothers who used IVF and their 547 adult offspring aged between 18 and 29 years, and compared this to reports from 868 mothers and their 549 adult offspring who were conceived without IVF Specifically, the study found no evidence suggesting increased rates of ADHD in children conceived through IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies (ART). To follow up, the researchers will continue to monitor the participants of the study to seek more support of the already strong evidence in the favor of the safety of IVF.

Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists reports consistently high pregnancy rates, well above the national average with the use of IVF methods. They also provide other fertility services such as artificial insemination in the Philadelphia area clinic.

Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists Contributes to Record Number of IVF Pregnancies

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/28/2014 -- "Fox News Alert: Number of test tube babies in US hits record percentage." What's behind attention-getting headlines like these?

Year after year, more IVF procedures are done in the US and correspondingly an increasing percentage of American babies are conceived via this technique. The newest reports show over 165,000 cycles of IVF performed in 2012 resulting in the birth of 62,000 infants (1.5% of all US births). Many factors account for the increasing popularity of assisted reproductive technology:

1.Couples are waiting longer to get married and start families. The average age of first mothers is now 26, as opposed to 21 in 1970.

2.Our changing economy and societal expectations have made led to more couples electively waiting for "the right circumstances" to start a family, however the "right time" may not arrive until the female partner is under the pressure of her biological clock

3.Over 3 million IVF children have now been born and more celebrities (Brooke Shields, Celine Dion, etc.) have been forthcoming about their IVF journeys, as a result the use of these technologies has come to seem more "mainstream".

4.In those states with mandated coverage for IVF (MA, NJ, NY, MD, IL) the number of IVF cycles performed has skyrocketed, and is now 4 to 6-fold higher more commonly performed than in to states with NO mandated coverage for IVF.

5.The IVF process itself has improved over time. In 2012, the average pregnancy rate was 47% per attempt in women under age 35 (source: www.sart.org) as compared to 37% in 2000. Even compared to the very recent past, fewer medications are needed and technology improved, fewer embryos are being transferred at one time thereby reducing the multiple pregnancy rate. In 2000, 5-8% of IVF conceptions were multiple pregnancies; in 2012 the multiple rate was 1%.

How do fertility clinics in Philadelphia compare to the national trends? At Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists, the per cycle pregnancy rate now stands at 74% per attempt in women under age 35 (vs. 47% for the USA overall). Furthermore, Dr. Annette Lee and her all-female staff provide these exceptional success rates in a supportive, nurturing atmosphere where each patient is treated as an individual, not a number. Many of Dr. Lee's patients come to PRS for artificial insemination in Philadelphia specifically to avoid an impersonal, factory-like experience.

Many patients assume they cannot afford fertility care because Pennsylvania does not mandate insurance coverage for IVF. These women are pleasantly surprised to learn that they actually do have coverage for diagnostic testing and/or lesser fertility treatments and may even qualify for need-based financial assistance from pharmaceutical companies. To find out about insurance coverage and fertility options, contact Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists at info@prsfertility.com or 215-822-8400.

Chalfont, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/31/2014 -- Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists is pleased to announce pregnancy rates above the national average for the fourth year in a row. According to recent statistics, Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists excels among clinics in the rest of the nation in success rates for almost every age group. Pennsylvania Reproductive Specialists offers a wide range of fertility treatments including artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization, ovulation induction, the use of donor eggs, donor sperm and gestational surrogacy.

The numbers speak for themselves.
Many factors can contribute to infertility. Failure to ovulate can result from hormonal problems, premature menopause, or polycystic ovarian syndrome.
