We also want to express our sincere appreciation to Seminole Middle School and their principal, Kathryn Marlow for allowing us to host the event at their school year after year. Our e-sporting events for education are only made possible through a strong collaborative partnership effort," said DimensionU CEO, Steven Hoy.
The event was part of DimensionU's 2016 Coast-2-Coast Spring Tournament Season and the 1st annual school-year competition in partnership with BASCC. Forty BASCC school sites across Broward County began competing virtually in November 2015 in order to qualify for one of eight team slots available in the culminating finals event held on Saturday. The eight sites with the highest cumulative scores earned a place in the finals. Those eight school sites were: Flamingo Elementary, Hawkes Bluff Elementary, Heron Heights Elementary, Riverglades Elementary, Riverside Elementary, Sunset Lakes Elementary, Tropical Elementary, and Westchester Elementary. Each site was eligible to bring a team of 6 students accompanied by their school educator chaperones and parents.

Dr. Deborah R. Gavilan, Director of BASCC, kicked-off the day's event with opening remarks followed by Mr. Steven Hoy, CEO of DimensionU, who emceed the competition. All eight teams competed simultaneously in six preliminary rounds divided between two multiplayer game rooms. Each preliminary round alternated the teams among the game rooms and between the DimensionU TowerStorm and Meltdown games. Math curriculum was leveled based on the students' current grade and/or mathematics competency, allowing for an academic event that was open for all types of learners. The four after school teams with the highest cumulative preliminary round scores advanced to a finals round. Hawkes Bluff Elementary School took 1st place, followed by 2nd place winner, Flamingo Elementary School, 3rd place winner, Tropical Elementary School and 4th place winner, Westchester Elementary School. Students from the winning teams received medals and a school trophy. All participants also received an official 2016 Competition Season T-shirt and BASCC Tournament Participation Certificate.

"It was a pleasure to be able to initiate this mid-year, spring competition for the Broward County After School sites and to engage the students of Broward County in mathematics curriculum – especially on a Saturday! It was like a sporting event!" said DimensionU CEO, Steven Hoy. "A major contributing success factor was the tremendous support from both educators and parents. Without them, this would not be possible," added Hoy.

To close out the event, educator chaperones from each after school program also participated in their own math video gaming competition, surrounded by the support and assistance of their students. Congratulations to Mr. Jamie Anderson, Supervisor of the Flamingo Elementary After School program, who took 1st Place and earned bragging rights from this year's tournament!

DimensionU Launches Innovative New Teachers App

“Teachers by DimensionU” is the brand-new management application exclusively for educators!

Richmond, VA -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/22/2015 -- DimensionU, Inc. announced today the release of an innovative new app for educators called "Teachers by DimensionU." The application is now available for free on the web or iOS (iPhone & iPad), for any educator who uses DimensionU in the classroom. The application will also be available on Android devices soon.

With this new free app, teachers can create password-protected game rooms that specify the DimensionU game to play, the game duration, maximum game participants, as well as when the game will auto-start. Teachers can create as many game rooms as necessary for their students, all from within the app, and then keep track of which students are playing in those game rooms. Essentially, it provides teachers with more control over the student experience in the DimensionU Web and iOS games.

"We are extremely pleased with this new app for our DimensionU educators. Its development was based solely on input from teachers and we already have our plans to expand the app's capabilities, to make it even more effective for our classroom educators when they return for the 2015-16 school year," said DimensionU CEO Steven Hoy. "This app is truly unique in the game-based learning space, and is another way that DimensionU keeps innovating to improve the educator and student experience!" added Hoy.

A DimensionU educator account is required to use the application with students. The new app can be accessed by signing in at www.DimensionU.com or in the Apple App Store.
