$24,869.40 Will Enhance Safe Passage’s Health Services to Victims of Domestic Violence

Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/15/2014 -- Safe Passage received a grant in the amount of $24,869.40 from Kaiser Permanente Woodland HIlls. The grant will help continue the mission in providing services and care for women and children who've escaped an abusive home environment.

"We are so grateful to Kaiser Permanente for recognizing this need in our community, and reaching out to help domestic violence survivors after they've left the hospital," says Safe Passage CEO Trish Steele. "We will ensure the money goes to help the women and children in our care as they recover physically and emotionally while taking steps to a new life."

501(c)3 Safe Passage was established in 2000. Since then, more than 1500 women and their children have come to the organization for shelter and support. Safe Passage aims to transform women in shelters to be independent within six months. Its clients have a 95% success rate in breaking the cycle of domestic violence and creating a new life.

"We understand that good health extends beyond the doctor's office and the hospital," said Michael Carter, Executive Director of Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills. "That's why we use our Community Benefit Grants Program to support nonprofit agencies that offer direct healthcare services or address public policy aimed at improving community health."

Helping Hispanic Women Speak out Against Domestic Violence

Mi Amor Gala Launch Party, Havana White Party For Non-Profit Safe Passage

Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/14/2014 -- "Of the Latinas who experience domestic violence, about half never report the abuse to authorities." -National Latino Network

Domestic violence is a hidden horror in the Hispanic community, one that hit home early for Luisa Diaz. She was only five years old when she witnessed her grandmother's struggle to care for 15 children after escaping her grandfather's abuse. "My grandmother is my hero because she left with no education, and struggled to take care of us,"said Diaz. "If more people in the Hispanic community shared their stories, they would realize they're not alone."

Diaz, now a successful television producer and host, says her success was inspired by her grandmother's drive to survive. Now Luisa wants to help others and is taking the first step by holding a Gala to raise awareness on behalf of the charity Safe Passage.

Mi Amor Gala will host a Havana White Party and will donate a portion of the proceeds to the non-profit 501(c)3 Safe Passage. The Latin themed event will include conga drummers, singing, mojitos and hors d'oeuvres. Many celebrities will also be in attendance and available for interviews. Inspirational women who've empowered others will be honored at the event.

Adrienne Maloof of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is a friend and supporter. "Diaz is a true beauty inside and out," said Maloof. "She understands that we need to support each other and speak out until more women realize, it's not okay to suffer in silence."

"We teach women that you need to heal from the inside out," said Trish Steele, CEO of Safe Passage. "Some of the most fearful clients we have are Hispanic, so we see first hand how crucial Luisa's mission is and appreciate her efforts to help us help others."

What: Mi Amor Gala hosts a Havana White Party to include entertainment, drinks, food, a silent auction, and recognition of inspirational women who've empowered others. Portions of the proceeds will benefit the 501(c)3 Safe Passage

Safe Passage Announces Domestic Violence Advocate Tanya Young Williams as National Spokesperson

Commentator, legal analyst, and inspirational speaker to help charity break the cycle of domestic violence

Studio City, CA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 03/25/2014 -- Safe Passage, since its founding in 2000, has transformed the lives of women and their children helping them break the cycle of domestic violence. Domestic violence survivor Trish Steele founded Safe Passage 14 years ago with the belief that the power of giving, love and kindness can heal survivors.

Tanya Young Williams is a TV Personality, frequent commentator for Headline News (HLN), inspirational speaker, author and featured contributor to Huffington Post. She was also the Celebrity Spokesperson for the National Domestic Violence Hotline. Williams was thrust into the spotlight after her estranged husband, former NBA All-Star Jayson Williams, was tried for the fatal shooting of his limo driver in 2002. She quickly became a brave new voice in the efforts to stem domestic violence, when speaking out about her abusive past with the former All-Star.

Trish Steele says Tanya's courage and dedication to helping survivors makes her the perfect representative for Safe Passage. "Tanya is knowledgeable and has the passion to help us reach out to many more women in need."

On Sunday May 4th, Ms. Williams will speak for Safe Passage at the annual fundraiser "Courageous Women and Mothers Who Make a Difference." The event at the Montage in Beverly Hills will include moving testimonials by women who've transformed their lives with the help of Safe Passage, and by those being honored for their courageous works.

"I am very honored to lend my passion and voice to Safe Passage and all survivors of domestic violence they support in Los Angeles and nationally," says Williams. "Safe Passage and their programs help survivors start their lives over, which all of us need when we escape the traumas of domestic violence."

The Safe Passage program has a 95% proven track record of helping survivors of domestic violence find their way to a stable job, new residence, and a healthy family. More than 1500 women and children have some to Safe Passage for support, as their offices receive approximately 60 calls per month from survivors.

CEO Trish Steele and National Spokesperson Tanya Williams are available for interviews. If you'd like to schedule an interview, please contact Stephanie Abrams at 818-422-4123 or email info@abramsmanagement.com.
